What Taylor Swift, Britney Spears and Shania Twain concerts taught me about the music industry in 2015

By Emily Yahr | Washington Post | December 31, 2015

taylorshaniabritney.jpg&w=742
Britney Spears (Denise Truscello/AP), Shania Twain ((Kyle Gustafson/For The Washington Post) and Taylor Swift (Evan Agostini/Invision/AP).

Through a twist of fate this summer, I saw Taylor Swift, Britney Spears and Shania Twain in concert, all within the span of a month. Three extremely powerful women and music icons, all at very significant points in their careers.

Swift, 26, is in the beginning of her mega-star era, as the former country singer is now one of the biggest pop stars on the planet. Spears, 34, was hugely famous during her peak in the late-’90s and is now comfortably ensconced in a multi-year Las Vegas residency. Twain, 50, just took a victory lap with her final concert tour, celebrating her reign as the top-selling female country act in history.

Seeing all three shows so close together was a surprisingly educational experience. Really! During the three concerts, each singer was a distinct symbol of what it takes to be a sustainable pop star in the 2015 music climate – no matter what phase of musical stardom.

As the Swift concert emphasized, to gain a rabid fanbase as a millennial celebrity, you have to be relatable and share many details about your life. No one is savvier than Swift at crafting a perfectly universal (yet ultimately unattainable) image, as Swift regularly posts pictures of her cats sprinkled between shots from award shows and expensive vacations. She walks a similar line in concerts: She talks like she’s your best friend, yet she’s the one center stage in front of a sold-out stadium.

[Taylor Swift’s tour guests by the numbers: How many singers? Models? Athletes?]

“When people were saying things about me that weren’t true, you guys were the ones who were on my side, and I’ll never, ever forget that,” Swift told the crowd at Nationals Park in July, ticking off all the typical ways she tried to shake off a rough year plagued by rumors about her personal life: She moved to New York, got a haircut, surrounded herself with friends. Just like an everyday 20-something, right? Then she continued: “So I went to London and met up with a girl named Imogen Heap, and we wrote this song about what I’ve been through – and we called it ‘Clean.’”

So while none of her fans can actually relate to turning their pain into a co-write with a Grammy-winning British singer, it didn’t matter — because in that moment, they felt like they could. The crowd erupted for the opening notes of “Clean,” which was an elaborate, sparkly, backup dancer-filled production. The rest of the concert continued to prove why Swift has an unusually loyal fanbase: In between inescapable pop songs (from “Shake It Off” to throwback “You Belong With Me”), she took a large amount of time to bond with the audience, whether chatting about the ominous weather to a long, inspirational speech about how unhealthy it is to compare your life to others.

On the opposite side of the banter spectrum sits Spears, who just extended her “Piece of Me” Vegas residency for two more years. Her spectacle of a show at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino one Saturday night in August went off without a hitch, largely because that was its primary intended purpose. The whole show is scripted to the second, which is entirely the point: For an artist like Spears, none of the mostly adult fans in the crowd cared about bonding. They just wanted to dance to middle school throwback songs.

[Britney Spears strikes back at Iggy Azalea’s assertion that ‘Pretty Girls’ flopped due to poor promotion]

Oh, Spears delivered. The set constructions were wild: At one point, Spears dressed like an angel and descended from the ceiling. For songs from her “Circus” album, there was a full circus extravaganza, complete with rings of fire. There was no time to focus on an emotional experience or, frankly, whether Spears was even singing live during her impressive choreography. Instead, it was a dizzying hour of hits of all eras, from “(You Drive Me) Crazy” to “Womanizer.” Her earliest smashes “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops!…I Did It Again” had to squeeze together into a medley.

It’s not like the crowd wouldn’t have been interested in Spears’s personal life. Besides the years when she was a pop sensation when she was a teenager, Spears garnered the most public attention for her breakdown around 2008. She’s since recovered, and apparently learned that the way to stay relevant is to tap into what people loved so much: The bubblegum pop of her past. Between performances, video screens showed off the best of her old music videos. Her audience interaction was minimal (quips like “Oh my GOD, everyone’s so HOT and SEXY tonight!” and “Ready for one more, Vegas?!”) and nobody seemed to mind.

Twain is a different type of nostalgia act. She’s already been the country/pop star at the top of the world, thanks to “Come On Over” in 1997, one of the top-selling albums ever. She’s done her Vegas residency. Basically, she’s set for life. So now, Twain stands out because she doesn’t have to put in an elaborate amount of effort for her farewell tour — but she does just that. Fans would be happy just to belt out hits like “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” and “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” without actual fireworks in the background, yet Twain pulled out all the stops at the Verizon Center in July.

[Shania Twain goes big and bigger at the Verizon Center]

She flew across the arena on a mechanical bull; someone pushed her around in a cart so she could take selfies with fans; there were sparklers going off on stage. The sets were out of control. Twain pulled an adorable child on stage to sing “Honey I’m Home.” She talked a lot with the audience and even got vaguely personal with an acoustic version of “Today Is Your Day,” a recent song she said she wrote as a positivity mantra during a “particularly crappy time in my life,” which one may assume was when her ex-husband very publicly left her for her best friend. Either way, the wildly enthusiastic crowd appreciated a longtime artist going above and beyond.

Seeing these three influential stars in quick succession was a reminder of the type of artists (no matter what level they are on) who actually cut through the noise of these debates today: The ones who make a real connection to an audience, in a way that’s specific to their true personalities and where they are in life. And the musical landscape continues to splinter in many directions, that’s truly the way to make an impact.

Derek Holland channels inner Shania Twain, Dallas Stars sing "Let It Go" and more in Seacrest Studios challenge

By SportsDayDFW.com | January 7, 2016

Wait, the holiday season is over?

Darn. Well, until 2016's end-of-year festivities come around, here's a video of Cowboys, Rangers and Stars players -- among other guests -- singing "Let It Go" (from the Disney movie "Frozen"), Shania Twain's "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" and other tunes.

Rangers pitcher Derek Holland -- you guessed it -- steals the show.

From the Ryan Seacrest Foundation's website:

We love when celebrities come to Seacrest Studios to meet some cool kids and we thought we would add in some extra fun...with the Celebrity Challenge! The idea - a celebrity visitor poses a challenge to the next celebrity who comes to Seacrest Studios.

The video above was Volume 3 of the series.

Shania Twain: The greatest country singer of a generation

By Laura | Opinion - Celebmix | January 19, 2016

Canadian born singer Shania Twain is without doubt the most successful female country artist of all time and the darling of country music.

Despite only releasing four studio albums, the ‘Man I Feel Like A Woman’ hitmaker has sold over 85 million records worldwide, making her one of the most successful artists of all time and the biggest selling female country singer ever.

The singer has also won hundreds of awards for her music, including five Grammy awards.

Despite her humble beginnings, Shania Twain  has gone on to achieve stratospheric success and her third album ‘Come On Over’ sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, making it the most successful LP of all time in any genre and the biggest selling country album ever.

She is also the only female artist in history to have three consecutive albums be certified diamond.

Unfortunately in 2004, Shania was forced to take a break from music because of the medical condition Dysphonia, which effects both the speaking and singing ability, luckily the condition is treatable with careful rehabilitation and in 2012 she returned to the stage with her critically acclaimed concert show ‘Still The One’ which she performed exclusively at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas.

And in June 2015 she kicked off what she called her farewell tour ‘Rock This Country, the tour ran for four months and ended in October 2015.

Twain’s last studio album was ‘Up’ which was released in 2004, and despite fans of the country star desperately wanting new music from the ‘You’re Still The One’ singer, it looks like the hitmaker has decided to retire from music. (***Retire from touring, not music.)

You can enjoy this live performance of ‘Man I Feel Like A Woman’ from Shania Twain’s Vegas show.

Julianne Hough professes love for Shania Twain's hit 'Man I Feel Like a Woman'

HELLO! Canada | January 26, 2016

Julianne Hough admits that growing up she couldn’t get enough of Shania Twain’s hit song “Man I Feel Like a Woman.” “I was obsessed with it!” revealed the 27-year-old dancer during a recent interview with actresses Vanessa Hudgens and Keke Palmer. The trio star in the upcoming live adaptation of the hit musical Grease and took some time out of their busy promotional tour to quiz each other on their favourite things. “I love country music. Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Shania Twain – all those girls,” revealed the multi-talented star.

Shania shared her appreciation for the compliment by re-tweeting the video, first posted on the Grease Live Twitter account. Julianne isn’t the only fan of the Canadian star’s 1999 female empowerment anthem. The catchy single sold more than a million copies worldwide and had women yearning to add some tuxedo-inspired pieces to their wardrobe.

One person who makes Julianne feel like a much-loved woman is her Canadian fiancé, Brooks Laich. “I always had good family and good friends and got happiness there, from being among good people,” the NHL star told the Washington Post. “But as far as the personal relationship, I had never found happiness until the day I met Julianne. And the day I met her was the day, I knew.”

While Julianne has admitted that within the Morman culture, “three months is a long time to be engaged,” the Footloose star acknowledges that finding time to plan a wedding is a challenge. While her beau is hoping to capture the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals, the Dirty Grandpa star is focusing on her acting career and the next season of Dancing With the Stars.

Excerpt from a Nick Jonas interview with Australia's Complex magazine...

Cover Story - Nick Jonas: High Impact

With a breakthrough sophomore album, Jay Z on speed dial, and A-list women knocking down his door, Nick Jonas seems to be on the verge of superstardom. AGAIN.

By Kerensa Cadenas | Complex | February 1, 2016

By now, I’ve begun to get a feel for Nick Jonas. (But it could just be all the Pacificos.) We’ve been together for a couple hours, talking closely, our beer bottles touching. We’re chatting about music and some of our favorite songs—he promises to send me the playlist from the shoot. I ask him about influences no one would expect, and his answer is a complete surprise.

“Shania Twain is one of my biggest influences,” he says. “I love her. Her ex-husband [Robert “Mutt” Lange] is one of the greatest record producers of all time, specifically with that crossover pop music thing. Melodically, vocal arrangements, the songs—I think it’s all brilliant.” Twain was one of Jonas’ formative crushes, and when she followed him back on Twitter he felt like he’d really made it. He even remembers the yellow scuba outfit she wore during a CBS special he saw when he was 10. We decide to switch locations. I jokingly suggest that we find Shania Twain karaoke.

Flashback: See Carrie Underwood Sing Shania Twain's 'Man!'

Twain's exclamation-heavy smash "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" propelled Underwood to the 'American Idol' finale

By Stephen L. Betts | Rolling Stone | February 3, 2016

Carrie Underwood performed Shania Twain's smash "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" before she made it to the 'American Idol' finale.

No amount of exclamation points can quite capture just how BIG! Shania Twain's Come on Over LP was around the globe at the dawn of a new millennium. Initially released in the U.S. on November 4th, 1997, and subsequently throughout the world in a revised "International" pop version to appeal to Twain's widening fanbase, Come on Over soon became the best-selling country album of all time, the best-selling LP by a female artist in any genre and one of the 10 best-selling albums in history, with sales of more than 20 million in the U.S. and 40 million worldwide. So, is it any wonder that there are no less than six exclamation points attached to four of the 16 tracks on the LP? Two of them are even used in the title of "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" which was released as the seventh country single from Come on Over.

At 18, Twain was sharing a one-bedroom apartment in Toronto with a pair of college co-eds. While her roommates attended classes, she studied music at home. On the weekends, the aspiring singer and her pals would go dancing at a local gay bar, where she was introduced to men who were much more adept at applying makeup than she was at the time. She noted in her 2011 autobiography From This Moment On that the experience would inspire the writing of "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" (penned with then-husband and producer "Mutt" Lange) and would especially influence the gender-bending music video, itself a cheeky take-off on Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" clip. At the 2000 Grammy Awards, "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" earned Twain a Grammy and "You're Still the One" (also from Come on Over) won for Best Country Song that year.

Six years after Twain's Grammy success, her single was certified gold with 500,000 copies sold — an event which took place ten years ago today, on February 3, 2006. That milestone may have had some assistance from future country superstar Carrie Underwood, who performed the song on May 17th, 2005 when American Idol judge Randy Jackson chose it for the Top Three finalist as part of the season's last episode before the finale. Ahead of her rendition, a taped piece showed Underwood at a homecoming event in Checotah, Oklahoma, being given the news by flustered Checotah Mayor Jay Hayes, who was visibly embarrassed at having to utter the song's title.

With the head of her future record label, RCA Music Group chief Clive Davis, seated at the judge's table with Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell (who, in typical fashion, groused that the first part of the song didn't sound anything like her but admitted the second half was enough to get her into the final). One week later, of course, after 37 million votes were cast, Underwood became the show's fourth-season winner over Bo Bice. Underwood is currently on the road with her Storyteller Tour.

In March 2015, "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" was included on the CD and DVD of Shania's Still the One: Live from Vegas, a chronicle of the superstar entertainer's hugely successful Sin City residency. And for those keeping score, the song titles on Twain's Up! — the follow-up to Come on Over — included 10 exclamation points.

How 11 Celebs Got Their Stage Names

By Evann Gastaldo | Newser | February 13, 2016 1:05 PM CST

(Newser) – Ever wondered how stars come up with their stage names? The Chive rounds up the stories behind the names 22 celebs go by:

  1. Iggy Azalea: Amethyst Amelia Kelly, as she was born, is not a fan of her real name. "Iggy" was the name of a dog she had as a kid, and "Azalea" was the street she lived on while she was growing up.
  2. Tiger Woods: Eldrick Tont Woods' dad nicknamed him "Tiger" after his friend, who had the same nickname while serving in the military.
  3. Lana Del Rey: Elizabeth Woolridge Grant wanted a more old-fashioned persona, and "Lana Del Rey" sounded glamorous to her.
  4. Bruno Mars: Peter Gene Hernandez was nicknamed Bruno by his dad because he looked a lot like the professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino.
  5. Lorde: Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor was very interested in royalty and the aristocracy, and liked the name "Lord"—but added the "e" to make it a little more feminine.
  6. Louis CK: His birth last name, Szekely, is pronounced "see-kay."
  7. Shania Twain: Eilleen Regina Edwards ultimately decided to take the last name of the man her mom married after divorcing her dad, Jerry Twain. She chose "Shania" as her first name because it means "on my way" in Ojibwa.
  8. Miley Cyrus: Destiny Hope Cyrus was nicknamed "Smiley" when she was young, and shortened it to "Miley."
  9. Michael Keaton: He was born Michael Douglas, but didn't want to be confused with the other Michael Douglas, so he chose a new last name after reading an article about Diane Keaton.
  10. Olivia Wilde: Olivia Jane ****burn chose her new last name as a tribute to Oscar Wilde after she performed in The Importance of Being Earnest as a high schooler.
  11. Whoopi Goldberg: Caryn Elaine Johnson reportedly chose her new first name after the classic whoopee cushion, and her new last name because it sounded respectable.

Click for the complete list, including one person who was embarrassed that his original name had a cuss word in it.

Why Shania Twain and Selena Gomez would be the perfect X Factor judges 1

Why Shania Twain and Selena Gomez would be the perfect X Factor judges

By Laura | CelebMix | February 19, 2016

With the news breaking this morning that Nick Grimshaw has quit as a judge on the UK version of the X Factor, its got us thinking who the new panel will be when the next series of the talent show kicks off later this year.

Now Nick has left and with constant rumours that Rita Ora will be leaving the panel, there seems to be two open seats on the judging table.

Both Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini are expected back and there is at least one judging spot open, so who will Simon hire to sit alongside him and Cheryl?.

Wouldn’t it be great if the show shook things up by adding both younger and older talent from across the pond?.

It would be wonderful if the X Factor brought in Canadian superstar Shania Twain and American star Selena Gomez.

Both women offer something different and would add a great dynamic to the show.

Shania has a hugely successful career spanning over twenty years, with multiple Grammy awards under her belt and the title of the most successful female country singer of all time. The 50-year-old would also bring some much needed experience to the table.

Twain was also a guest judge on the 2010 series of American Idol so has judging experience and a history with Simon Cowell.

While Selena Gomez is young, talented and knows exactly what it takes to become a worldwide success in today’s world.

Gomez would be able to offer much need guidance to the contestants about how to cope with being a young person living your life in the spotlight.

So add, Shania Twain and Selena Gomez along with the record industry expertise of Simon Cowell and the guidance and experience of Cheryl, X Factor would have an unbeatable panel of formidable judges.

All the judges would bring in different viewers and allow for a greater pool of talent to audition.

And all four judges would have great chemistry, as Simon got on well with Shania while on American Idol, Simon is best friends with Cheryl, Selena loves Cheryl, Cheryl is a fan of Selena, and Shania loves all different types of music and is a strong woman who shares the same down to earth personality and beliefs with both, Cheryl and Selena.

If their schedules allowed, would you like to see Shania Twain and Selena Gomez join Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell on the UK X Factor panel? Let us know over on Twitter @CelebMix or leave a comment below.

I saw that as well! Stupid slide show format though....lucky Shania's "then and now" pic was the second or third one in the rotation....I thought they should have used her 1989 photo shoot spread vs the 1995 pic for the "then" portion.

15 Iconic Pop Songs Originally Written For Different Singers

By Perrie Samotin | StyleCaster | April 3, 2016

Song: "Irreplaceable" by Beyoncé
Originally written for: Shania Twain or Faith Hill

Beyonce's "to the left" R&B hit was written by Ne-Yo and Norwegian producing duo Stargate, but it wasn't written with Beyoncé in mind. According to MTV News, Ne-Yo revealed in interviews that he had Faith Hill and Shania Twain in mind when he wrote "Irreplaceable" as a country song, and Hermansen still thinks the tune could easily have been a country radio hit. Once Bey heard it, however, she loved it and said she thought she could put her own spin on it.

Stop What You're Doing and Watch Todd Chrisley Perform 'Man, I Feel Like a Woman' While Wearing Nipple Tassels

By Aurelie Corinthios | PEOPLE | April 15, 2016 at 02:50 PM EDT

If you thought Todd Chrisley performing "Blurred Lines" was the best he could do on Lip Sync Battle, you were wrong. Very, very, very wrong.

On Thursday's episode of the show, the Chrisley Knows Best star, 47, decided he was truly going to give it his all while competing against Real Housewives of Atlanta's NeNe Leakes – so naturally, he channeled his inner Shania Twain and rocked out to her hit "Man, I Feel Like a Woman" while wearing shorts shorts, a top hat with a birdcage veil and nipple tassels. We repeat: nipple tassels.

He started off modest, covering up with a floor-length black satin trench coat (he skipped out on Twain's iconic thigh-high black boots from the music video, opting for loafers instead, but hey, the nipple gear was brave enough as it is).

The big reveal came at the end his performance when he danced over to Leakes, ripped open his white button-down shirt and shook his tassel-clad nipples at her while Leakes (and the crowd!) roared with laughter.

Man, I feel like a winner: Stars follow Shania Twain's advice for huge Game 4 victory

By Mike Heika | Dallas News | May 6, 2016

The quest for knowledge has driven man since the beginning of time. Whether it was Marco Polo venturing off to discover the world, the many searches for the Ark of the Covenant, or Buddha seeking inner peace, there has always been a hunger to understand the intricacies of life.

The Stars' trek toward clarity has landed them in Timmins, Ontario. There, they have found the true source of wisdom and goodness ... Shania Twain.

The sultry songstress with the lilting voice has quite a way with the English language, and so the Stars often look to her for guidance. Jason Spezza stopped the media in its tracks Thursday morning when they went on a truth-seeking mission in the visitors' locker room at Scottrade Center. With demanding queries locked into their crossbows, the children of Edwin R. Murrow wanted to toss around phrases like "questioned manhood," "intellectual mettle" and "low testosterone."

So imagine their surprise when Spezza said they had to wait until the Shania Twain song was over. Captain Jamie Benn, reading the vibe from his teammate, walked over to the modern-day "boombox" and turned the volume up to 11.

The stench of the locker room was washed away temporarily by the wafting grace of Twain's heartfelt lyrics from the song "You're Still The One."

"They said, 'I bet, they'll never make it,' But just look at us holding on. Still together, still going strong."

How did we not see it then? How could we have been so deaf to the obvious? Who cares about Ryan Reaves and his manufactured machismo? Why worry about the boys in Vegas already installing the Blues as the favorites to win the Stanley Cup after a 6-1 win in Game 2? Why panic when there is so much hockey to be played?

The Stars on Thursday answered the bell, so to speak. But instead of coming out with gloves on, swinging haymakers, they listened to Shania. She has a point. If you've been around this team for any amount of time, they have already faced 1,000 challenges. Whether it's Brett Ritchie or Valeri Nichushkin just getting into the lineup, Patrick Sharp and Spezza carving out a new home in a distant land, or Benn learning to live in the high-pressure world of the NHL superstar, there has been plenty of surviving done already.

So when they were crushed on Tuesday, it wasn't that big of a deal. Heck, they gave up six or more nine times this season. It's what they do. When Reaves blew a kiss at them after a fight, it was just so much posturing. They skate away from guys like that with their speed and guile. And when the fans and oddsmakers were in full panic mode, the players chuckled and looked inside.

They knew they could do better. They'd done better before.

But don't think they weren't realistic. Lindy Ruff said his team's manhood was challenged. Jason Spezza said the team was angry about all of the shenanigans on Tuesday. Jamie Benn bit his lip 100 times on Wednesday and Thursday when he wanted to say more than he did.

I sort of made a big deal about the team playing poorly in the preseason and was told at the time not to worry, because the games didn't matter. Then when they went 9-2-0 in October, I admitted they were right to question my questioning, and they responded with their own chuckle and said words to the effect, "Actually, we were scared to death after that preseason."

They were scared to death before Game 4, too. It's natural. You'd be concerned if they weren't. But instead of beating their chests, they looked for inner peace. Instead of chirping Ryan Reaves, they listened to Shania.

It's who they are.

Thursday's game could have so easily gone the other way. The Stars were chasing, and they needed Kari Lehtonen to come up big. He did. Then, out of nowhere, the Blues gift-wrapped a goal to Radek Faksa, and the game changed. There are no perfect answers in this world, there is only life. You have to make your choices every day on how you want to live it.

And if your muse is shouting, "Don't be stupid" or "That don't impress me much," you listen. And if she's saying, "Man, I feel like a woman," you sing along." You're confident enough in your manhood, right?

When Tom Gaglardi took over the Stars in 2011, the team was a financial mess. He hired Jim Lites and the two have done an impressive job of building a new foundation. They know about battling adversity and staying patient. When Jim Nill came on board in 2013, he brought in Lindy Ruff, and the two have done an impressive job of making over the identity of the Stars. They know what their strengths are and how they can use those strengths.

Bottom line, they have changed more than just the jersey color. This ain't your father's hockey team, and it doesn't need to break anyone's jaw to prove it's tough.

When Cody Eakin skated down the left wing and found the tiniest crack in the armor of the St. Louis Blues Thursday for the overtime game-winner, it seemed fitting that Reaves had 4:32 of ice time in the game.

Now, the series is tied, the Stars have home ice advantage, and the Blues have to find their own motivation.

Just so they know, the Canadian chanteuse with the Ojibwa name is already taken.

"Ain't nothing better. We beat the odds together. I'm glad we didn't listen, look at what we would be missin."

She does have a way with words.

19 Years Ago Shania Twain Showed The World Why Being A Women Is So Awesome

By Mariah Hanlin | Whiskey Riff | May 7, 2016

“Men’s shirts, short skirts.”

“Man! I Feel Like A Women!” was and still is one of my favorite songs to this day. The fun spunk behind the song Shania performs always gives me all the feels. When I was 4, I used to line up all my animals and pretend I was Shania Twain putting on the show. I guess I have her to thank for some of my woman sass then right?

This is truly a girl’s night out and empowering song.

Here are some girl power lines from “Man! I feel Like A Women!”…

  • “I’m going out tonight, I’m feelin’ alright
Gonna let it all hang out.”

Shania tells shows up that there’s always a time to go out, and don’t even worry about trying to dress like a lady.

  • “I ain’t gonna act politically correct
I only want to have a good time.”

Well don’t mind if I do Shania.

  • “I want to be free yeah, to feel the way I feel
Man! I feel like a woman!”

You are free to feel the way you want because man, you are a woman.

Check out the throwback video below to see how Shania ****ian showed what “proud of being a woman” really is…

NHL Playoffs: Country queen Shania Twain inspires Dallas Stars to victory

By Motez Bishara | CNN | May 10, 2016

(CNN) "They said, 'I bet they'll never make it,' but just look at us holding on.

"We're still together, still going strong."

Sappy words from a country love song never sounded so inspirational to a bunch of tough guys on skates.

Yet the Dallas Stars have adopted country music singer Shania Twain as an unlikely source of strength during their NHL playoffs push.

In the morning skate before Monday's pivotal game 6 face-off with the St. Louis Blues, the PA system belted out the 50-year-old Canadian's "From This Moment On."

And scripted just like a classic country ballad, the Stars came through with their backs against the wall. Facing elimination, Jason Spezza knocked in the power-play winner in the first period while goalie Kari Lehtonen made some key saves to preserve the lead.

It's a trend that's gained momentum all series, and, as any athlete knows, it's best not to mess with tradition.

In the visitors' locker room before the Stars' overtime game 4 win last week, Spezza, the team's 6-foot 3-inch, 220-pound center, treated the assembled media to a karaoke-like singalong of Twain's "You're Still The One" before fielding questions, according to NHL.com.

Though "the Queen of Country Pop" has yet to appear at a Stars game, she's clearly thrilled with her role in their success, tweeting: "Heard @dallasstars have amazing taste in pregame music. Must have helped them to the win?! Incredible game guys!"

"We only listen to the best!" Stars captain Jamie Benn replied, with teammate Jason Demers adding "OMG shania knows who we are!!! thanks for the love."

Not to be outdone, the Blues have also claimed the singer as their own, tweeting "It's not too late @ShaniaTwain -- come on over!" after Saturday's game 5 win.

Twain, it appears, is in hot demand, and the Stars would be wise to fly her over to Dallas for Wednesday's series-deciding game 7.

With team bruisers happily singing along to "Man, I Feel Like a Woman" before game 6, there is apparently no song on her repertoire that's off-limits.

But if Dallas pulls off a win in game 7 to skate into the conference finals, Twain may just have to reconsider her most famous lyric: "That don't impress me much."

The victor will next take on either Nashville Predators or San Jose Sharks, who are also tied 3-3 ahead of Thursday's decider.

Last year's Stanley Cup losing finalist Tampa Bay Lightning beat New York Islanders 4-1 to set up a clash with Pittsburgh Penguins or Washington Capitals, who need to win Tuesday's home game 6 at Consol Energy Center to take the series to a decider.

It looks like Shania's lucky songs ran out for the Dallas Stars. The St. Louis Blues beat the Dallas Stars 6-1 last night in Game 7 and won the series 4-3. Dallas is out of the playoffs.

15 Reasons Shania Twain is the Most Bad@ss Woman Ever

By Country Habit | April 27, 2015

With over 75 million records sold worldwide, and one record-breaking triumph after the other, Shania Twain is a bonafide superstar with the platinum plaques and adoring fans to prove it. Translation: she’s kind of a big deal. Not only is she a brilliant singer/songwriter, she is an incredible humanitarian, and proof positive that women do indeed rule the world (if you had any doubt.) All hail the Queen of Crossover Country with 15 reasons why Shania Twain is the most bad@ss woman in the history of ever.

1. She brings f*cking horses on stage!

2. She helped change the look of modern country music. Um, hello midriff.

3. She ain’t afraid to have a good time!

4. She’s one of the most underrated feminist icons in music history.

5. When she found out her ex-hubby was cheating with her bestie, she kicked him to the curb, She later married her former bestie’s hubby. Boss.

6. Four words: You’re. Still. The. One.

7. Shania sang alongside Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, and Carole King in the first edition of VH1’s iconic Divas Live series.

8. She’s one of the best-selling country music artists of all time, male or female. She is also the only female artist in history to have three albums certified diamond—that’s 10 million freakin’ records sold!

9. She’s written and produced some of her biggest hits, including: “Up!” “Any Man of Mine,” and “I’m Gonna Getcha Good!”

10. Shania is intergalactic! No, seriously. Two of Shania’s songs, “Up” and “Honey, I’m Home,” were used to wake up astronauts in outer space in 2007 and 2001, respectively.

11. After being diagnosed with dysphonia, a condition in which the vocal chords weaken, she returned to concert stages in 2012 headlining a critically-acclaimed show in Las Vegas.

12. This year she’ll kick off her last major tour at the age of 49.

13. She loves sharing the spotlight, even with her rumored rival and fellow country diva Faith Hill.

14. She’s passing the torch to country’s next generation of empowered women.

15. She’s all about female empowerment, and we love her for it!
