OFFSTAGE: Kelly Clarkson Covers Shania Twain

Kelly Clarkson
(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I hate admitting this out loud, but as much as I love Shania Twain's music, I was never a big fan of "You're Still the One." But now, after watching a video of Kelly Clarkson belting out the sultry ballad at an Ontario tour stop, I'm amazed. It's as if there is no country hit Clarkson cannot nail. The former American Idol winner also told the crowd that Shania Twain's 1995 album, The Woman in Me, was the first Twain record she ever bought. So not only did that little admission come out, but then Clarkson tweeted yesterday (March 21) that she's going to release a country take on her own pop hit, "Mr. Know It All," in a couple of weeks. She reworked the song with the help of Nashville session musician and producer Dann Huff, who has worked with Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill, Martina McBride -- and Twain. "Hey everybody, I got to work with Dann Huff and recut 'Mr. Know It All' for country radio!" she wrote. "I hope y'all like it!! I had a lot of fun recutting the song and getting the opportunity to work with Dann! It will be available on iTunes April 3." Think there will be fiddle? And steel? And banjo? Let's hope all of the above. And while we're at it, let's hope Clarkson stops kidding herself and just makes a country album already.
