Nah, this time her silence is pure and simple guilt. Period.

There are NO excuses for not having a single out by now, especially if she has been recording since February. She's simply dragging her feet and I don't know why.

I wonder if there's a clause in her record contract that says she HAS TO release something within a certain period of time. I know some artists have it (i.e. 5 albums in 5 years or something like that)

She probably had a contract to release a total of 5 albums which she released on Mercury, so her contact with them was done (Shania Twain, TWIM, COO, Up! and Greatest Hits). There was information that she had changed her label and I don't believe she would sign anything demanding strict deadlines.

Well, Lady Gaga just announced her new album will be released October 21. The lead single, "Perfect Illusion", was released last week (6 weeks ahead of the album).

Considering it doesn't look like Shania is ready to release a single anytime soon, we'll be lucky if the album is out by the end of the year.

Starting to think no new album or single this year. Oh well I guess. Hopefully I am wrong.

Yeah, unfortunately I'm starting to think that there might not be an album this year. If she wants to do a 4th quarter release, she needs to release the album in November, otherwise it will have to be a 1st quarter release in February (like The Woman In Me was). It's September now and if we don't hear anything about a new single in the next few weeks, I don't think its going to happen :( Unless she doesn't release a song to radio for some reason? I notice that some artists are doing a straight up album release and don't bother with radio anymore. I guess it depends on the type of music it is that she is releasing. If its not "mainstream" country or pop, then she might just release the album and release the single online or something. Who knows, just a theory! I'm trying to cling onto all hope that it will come out this year!

It's been 14 years since her last true album. Aside from Shania fans, most people have forgotten about her. Heck, I bet most teenagers have never heard her music. If Shania wants any chance of this album to do well she HAS TO release a lead single first and give it some promotion. She has to!

My opinion: no new album in 2016.

Maybe new single in November 2016, new album in the first months of 2017.

I totally agree.  My younger grandkids don't know who she is. I watched the tribute to Glenn Campbell the other night by Country's new edition. First of all, for me, the music just isn't like it was during Glenn's era. Most of today's country music is pop-wannabe. One of my favorite songs is Witchita Lineman. I grew up in the 50s-60s. I grew up in the old and only true rock and roll era. I was and still am a true Elvis fan. That said, I also have many other artists I've enjoy from then til now. One of them was Linda Rondstadt. She has been such a talented lady with a voice to die for. She disappeared and I didn't hear much about her until it was revealed she has Parkinson’s Disease. During that time I was trying to fill in the gap for a female singer. I listened to Juice Newton, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Sheryl Crow, to name a few. I like Sheryl a lot. But, that wasn't exactly what I was looking for. Then one day early in 1998, I heard a song on the radio on my desk at work that caught my ear. As usual they didn't tell who it was. I heard it again twice more that week, and still no saying who sang the song. By this time I remembered the opening verse: "From this moment, life has begun, From this moment you are the one". Then the DJ finally said her name Shania Twain. Wow, I thought there it is! Just one problem. Who in heck is Shania Twain? I had not been following Country music for a while. My mother caught me up to speed. This is how smart I was. I went out and bought "The Woman In Me" CD to hear FTMO. disbelief Well, wouldn't you know I finally got it all straight and found my replacement female singer some 18 years ago now. I've seen her live 3 times in Ottawa and Montreal. I have loved her music all this time. She has a special talent in writing and singing her music. However, I do agree it may prove difficult for her to be able to make a strong comeback due to being away for so long. Although it is depressing to see for example Beyonce out there shaking it up all the time, unfortunately that is how you keep yourself "remembered'. Problem is Shania is not the type that likes to do that. So, in the end, as far as I'm concerned, I will continue to wait. I will buy her album whenever it happens, but realistically, sales may amount only to us dedicated fans for the most part. You never know though. The music business is a funny thing. Her album might also be strong, but I am cautiously optimistic on that point. We'll just have to wait and see where everything shakes out.

Steve

She said a few months ago she was making amazing progress on the new album? I am confused as to why not a single or album announcement? It would be so strange for her not to release a single before 2017 however it seems like a good possibility. Either a early October single release or nothing this year. Also I am wondering if this album will even climb the charts. I mean it has been over a decade.

I'm sure the album will debut on the charts in the Top 5, maybe Top 3, just because of Shania's comeback and peoples' pure curiosity to hear what the album sounds like. Let's just hope it has "staying power" and doesn't start steadily falling in the weeks that follow. Which I'm afraid might happen.

I think we have only 2 weeks left to hope in a 2016 release.

I think its great that Shania posts little pictures on Twitter/Instagram/Facebook about what she's up to. Like this week, for example, she posted a pic of her washing her windows. That is all great, but she knows that we are all wondering about the new music. I know she has posted pictures of her in the studio in the past, showing us that she is "hard at work" on the new album. So, while its great that she can communicate with us via pictures and little messages about what she is doing in her every day life, she can definitely be communicating with us about the new music as well! I ask myself, why is she not posting little clips of the new music from the studio, or talking about the new music at all or mentioning a lead single or even a possible track list of the album, considering that a lot of fans thought it would be out before she turned 51! Each week comes and goes, and there is no word on the release. I guess all I can say, is that tomorrow is Monday and maybe there will be an announcement this coming week! But I tend to be saying that every week at this point. Like Matteotempo said and Robby, there is only a few weeks left to hope for a new release this year and I'm starting to lose hope that the new record will be out in 2016. I have never seen one project delayed for so long.

I guess we can easily say even this year no new album.

Shania Twain Charms at CMT's 'Artists of the Year,' Promises New Music

With unguarded enthusiasm, crossover superstar sets the tone at CMT's freewheeling party

By Joseph Hudak | Rolling Stone | October 20, 2016

With its freewheeling, Golden Globes-like vibe, CMT's Artists of the Year special is establishing itself as the most entertaining of country music's myriad self-congratulatory shows, rivaling even the network's flagship CMT Music Awards. Last night's seventh annual event – taped to air tonight – singled out Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett and Chris Stapleton, along with special awards for Shania Twain and Kelsea Ballerini, and succeeded in delivering something as rare as hen's teeth in image-conscious Nashville: unguarded spontaneity.

Twain, the recipient of the Artist of a Lifetime award, deserves the bulk of that credit. The crossover superstar accepted her trophy with unabashed exuberance.

"I don't want to get off the stage right now because I'm loving this moment," she said. "I love music, and I hope that it carries on for many more years in my life."

That seems likely, considering the Canadian singer confirmed a new album is on the way on the red carpet.

"I have new music coming out really soon, and I'm very excited about it. There will be a new musical chapter," Twain tells Rolling Stone Country, eager to continue a career highlighted by five Grammy wins, more than 20 million sales of a single album (1995's The Woman in Me) and sold-out tours – including last year's possibly misnamed "farewell" tour.

"I'm a songwriter, a performer, an entertainer, a singer, and I guess collectively a huge pile of hard work has gone into it all over so many years," she says, reflecting on her Artist of a Lifetime honor. "I started professionally 44 years ago. Almost my entire life has been as a professional artist in one capacity or the other. I feel like I've lived three lifetimes."

Underwood presented the trophy to Twain, with Ballerini, R&B singer Jill Scott and Meghan Trainor saluting the singer with a medley of her hits, including her signature "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" (watch a clip below). But the appreciation for Twain extended far off the stage, with artists as disparate as Scott and Florida Georgia Line reflecting on her influence.

"She pushed the boundaries, created her own lane and opened up a lot of doors for up-and-comers and different artists. She's definitely inspired us," says FGL's Tyler Hubbard.

"It's been cool to watch her go through her phases of her career, and her artistry," adds Brian Kelley. "That's real life, and that's country music."

Scott says Twain turned country music on its head with her rock-based production and unapologetically sexy image. "I love the sound of an acoustic guitar, the sound of a rock guitar. She mixed it all together, standing there foxy as hell," says Scott, "and telling country stories in this powerful form."

"I think more than anything she was so fearlessly herself and did it through fashion, through her heart and through her music," says Ballerini. "Every girl wants to be Shania Twain."

CMT's Artists of the Year also features performances by Underwood, Bryan with Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild, and Stapleton, who delivered a stunning solo take on his song "Whiskey and You."

CMT Artists of the Year airs Thursday night, October 20th, at 9:00 p.m./ET.

From the CMT Artists of the Year Awards Red Carpet: Honoree Shania Twain on New Music

By Alison Abbey | Parade | October 20, 2016

Country fans will tune in tonight to watch the CMT Artists of the Year Awards, where Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Thomas Rhett, Florida Georgia Line and Kelsea Ballerini will take the stage and take home trophies. But on the red carpet before Wednesday night’s taping of the show, there was one name on everyone’s lips: Shania.

The face of mid-90s through mid-00s country, Shania Twain was in attendance to accept the Artist of a Lifetime Award. Known for her glamorous videos, spunky lyrics and incredible stage presence, Twain has been relatively quiet since the conclusion of what was thought to be her farewell Rock This Country tour last fall. But rumors surfaced that the “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” singer was working on a new album, considering an overseas tour and a looking at a possible return to her residency in Las Vegas.

From Underwood, who presented Twain with her award, to newcomers Ballerini and pop singer Meghan Trainor, who performed a Shania tribute, everyone was gushing about the revolutionary entertainer, who changed the way the world heard—and saw—country music.

Even seasoned singer/actress Jill Scott, who joined Ballerini and Trainor in tribute, said she was anxious about performing for the mega-star. “The woman has some amazing songs—powerful woman songs,” she said. “Her videos were revolutionary; for fashion, for makeup. Her locations were awesome. She looks stunning [tonight]. So I’m a little daunted. I’m nervous.”

Twain, who reveled in the spotlight and unapologetically remained onstage for a longer acceptance speech than most award shows would allow, told the crowd she didn’t want to leave because “I am loving this moment.”

On the carpet, she shared some insights into her decision to come out of perceived retirement.

“I never said that I was going to stop recording,” Twain teased. “And there’s a lot of other countries that I have not toured yet, so I will finish that chapter, but the new music is imminent. I’m pretty much putting the icing on the cake and doing the final touches. This has been my project since the tour ended; it’s been my focus.”

But will this new album sound like classic Shania or serve as a sort of Shania 2.0? Twain says it’s a little of both.

“There’s a lot of variety. There might be more variety on this album than on any of my other albums,” she said. “There will be some surprises on there, and yeah, there are a couple things that are maybe more the classic ‘me’ of the past. I think it’s going to be very recognizable.”

Despite the variety, Twain says listeners can expect one constant: Her voice.

“I wrote all the songs, so there’s a continuity there, emotionally, even though the songs are all very different,” she said. “There’s a common thread in the emotion and in the voice. No matter what stylistically jumps around, the voice is what seems to tie it all together.”

Watch the CMT Artists of the Year Awards tonight at 9 p.m. ET.

Shania Twain takes a bold step as her own woman in the studio

By Hunter Kelly | Rare Country | October 21, 2016

Shania Twain stepped back into the spotlight at the CMT Artists of the Year event, where she was named 2016’s Artist of a Lifetime. Her three biggest albums — “The Woman in Me,” “Come on Over” and “Up” — have sold millions of millions of copies around the world, but she had her ex-husband, producer Mutt Lange, by her side for those projects. This time, she’s got the final say on what the lyrics say and how the music sounds.

Says Shania, “I’ve had to learn a lot about independence on this album. It’s been a lot of hard work, but the most fun hard work I think I’ve ever done so far.”

While we’ve got our fingers crossed for some fun, uptempo moments from Shania, fans should be prepared for a variety of styles to show up on the project.

“Well, this album is more diverse than any other album I’ve ever done,” Shania says. “Not that I’ve done a ton of albums, but it’s the most diverse of the albums I’ve done. There’s a lot of variety there, but what I’ve learned about myself is as the songwriter of all the songs, the emotions and the voice ties it all together as one artist.”

There’s no word on when Shania might be releasing her new music, but you can bide your time by picking up all four of Shania’s studio albums, which were just released on vinyl for the first time ever.

I think its great that she says new music is coming (then again, she was saying that last year and the year before that too) But she still acts very vague about the new music. She touches on the subject of it by saying that its a "diverse" new album. She said the same thing about the UP! album. It seems like the word "diverse" doesn't really give much detail, and she still does not give any kind of release date. She just says "very soon". Whenever she is asked about new music, the question is often dodged or its answered in a very general way with no details. The new album must be coming out in February at this point. The way I always understood it was that albums are released in 4 quarters. February, May, August, or November. Almost all her albums are a 4th quarter release date (November) and that is what we thought, but clearly its cutting it too close at this point as far as a new lead single and so forth. The Woman in Me was a first quarter release in February, so that will be the only option for this new album. She will let the holidays go by and then release a new single in either December or January, followed by a February album release. That's my best guess. I would sincerely hope she would not wait any longer than that.

Shania Twain on 'New Musical Chapter': The Ram Report

Icon tells us new album is "coming out really soon" and explains how she chose producers

Rolling Stone | October 25, 2016

It's been 14 years since Shania Twain released an album of new material, the 2002 double-disc Up. And judging by our conversation with her at last week's CMT Artists of the Year event, the wait won't be much longer.

"I have new music coming out really soon, and I'm very excited about it," she told Rolling Stone Country on the red carpet. "There will be a new musical chapter."

She went on to explain that the upcoming album is her most diverse yet. That's a big statement, considering Twain is the biggest crossover success in country music history.

The superstar's new music has been in the works for several years but has hit a few roadblocks along the way. First, she had to have surgery to repair vocal cord damage caused by dysphonia. She also had to find a new producer, as all of her past albums were produced by her now ex-husband, Mutt Lange.

Twain told us last year she's working with "a couple producers," one of whom we now know is Jake Gosling, a British songwriter/producer best known for his work with Ed Sheeran, James Bay and One Direction, among many other acts. Twain's strategy in finding the right producers went way beyond Nashville's borders and instead focused on her personal tastes: "OK, who is responsible for that song that I love, or who is responsible for this record that I love or that sound that I love?" she told us of her thought process when approaching potential collaborators. "I'm narrowing it down that way, as opposed to by genre."

There's no word yet on when we'll hear the first single from the icon's long-awaited project.

Well it will be great when this 'new musical chapter' starts! It's amazing that the only details of this new album is that it is "coming out really soon". If the album is so far along, I would think that there would be more details than that. I thought for sure that we would see a new album this year. We have been waiting and anticipating this new music for so long and now we are going to be into 2017 before we hear any new material. I hope that this 'musical chapter' as she calls it, is the beginning of more albums to come. She has been quoted as saying that she has written enough material for two new albums and that part of the reason she was ending the touring part of her career is because she feels like she has not made enough records in her lifetime. With that information, I am hoping that she releases new material at least every few years. It started that way with her albums (1993, 1995, 1997) even with up and the greatest hits (2002, 2004). I hope we get a new album in 2017 followed by another in 2019 and 2021, etc! But I guess its good just to focus on this new album that is coming! My biggest fear is that she will release this new album and then decide that she has been singing for long enough and that shes going to just write material for other artists and stop singing. But I try to put that in the back of my mind because she has said she has may more records to make, and many more songs to sing!

Shania's long-time hairstylist, Frankie Foye, who worked with Shania during the Billboard Women In Music event and photo shoot is traveling to The Bahamas to work on a "special project". She is with fellow hairstylist Lyndsay Musso. (Frankie and Lyndsay work together with Brandon Maxwell who designed Shania's custom suit last night). The project most likely has something to do with Shania. Maybe the photo shoot for the new album!

She is with fellow hairstylist Lyndsay Musso. (Frankie and Lyndsay work together with Brandon Maxwell who designed Shania's custom suit last night). The project most likely has something to do with Shania. Maybe the photo shoot for the new album!

It has nothing to do with Shania... Frankie is working with some models.

Yes, Shania isn't home. She just posted on Instagram a pic with Mariah Carey at her concert "All I Want For Christmas".

Well, Shania's award shows are over. I assume she'll be heading to Switzerland for Christmas and New Years. So now we just wait for some kind of music announcement. My guess is the new album will be released in March or April. So the lead single should be out by late January - mid February.

CelebMix is thinking the same way I am. They're saying the album is expected to be released by April.

The Albums We Can’t Wait For in 2017

2017 is looking like a fantastic musical year.

By Laura K | CelebMix | December 18, 2016

With 2017 just around the corner we thought we would take a peek into the future and reveal the albums we cannot wait to be released next year.

From Cheryl, to Shania Twain to Selena Gomez, 2017 is looking like it is going to be a brilliant year for the charts.

Here are our picks for the best albums coming out in 2017.

2: Shania Twain

The New Year will finally see country music legend Shania Twain release her fifth studio album. Her last LP ‘Up!’ was released way back in 2002, but now the multi Grammy award winner is at last gearing up to drop her brand new record. The new album is expected to be released before April, and will see Shania Twain dabbling with a slightly new sound as she has been working with music producers Matthew Koma, and Jake Gosling.

8 Of The Most Anticipated Country Albums Of 2017

By Hugh McIntyre | Forbes | December 27, 2016

2016 was the year when a handful of pop acts (Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and even Pink) all tried their hands at country music in one way or another, and while next year will probably see a few others attempt a genre change, those possibilities aren’t what many country fans are looking forward to. Big stars will release new material, still-growing talents, and even a legend or two are all attempting to make it to the top of the charts with new music, and all of it is already sounding like it will make next year pretty interesting to listen to.

Here are eight of the most highly anticipated country albums set to be released in 2017.

Little Big Town

After venturing into weird, trippy territory with the immediately forgotten Wanderlust, Little Big Town is ready to get back to the business of churning out serious country hits. The Breaker, the band’s eighth album, is slated for February 24 right now, and the campaign surrounding it has already started. Lead single “Better Man,” which was written by none other than Taylor Swift, broke into the top five on the country-specific chart, and it was a mild success on the Hot 100.

Shania Twain

It’s tough to believe it’s been 15 years since one of the most successful women to ever write and record country music has released an album, but thankfully that lengthy respite is about to come to an end. The Canadian star’s upcoming fifth full-length doesn’t yet have a name or date when it will be out, but according to the singer herself, it’s already done. Expectations are high, but no matter what, it will just be wonderful to have her back.

Brad Paisley

Love And War is scheduled to come out on February 17, and the superstar singer-songwriter is clearly putting in the effort to make this album even more successful than his previous ones. Paisley has reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with his last four albums in a row, which must be incredibly frustrating, and that’s a streak that he would surely love to break. The two singles thus far shared from Love And War, “Today” and “Without A Fight (ft. Demi Lovato),” have performed fairly well on the country tallies, though neither of them have become smashes just yet. If he wants a No. 1 album, he may need to pull a radio favorite out of his cowboy hat.

RaeLynn

She hasn’t yet released an album, but RaeLynn is already one of the most talked-about voices in country today. Her debut full-length WildHorse has been on its way for some time now, but those wanting to see what the relative newcomer has to offer are going to need to wait just a bit longer. The set isn’t slated to be released until June 2017, but with any luck, that date will be moved forward, if only slightly.

Lauren Alaina

After coming in second on the tenth season of American Idol, the future seemed bright for Lauren Alaina, and so far things have gone fairly well. Her debut full-length Wildflower peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and sold several hundred thousand copies, which is a great start to what should be a lengthy career. By the time Road Less Traveled is released on January 27, it will have been six years since her first record dropped, but hopefully her fans haven’t strayed too far.

Dustin Lynch

The singer’s upcoming third album is being delayed by his incessant touring schedule, but he insists that he is working on it non-stop when he can, and that it’s well on its way to being finished. Lynch has already released what is assumed to be the record’s lead single, “Seein’ Red,” which broke into the top 20 on the country-specific charts, giving him another win. 2014’s Where It’s At produced three very successful singles, so there are some pretty high expectations for this untitled effort.

Reba McEntire

The country legend has never slowed down, so why would she now? After releasing another Christmas album in September, she announced that her fans wouldn’t have to wait long for new music, but that she was going in a slightly different direction for her next project. Sing It Now: Songs of Faith & Hope, a gospel-leaning album, is set to hit stores February 3.

Darius Rucker

The one-time Hootie & the Blowfish leader has become one of the biggest stars in the country music world, and maintaining his position at the top means never allowing too much time to pass between records. The musician’s fifth country album is currently in the works, and a single entitled “If I Told You” has already been released. There is no word yet on when the project might be completed, but 2017 seems primed and ready for more Darius Rucker.

Keep An Ear Out For

While the schedule for this one medium is already quickly becoming busy with the eight records just mentioned, that doesn’t mean that nothing else will be announced as the year progresses. Few details are available about what artists and bands like Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, Luke Bryan, Zac Brown Band or Rascal Flatts are cooking up in the studio, but it’s been a little while since they launched proper album campaigns, and it would make sense for all of them to get back into the groove this coming year. Any, or all of them, could eventually reveal that new works are on the way.

At what point will they finally announce a album/single release? Usually even with a single they give a few weeks notice no?

Nowadays, artists usually announce and tease a single on Twitter/Facebook 3-5 days before it's released.

As far as the album, Shania will probably announce the release date shortly after the lead single is released. The album will most likely be released 6-8 weeks after the lead single.

I don't know why her label doesn't make an official announcement. She already did, even if we still don't know the album's title, its release date or the title of the lead single.

All this mystery around it doesn't make much sense anymore. There's no need to create expectation, fans have been waiting since 2004 for a new album and the hunger for some concrete news is sky-high now.

I agree. At this stage in the game, I have a hard time understanding why her label cannot come up with an official release date for anything and announce it. Shania has been teasing new music for years and it's even spilling over into this year with the statements "coming soon". We have heard spring, late spring, even early summer at this point. I just look at all of the other artists and the label has no issue announcing the date, even weeks ahead of the lead single! For some reason, Shania's music is wrapped up in all of this mystery and the only information fans have is "coming soon". The mystery does not make sense anymore and the label should be stepping up at this point and just announcing what month the album will be out and lead single. I have hard time believing that the label does NOT know when this album and single are coming out! Like I said, Shania has been teasing the new music for a long time now and maybe she cannot say because of restrictions from her label, but her label knows and there is no reason why they cant make an announcement already.

Lady Antebellum new album will be released June 9 and the lead single has been released TODAY!!!! Almost 6 months in advance!!!

Reba will release her new album on February 3rd and the first single has been released back in November.

April or May are perfect months to release the album for Shania, she could easily top the charts during the Spring months but all this silence from her record label make me think we won't get music as soon as Shania hints.

In general, what are the order of things as far as the new album? Does she release the lead single and then start a photo shoot for the new album cover and possibly make a music video for the lead single? Or Does she need to film a music video and do a photo shoot for the new album cover before she releases the lead single? If thats the case, maybe that's what's keeping her from releasing the lead single. If she needs to film a video and do photo shoots/promo for the new album cover, that all might take time. But it's been so long I cant remember if she generally releases the lead single and then gets all of that other stuff done.

I guess she should at least do the photoshoot as the single needs some kind of cover as well as the album and they often take photos for album and single covers from the same photoshoots.

I would say she does a photoshoot for the album and lead single first. A music video can be filmed before or after a lead single is released...

If this new album is going to be out before stagecoach, the single should be released in the next few weeks, right? Do you think she's waiting post-stage coach and just going with her hits? I'm anxiously waiting (like everyone!) for this new album!!

Maybe she'll pull a Beyonce and just drop the whole album!

I would say the lead single will be released by next month or early April and she will sing it at her Stagecoach concert on April 29... But the album may not be out by then. We'll see.

The Academy of Country Music Awards are Sunday, April 2. That would be the perfect opportunity for Shania to perform the lead single for the first time.

I'm ready to bet the album will drop April 28th so she will sing some tracks the day after at Stagecoach. She can't do another concert based only on the old hits. Not when she has already confirmed new music in 2017.
