Shania Twain tops celebrity birthdays for August 28

Canadian country queen Shania Twain is blowing out an extra birthday candle today.

She turns 48.

Here's some facts about the Windsor, Ont., born Twain:

- despite popular belief, she is not a direct descendent of Mark Twain.
- her parents were killed in a car crash when she was 22
- received the Order of Canada on November 18, 2005
- started writing songs when she was 8 years old
