Tommy, just because they're relevant now, does not mean they will be remembered or are producing stellar work. Shania's writing is so powerful to me. It's just so genuine. "It's all about forgiving and the WILL to walk away." How freaking beautiful is that?! I don't care if LATGG is a big hit or if it fits in with what's on the radio. If everyone created to fit in, then how boring would that be?? Like I said, I'm a fan of Shania's artistry, not relevance.

Country 105 (Calgary, Alberta, Canada)

I got the chance to speak with Shania Twain today about her new album "Now" that comes out September 29th. She talks about some of her favourites in country music right now, how things have changed since the last time she released an album, and what we can look forward to on the new one. - Lindsay Rae

Chappy, I'd love to hear the remix. Do you know where we can find it?

Also, aj1995, please keep the tracks to yourself. I don't see why any of us would want her music to be leaked. Let's just be patient.

I don't know why everyone is being so negative on here lately. We've been waiting for new music for 15 years. And as far as Country radio goes, who cares!? Shania is way too sophisticated for the genre. It's full of songs that sound identical to each other and the the lyrical content is always about drinking, bars, trucks, faux patriotism, etc. They can keep that crap.

It wasn't the whole song, the DJ snuck in the final chorus from "Lifes about joy..." at the end of a track (not sure what that track was). It sounded soooo good with all that bass!

Yup lots of negative people on here obsessed how Shania does on country radio lol listen people, Shania was always an album oriented aritist and not single driven. I have no clue how country radio will accept her songs but it is way too early to tell anything. The promotion has barely started for anything. Also i could care less if her current song released does well on country radio. I think it is a great song and way better than the trash on country radio. The bottom line is that Shania will sell tons of albums this holiday season and in the fouth quarter nomatter how many hits she has on radio off this album. To be honest the two songs i have heard off this album so far are very excellent songs and can stand up to the trash on radio today. That doesn't mean it will get the deserved ariplay since she is over fifty years old . But seriously people take a very deep breath lol The album will sell lots and she will have lots of great songs off the album i am sure. Don't jump off the bridge yet, she hasn't even released her sure to be best seller album . Go for a walk or a run or play some sports this summer lol Then go and buy her album in September .

I am not upset that she's not at the top of the charts, it upsets me when country radio doesn't give her the support she truly deserves. I love Shanias music regardless but it would be nice to see more radio support. I am not bashing Shania but people are entitled to say if they like a song or not. I love swinging with my eyes closed better than Life's about to get good. Just a personal opinion. I still like the song I just prefer one over the other.

I think everyone is being a bit cynical. Shania never was a true country artist to begin with. She first started out as a rock singer, that was what she wanted to be. She is obviously not trying to become a chart topping radio artist anymore. Country radio won't accept her new material because it is not relevant to what is being played. She has been gone for so long that the industry has done passed her. I mean think about it, she even passed the digital downloads era. Her last album was at the peak of physical albums selling. She never released anything to be a part of the digital download era via iTunes, and now that she is back, she is releasing material in a complete streaming driven era. 15 years is a long time to not have new material in a quickly changing business. I wouldn't be surprised to see Shania and Mercury Nashville part ways once this album is released. Shania doesn't need a record label to back her up. She has enough funds to become her own label. I'm actually surprised Mercury has stuck with Shania since it's been that long. What was popular 20 years ago is no longer popular. I wish Shania all the best on her new album and singles, and I am looking forward to hearing the new material, because I actually like her. However, to see so many negative posts over the last several days bashing her because she is not getting radio play is quite sad. It is not uncommon for an artist her age to not receive radio play, no matter how good you are. Plus, if she is deciding to record another album soon, it looks like that could be another 3-5 years away if she plans on doing a tour in support of this new album.

‘I’m not mad drinking’: Shania Twain responds to brouhaha over HNIC appearance

By Nelson Branco | Toronto Sun | July 7, 2017

It's not like she threw a beer can at a player!

You might remember Shania Twain’s appearance on Hockey Night in Canada during Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins last month.

“I’m doing fantastic,” enthused Twain, whose long-awaited album Now drops on September 29, to Hockey Night’s Scott Oake in a segment that went viral.

Her bubbly interview quickly set Twitter and Facebook ablaze, with many users debating whether the 5-time Grammy winner had been imbibing during the game.

Not that there is anything wrong with that!

The Toronto Sun spoke exclusively with Twain, who is returning to the spotlight since 2002 after battling Lyme Disease, to ask if she had seen the online brouhaha.

“I did see bits of it,” laughs Twain. “I was just having fun! I’m not mad drinking. Are you kidding? Hockey’s rowdy! It’s time to have fun. It was really loud in [Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena] too. I’m a hockey fan … So many of our Canadian players play all over North America so no matter where I’m watching, I’m happy and supporting our guys.”

Look for a more extensive interview with the Ontario native in the fall about her first album since 2002. But for now, Twain does tease she will be touring with Now – with stops in Canada. “Of course!” she promises.

Shania Twain says battle with Lyme disease affected her vocal cords

The country singer said she contracted the disease during 2003 Up! tour

By Victoria Ahearn | The Canadian Press | July 7, 2017

Shania Twain was riding high in the early-2000s, coming off the smash success of the hit-packed Come On Over and the release of Up!, which topped Billboard's album charts and got her booked to perform at the Super Bowl.

Then she saw the small bug.

"I saw a tick fall off me," Twain recalled in a phone interview Thursday.

The Canadian country-pop music superstar was bitten by the tick in Norfolk, Va., and started immediately experiencing symptoms that threatened her performances.

"I was on tour, so I almost fell off the stage every night," said the Timmins, Ont.-raised singer-songwriter.

"I was very, very dizzy and didn't know what was going on. It's just one of those things you don't suspect."

Twain sought treatment and was subsequently diagnosed with Lyme disease, a tick-borne bacteria that leads to flu-like symptoms and can spread within the body.

For Twain it resulted in dysphonia, a vocal cord disorder that eventually left her unable to sing for a while and forced her to undergo extensive speech therapy and vocal training.

"It's difficult work," she said. "It's like dealing with an injury. I'm just glad that it's not my heart or my kidneys or something like that. At least I can do something about it."

With a confessional new single on the charts — Life's About to Get Good, off her upcoming album Shania Now (due Sept. 29) — Twain is talking for the first time about personal issues including her Lyme battle.

Though she was diagnosed right away, she didn't realize until recently that it was Lyme that led to her vocal issues, which audiences first learned about on the 2011 docu-series Why Not? With Shania Twain.

"It took all these years to determine that," said Twain. "Then it was all about, 'Now what do I do about it? How can I fix it?' So that took several years, just working out what therapy would work for me, without even knowing how well it would work in the end.

"But with perseverance and determination, I was able to record the album and I was able to tour. Getting through all of that, I'm encouraged now and I feel like I can tour again and I'll make more records. So I'm feeling really successful with that challenge."

Caught in a 'very short window'

The five-time Grammy Award winner cautions nature lovers to be vigilant about searching for ticks.

"[Lyme] is very dangerous because you have a very short window to catch it and then treat it and then even when you treat it, you could still very well be left with effects, which is what happened to me," she said.

"Normally it can attack your nervous system or the vital organs — heart, liver, kidneys, nervous system. It's a debilitating disease and extremely dangerous. You can't play around with it, so you've got to check yourself for ticks."

Twain said she counts herself lucky that she saw the tick fall off her, noting many people don't.

"You've got to check out where you are and whatever region you're in and what the rate of Lyme disease is in the region, if you're going to go out in nature," she said. "And I love nature, so that's a big bummer for me."

Twain is one of several celebrities who have spoken out about their experience with Lyme disease, including fellow Canadian Avril Lavigne, Alec Baldwin, and former US President George W. Bush.

genuine's a great word for the songwriting on this album. and thoughtful. and that second verse of swingin'!

life is short, nights are long / nothing's sure in this world till we're gone / fear disappears each time i close my eyes / i kiss you once (kiss kiss) i kiss you twice

come on! name a modern performer whose lyrics are that … stylish? i don't know what word properly captures the essence (except "Shania"?) but the word play she employs in life's about to get good (with "about" as a definition and also measure of time) continues in poor me. even though i purchased tracks 1, 4 & 11 in that fluke window of opportunity--and probably wasn't the only one--i know they're meant to be confidential and i will respect that. besides, my name is attached to those files, so i won't be the one to leak them. i am, however, open to answering questions to whoever's curious; and what i wanted to say about poor me is lyrically and structurally it's very clever. "poor me this, poor me that…" she trivializes her self-pity in the chorus (or "stupid pride" as calls it in verse two) and finishes it off: "poor me. pour me … another." very haunting track!

At the end of the interview Shania says the next single will be "Swingin' With My Eyes Closed" which will be out later in the Summer.

So that means "Swingin' With My Eyes Closed" will have a HUGE job in pushing the initial sales of NOW. This will be the song Shania performs when she does the talk show circuit tour, possible award shows, etc in September/October to promote the album. Let's hope it has better success than "LATGG" did!

How are the other tracks? Details, please. I want the chorus of Swinging... to be just a wall of sound.

I think looking at its charts and radio performance it might be a smart move not to spend money in recording a video. Should release a blockbuster song with video just right before the album release.

She already shot the video for "LATGG" last month (early June) in the Dominican Republic. It will probably be released in the next few weeks. It has to be strange for an artist to release a video for a song that isn't even on the charts anymore and almost non-existent on the radio.

When you look at some of the comments on Shanias page and When you watch Swinging With my eyes closed on YouTube and read the comments, People love the song a lot and most want it released. I really do think this song can be a hit will it be ? Time will tell but it's catchy and got Rock,Pop and Country into it. Any opinions?

It also depends on how much effort Shania and her team will make to push the song. I like it better that LATGG. Hope it will do better as well. But I still want a video for LATGG!

I like "Swingin'" a lot better than "LATGG" but unfortunately I think it will struggle getting radio airplay and climbing the U.S. charts as well. This "new sound" from Shania is not really radio friendly and isn't what Country radio is looking for. People on here can get mad at what I say but I'm just telling it like it is. I've been an all-genre radio enthusiast all my life. I know what stations listen for. Shania's new music (at least the stuff we've heard) doesn't make the cut sound-wise for Country radio. I put most of the blame on the producers. But I don't know why Shania went with guys like Matthew Koma and Jake Gosling. They work with mostly Pop/Rock artists. I don't think they really know the "Country radio/artist" scene.

You're right, Tommy. Shania probably won't blend in with Country Radio today. This is because country music is horrible! I'm happy she doesn't sound like the artists on country radio. I can guarantee her music is going to sell big though! She's always been most successful with album sales. Her music is still unique, it stands out different from everyone else and thats what I love most about her.

Exactly!! why would she want to sound like country songs today lol They are horrible LOL  Shania chose the producers that would interpret what she wanted to sound like and i love the new sound. It doesn't matter what producer or sound she had, country radio has not been friendly to her for a while. i am glad she doesn't sound like the crap on country radio today. She will sell lots of albums no matter what this holiday season.  Shania knew exactly what she was doing when she chose the producers and it was to do the music she wanted to and not kiss ass so she can sound like country songs today 😁😃😃

I hope you guys are right and NOW sells well. But without the support of radio it's going to be tough. Like I said before, radio still drives album and singles sales. Sure, Shania fans will buy the album but if the general public doesn't hear her new songs on the radio it's not likely people are going to buy the album. Remember she's been gone 15 years! She needs to be "out there" and heard.

yes singles drive album sales primarily but during the holiday season and the fourth quarter she could have no single out and her album will sell well, There will be promotion and maybe a video and another single and during the holiday season people will just buy it as a gift because Shania is a huge name with her first album in 15 years. She will need a hit single for the sales to do well from January on, By then one of her songs may be a hit. i think she is happy with her album nomatter what. i think all her songs will be great quality,  Sorry but just because her first single has not done well on country radio yet does not mean it isn't a good song, It means country radio has bad taste, Seriously have you heard some of the crappy dull horrific songs in the top 10?lol  Some of her songs will be a success i think but maybe more internationally than on dull boring horrible biased ass kissing country radio 😲😲😁😁

tommy is correct: the new music doesn't make the cut sonically for country radio, but that's not to lay blame on anyone. the new music is brilliant! albeit not country radio friendly; as others have pointed out, why would she want to be? shania's always been difficult to classify, but over time she's credited for testing the boundaries and pushing genres further. if she sounded like anything remotely mainstream, she'd be raked over the coals for losing her edge. and ever since we've heard for ourselves that NOW doesn't blend with country radio, fans here are still scolding her!?… every major publication will surely give this album terrific reviews and that'll drive album sales, with or without the help of radio.

that's not to say there aren't country elements to the songs. the final cut of swingin', for example, is the unique mix of reggae and rock we all heard on today, but laced with more fiddles and an outlaw country guitar lick that leads into the violin solo which is even longer on the studio version. overall i do agree the production is too new to be embraced by country radio programmers, but the song is pure ear candy… there is an audience for it somewhere.

we've got something they don't is also pop. flirty, fun. a perfect windows down–music loud song. it's heavy on drums, electric guitar, hand claps, and a brass section in the instrumental solo. this is where her signature cheerleader shouts make a comeback: "flame so hot / lights go out / we're on fire / we're home / sweet home / oh don't it taste good / to be together!" she certainly hasn't lost her pop sensibility as far as yelps, sighs, ha's, hey's, etc. but her vocal performances are twangier, i'd say. the vocals on poor me are the most country element of the otherwise pop (vaguely electronic) production, especially as she pronounces the song's title. the listening party guest who likened it to madonna's frozen was right-on.

i hope this three-song review encourages more of you than not and describes music you'll all wanna listen to :)

Shania Twain

I wrote Life's About To Get Good whilst in the Bahamas. I was in a very melancholy mood, but the view was so beautiful and when I looked up, it made me remember the good in life. It's a song that's just so optimistic and hopeful. https://play.spotify.com/track/2W1JgNjcRMc3QiLjkXMPh4

Is the bridge of Swingin' on the album as odd as they played it live (violins that out of a sudden disrupt the beat?)

violins are still there, but the studio version blends that section better than the live arrangement. the beat is extended for megaphone-effected vocals to echo "only god knows … how far … it goes" and that's where the violins enter. the solo itself is twice as long and builds steadily to the final chorus.

Interview on 93.7 JR-FM in Vancouver (July 6)

***Towards the end of the interview Shania mentions she has a string of TV lined up over the Summer (probably talk shows in September) and that she'll be at the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York City which will be held August 28 - September 10. Not sure if she'll just be a spectator or maybe a performance on center court at Arthur Ashe Stadium?

A pretty weird interview (if you want to call it that) on Nova 100 in Melbourne, Australia. The DJs just wanted to act stupid and joke around with Shania.

An update on LATGG, it still sits at number 72 on the newest mediabase charts for the US country airplay charts. In Canada, it moved up one spot to number 35 on the country airplay charts. The single is not doing well at all. This marks Shania's 5th consecutive single to miss the top 20 on country radio in the US.

The song fell off all U.S. and Canadian Billboard charts last week except the Canada Country chart (#38 - it moved up from #49 the previous week). I wonder if it will still be on this week's Canada Country chart when it comes out on Tuesday.

Tommy,

Since the first single in LATGG failed to gain any traction on radio, when do you think would be the time for Shania to release the second single Swingin'? It would make sense for her to release it sometime before the album came out, so maybe this August, or early September? Also, I saw someone mention on the thread that she had already shot a music video for LATGG. Do you think it she will shelve the video and not release it since it faired so poorly on radio?

I posted an interview up above (July 7) where Shania said she'll release "Swingin'" later this Summer. I'd say the end of August. The video for LATGG will probably be out by the end of this month.

I think Shania is gearing up for the release of her "Life's About To Get Good" music video. Shania just answered 2 fans on Twitter, in 2 separate tweets. One fan asked where is the Life's About To Get Good video, where she gladly just answered with "Soon  ". Another fan asked "Are we gonna get a music video for "Life's About To Get Good?" Which Shania gladly answered with a "Yes".

I know LATGG isn't doing well in the charts, and has already fallen off some charts, but I feel confident we are probably gonna be seeing the LATGG music video within the next couple of weeks.

Shania Twain previews her new album Now: "There are a lot of conflicting emotions"

One of the world's bestselling artists talks about gearing up to release her first album in 15 years.

By Jack White | Official Charts | July 13, 2017

For Shania Twain fans, Life's About To Get Good.

The star is gearing up to release a new album - her first in 15 years - this September, and Official Charts (along with other journalists) was given a preview of what to expect from the collection at a showcase event in London.

Shania herself was in attendance to explain how the record, called Now, came together. "The running theme for me personally through the songwriting," she said, "is really about ‘then’ and ‘now’. 'Then' being from the beginning of my life through all the ups and downs, and the peaks and valleys.

"Life's About To Get Good is all about the journey from sad to happy, and lost to found. The journey in my life is hopefully not over, but I'm enjoying living in the moment, living in the now more than I ever have."

Having gone more than a decade without releasing new music, Shania talked about the challenges she faced, during her time out of the spotlight, including the breakdown of her first marriage.

"I'm just relishing the whole experience of being able to have recorded again, to have the courage to put my voice back on something so permanent as a record. It's the most transparent expression of my experiences in life.

"It's not a divorce album that I think is maybe a little expected. Of course, there are some references to that low in my life but a lot of the references are really more overall, about a lot of the losses and the griefs from my life. And then there's the optimism, the gift that is the light at the end of the tunnel and woven through the album. There are a lot of conflicting emotions."

Shania speaking to journalists at BAFTA in London.

Shania, whose album Come On Over is the best-selling album ever worldwide by a female artist, also touched upon the vocal surgery that left her wondering if she would ever be able to sing again.

"I've had a lot of voice problems over many, many years and it's been a super long journey all the way back up. Songwriting is my favourite part about what I do, and there was a time I never thought I would sing again.

"But I never gave up the songwriting. I believed that maybe if I wasn't able to record my own music, that at least maybe somebody else would and my songs could live through other artists."

Thankfully, Shania has been able to return to singing, and she'll also return to the UK stage on September 10 for Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park. She's Still The One.

Shania Twain's fifth studio album Now is available on September 29. The single Life's About To Get Good is available now.

Shania's face seems to have changed dramatically within the last year. Has she received Botox? Her eyebrows also look different.

SHANIA TWAIN: THE COMEBACK
Shania Twain was robbed of her voice by Lyme disease and her husband by her best friend – but she’s back with a new album and to tell the tragic tale

The Man I Feel Like A Woman singer also discussed pal Taylor Swift, working with Niall Horan and the creative process behind upcoming album Now in the latest episode of the Bizarre Life podcast

From Dan Wootton's Bizarre Column | The Sun | July 13, 2017

A CRUSHING divorce after her best friend stole her husband and the loss of her precious singing voice.

Those are two good reasons why country legend SHANIA TWAIN — one of the biggest-selling stars in music — virtually disappeared from the entertainment industry for the last 15 years.

But now the Man! I Feel Like A Woman singer is releasing her first album since 2002 and telling the full story of her traumatic time away from the spotlight.

In an emotional new episode of my Bizarre Life podcast — which you can download now from iTunes or any podcast provider — the 51-year-old reveals her shock as her 17-year marriage to her producer husband MUTT LANGE broke down.

Shania — who lost both her parents in a car accident when she was 21 — tells me: “I thought everything was great. I mean, I thought the worst in my life was over, basically.

“A mistake. Never think that. You never know what’s coming around the corner.”

In a devastating twist, Mutt left Shania, pictured with me, for her best friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud, leaving the singer understandably “shattered”.

She says: “I thought that marriage was forever. I really, really believed that. I thought, ‘I’m safe. This creative relationship is forever’. And I really counted on that.

“I never even considered that it would ever be different. I was committed and that would be the rest of my life. I was sure of that.

“So when that fell away, the marriage fell away, the friendship falls away with that, and every part of that falls away. And of course the musical collaboration fell away.”

In an extraordinarily happy twist, Shania is now married to Frederic Thiebaud, who was the husband of the best friend who betrayed her.

But her divorce meant she was determined to be totally independent, both in life and her music.

She explains: “I think, for me, love is a gift. It’s a necessity. But you’re still lucky if you have it, so you can’t count on it.

“And I guess in that sense, that’s where my survival instincts come in.

“If I had never found love again, I’m not going to lay down and die. But I’m very lucky that I did.

“And that of course re-energises all of the inspiration that any creative person needs. Falling in and out of love is always inspiration to be creative, for me.”

After the break-up, Shania threw herself into bringing up son Eja, who is now 15.

She says: “You know there’s a blessing in everything and taking all of those years off from the studio, off from the touring. I was enjoying being a mother.

“I wasn’t resenting the fact that I wasn’t in the studio, that I wasn’t touring. I was loving being a mum.”

Shania’s new album Now is one that she believed for a long time would never be released.

She lost her singing and much of her speaking voice after a tick caused her to contract Lyme disease.

She says: “This is a specific type of tick. It more commonly attacks the vital organs.

“It’s a very debilitating disease, very degenerative. So I was very lucky at all that it affected the nerves on my vocal cords, not the vocal cords.

“I lost my voice for several years and I could speak but I couldn’t yell. I could never yell for my dog or my son or whatever.

“I also felt that I was never going to make another album — that was probably my truth. It was devastating. I really grieved about that. It did bring me down and I struggled with it every day.

“It was very depressing and I was really sad about it but I still had my writing and my writing is my first love, really, over everything.

“I was only going to be a writer and not the performer.”

Shania spent years battling to get her voice back, which she says was “a very long, drawn-out process”.

After a successful Las Vegas residency and US tour, she knew she had “no excuse but to move forward and face the fear”.

Critically for her, she wrote and recorded her latest album largely on her own.

Shania added: “The last thing I wanted to do at this point in my life after surviving all of that was rely on somebody else to take this huge step with me.

“I wanted to do it on my own, I wanted the challenge.”

Challenge well and truly accomplished. Shania deserves to be back in the charts.

I love what I’m Horan right now

AS one of country music’s greatest talents, Shania has a queue of stars lining up to work with her – but one Irishman in particular has caught her eye.

I told in May how ONE DIRECTION’s NIALL HORAN had bonded with her in the studio after meeting through their mutual producer Jacquire King.

And luckily for Niall, Shania has offered to lend a hand on his debut album, which he is currently putting the finishing touches to.

Shania says: “We need to write together. I think that would be a really successful, creative time.

“He’s a sweetheart and we get along really well. I think he’s great. I think he’s really wonderful. He’s very organic and natural.”

But Niall has to start returning Shania’s calls . . .

She laughs: “I am a little ticked with him because I texted him yesterday and he didn’t answer me. Normally he answers right away.

“I said to myself, ‘Well, we’ll see about that!’”

Hurry up, Niall – you don’t want to lose that superstar collaboration.

Pals with Taylor

SHANIA has successfully inspired a whole new generation of singers, from ED SHEERAN to HAIM.

And she is now close pals with the woman who has undoubtedly become her most famous successor – TAYLOR SWIFT.

When asked if Taylor had sought her advice, she admitted: “Yes, but we won’t talk about those things. We’ve run into each other a few times over the years.

“She’s so talented and I admire her ability to write stories and music that communicate so well.”

Getting Shania’s seal of approval must mean so much.

First listen

SHANIA’S new album Now – released in September – is a triumph of a comeback.

She’s allowed me to be one of the only folk in the world over the past few weeks to listen to it and I’m convinced it’s going to be a contender for my Album of the Year.

There are big Shania bangers like That Don’t Impress Me Much with a little modern dance and reggae influence for good measure.

But Shania really shines on emotional ballads detailing the heartbreak of her last decade.

Her new single Life’s About To Get Good is a perfect mix of the negativity of the past few years crossed with optimism about what’s to come.

She says: “It represents so much of what the album is really about.”

------------------------------

HOW BIZARRE

Shania tells of her oddest...

  • GIG: SHANIA has played in some of the world’s most famous venues and is currently in the midst of planning her next tour, but she won’t be returning to her most bizarre gig location. The Canadian singer admitted that it took place in “a stripper bar”.
  • TALE: ASKED about the most unlikely story she has ever read about herself, she said: “Oh, that I lied about my heritage. Yeah, I thought that was so weird, that was bizarre. I’m like, ‘What?!’ Well, I have a very confusing background.”
  • PARTY: YEARS of showbiz bashes can’t compete with one she witnessed in the Caribbean. She said: “I ended up at a nudist beach party. It was the only room available so I walk out of my balcony and everybody’s nude having a party down at the bar.”
