Starting today, wine drinkers can toast the City of Timmins.

Just in time for the May Run long weekend, four bottles of wine now available at the LCBO represent the city's 100 year celebrations.

City representatives introduced the types yesterday at the Shania Twain Centre.

All four, priced between $10.95 and $14.95, are emblazoned with the City of Timmins 100th Anniversary logo.

They include: East Dell Estate's Black Cab 2007, Dan Aykroyd's 2007 Cabernet Shiraz, Birchwood Estate's 2007 Riesling, and East Dell Estate's 2008 Pinot Grigio.

More than 80 wineries were in the running, with several testers attending a tasting at the Shania Twain Centre in December.

Mayor Tom Laughren called it the perfect time to toast Timmins, with the four 100-year anniversaries coming up, and to toast the many partners who made this happen.

"Like a fine wine, our city continues to get better with time," Laughren said.

Jack Watson, who was the chairman of the initiative, thanked Guy Lamarche and Marcel Gauthier for their assistance.

Gauthier phoned several wineries to see if there was interest in becoming the city's commemorative wine.

Watson estimated 20 white wines were tasted and 24 red. He also thanked those who came to judge them.

He encouraged residents to purchase lots of bottles, since 50 cents from each goes toward the city's 100thanniversary celebrations.

Peter Toms, Ontario Sales Manager for Diamond Estates Wines, said the selections also represent significant milestones for the supplier.

Coun. Michael Doody served as the official master of ceremonies for the unveiling.

"I know we're not going to be selling them by the bottle," he said, "but by the case."

Laughren reminded people to drink responsibly.
