Why donations to the Alzheimer Society? Did she have Alzheimer disease? Anyway, it's sad but it is natural when old people pass away. I mean the saddest thing is that almost all of her kids died earlier that her. I wonder if Shania will be there on Monday. I think it's important to say the last goodbye. There won't be another chance. :(

I was watching the CMT Insider in Switzerland special with Katie Cook a few days ago and during the clip where Shania says "My grandmother had a saying about cookie crumbs in bed".....they show a clip of Shania hugging Selina Twain, when she was given a key to the city of Timmins in 1996.

I imagine they were close, after all she was Jerry's mother, so I don't know how some certain individuals can suggest that Shania would not be upset by her passing, and wouldn't bother to attend her funeral.

Some ppl, and they know who they are have behaved DISGRACEFULLY. Who calls the funeral home to get info on this to then go a message board and discuss Shania's behaviour whether she attended or not? This is not an award ceremony, leave Shania and her family alone, you are totally disgraceful. Get a life. And you wonder why Shania stays away? DISGUSTING.

Her grandmother looks like she was a very sweet lady. I'm sure Shania has many fond and cherished memories of her. Alzheimer's, when advanced, robs families of the one they loved long before they die. It is very painful when the one you love does not recognize or remember anything. Shania can't win, if she goes then they could turn a sad time into a media frenzy, if she dosen't go to prevent that from happening to her family, then they will talk about her then also. I wish her comfort in her sorrow and peace in her life.

Well I for one can not believe "fans" would go so low as to call the funeral home and bother them just to find out if Shania is going. It does not get more intrusive than that at a time like that. Those kinds of ppl are worse than paparazzi. No wonder she stays away. What is there to gain from this? If she did attend then she has ppl poking their noses into a very sad and personal occasion, if she doesnt then they look to put her down for not caring, as is happening by certain individuals.

Do you have any idea how upsetting that will be for Shania to read? Maybe she didnt go because her bioological father was there and it would be too distressing, she will pay her respects in her own time and own way. Maybe she was there and they didnt want to tell you. Butt out! If Shania never comes back for reasons like this then you are to blame, she wants normality in her life and her son's life, she cant even go to a family funeral without you so called fans bothering her. Disgraceful.

Mind your own business!

I agree there are certain things which all fans should realize are off limits, and the death of a loved one goes without saying.......at least it should.

What some ppl totally fail to understand is it is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS. This is Eilleen, not Shania, keep your nose out of something so private and personal especially so emotional as this. I wouldn't dare call the funeral home to ask that, this is not a public appearance which anybody can show up to. Yes it was in the paper and may have said ppl can attend but they sure did not mean for fans trying to get a glimpse of a grieving Eilleen. Nobody can make it sound ok because the paper said it then its ok to start pestering the funeral director. This is about morals and showing the correct responsible behavior and some ppl just dont know how to behave. And to say we are obssessed and dont get the balance right in life, well we are not the ones calling the funeral director are we? Just butt out.

I totally argree with you on this.  I also believe that Shania was very close to her grandmother. She used to go stay with them on the reservation with her entire family.  Her grandfather taught her how to track and trap rabbits and there on the reservation they all shared everything as far as food and shelter when they visited.  I am sure that she used her time there as an escape from how her life was away from there.  I mean she was afraid for anyone to know she was going hungry because she didn't want to be taken from her parents on the reservation she didn't go hungry or have to worry about being taken from her parents.  There was no rich or poor there.  Families knew each other well enough that they all helped each other with whatever they needed and there was no social stigma as far as people looking at you differently because you didn't have fine things.  At least that is what I got out of that part of her life. She would also see her uncles and cousins who would teach her guitar and let her play and sing with them.  So I feel sure that she spent a lot of time with her grandmother.  I think the reason she didn't and doesn't go to things like funerals and weddings is because she has respect for the people she loves and knows that if she shows up it will take the focus off of the real purpose of the event and will end up causing hurt and resentment for her and also be hard on the family and she know this.  It's not that she doesn't care it's that she cares too much to put her loved ones through that.Just my view.

Warmest regards as always,
Tonto

Thats a very good point Tonto, its not right that ppl jump to conclusions, of course she cared for her family and she will grieve in her own private way. Maybe she is so used to being famous she knows to avoid things like this to save her family the press intrusion. Its not right fans judging her when they dont know the truth. It must be a reason why she stays away for so long, some ppl act like they own her and demand to know everything about her like it is their right or something. It isnt. They just buy the cd or go the concert, they get what they pay for but in no way does she have to give her private life to anyone.

Some ppl are just so full of it. How does anybody know for sure she didnt attend anyway? One notorious person seems happy to go around the net labeling Shania as this terrible person for not going. One moment he is saying he assures us "NO press even attended the service or even reported on it"... then he says "every single press person I have talked to insist SHE DID NOT SHOW at the service"...so how do the press know if they werent even there to see it?!  This lying and attention seeking is boring for us and damaging to Shania, all so one person can get his sad thrills at his false rumour making and making a name for himself. Its laughable.

Its not right someone as confused as he is goes around saying such things about her when he cant even decide for himself what he thinks! Were the press there or not? If they were not then dont tell us the press say she wasnt there...because they dont know themselves. This so called asking the press, the STC, local DJs, funeral directors...its probably all garbage. Who does that? Get a life.

80 is still attainable by most with good genes, luck and healthy lifestyles - so is 90.

I play poker with lots of WW II veterans at a Veterans Home. They are all in their 80s mainly.

My father will turn 80 aug 29 so it is attainable. With this heath care debate going on the media has been talking alot about average life expectancy,78.6 in USA,i think it was the Netherlands that had the highest at 80 plus a few months.

Shania had once been asked how Mutt's mother called him and she answered "she used to call him John". So she said it in the past tense. I undestood it as his mother had died.

So sad. I'm sure her grandma's presence will always be there. The physical body dies but the spiritual remains. I hope Shania was there to see Selina before her passing.
