Just days after opening up about her relationship with Frédéric Thiébaud, Shania Twain is also getting cozy — professionally-speaking — with Simon Cowell during her stint as a guest judge for American Idol’s Chicago auditions.

“She’s loving American Idol. She’s having the best time,” says a source close to the singer, who is filling Paula Abdul’s vacant seat during auditions Monday and Tuesday in the Windy City. “She and Simon have a really great rapport with each other. They’re funny together.”

Cowell isn’t the only one having fun with Twain, 44. “The crew loved working with her,” says an Idol source. “Everyone thought she was a great addition to the judges’ table. She showed up in good spirits and had a lot of fun. She was clearly really excited to be a part of the day.”

Twain’s stint on the talent search capped an unusually public week for the typically private singer, who last week finally opened up about her relationship with Thiébaud. “She’s the happiest I’ve seen her in years. I know [he] has a lot to do with it,” says the Twain source, adding, “She’s really pleased to be in the public eye again.”

Shania Twain I thought it would be almost impossible to fill Paula Abdul's shoes as a judge on American Idol. Even temporarily. Because she was always the nice one. The one who tempered criticism with praise. But now it looks like the folks at American Idol have found someone just as sweet to sit behind that judge's table: Shania Twain. She is reportedly the latest guest judge and will be taking part in the auditions in Chicago on Aug. 30-31. It's not the coming-out-of-retirement move I would've expected from her, but she's always been a vital part of what makes country so pop, so she's a good fit for this competition. Fox Entertainment Chairman Peter Rice says guest judges like Twain will be in place until they find the right permanent replacement. "What we need to find is someone who has great chemistry," he said. "It's really a casting job."

American Idol is the perfect thing for Shania's career right now. I know she is nowhere near to having an album at this point, but perhaps we might see her on a duet with one of the AI contestants, or just a duet with someone like Michael Bublé - the way she did with Anne Murray, but hopefully with a video this time.

American Idol is such a 'machine' in that they have access to the best producers, songwriters, publicists etc...If Shania wanted to do just one song and release it, this team could really help her out.

And we already know that Mark Knopfler has offered to write and produce with Shania. And we know from the video/travelogue that Quincy Jones and Shania have met.

The possibilities are endless. Still, I'm just happy to see her out of the reclusive lifestyle she had with Mutt. Shania out of her 'shell' is a good thing for fans, as well as for Shania.

I will patiently wait for Shania to release music whenever she feels it is the right time.

Looking as goregous as ever, Shania Twain happily posed alongside some pop star wannabes as she played the role of guest judge for American Idol during Chicago auditions yesterday (August 31).

Slowly but surely, the 44-year-old country singer is making a comeback after taking years off following a string of uber successful albums.

Miss Twain sounded chatty and upbeat in a note posted to her fans over the weekend on her website, as she opened up for the first time since her marriage to Mutt Lange ended more than a year ago. The split came when he took up with her longtime best friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud, who also managed the couple’s chateau in Switzerland.

“I’m ‘okay’ - yes, I hit a very big bump in the road, but Eja (her 8-year-old son) and I are doing well. … ” Shania also posted a video of her recent travels, starting with sky diving in Key West. “I feel very much alive and well. … Living, loving, laughing and dreaming have become highest on my list of priorities. … I consider myself on a journey of discovery and recovery,” she says. “I don’t accept to be held down by the past, nor do I expect too much of the future.”

With her on that journey right now is Thiebaud’s ex-husband, Frederic “Fred” Thiebaud, whom Shania calls “a dear friend and true gentleman.”

Yet Shania Twain also has crossover appeal as a pop artist, so she could be helpful to contestants of all genres.

Shania Twain Guest-Judging on American Idol: Other Possibilities

During the audition rounds, American Idol will have a series of guest judges, including Shania Twain. Idol will name a permanent replacement by the time the show begins in January.

Also guest-judging next month will be Katy Perry, the in-your-face pop rock artist who famously sang about kissing a girl. According to Virgin Music News, Katy Perry intends to play the role of Simon Cowell by being brutally honest. Katy Perry believes it's important to be truthful, even if it hurts. She talks about how everyone knows that one person who is singing at karaoke bars, that one person who is always out of tune, but nobody has the heart to tell them.

Katy Perry would certainly bring an entertainment factor to American Idol. My question is: do we need yet another Simon Cowell?

There is, of course, Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice). She will also be guest-judging in the audition rounds for American Idol. However, there is the possibility of backlash among fans, as her husband David Beckham drew recent criticisms over an altercation with a fan.

Paula Abdul has said that she decided to quit her role on American Idol because of her "self-respect", rather than money.

The former reality talent judge told TV Guide that she would continue to watch the show despite no longer being part of it.

Abdul said: "I stand on principle where many people stand on money. I'm a hard-working artist. I've lasted in this business for 23 years.

"You can't do that unless you are good at what you do. I believe in myself and you have to have your own self-respect."

She added: "Sometimes decisions are very difficult to make, but I've always believed that at the core I'm a survivor. There's not one thing I've done that I've really set my mind to that I've failed at."

The singer also said that she felt "blessed" to have been part of a programme that made television history.

Just been reading that Bobby Boy had contacted Fox Chicago personally. Fox Chicago TV turned up to interview Shania, but they were told by their own sister company, Fox A1, that there would be NO access to Shania either for an interview or photos.

Don't know what Shania Twain's problem was, but the country crooner sure came across as bitchy while in town the past couple of days as the guest judge for the ''American Idol'' auditions.

Twain not only demanded no one -- including the official ''Idol'' folks -- photograph her, she even insisted the local affiliate for Fox (which airs ''American Idol'') be ''nowhere near her'' when she arrived for the auditions at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, said Fox Chicago entertainment reporter David Viggiano.

Cowell and Jackson both raved about how much they love Chicago -- and are even thinking of getting places here. The famously edgy Simon said Our Town ''somehow reminds me of [his native] England.''

That may be so, but her true fans will defend and support her reasons for not wanting to be photographed, etc. One guy's opinion isn't shared by the majority of us.

I don't think you can put much into anything Bob says,i read his board last week and he was claiming to have all these sources in Canada but he didn't even know she was in Canada until the pictures of Shania and the rings appeared.He is very obsessed with Shania so he may have call.If she isn't doing interviews he may be because 2 questions are going to be asked,are you divorced and are you planning on getting married.If the answers are no im not divorced and yes im planning on getting married,I think she will look silly.

Shania is the farthest thing from a DIVA you could ever find. I've met her and seen her on a few occassions. We have ALL seen photos of her happily posing for photos at airports (her private time) and you only ever see a smile on her face.

Remember, a couple of days ago, the Chicago auditions were supposed to be in a 'secret' place. I'm sure the last thing Shania needed was 500 fans of hers showing up at the 'secret location' of the auditions to add chaos to the mix.

I am looking a 2 photos on this thread, one from a media person, and one from a fan, and Shania gladly posed with them.

The Times writer is either bitter, or just wants to sell papers with a sensational story.

The proof is in the pictures, maybe someone should email him a link to this thread.

I think Shania's avoidance of the media is A.) Because of what she's been through - she really doesn't want to have to answer the questions. and B.) The way MUTT conditioned her to avoid the media. Shania has always been gracious with her fans as evidenced by the new video and letter on her website, as well as the two pics in this thread. It does sound like sour grapes on the part of the "reporter" (and I use the term reporter loosely), because he went there and didn't get to interview her. He was probably told in advance that that would happen, but went anyway.

Yes, but the opinions of Shania message board participants aren't shared by the majority of the readers of the Chicago Sun Times, either. The average Sun Times reader is going to read this article, and walk away with the idea that Shania is a diva.

I don't believe the diva claims, but alot of Chicago Sun Times readers will. And that's a huge number. The number of Shania message board particpants is next to nothing compared to this.

They were both on Twitter - how do you know one is media person and one is a fan or participant in the audition - by their Twitter comments? I am not a Twitter so I am not really aware of what is there.
