RE: Shania was at 25th Anniversary of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Cool! Looks like it's a two-night event.

Backstage At The Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame 25th Anniversary Concert

October 29, 2009 - 5:39 PM | by: Laura Ingle

For the next two nights, Madison Square Garden in New York City will be epicenter of Rock N Roll, in a way that has never happened before.

The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Concert has been described as one of the biggest live music events ever put together -- a show so big, it will take two full nights of jamming to celebrate.   The biggest artists in the industry will tell the story of Rock N Roll through their music, tracing the history of genres through the music of other artists who inspired them.  The shows, will feature Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, U2, Paul Simon, Metallica, Jeff Beck Band, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Friends, Simon and Garfunkel and more.  Each band, has it's own A-List of performers it will invite on stage to perform it's set.  Tonight,  Stevie Wonder, will play tunes with Smokey Robinson, and John Legend.   Another super star lineup for the first night; Crosby, Stills, Nash with Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, B.B. King and Jackson Browne.  Tomorrow, Metallica will perform with Ozzy Osbourne.

The team that put together the 2 day event is also quite impressive.  Joel Peresman, the CEO of the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame pulled in the creative team of actor Tom Hanks, his producing partner Gary Goetzman, singer-songwriter Robbie Robertson, and Academy Award winning-screenwriter Cameron Crowe to produce and film the event for HBO.

So much rock royalty, so little time, it's enough to make your head spin.    Check back in with this Liveshots blog, and On The Scene - you will see behind the scenes photos as only a backstage pass of this kind will bring you.

Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Celebrates 25th Anniversary With Big Names & Big Gigs

rocknroll.jpg

If you live in NYC (or have the money to travel), you are in for a treat come this fall: two wicked cool concerts commemorating the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 25th Anniversary produced by Tom Hanks and Cameron Crowe. You know, cuz they're old and bored!

The roster includes mega acts like U2, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band2.gif, Simon & Garfunkel, Metallica, Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Crosby, Stills Nash & Friends and Eric Clapton, as well as some special guest presenters! Translation: those are all the people they've been able to book thus far and they're really hoping to lure you in at the thought of someone like Madonna or Whitney Houston performing. Likely not gonna happen!

The acts will be divided into two nights of performances on October 29th and 30th.

The show will be broadcast on network television two weeks later.

Check out who is performing what night….after the jump!

Performing on October 29th will be:

Simon & Garfunkel2.gif

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Friends

Stevie Wonder

Performing on October 30th will be:

Billy Joel actually likes Shania alot and loved presenting with her at the CMA in New York in 2005. He made comments in 2005 about how he can't wait to present with Shania the award for EOTY.
I think Billy pretty much loved Shania getting close with him and so would any man.
And Shania must be really good friends with him since she just doesn't do that with anyone. I think it is safe to say that they both were comfortable in that situation.

As for Shania being there. I think she is a special presenter or maybe she is doing a duet with one of her idols, Stevie Wonder who is there.

In one article it said that acts from the iconic acts from the 60's, 70's, and 80's are being matched up with artists that influenced them.
So maybe Shania is going to be matched up with Stevie Wonder for a duet.
Stevie wonder also said in his website that he loves Shania's voice in 2003.
Either way she didn't go down there just to watch.
She is either a presenter or she decided to get off her butt and actually perform and do what she hasn't done in ages.

Not all men would want Shania to touch them. Some men can resist a good-looking woman. Despite society acting like all men are drooling idiots. A man who is in a relationship would feel uncomfortable with Shania or any woman hugging them and grabbing them. Not all men would be thrilled.

And like I said, he does not look into the whole embrace like she does. A picture paints a thousand words.

I am HOPING she performs! That would be awesome!

Yeah but there is one more day today.
But you are right I doubt she performed.
They listed on one site the celebs who were in the audience and they named Shania,Michael Douglas, Catheine Zeta Jones, Michael j fox and a few other celebs.
So she probably just watched.
I am not surprised by that.
is she even an artist anymore?

Oh please lol!!!
A picture doesn`t tell anything. It is only a caption of second of someone.
Like I said, they are friends and you have no idea who starting talking or hugging who.
You are making a deal out of something that is not there.
How the heck do you know what Billy Joel was thinkingÉ
By his expression back in 2005 he loved Shania so I  highly doubt he didn`t want to be touched by Shania.

I want to know who designed the jacket too. It has a brass plate on the front that looks like Dolce & Gabbana, but I looked up D&G and have come up empty so far.

She also was photographed wearing the same 'skull' image on a black hoodie when she was in a Toronto airport last summer. Maybe it is a message to Mutt? Her new look?

Not sure. We need HQ photos!!!

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame turns 25

The attendance: 19,500-plus.

All hail breaks loose: "Hail, hail rock 'n' roll," said the evening's host Tom Hanks, "which sprang from dashboard radios, nickel-a-song jukeboxes and deep-grooved 45s." With that, rock pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis returned to open the show again, this time with Great Balls of Fire. Just like Thursday, he pounded out a faithful version, but unlike that subdued turn, he playfully picked up the piano stool and tossed it down as he left the stage.

What's it to you? If Thursday's show was mostly about rock's sweet soul, folk and country roots, with a hefty dose of New York strut, Friday's acts offered a harder, rebellious edge, leavened by Aretha Franklin's gospel-drenched empowerment anthems and U2's expansive world view.

Queen Aretha: Franklin, a bit unfortunately, was introduced by film clips that showed her in her stage-stomping '60s heyday. This time, she was slowly escorted to center stage and maintained a more majestic presence. Dressed in a bright red gown, black fur-trimmed coat and white pearls, she belted faithful versions of Baby I Love You and Don't Play That Song (in memory of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, who signed her to the label). The crowd was flummoxed when she teased to Respect but instead sang a gospel-tinged number (Make Them Hear You) from the musical Ragtime.

Potent pairings: Momentum resumed when Annie Lennox came on to duet on Chain of Fools, then flagged again when Aretha did a showbizzy version of New York, New York— great song but wrong occasion, perhaps. The crowd loved it, though, especially when she said afterward that she was "thinking seriously" about moving here from Detroit. Lenny Kravitz injected needed energy by singing Think in a punchy voice that was clearly influenced by his stage partner. At the end, he escorted her offstage, Aretha sashaying all the way.

Worth the wait: Finally, Respect was cemented with the encore. That once-in-a-lifetime voice filled the Garden, ably supported by nearly 20 backing musicians, including Franklin's son Teddy on guitar, and the crowd gave the diva her due.

Got your back: Jeff Beck had been scheduled to appear as a guest with Eric Clapton but took over the headlining slot when Slowhand was sidelined by gallstone surgery. Beck, a two-time inductee (solo and with The Yardbirds), showed he's one of rock's most proficient, tasteful and appropriately showy guitarists — an axeman's axeman — as he led a quartet in a blistering set of jazz- and blues-tinged instrumentals, highlighted by Drown in My Own Tears.

Just dropped in: Sting came on to lend strong vocals to People Get Ready and nicely played off of Beck's piercing guitar accents. Blues veteran Buddy Guy traded him lick for lick on Let Me Love You. And ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons (he flew in from England, where the band is touring) croaked Rough Boy and cranked out complementary riffs to Beck's lead. The two then exploded into Foxy Lady, a Manhattan bedrock-shaking experience played out under a giant photo of Jimi Hendrix. As the image switched to late-period Beatles, Beck led the quartet in an instrumental eruption on A Day in the Life.

Ecstatica: You can't kill or even dent heavy metal, as Metallica has proven repeatedly for three decades. The band's thrashing force-of-nature onslaught, an approach that was rather grudgingly recognized with its induction into the hall this year, was on full display Friday. With amps cranked to 11 or more, Metallica howitzered through hits such as For Whom the Bell Tolls and One, displaying a tight professional attack. Bob Seger's Turn the Page— an incredibly smart cover choice — took on extra power in the band's hands.

A shared spotlight: "We're a tight little unit that doesn't let too many people in," said lead singer James Hetfield. "But after jamming with these people, it now makes sense," he added, as punk godfather Lou Reed took the stage for his classic New York street-scene Sweet Jane. Even better was Velvet Underground's nuclear White Light/White Heat. No home sound system can ever do it justice, so it was historically cathartic to hear it detonated in an arena.

Enchanted with Ozzy: Somehow, Ozzy Osbourne, looking reasonably fit, managed a righteous follow-up of his own, fronting Metallica for Black Sabbath warhorses Paranoid and Iron Man. After hugging the band, he left to one of the weekend's loudest ovations. One had to pity Kinks leader Ray Davies for following that one-two punch, but his primal-riffed You Really Got Me, a proto-metal influence, nearly held its own. So did the British Invasion standard All Day and All of the Night. If his wit and melodic gifts rub off on his stagemates, everyone wins.

Uh-O: Maybe the act to pity was U2, reigning masters of the universe, which had to follow Metallica's dead-on, pretense-free, no-frills, crowd-satiating assault. What, Bono worry? The bigger the stage and circumstances, the brighter the band. Vertigo, the opener, was plagued by brief sound problems but still rocked madly (aided weirdly by a teleprompter, which noted the "yeah, yeah, yeahs"). Magnificent, from the band's latest No Line on the Horizon album, introduced themes of transcendent love back into the night and soul of the show.

Two nights to remember: The rockers tied the two nights together by bringing out Thursday closer Bruce Springsteen, and Patti Smith to sing her Because the Night. Springsteen covered the song long ago, but nothing could top the composer taking her own stand with Bono and the Boss at her side.

An excellent alternate version: Presumably because of a glitch in the recording for HBO, which airs the concerts Nov. 29, the band sang the song again with even better results, and Bruce's lead guitar stung harder.

Poets and punks: Bono paid tribute to "the saints, the heretics, the poets and punks that now make up our Hall of Fame" and equated rock with liberation. That prompted Springsteen to chime in: "Now let's have fun with it." That led into I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, a particularly soulful version aided by Springsteen pianist Roy Bittan.

Funked up: The Edge shone on a funky version of Mysterious Ways, which turned smoothly into the Black Eyed Peas' Where Is the Love as the Peas strode onstage to take charge. A snippet of U2's One brought the inventive medley to a close.

At last: The long rumored appearance by Mick Jagger materialized as the chords to Gimme Shelter pounded out and the head Stone slithered onstage with Fergie. They nailed it as those in the crowd shredded their lungs, perhaps remembering Jagger's famous skirt-losing duet with Tina Turner at Live Aid, but Fergie's black mini stayed put as she nearly stole the show. Jagger stuck around for a stately duet with Bono on U2's Stuck in a Moment.

Positive power: Back on its own, U2 kept the spiritual vibe rising with Beautiful Day, with Bono slipping in a shout-out to the Rock Hall Foundation's Jann Wenner. Fans who attended the previous evening's nearly six-hour marathon were probably taken aback when U2 made Day its last song, ending at 11:45 p.m. But they could go out into the beautiful night comforted by a historic, music-affirming extravaganza. Hail, hail rock 'n' roll.

I don't think so. I went to Holt Renfrew in Canada and they told me it is made by Glamour Campaign, by Fred Naggar, who used to be a consultant in Rock & Replublic. See here for a fashion show. Lots of jackets with crystal skulls at back.

Sorry Angie, but the evidence weighs in 'Glamour Campaign's favour. Did you look at the fashion show. Also, Shania was wearing a Glamour Campaign 'hoodie' with the similar skull design in Toronto's airport last summer. I would be happy for you to provide photos of the exact grey, belted jacket with skull on the back from P. Plein if you are so sure.

It doesn't really matter who made the jacket, Shania probably wouldn't be able to name the designer if she was asked that question, she's not a fashion buff.

Shania Twain exclaiming to Billy Joel backstage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary on Thursday night: "You're divorced — well, so am I!"

If this is true, is this the first confirmation we've had that Shania is actually divorced? Many fans have figured that she's been divorced for awhile now, but there have been other fans who insist that she's not, for whatever reason.

Thanks for posting this. Of course Mutt and Shania are divorced....like there was any doubt. Divorce records in Switzerland are ultra-private. And if Shania's travelogue video was not the most OVER the TOP evidence of how she has moved on from Mutt, I don't know what is. And Shania and Fred are wearing matching rings.

Happy for Shania, she herself has indicated that she has been through a lot of pain, and now she is coming out of her shell. It is so great to see her back in the public eye. Hopefully she will perform a one-off song sometime soon, maybe a collaboration would be the best way to come back singing. Can't wait to see her as a Torch Relay Bearer on January 1st!

HA! After that statement from Shania and her pics with Billy........I am so sensing a crush on her end!

I sure hope it does not go anywhere; with Billy's track record with women.

It doesn't really matter who made the jacket, Shania probably wouldn't be able to name the designer if she was asked that question, she's not a fashion buff.

For not being a "fashion buff" she sure loves fashion though! lol
It probably is that she does not care about the label; but with the time she puts into looking good and how exact and right on her outfits always are; she surely loves fashion and dressing up and looking good.

She always says that she does not care, but for not caring; she never looks sloppy or anything like that. She is always the best dressed or dressed the most sexy; and that takes major effort!

Now that Shania is divorced, she seems more happier to go to public events and has good cause to celebrate having been trapped in a marriage that didn't allow her to do and see some of the things she's since been experiencing with Fred.

I am not aware she is divorced - what made you say that?

Supposedly divorced is what I should have said.

Obviously Shania and Mutt are divorced. Shania has way too much class to be going aorund the world with another guy while she is still married. And that quote from the article confirms it.

And she was held back being married to Mutt. They were so different.

It is good to see her happy.

Nor should you expect any. Do you think she's going to issue a press release on the subject?

(and if she did, some people still wouldn't believe it!)

The ancillary evidence is enough to draw a logical conclusion.
