Shania blogs on NYC trip - Official Fan Club

Hello Everyone,

Here are some pics (below) with friends backstage at Madison Square Garden in NYC during last week’s 25th Anniversary Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame concerts.  I'm also sharing my favorite moments of the whole event.

I was moved to tears by Bonnie Raitt's performance of "Love Has No Pride".  I was sobbing in the audience (which isn't like me as I'm usually able to choke visible tears back when in public), as this is a song from my early childhood and it ripped at my heart to hear her soulful voice cry it out so painfully.  I am a HUGE fan of Bonnie and have spent many hours listening to her CDs over the years. She is one of my absolute fave's and so is that song.  I hadn't heard it in over 20 years so it caught me by surprise all around.  I wasn't expecting her to do it and certainly wasn't ready for it to hit me so emotionally.  Not sure if I have more to cry about now or if I'm just becoming more of a sap these days!  Probably a bit of both.  It was a highlight meeting her backstage for the first time.  She was humble and kind.

Simon and Garfunkle blended like I'd hoped they would and were a team I never thought I'd get the chance to see live.  It was an honor to witness these two geniuses together on the same stage.

Other highlights from the performances of those two nights for me personally were Stevie Wonder's segment as he sang like an absolute angel.  He glides in, out and around every note like he's on a honey roller coaster.  He never ceases to amaze me after all the years I've been admiring his voice. It's incredibly moving to watch him perform and hear him sing.  A duet between "The Boss" and John Fogerty doing a rendition of Roy Orbison's “Oh, Pretty Woman” made me jump up out of my seat.  Their voices blended so amazingly well together - a must with Orbison songs, and they nailed it. Fantastic! I wanted to hear it again.

Another biggie for me was Metallica.  Saying they are a powerful wall of sound is an understatement.  There are only four of them in the band but sound like double. Their guitars ripped, the drums kicked and punched holes in our chests and the bass pounded equal punches, vibrating the whole place.  We loved it!  Especially when they brought out Ozzy. They were perfect together.  Watching Ozzy from start to finish was like being in a time warp.  How could he look so much the same after all these years and still even sound exactly the same?  He delivered in classic Ozzy style, only without the gore.  Talk about "taking me back!"

Both nights were amazing and as my friend put it, was like “the Olympics of Rock 'n Roll”, but nothing could have been better than seeing the master of showmanship himself, Mick Jagger, walk out on the stage to cap off the whole experience.  He strutted out at the end of U2's segment with his giant presence commanding every single ear and eye in the house.  I thought, “Phew, there is a BIG man in that little body!”  He can't weigh any more than I do. I had never seen him live, and it was a serious treat for me.  He just simply "rocked".

After the show backstage, as Mick was walking by in the hall, a friend said to me, "Shania, aren't you going to stop him and say hi?"  I said, "No, I don't need to meet him to admire him.  I don't want to bother him, besides, I'm happy just having seen him perform.  My friend replied, "Ya, but this is Mick."  I chuckled and told him he was such a groupie.  He smiled admittingly and before we knew it, Mick was gone anyway.

Pic below, I'm with my tour manager and good friend from the "COME ON OVER" tour, George Travis.  He's Bruce Springsteen's long-time tour manager and was there with him that night.  It was great catching up and reminiscing about our time on the road together.

The whole night I was on the "other side" of the fence, so to speak, taking in the music and the backstage experience like a true fan would.  It's nice to step outside of my "artist" self and just enjoy and admire what everyone else is doing for a change.  I love being an artist, but it's also great to have the pressure off and allow myself to be the observer instead of the observed.  Knowing so many of the people backstage from crew to performers, agents, security, etc., I felt at home, but nothing was expected of me other than to be myself, hang, catch-up with friends and have a laugh.  Very good for the soul and super motivation to go home and keep writing music.

Getting some love from another one of my favorite singer/songwriters, Billy Joel.

In the backstage blur, in full action chatting with Bonnie Raitt.

Crossing a couple of the members from the group, THE BLACK EYED PEAS in the halls on the way out after night #2.  Saw them live at the Montreux Jazz Festival last year but never had the chance to meet them that night.  Cool group!

Strolling the streets of NYC before catching the plane back to Switzerland, stopping to enjoy the colors of Times Square.

I feel like such a tourist and loving it.  Yah!  Gotta come here more often.

I am glad that she seems so happy. But sad that it seems like she has no desire to ever be an artist again. Oh, well. She gave us great music for a moment in time :)

Yeah, I know she threw that last sentence in there; but honestly I don't expect any new music from her. I think she feels like she has to throw something out there about her "plans".

I would be very suprised if we see new music from her.

So glad Shania is blogging, writing to her fans and sharing photos.
Her quote ' Very good for the soul and SUPER motivation to go home and KEEP writing MUSIC' - good news for us.

Yes, it is taking a long time, but Shania herself has written to her fans to explain that she has gone through a lot, and the music, in time will come.

Just happy to hear from her and SEE that she is so happy!

Whoo hoooo!

If Shania never released another album, I wouldn't blame her, seeing the sad state of the music industry. No one sells tens of millions of albums anymore.

Shania can do what she want. She owes me nothing. Whining about her lack of music will get you nowhere.

Go Shania!

Shania blogs on NYC trip - Official Fan Club

She and her blogs have become a complete joke.
I really was holding out hope that she had one bit of artist in her.
She is not one bit an artist and not the person I thought she was.
In fact she has not had one bit of success without Mutt Lange and it seems she can't and won't do it without him.
I find it shameful how she now blogs when she has sit on her butt for almost a decade.
The reason she blogs is because she has nothing and wont' have anything to offer musicwise.
Writing music? lol!!!
She can write all she wants about whatever she wants. she isn't fooling anyone.
Not only can't she write songs on her own it seems but she has no self esteem for anything regarding music.
Sorry folks, Kevy just telling it like it is.
Shania is a shame to her fans and only those with the same low selfesteem will support her now and believe what she says.
I have friends who have had cancer and have not much money and do more in a year than Shania has in 8 years.
It makes may real sad to think Shania has sunk so low and become a joke.
Don't bash me for my opinion but she has pulled the wool over everyones eyes for years.

Well, I'm sure this is the last we'll be seeing of you then, right Kevy? Since you consider Shania and her blogs a complete joke and you have declared her not one bit of an artist.

Bye bye. Don't let the door hit you on the @ss on your way out.

Don't bother replying. Really. We are here for Shania. Period.

buh bye.

If you read what I said. I said she has become a complete joke with her blogs.
At one time she was a vibrant person who I thought loved music.
I find it insulting how she has wasted all this time feelings sorry for herself when I know people with real problems and they do what they love.
How can Shania even be considered an artist? I gave her much credit when people were saying Mutt Lange made her. I defended Shania and said no.
But now it is quite obvious Mutt Lange was the genius and the one who motivated the great music. Shania has not had one bit of success without the great Mutt Lange. Because of Mutt she has had the great success, fortune to do what she wants which is nothing.
I thought they were a great team but now maybe it was 90% Mutt and 10% Shania.
HOw can someone call themself an artist and make exuses for year for not making music.
Long before the split she was already making excuses why she would take a big break and permanent sabbatical. Heck she didn't even want to make the UP album because of 911 she said but Mutt convinced her that music will make people happy.
If it were up to her she would of only made one album and then lived off it for the rest of her life.
How can anyone seriously call her an artist and how can anyone believe what she says anymore.

Every blog of hers that mentions music ends up saying nothing more than "I'm still writing music". It does sound like she's got a serious case of writer's block, at the very least. And that's being kind.

Either one of two things. Either she really has no talent and can't write any songs after all this time or she is not being honest with the fans and not really seriously writing songs.
I tend to believe she has some songwriting talent so I think she is just has to add something to give the fans a bone by misleading them and saying she is writing music.
I  highly doubt she is too serious about it.
But she has also never written a successful song by herself so she might need mutt Lange again.

Kevy is a complete joke, if he really has such a negative attitude towards Shania over what she chooses to communicate with her fans, then why does he bother dropping by Tommy's site and/or this forum and basically give her the time of day.

He keeps banging on about her being unable to write songs etc, and just because Shania has her health and riches, she is a human being with feelings. Please remember this is a woman who was betrayed by her husband and close friend, and has been through a nasty divorce.  Her confidence has been knocked as a result, so that's going to affect her approach to music.

^ ^ ^ You are right, he is a complete joke, and he is pathetic. He only posts here to get a rise out of people. He is desperate for attention. He can't resist coming back here again and again. He is no fan.

He sits 'hunchbacked' over his computer keyboard while Shania is BUSY with a child to raise, family and friends to see, a new relationship to explore and is working in completely new territory with song writing. And, she travels constantly and has a life. He couldn't possibly understand, let alone 'relate' to such a lifestyle.

Shania is probably fending off the advances of tons of co-writers and producers at this time in her life and is taking things slowly....all the while enjoying champagne lunches on glaciers. And riding camels in Egypt. ha! I can't blame her after what she's beenput through.

Thats okay you can attack me but what I say is the truth.
So instead of attacking me maybe take a look at how Shania has played up this victim act for so long.
And please don't insult people with real problems like cancer and being beaten to Shania's situation where millions go through everyday.
like divorce. Not to mention she got over her little problem pretty quick with a new lover.
shania is fooling you all and has fooled me too for years. She is not an artist and has no interest in being one and her actions prove that.
I wish I was wrong but Shania Twain is not the person or artist I thought she was years ago.
Without Mutt Lange she would still be playing for tips at a resort.
Maybe she should get off her butt and thank the lord she even met Mutt Lange and thank the lord she has any fans left and actually be an artist if that is what she is.

lol!!! YOu are probably on a computer more than me
I state the facts and have worked harder in one year than Shania has in 8 years.
YOur comments are insulting to people who really work and are out there doing their passion.
Your comments are laughable because you make excuses blindly for her and believe everything she says.
She doesn't even care you exist.
If you don't like my opinion then don't read it but don't make up lies about me because you don't have a clue about my lifestyle and I won't brag about it.

Now this is all I have to say on this thread unless someone wants to argue with me and call me names.
This is my opinion and I won't say another word unless challenged.
So lets move on and others can give their opinion without addressing me.

She really does look cute!

And saying that she will probably not produce any new music is not whining; it is called stating an opinion.

I like her music, but there are so many other artists that I like and love as well. It does not matter either way. It is called an observation.

And I do agree that singers do not live in the "real world" of real jobs and real pressure. There are tons and tons of women whose husbands cheated on them and get divorced and have to work 60 hours a week at cr*ppy jobs. Shania went through cr*p the past few years, but she still lives in luxery and has a blessed life!

Not too many of us could and ever will have the chance at 44 to do nothing but travel the world ALL SUMMER with our boyfriends.

She is VERY lucky.

Shania Twain is still writing well that is good. We have to relaize if there is a album going to come out later next year I would hope she is going to be recording these songs sometime soon because from what she is writing we might not get nothing until 2011 which is sad because it is a long wait but lets hope there is a announcement on her next blog because if not we are gonna have to wait and see what happens. God I miss her so much would only hope she does something soon this women is so good at what she does and I think the next album will set records and have real big hits. So Taylor swift and Carrie Underwood watch out because she will knock you off the charts. And as for Taylor Swift beating Shania record after having spent more than 157 weeks on the chart well that is not surprise because there has not been any new music from Shania in ages lets hope her next album will stay on the charts and beat that record again lol

I honestly find it to be the opposite. I think that most New Yorkers are very friendly when needed; and that is the point; when needed. They don't meddle in other people's business like other parts of the country. You can be whatever you want in NYC and nobody cares.

When I am in the south it takes 3 hours to get through a check-out line; all the TALKING! lol New Yorkers are not like that.

I’m glad she wrote something new but I agree with Kevy at some point. If she doesn’t release a new album next year it will be ridiculous. And especially she made me laugh with this:
It's nice to step outside of my "artist" self and just enjoy and admire what everyone else is doing for a change. I love being an artist, but it's also great to have the pressure off and allow myself to be the observer instead of the observed.
She writes as if she stepped out her “artist self” a day before not 5 years ago! She’s been observer, not observed, for years! She laughs at us or what? I hope she will write something more specific about the music. I want to know when we should expect the release because it’s time. It’s been too long. She promised to write in 2005, in 2007, last year and 2009 came and she says again that she’s not ready. When will she be ready then?

You have to realize Eilleen has no need to rush things along. With the breakup the music connection also broke up and she is adrift without oars now it appears.

My crystal ball says if you ignore her she will surprise us sooner or later.

Who is the friend that she mentions was with her when she was back stage at this show? I enjoyed reading her review of the night. She probably attended to be inspired , to remake connections in the music world, as well as for personal enjoyment. If and when she is ready to come back, I feel she will be well worth the wait.

Shania said it was a highlight meeting Bonnie Raitt backstage for the first time.  But it must have slipped her mind that the two of them met before at the 1999 Grammys (Shania wore a white dress).
