O'Connell Racing Enters 2014 Great Battle Maine to Florida
Featuring Shania Kids Can
HOLLYWOOD, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 19, 2014) - O'Connell Racing (OConnellRacing.com), a professional motorsports company based in Southern California, announced today that the team with the father-son driver combination of Gus O'Connell and Kevin O'Connell will compete in the 2014 Hemmings Motor News Great Race that will take place over a week long period starting in downtown Ogunquit, Maine and ending in The Villages, Florida.
The Great Race, established in 1908 with an inaugural race from New York to Paris requires entrants to only race classic, vintage or antique vehicles. The race is considered to be an automotive competition based on precision driving and navigational skills with events that are timed, with controlled speeds and endurance criteria. The 2014 race will include stops in states such as New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Virginia, North and South Carolina and Georgia with the finish in Florida.
Kevin O'Connell commented, "This is a new type of racing for us and our #59 entry will campaign an all original 1959 Chevrolet Apache Fleetside pick-up truck. My father, family friends Bill Kohlmeyer and Chris Bensabat are going to start the event in Maine, with family members Fred and Denny Cassin providing race support and logistics. I intend to meet up with the team somewhere along the line and drive for a stint or two after racing in the Gardner Denver 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Road America with Rick Ware Racing."
Shania Twain's charity Shania Kids Can has been selected as the primary effort for the entire month of June with O'Connell Racing and Rick Ware Racing dedicating entire events in NASCAR, the IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo Racing Series and the Great Race to the charity.
About O'Connell Racing:

About Shania Kids Can:
Shania Kids Can is a program designed for kids at primary school level who are having personal problems at home. By helping less fortunate children reach their personal best in their daily lives at primary school age, this may likely prevent the less positive alternative that too many children of lost potential face later in life... of becoming statistics that burden society rather than contributing to it.

SKC currently has two programs operating in Ontario, Canada, one operating in Nevada, United States and one in Alberta, Canada. More schools opening soon.
Irwin Memorial Public School - Dwight, Ontario
The Irwin Lounge has been operating successfully for the last eight years, providing nutritional support, life skills training, and social skills assistance to children between grades 1 and 8. Once located in a portable building outside of the school, the Lounge has recently been re-located to its new home within the school itself. Children that participate in the Irwin Lounge have the opportunity to participate in many different field trips, and enjoy the different guest speakers that come into the lounge. A qualified staff person that is always available to the students as a neutral/safe person that they can always go to operates the Irwin Lounge, to discuss any issues that life presents them.
Schumacher Public School - Timmins, Ontario
Schumacher Public School in Timmins, Ontario is the second program funded through Shania Kids Can. The Clubhouse operates every day of the week. Teachers, and school administration identify children involved in the program as students needing extra assistance with social skill development, life skills, and nutritional support. The Clubhouse is located in a classroom on the lower level of the school and is equipped with many different games to encourage academic development, social interaction, and life skills training. The students also learn how to prepare nutritious snacks. The Clubhouse is run by a qualified staff person that is always available to the students as a neutral/safe person they can go to with any issues that life may present them with.
Tom Williams Elementary School - Las Vegas, Nevada
The Tom Williams Elementary School is a program funded through Shania Kids Can, opened as of Fall 2013. Kids receive academic, extra-curricular, therapeutic and nutritional support from the SKC Clubhouse which is located on the second floor of the school.
Catherine Nichols Gunn School - Calgary, Alberta

Singer Shania Twain hugs Josephine Okeke after playing basketball during a visit to Kids Cafe, a national program of America's Second Harvest, one of the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief charities, in July, 2003. Twain started singing because her parents were poor, and sometimes ate mustard sandwiches at school.
#MusicMonday - Back in 1996, The empowering balled "God Bless The Child" was released to help children all around the world. What you may not know, is that there are multiple versions of the song! The version from "The Woman In Me" had verses added to it before being released to radio and stores as a commercial single. There were two versions of that song, with Banjo and without. Here's the one without Banjo, which you may not have heard before.
#ThrowbackThursday #TBT During the Still The One concerts in Las Vegas, We gathered with fans around the campfire on stage, had fun, and talked about Shania Kids Can. Another great way to have fun and keep warm is to sing songs by the fire.
