(NEW YORK) – September 22, 2010. Superstar Shania Twain has signed an agreement with Atria Books, an imprint of Simon and Schuster, to publish her autobiography, it was announced today by Judith Curr, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Atria Books and Washington Square Press. Curr acquired world rights from Robert B. Barnett of Williams & Connolly LLP and Sarah Durand, Senior Editor, will edit. Atria plans to publish the book in spring 2011.
In this yet to be titled autobiography, Shania Twain shares her challenging and sometimes shockingly painful upbringing in rural Ontario, the tragic death of her mother and stepfather, her "against all odds" rise to fame in a foreign entertainment industry, the hurdles she faced as a female outsider in the male-dominated world of country music and the recent struggles in her personal life.
“When I read Shania’s manuscript, it amazed me how rich, clear, unfiltered and honest she was,” said Judith Curr. “There is a depth that comes through in her writing. The book will be a help and inspiration to many and those who think they know her from her music will be surprised at the raw and personal place she writes from.”
"There have been moments in my life I was concerned by the reality that tomorrow would never come. Recently I experienced one of those moments to an intensity that brought on a sudden urgency to document my life before I ran out of time, before I had the opportunity to share an honest and complete account of my life, in my own words. There are times in your life that are meant for reflection, and this was one of them. I began writing this book with a sincere respect for the past, present and future as something never to be taken for granted," said Twain. Shania Twain rose to fame in the early 1990s with her debut album Shania Twain(1993), and achieved worldwide success with her 1997 album Come On Over, which became the best-selling album of all time by a female musician, and the best selling country album of all time. A five-time Grammy Award winner, Twain has also achieved major success as a songwriter, winning 27 BMI Songwriter awards. Despite the fact Twain has released very few albums, she has sold over 75 million albums worldwide to date, including 48 million in the U.S. Her docu-series on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network will debut in the spring. This is her first book.

Recently I experienced one of those moments to an intensity that brought on a sudden urgency to document my life before I ran out of time, before I had the opportunity to share an honest and complete account of my life, in my own words," said Twain, 45, whose marriage famously fell apart in 2008 after her husband had an affair with one of her best friends.
"There are times in your life that are meant for reflection, and this was one of them," she added. "I began writing this book with a sincere respect for the past, present and future as something never to be taken for granted."
In the memoir, set to be published by Atria Books next spring, Twain writes about her childhood in rural Ontario, the death of her mother and stepfather, her rise in Nashville – and the heartbreak over the breakup of her marriage. She has since found love again with Frédéric Thiébaud, the ex-husband of the "other woman."
"The book will be a help and inspiration to many," said publisher Judith Curr, "and those who think they know her from her music will be surprised at the raw and personal place she writes from."
The country star also has a documentary series airing on the Oprah Winfrey Network next year.
Country singer Shania Twain to write autobiography
NEW YORK (Associated Press) – Shania (shuh-NY'-uh) Twain is ready to talk about her recent divorce — and she'll do it in her autobiography.
Of course, Twain will discuss much more than her recent split with music producer Robert "Mutt" Lange. The country superstar announced Wednesday that her book will talk about her difficult childhood, including the death of her mother. She'll also chart her rise to become one of the top-sellers in music.
Twain says recent struggles created a "sudden urgency to document my life before I ran out of time."
The Grammy winner shot to fame in the 1990s with hits like "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" She had spent the past few years out of the spotlight.
She's due to have her own show on Oprah Winfrey's new OWN network.
Twain's book will be published by Atria (ay-TREE'-uh) Books.
According to the press release, Shania's T.V. show isn't airing until the Spring. So we can expect a book, T.V. show and mostly likely a new album as well in the Spring. That means the lead single would be coming out in January or February.

Just in: Here's a book y'all are going to want to read. Shania Twain has signed an agreement with Atria Books, an imprint of Simon and Schuster, to publish her autobiography. The yet-to-be-titled tell-all will be published in spring 2011.
Shania will chronicle her "challenging and sometimes shockingly painful upbringing" in rural Ontario, the "tragic death" of her mother and stepfather, her "against all odds" rise to fame and the recent breakup of her marriage.
"There have been moments in my life I was concerned by the reality that tomorrow would never come," she says in a release. Are they sure 75 million worldwide is correct or could it be a typo? I don't see how sales could jump 10 million worldwide with the U.S. sales staying the same.

When do you surmise we may be told officially about the new music? And via what source?
Shania Twain became a superstar by writing and singing her own songs. Now she’s likely to become an inspiration by writing her life story.
Shania has signed a deal with Atria Books, affiliated with Simon and Schuster, to publish her autobiography in the spring. She writes about her difficult upbringing in rural Ontario, the deaths of her mother and stepfather, the obstacles she faced during her rise in country music and, according to a press release, “the recent struggles in her personal life.” That suggests that she will provide an account of her healing process after divorcing from songwriter-producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange, with whom she wrote her biggest hits, including “Any Man Of Mine,” “You’re Still The One,” “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” and “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?”
“When I read Shania’s manuscript, it amazed me how rich, clear, unfiltered and honest she was,” Atria publisher Judith Curr says. “There is a depth that comes through in her writing. The book will be a help and inspiration to many, and those who think they know her from her music will be surprised at the raw and personal place she writes from.”
“There have been moments in my life I was concerned by the reality that tomorrow would never come,” Shania observes. “Recently I experienced one of those moments to an intensity that brought on a sudden urgency to document my life before I ran out of time, before I had the opportunity to share an honest and complete account of my life, in my own words. There are times in your life that are meant for reflection, and this was one of them. I began writing this book with a sincere respect for the past, present and future as something never to be taken for granted.”
There is no title yet for the book. In the meantime, 2011 is shaping up to be a big year for Shania. In addition to the autobiography, she’s also slated to have her own docu-series, previously referred to as “Why Not? With Shania Twain,” on OWN:The Oprah Winfrey Network.
According to the press release, Shania's T.V. show isn't airing until the Spring. So we can expect a book, T.V. show and mostly likely a new album as well in the Spring. That means the lead single would be coming out in January or February.

If a new album is in fact coming out in the Spring, I'd assume we'll hear something by January. As far as a source, who knows. Possibly her official website now that Shania is more "in touch" with Mad Dancer than she was with MusicToday.

Let's put it this way about new music. It's next year or never! Shania will probably tour again but I doubt it will be as long and cover the world like her UP! tour. I have no idea what she was talking about when she said she plans on playing for the disadvantaged.

Shania Twain will publish her autobiography in spring 2011 through Atria Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. The book has not yet been titled. Twain will write about her upbringing in rural Ontario, the death of her mother and stepfather, her music career and "recent struggles in her personal life," according to a press release. Twain's divorce from songwriter-record producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange was finalized in June. This is her first book. As previously announced, a documentary series about her life will air on the Oprah Winfrey Network in the spring. "There have been moments in my life I was concerned by the reality that tomorrow would never come," Twain said. "Recently, I experienced one of those moments to an intensity that brought on a sudden urgency to document my life before I ran out of time, before I had the opportunity to share an honest and complete account of my life, in my own words. There are times in your life that are meant for reflection, and this was one of them. I began writing this book with a sincere respect for the past, present and future as something never to be taken for granted."
The Still The One singer is planning to reveal everything about her incredible life including details of the affair her husband Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange had with her friend Marie Anne Thiebaud which ultimately ended their 14-year marriage in May 2008.
“There have been moments in my life I was concerned by the reality that tomorrow would never come,” Shania said.
“Recently I experienced one of those moments to an intensity that brought on a sudden urgency to document my life before I ran out of time, before I had the opportunity to share an honest and complete account of my life, in my own words.
“There are times in your life that are meant for reflection, and this was one of them. I began writing this book with a sincere respect for the past, present and future as something never to be taken for granted.”
Shania — who is currently dating Marie-Anne’s former husband Frederic Thiebaud — will also write about her childhood in Canada and her stratospheric rise to fame as a country singer.
Judith Curr, of publishers Atria Books, revealed 45-year-old Shania is hoping to inspire people with her writing.
“The book will be a help and inspiration to many, and those who think they know her from her music will be surprised at the raw and personal place she writes from,” she said.
I am SOOOO excited to hear Shania is writing her autobiography.
I have always felt her 'rags to riches' story was fascinating. She seemed 'silenced' & isolated during her time with Mutt. I can't wait to hear HER side of the story. I also can't wait for more photos!

Five-time Grammy Award winner Shania Twain will release a memoir in 2011 in which she reveals her struggles to build a career in country music and her difficult upbringing, publishers said on Wednesday.
The country pop star, whose personal life has been the subject of tabloid scrutiny since her 2008 split with music producer Robert Mutt Lange, will release the autobiography in the first half of 2011, according to publisher Simon & Schuster.
The Canadian singer and songwriter will discuss a range of topics, including breaking into what she calls a male-dominated country music industry and the tragic 1987 death of her parents in a car accident which left her in charge of three younger siblings.
Twain, 45, said in a statement she felt an urgency to share her story before she ran out of time and described the book as "an honest and complete account of my life, in my own words."
"There have been moments in my life I was concerned by the reality that tomorrow would never come. Recently I experienced one of those moments to an intensity that brought on a sudden urgency to document my life before I ran out of time," she said.
Twain has not released a studio album since 2002, but has made TV appearances, including a stint as a guest judge on top-rated singing contest "American Idol."
The yet to be titled autobiography will be published by Atria Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
Twain is set to star in her a reality series on Oprah Winfrey's OWN network, also debuting in 2011.

I think her wording in the press release is kind of weird. Tomorrow would never come? ..... Before I ran out of time?

It will be interesting to see if everyone's story matches up. Didn't Mutt say that the "affair" was NOT the reason for the split/divorce? What if Shania comes out in the book and says otherwise? Things may not get sleazy, but they could get ugly.

What does "recently" mean in the context she is using? That to me is a key to what the heck she is referrring to. We only know of the harrowing drive last winter in Canada and possibly the sky dive thing as far as life challenging experiences in her mind perchance. Maybe she considered suicide at some time? Who knows?

Shania was in a dark slump after the split and all sorts of things must have gone through her mind, so who knows why she chose those words.

Shania will have to be cautious as to what is written about Mutt, because of Eja as he's going to grow up hearing things about his father which he might disapprove of. And then there's Fred's daughter Johanna to consider as her mother was alledgedly at the root of their marriage break-up and things might upset her.
I am sure Shania just wants to tell her side of the story, regarding Mutt & AnneMarie. However, Mutt & AnneMarie SHOULD have thought of Johanna & Eja before they had an affair. They could have asked for divorces, then started dating, instead of devastating their families. Remember Shania's blog where she mentioned crying over songs...I am sure she will elaborate.

I am still upset about the wife and husband swapping smell of this whole affair, but mebbe I am just old fashioned..

I always believed her record sales were higher than 65 million. Shania is a big worldwide artist. Her record label will give an update on her record sales sooner or later.

Some family members in Europe showed me the International links, so I have to get back to you on that and I don't know when, because they are so busy.
Interesting:
The inevitable Greatest Hits package arrived in November 2004 with 21 tracks, among them the new single "Party For Two."Come On Over officially hit the 20 million sales mark in America the following year, bringing world-wide sales for the album close to 40 million and her career total to nearly 90 million. That same year she contributed the song "Shoes" to the Desperate Housewives soundtrack album and was named an Officer in the ORDER OF CANADA.
Any news is exciting. She is very busy now and probably back on track. Maybe her son is the age of her brothers when her mother died and her harrowing trip in Canada have made her reflect on her life. If she already showed them a manuscript means she must have been writing this for a while. I can't wait to email Amazon for a copies of both book and new album!!!!!!
I saw this on yahoo, I must be the only one not excited about it. If this is some kind of plan to dish the dirt 2 years after everything had settled I must say I dont like this new approach Shania is taking. Not only is she going against her principles that made me respect her but she is appears to be selling her sob stories and building her profile based on them. I am always a defender of Shania but I just do not agree with this plan to bear all, not to think what it will do to the children. I hope she has not turned into a bitter person, she has a new life and an enjoyable one, a good man by her side who seems to have dropped everything to go everywhere with her, I am not sure what this must be like for him for Shania to be unable to move on from her marriage breakup. If she uses this book or her TV show to gain sympathy or get back at Mutt I will lose a lot of respect for her. For many years Shania has told us all that music is her life yet lately all I seem to see is her trying to avoid it. If Shania is truely hurt I do not see how doing such things are going to help her to move on. She is acting like she is damaged goods and is showing very little respect for her very loyal following of fans. I also hope she does not talk about the near car collision as being this moment she refers to, she chose to go skydiving and is clearly a thrill seeker when it suits her. We all have moments where we almost have car accidents, Shania is behaving as if she is the only one and the world is desperate to hear all about it. I dont think she is being very realistic, it feels like she is milking this to stay famous whilst not putting out music, possibly she now realizes she can not make music without Mutt Lange, in the same way her orignial album, she was told she was not a good enough writer to have her own songs on there.

We haven’t seen any new music from Shania Twain for quite a while, but she’s got a new release set for the spring.
Shania is going to put out her autobiography, which deals in depth with the now well-known story of the tragic deaths of her mother and stepfather when she was a teen growing up in Ontario.
“When I read Shania’s manuscript, it amazed me how rich, clear, unfiltered and honest she was,” said Judith Curr, executive VP and publisher of Atria Books, which will put out Shania’s story.
“There is a depth that comes through in her writing. The book will be a help and inspiration to many and those who think they know her from her music will be surprised at the raw and personal place she writes from.”
Shania, in a press release, suggested she’ll be writing about her divorce from veteran rock producer Mutt Lange.
"There have been moments in my life I was concerned by the reality that tomorrow would never come,” she said in a statement.
“Recently I experienced one of those moments to an intensity that brought on a sudden urgency to document my life before I ran out of time, before I had the opportunity to share an honest and complete account of my life, in my own words.”

Thats a little harsh. I think Shania is just doing this because she wants to get everything off her chest. The reason why in Nashville said that her songs were not good enough is because they didn't fit in their kind of country music. Those were the songs that would be in the The Women in Me. Mutt Lange thought they were great and they ended up co-writing everything. We don't even know that Shania is going to work with Mutt or not. Maybe Shania is going produce it herself. She did learn from the best.
I read the statement, it seems to suggest the book will focus on the divorce and hard times. If she goes ahead with this ppl may see it as her getting back at her ex-husband, especially when she never talked about that side of things before. I know her pretty well but ppl will think she is making money from selling her story when she never did that before, she may come across as vengeful or bitter. That is what made Shania stand out from the usual crowd the fact she never did things like this. I have to say I will be extremely disappointed if she now puts her energies into a book and TV show after all the things she has fed her fans through her years. Sincce her and Mutt split all her fans have seen are the kind of things we expect from B-listers and we have not had a word about new music and now it looks very likely she will never record or perform again. I am trying to convince myself otherwise but I cant I'm afraid.

A lot of A-list celebrities have done autobiographies like Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Tiger Woods, Elizabeth Taylor, and Michael Jackson. So, this is nothing new. I think Michael Jackson autobiography wasn't well written, and Tina Turner's book was shocking, because no one had a clue that her then-husband was beating her for so many years. We don't know want to expect in Shania's book or her tv show, we are just going to have to wait until they come out. I read everywhere that with her tv show, her book, and her album will be released around the same time. I hope its true.

What reliable source says a new CD is coming out when the TV show and book are launched?
On the contrary I am reading most everywhere I go on the net that she has probably pitched her music career and just is not owning up to it.
The music industry is dead. Selling millions of albums is not really possible anymore. Stars like J-Lo on American Idol, Rihanna doing Cover Girl ads, Britney and Jessica selling shoes - and Madonna selling a clothing line.
These artists are expanding into other business ventures to keep making money. Elvis' Estate still makes millions each year, and he isn't making any NEW music. But still sells a lot of merchandise with his brand on it.
I would love to hear Shania on some TV special, maybe singing duets with some of her fave singers....who knows? She finally has some freedom back in her life. No hurry, and no pressure from me to tell her what to do.
I am thrilled about the book and the upcoming TV show!

There is a good reason Elvis is not making new music.
