Shania Twain has gotten hitched!

The country superstar and Frédéric Thiébaud got married in Puerto Rico on New Year's Day, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

"They were married at sunset in Rincon, Puerto Rico, in front of 40 of their closest family and friends," says the rep.

The couple, who confirmed their engagement last month, became romantically involved in 2009, finding solace with each other after their spouses allegedly had an affair, breaking up both marriages.

In a letter to fans she posted on her Web site in December, Twain wrote, "In the last two and a half years of adjusting to life after separation and divorce, I needed to lean on others more often than I was accustomed to. These people have been gifts, and I am fortunate to have so many of these beautiful people – friends, family and beloved fans, [whose] support I cherish more deeply with each day that passes."

"Talking about love," she continued, "I am excited to share some personal news with you; I'm in love! Frédéric Nicolas Thiébaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship."

TORONTO — Country superstar Shania Twain had a party for two on New Year's Day as she married her beau in Puerto Rico.

An announcement posted on the singer's website says she and Frederic Thiebaud exchanged vows at sunset in the community of Rincon in front of 40 family members and friends.

The couple confirmed their engagement last month.

The 45-year-old Timmins, Ont., native describes Thiebaud as "a compassionate, understanding friend" who has helped her emerge from 2-1/2 years of emotional turmoil.

Thiebaud is the ex-husband of Twain's former friend Marie-Anne Thiebaud -- the woman who allegedly came between Twain and her first husband, Robert (Mutt) Lange.

Twain and Lange finalized their divorce last year.

In a posting last month, Twain wrote that she has "a renewed faith in love and commitment" and is feeling "optimistic about the future."

"I'm in love! Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship," she wrote in a blog entry last month.

The marriage comes as Twain prepares to launch a TV show on Oprah Winfrey's cable channel, OWN, which was launched on Saturday.

"Why Not? With Shania Twain" will feature the songstress opening up about her heartbreak and reveal how she's moving on.

Twain also plans to release a memoir.

Shania Twain was married earlier today, reports People.com. Shania married her fiance, Frédéric Thiébaud, in Puerto Rico in a small ceremony.

“They were married at sunset in Rincon, Puerto Rico, in front of 40 of their closest family and friends,” says her manager, Jason Owen.

On Dec. 21, Shania announced their engagement on her official website, saying:

2010 is leaving me with a renewed faith in love and commitment. I believe in the right to be loved and the blessing of being able to love in return. Talking about love, I am excited to share some personal news with you; I’m in love! Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship. Fred and I are happy to announce, our ENGAGEMENT!

Shania will not only begin 2011 as a newlywed; she’ll also launch her own show on the new Oprah Network, OWN, called ”Why Not… with Shania Twain.” According to OWN, the show debuts in April.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Country singer Shania Twain and businessman Frederic Thiebaud tied the knot Saturday in a New Year's Day wedding in Puerto Rico.

A message on Twain's website says the couple were wed in Rincon with 40 close family and friends in attendance.

Twain and Thiebaud announced their engagement last month.

Twain first confirmed in August 2009 that she was dating Thiebaud after her divorce from Robert "Mutt" Lange - who allegedly had an affair with Twain's best friend and Thiebaud's wife, Marie-Anne Thiebaud.

The 45-year-old singer from Ontario, Canada, said she reached out to Frederic Thiebaud in the aftermath, writing on her website last year that she had found "a dear friend and true gentleman."

Twain, who has stepped away from the spotlight the last few years, has an autobiography due out in the spring and is scheduled to have her own show on Oprah Winfrey's television network.

Shania Twain didn't exactly have a shotgun wedding yesterday in Puerto Rico ... but it sure was a pistol -- as in what the guards were packing on the beach during the ceremony.

A guy who lives near the mansion where Twain tied the knot tells TMZ he stumbled upon the nuptials at the beach ... and was quickly shooed away by several armed security guards.

In the video you can see an a guard with a pistol tucked in his belt roaming back and forth while the ceremony goes on behind him.

We're told the security was so tight, if you wanted to walk past the wedding... you had to go into the ocean to get around.

Beats getting shot.

Interesting that on Shania's OFFICIAL website, they posted the news of Shania's wedding WITH the text from the People Magazine article announcement, which not only mentions the Puerto Rican wedding, but also mentions the 'alleged' affair.

Just 12 days after announcing their engagement, Shania Twain and Frédéric Thiébaud have married in the Caribbean.

The Canadian country singer, 45, wed the Swiss businessman, 40, in an intimate ceremony on the island of Puerto Rico on New Year's Day.

Their wedding comes two and a half years after they discovered their respective ex-spouses were allegedly having an affair.

Twain was devastated to discover her first husband Robert 'Mutt' Lange got together with the singer's best friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud - ex-wife of Frédéric.

After initially consoling each other in the aftermath of the marriage breakdowns, Twain and Thiébaud's friendship developed into love, with the country star revealing their engagement on December 21.

The star's representative confirmed to People magazine: 'They were married at sunset in Rincon, Puerto Rico, in front of 40 of their closest family and friends.'

When she announced their engagement on her personal website, an ecstatic Twain wrote: 'I am excited to share some personal news with you; I'm in love!

'Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship.'

'Fred and I are happy to announce our engagement!'

Friends of the couple claim they got engaged in Switzerland - where they both live - in October, but kept it secret until last month.

The couple were photographed together in New York two weeks ago, with Twain showing off an $100,000 three-carat, emerald-cut diamond engagement ring.

In the real-life wife-swap story, Lange is still living with Marie-Anne and both couples have a friendly relationship for the sake of their children.

Shania and her ex-husband, who finalised their divorce in June, share custody of their son Eja, nine, and the Thiebauds have a daughter, also nine.

Timmins' singing sweetheart, Shania Twain capped off an eventful year with a wedding on New Year's Day.

She married businessman Frederic Thiebaud in a sunset ceremony in Puerto Rico Saturday.

On her website, she wrote she is starting 2011 with a "renewed faith in love and commitment," feeling "refreshed and optimistic about the future."

In Jan. 2010, the singer visited Timmins, where the carried the torch during the New Years Day Olympic Torch Run.

Following the event, the country crooner donated the torch, as well as the torchbearer outfit she wore to the Shania Twain Centre.

"It was a real great honour to be able to hold it for those few minutes, and it's my pleasure to pass it on to you," Twain told Mayor Tom Laughren during a Jan. 3 press conference.

"It was fantastic coming back to Timmins — I love my hometown and I love the people. The true spirit of Timmins was alive and well, even out in the freezing cold weather."

Later that month, Twain tried her hand at journalism, interviewing Queen Rania of Jordan on the CBC radio program The Current. She also announced the startup of a new charity, Shania Kids Can, to give underprivileged children the chance to take music lessons and play an instrument.

The star made Timmins headlines again in February when The Daily Press learned Shania Kids Can had been quietly operating for five years as a pilot project with the District School Board Ontario Northeast.

"The board abided by Shania's wish that it not be publicized," said director of education Linda Knight. "But we were honoured to be selected for this initiative."

Springtime brought big career news for Twain, who in April announced the launch of a reality show called Why Not? with Shania Twain. Set to air in January 2011 on OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network, the show would "follow Shania as she begins her climb back to the top," following her life after 2008 split from ex-husband Mutt Lange, according to a statement from the network.

"We're very excited about the new show," Shania Twain Centre manager Tracy Hautanen told The Daily Press. "When Shania's in the spotlight, Timmins is in the spotlight as well."

Rumours buzzed about Twain replacing American Idol judge Paula Abdul after a guest appearance April 27.

In August, dozens of her fans from around the world gathered in Timmins for the annual Shania Twain Fan Convention.

In September, Twain inked an agreement with Atria Books, an imprint of Simon and Schuster, to publish her autobiography.

Several Shania sightings were reported in the fall, as the star was rumoured to be in Timmins filming her reality show.

In a strange twist of fate, Twain announced in December her engagement to boyfriend Thiebaud, the ex-husband of her former best friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud, who was accused of having an affair with ex-husband Lange.

"I am excited to share some personal news with you," Twain gushed on her website Dec. 21. "I'm in love! Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship. Fred and I are happy to announce our ENGAGEMENT!"

Reports say Twain and Thiebaud were wed in a small ceremony with about 40 close friends and family members in attendance.

Entertainment Tonight, Access Holywood and Extra may mention the wedding but I don't think they will have pictures or video. TMZ seems to be the only one.

Twain was escorted down the aisle be her nine-year-old son, Eja.

Rolling Stone ran the new photos and mentioned that the photographer hired was Robert Evans, who also took the offical wedding portraits of Brad and Jen Aniston, as well as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

They included a link to Us Magazine's photo guide to Shania and Fred's romance.

It included a photo of them with Eja that I had not seen before.

Not surprised by security, my husband and I went to a 5 star place in Puerto
Rica years ago and hotel said that it did not guarantee your safety if you walked further than the beach they owned.

ET Canada had 'more details' on Shania's wedding: Shania changed into a Vivienne Westwood c-ocktail dress for dancing. They said the ring is actually a 4.8 carat Lorraine Schwartz ring. Reception was a candlelight vegetarian meal on the beach, with a coconut cream cake. 1st dance was to Michael Buble's I'm Your Man...Shania later changed into some Jimmy Choo shoes. They also mentioned the OWN news about Shania not being able to sing in front of people anymore.

They left it on a positive note, saying her new show will make her the Queen of Country again.

Not on this show, but previously, I heard a report that after the ' I Do's' ... The guests started all singing 'All you Need Is Love' ... And that later at the reception, Shania sang.

Listen, even though Shania said she has lost her ability to sing/sing in front of others... She was singing recently in her travel/logue, on the sofa w her guitarist cousin...singing 'In the Ghetto' and 'Hit the Road Jack'
She loves singing, but I can understand how she would not like the pressure of following up her Mutt Lange produced/co-written albums.

Shania is a great singer/performer, but Mutt is a genius. Genius! Shania would have to work with David Foster and bring in Cory Churko, and other Mutt studio technicians to try and get that sound....but she might try something new....or...we might not get new music ever, just a covers album if we are lucky.

Rutherford Pairs the Wines For Shania Twain Wedding

RIO GRANDE, NEW JERSEY — Cape May County restaurateur Ric Rutherford, owner of Rio Station Restaurant, paired wines for singer Shania Twain's wedding to Frederic Thiebaud on the beach in Rincon, Puerto Rico on New Year's Day.

"I was asked by her natural foods caterer to pair wines for the dinner as well as provide party wines throughout the week for the guests. At first, they wanted French, Italian, and Californian wines but I suggested that they go with Spanish wines to keep it real since the wedding was in Puerto Rico. They decided that was a good idea, so we got busy tasting and it worked out beautifully."

Rutherford has also done wine consultation for the French hotel chain Relais Chateau and his restaurant has received the Wine Spectator award of Excellence, one of only 11 awarded in New Jersey in the inexpensive wine category.

Shania Twain wants a baby

Shania Twain is reportedly considering starting a family with her new husband.

The country musician wed Swiss-born Nestle businessman Frédéric Thiébaud in Rincon, Puerto Rico, on New Year's Day.

The news shocked many as although the pair had been dating for over a year they only confirmed their engagement in December.

The pair both have kids from previous relationships. Twain, 45, has nine-year-old son Eja with her ex-husband Robert John 'Mutt' Lange, while Thiébaud has a daughter called Johanna who is also nine.

The pair have now started to think of having a child of their own, which they think would cement their new family.

"Shania feels that having a baby with Frederic will make their new life complete," a source told National Enquirer magazine. "Ideally she'd like to carry the child herself, but due to her age she hasn't ruled out having a surrogate or adopting."

The baby plan is part of the reason the pair decided to tie the knot so soon, according to the publication.

They got engaged in October - choosing to keep the news to themselves for a while - and were planning to wed this summer, but decided not to wait so they can focus on family life.
