Lionel's duets album is expected to be out in March so "Endless Love" with Shania should be released sometime in January. We'll see. Lionel has mentioned it will be the lead single from the album. I wonder if Shania will promote the song at all or sing it with Lionel on any entertainment talk shows.

Lionel Richie Looks Ahead to Country Album
Tuskegee's Duets Include Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Shania Twain and More

Lionel Richie figured he'd include just a few duets on the album he was working on. Yet when he asked around, pretty much everybody in Nashville wanted in. The resulting project, Tuskegee, ended up being a full-fledged duets album with country's current A-list, including Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton and Shania Twain. Yet he also sings with longtime favorites like Jimmy Buffett, Willie Nelson and Kenny Rogers.

"I didn't know there was new and old," Richie said during a recent visit to CMT's offices in Nashville. "All I knew was that these are country artists and everybody's on board. And then I got into the album and realized, 'Holy mackerel, we've got a melting pot here of something amazing.'"

Drawing on material from his solo career, as well as his catalog with the Commodores, Richie is expected to release Tuskegee in March. In the meantime, though, the personable pop star talks about finding his comfort zone in the studio, making new friends and giving credit to his hometown.

CMT: What do you remember about the first day in the studio when the project was underway?

Richie: I will tell you exactly: It was the most terrifying moment of my life! If I do a song myself, then I'm in the studio and I work it out with the band there. If I do a duet with someone, you make it very simple. Don't bring the artist in until after you have the track together and don't work out all the details in front of the artist because you don't want them to see the imperfections until you get it right. In Nashville, they show up when I show up! They stood around like, "Lionel, I'm over here in the corner." And the band's playing, and I realized at that point, there's a different kind of stuff down here.

But what I loved was, everybody's involved. They've got patience. And then you realize, "Wait a minute. That's how they record. OK." It took three songs to get that itch away. It made me so nervous. I kept thinking, "Tim, are you all right? Is everything OK?" I kept asking over and over again, "Do you want to go out and come back," and he'd say, "No, no, I'm fine." ... It took those three songs -- Darius [on "Stuck on You"], Tim on "Sail On" and Blake with "You Are" to break the ice. After that, I was in a comfort zone.

I would imagine you were in a comfort zone pretty quickly with Blake.

Ah, I'm glad to hear you say that. I use this phrase very sparingly, but in this album's case, everybody I walked in with became my brand-new old friend. Everybody was so personable. Instead of me trying to make them feel comfortable, they made me feel comfortable. Blake's got that personality. Tim's got that personality. And, of course, I'm sure Darius was in the Commodores. I just can't find his picture.

Can you hear that comfort level on the record?

Oh, you can hear it right away. In other words, if you leave the session, you would want to sing the song in your show. Tim McGraw walked right out, and "Sail On" was in his show. Darius does "Stuck on You" in his show. Rascal Flatts does "Dancing on the Ceiling." I achieved exactly what I wanted. Not just for them to be nice and courteous to me. No, I thought, "I want you to own this song." What really worked for me was you could tell they liked singing it, but they liked singing it in the arrangement that we had because it was them. When we achieved that, then we really had magic.

You had success in the 1980s with an Alabama duet, "Deep River Woman," and writing "Lady" for Kenny Rogers. What was your perception of Nashville and country music during that era?

It was an island unto itself. It wasn't an island for long. And I should have known back then when Conway Twitty called me on the phone and said, "I'm doing 'Three Times a Lady.'" ... It should have told me right away, "Wait a minute." The arm came out of the cloud and said, "We'd like to bring you in here and make you a part of this community." ...

What I didn't realize back then was that I was writing as a storyteller. I hadn't discovered my legs yet. I think it took Conway to give me that first introduction. ... But I was in that world because I lived in Tuskegee, Ala. Once you hear it across the airwaves, you're in it. It was only country and R&B on the radio. And on Sundays, you got gospel. That's it.

When you lived in Tuskegee, what role did country music have in your day-to-day life?

First of all, everybody played guitar. Let's just stop right there. The next thing is, even through the Civil Rights movement, you start thinking about people who were activists and they had guitars. And by the way, they were local players. That's when I realized blues and country music are close together. ... It's in the fiber of what I'm doing. I just didn't realize I was ever going to be part of it because I didn't know I was going to be a songwriter back then. That's what growing up in the South will give you -- lots of great stories to talk about.

When you listen to Tuskegee, do you go back to that time in your life?

Absolutely. You work so hard to move away from your hometown, to be discovered and you think, "Maybe I'll retire in France." ... And all of a sudden, you go back to cut an album in Nashville, Tenn., and you go out to breakfast and it's grits and eggs, man. Grits and sausage and toast. And you go, "Hmmm, they don't serve grits in the South of France." I remember that -- bacon, eggs -- and you start getting into real life and realize the best years of your life are right down the road.

When they said, "What do you want to name the album?" I said, "I wrote these songs in Tuskegee, Ala. Why not give them the credit?" You know, my father always said there comes a time in life when you can't go home. In my case, I can. I did. And it worked out great.

Lionel Richie, 'Tuskegee': Album Preview
by Deborah Evans Price | January 17, 2012 9:50 EST

Lionel Richie
Title: Tuskegee | Release Date: March

Long before Grace Potter teamed with Kenny Chesney or Jimmy Buffett hit the top of the country charts duetting with Alan Jackson, Lionel Richie was making fans and friends in the country community. Richie penned Kenny Rogers' chart-topping hit "Lady," Conway Twitty covered his "Three Times a Lady," and Richie's collaboration with Alabama on "Deep River Woman" was among the highlights of the 1986 Country Music Assn. Awards. Last November, Richie returned to the CMAs to preview "Tuskegee," a collection of his classic hits performed with Little Big Town, Darius Rucker, Jason Aldean and other country acts.

"I wanted to do a country album," Richie said backstage at the CMA Awards, "and found out that every country act down here knows the lyrics [to my songs] better than I do, so I thought, 'Let's change this thing around and do a duets album and give everyone a chance to give their interpretation of what the songs are all about.' Instead of getting everyone to sing the track that I created, I wanted Rascal Flatts to come in and create a Rascal Flatts track and sound like themselves, make 'Dancing on the Ceiling' sound just like them. Then Shania Twain came in with 'Endless Love' and Jennifer Nettles with 'Hello' and Willie Nelson with 'Easy Like Sunday Morning.'"

UMG Nashville executive VP/GM Ken Robold says TV will play a major role in marketing "Tuskegee," which Richie named for his Alabama hometown. "We are hoping to also have a presence on the [Academy of Country Music] Awards," Robold says. "We have several other appearances planned, spanning morning, prime time and late night. Additionally, we are in talks with Home Shopping Network about a large presale event to help supplement our retail strategy. We feel the audience for this record has a broad appeal, particularly with adult females. Two of the genres that strongly appeal to this demographic are country and adult contemporary, so clearly these two will be a focus."

The first single has yet to be determined, but Robold hears many possibilities. "Every one of the songs on this record is timeless," he says. "When you couple Lionel's vocals with an incredibly strong array of duet partners, we feel that this record can surprise a lot of people."

I am starting to wonder if endless love will even be the lead single now. I am not getting my hopes up. Sounds like Shania vanished in to thin air, Like a lead single ????? Someone find out it's almost the end of January and still nothing announced.no

It says there is going to be a major promotion for the album on TV. Whichever song is the lead single I would assume the duet partner will join Lionel for most of the appearances. I mean I can't see him singing the song solo. That would defeat the whole purpose. So whether or not Shania wants to promote will likely determine if "Endless Love" is the lead single or not. I have a feeling she won't want to or isn't ready to perform.

I've said this before and I will say this again... Sometimes it's really hard being a Shania Twain fan. Ten years its been since the last album. What a ridculously long time to keep her fans waiting!!! And Taylor Swift did NOT fill the void left by her... She better come back big or I am going to be upset. This woman is my idol for goodness sakes! Oh well.... Here is to more and more waiting...

I think mutt was the person to give her strength to make the music she did! Without someone Pushing her and giving her a reason to do anything, it may be hard to see anything new. Mutt was a mentor to her

They may promote album on QVC like she has done before. It is located near New York. One of her book signings was in same area. They could hit there and some am or late tv talk/news shows in New York and promote it quickly.

But the question is, does Shania want to? If "Endless Love" is picked as the lead single, she'll be obligated to sing the song with Lionel on the album's promotional tour. If she doesn't want to, they can't choose it as the lead single.

Lionel Richie At Home In Tuskegee With Country Stars

Music icon Lionel Richie will release Tuskegee, a collection of 13 of his international hits recorded with some of the biggest names in country music, on March 27 on Mercury Nashville.

His duet partners on Tuskegee include Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington and Little Big Town.

On this worldwide, multi-genre album, Richie is also joined by the likes of such superstars as Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson and Jimmy Buffett.

In addition, the Academy of Country Music and dick clark productions will tape an all-star concert special, Lionel Richie and Friends “In concert” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 2. The show will air at a later date on the CBS Television Network. Some of his greatest hits will be performed by Jason Aldean, The Band Perry, Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Rogers and many more.

Tuskegee is an exciting new chapter in a career that has seen album sales of more than 100 million, 22 Top 10s, five Grammys, an Academy Award for Best Original Song, a Golden Globe, and a host of other awards.

Richie returns to his Southern roots to pay tribute to his hometown of Tuskegee, Alabama, where he was indelibly shaped as a man and a musician. He was exposed to country, gospel, R&B and classical music while growing up, and it was in Tuskegee where he helped form the Commodores and wrote his first hits, including “Sail On” and “Easy.”

“Tuskegee is where it all began, the place where I felt that everything was available and possible,” he says. “It’s where I learned about life and love and the power of music, and the place I built a musical foundation that knows no genres or boundaries.

“Doing this album was coming back to the beginning, back to basics, back to home,” he says. “The part of it I love the most is that the journey has been one of discovering myself. By the time I got back to Nashville, I clearly knew that the roots of my songwriting, my storytelling, were from the South.”

It’s also been a process of rediscovering the hits that have served as the soundtrack of the lives of generations around the world. “Every Lionel Richie song that I can think of I had a personal experience with – high school homecomings, proms, you name it,” says Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts, who duets on “Dancin’ On the Ceiling.” “Lionel was always playing in my house. His music always said what we felt and couldn’t express.”

Says Darius Rucker, who joins Richie on “Stuck On You,” “I wanted to work with Lionel because he is one of my idols. Lionel’s more a part of my DNA really than an idol. It was an absolute honor to work with him.” Adds Jason Aldean, who selected “Say You, Say Me,” “I’ve always been a huge fan. He is probably one of the best singer/songwriters of this generation.”

Once again, Richie is following his songs as they take him back to country, where they have been welcomed for more than two decades. Conway Twitty recorded “Three Times a Lady,” Kenny Rogers famously sang “Lady” and Alabama recorded “Deep River Woman.” Artists such as Tim McGraw, Darius Rucker and Rascal Flatts perform his songs in their shows. He has performed on the Country Music Association Awards three times, and his 2011 performance receive two standing ovations and was recognized as the highlight of the evening.

“When I did the CMAs and the room was singing along with me, it was really more like a family reunion than it was a concert or show,” he says. “It was just great validation to know that the music was accepted like it was.”

Lionel Richie’s Tuskegee Track-Listing:
“You Are” with Blake Shelton
“Say You, Say Me” with Jason Aldean
“Stuck On You” with Darius Rucker
“Deep River Woman” with Little Big Town
“My Love” with Kenny Chesney
“Dancing On The Ceiling” with Rascal Flatts
“Hello” with Jennifer Nettles
“Sail On” with Tim McGraw
“Endless Love” with Shania Twain
“Just For You” with Billy Currington

Lionel Richie Dishes on Dueting With Aldean, Chesney, Shania

One thing you might notice, though: None of them is engraved with the words "best country recording."

He might be aiming to change that with Tuskegee, his forthcoming debut as a would-be country artist. But it's not so much a matter of Mohammed going to the mountain that is country music, as it is that mountain coming to him. The album features duets with 13 of the genre's biggest artists on Richie's prior hits, and you could argue endlessly (and lovingly) about who adapted more toward whom, or what. With some exceptions, the songs remain very much in Richie's classic middle-of-the-road '80s pop style, albeit with a bit more acoustic instrumentation or steel guitar. Which is to say, they sound a lot like 2010s country.

There's not a song on the album that couldn't potentially be a country radio smash this year — depending on which artists and their labels are willing to grant him singles rights, of course. Among the guests are Shania Twain, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Darius Rucker, and Rascal Flatts. If we had to pick highlights from a first listen, we might go with the two songs that seem most dramatically altered: "Say You, Say Me," with Jason Aldean, which features a moodier and totally transformed arrangement, and "Hello," which instantly becomes 10,000 times more dramatic with the addition of Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles as a duet partner.

Richie invited country radio programmers from around the country to fly in for a listening party at his Beverly Hills estate over the weekend. Our Country was on the scene as Richie stood on his house's tented back steps and offered track-by-track introductions for the assembled 50 or so programmers. Here are a few of the recollections Richie offered about recording the duets:

Blake Shelton/"You Are"

"I've never seen a plaid shirt that large on a man before!"

Kenny Chesney/"My Love"

"I thought Kenny would want to do 'All Night Long.' It sounds like him! But he came in and said his favorite song [of mine] is 'My Love'… I told Kenny, and in fact I told all of the artists, 'When you do this song, make sure it's a song that, after you leave here, you would put it in your show.' So [with that in mind], Kenny brought his whole band. That's Kenny's band playing on the track! On top of that, we had an extra added superstar in the room, because Kenny told me that his mother had never been to a recording session in the history of his playing. She showed up at my recording session. She wanted pictures with Lionel Richie!"

Jason Aldean/"Say You Say Me"

"These guys must do thousands of pushups a day!" [He then did an impression of Aldean walking in the room, chest-first.] "Jason walked in and he was very shy. He said, 'Mr. Richie, I want to do "Say You Say Me".' I said, really? He said, '"Say You Say Me" is the bomb!'… Jason's a rocker. He likes power chords. He likes muscle. I said 'Okay, but we'll mess up the whole equation.' [We re-arranged] the song to make it like [Bob Dylan's] 'Lay Lady Lay.'"

Jennifer Nettles/"Hello"

"There are people in the business you can come to and say, 'I want you to make this song yours. Pretend it's not mine. Forget about me. Own it.' You can say that Darius, and [know] it's gonna be respectful. You don't say that to Jennifer Nettles. I made a mistake. I said, 'Jennifer, take this song and sing it the way you want to sing it and I'll match your vocal.' Wrong! I don't have to tell you. She said her favorite song is 'Hello.' And then you will hear the struggle of Lionel Richie trying to get back on his own song… It took me two weeks to recover from that vocal, honest to God. I looked at her and said 'Jennifer, at some point, breathe! There is another note coming.'… But I looked at her and realized, this girl is breathing. She just breathes every 40 minutes."

Rascal Flatts/"Dancing on the Ceiling"

"By this time, I no longer suggested songs, because I'm wrong [about what artists want to do]… I thought what would Rascal Flatts do? They came in with 'Dancing on the Ceiling.' I said, '" Dancing on the Ceiling" is about as country as Mona Lisa. It just doesn't work.' They said, 'No, Lionel, the band's gonna play it.'" The song ends with a long instrumental jam, because "they just kept playing. I said, 'Guys, we're making a record!' But they're playing like it 's a concert… I knew I was in trouble with Gary… I don't even have to tell you that it took half of my life away just putting me on that record with Gary [LeVox]. If he would just sing down here, but every time I tried to hit a note where I think I'm kicking ass, Gary goes up four octaves higher... He said he went on vacation right after he cut this song. I said, what do you do on a vacation? He said 'Oh, I killed a buck.' And he pulled out a picture, and I realized, I may not be that country. I'm getting close, but we ain't that country."

Shania Twain/"Endless Love"

"I actually called her, not knowing that Shania had not had a note come out of her mouth in seven years. Little old naïve me… I said, 'I'm thinking about "Endless Love"… I promise I will guide you through this song'—not knowing she was in complete vocal paralysis." Twain agreed but wanted to cut the song at her beach house in the Bahamas to avoid people knowing about the session. "I'm thinking, this is the most secret song I've ever done in my life… We fly in with a stealth crew… I wake up in the morning, go into the living room, there's Oprah's OWN, the entire show, sitting in my living room! I said, 'Guys, you gotta get out of here. She's scared to death of people.' They said, 'No no no, Lionel, we're with Shania. She's doing a show called 'How I Got My Voice Back.' I'm now doing an interview saying, she's got her voice—I think! They're saying 'No, Lionel, up to this point, she's not been able to sing.' Now I'm getting scared, because we spent the [album] budget to come down! She walks in and says, 'I don't think I can do this.' That's when I told the cameras to cut off… I , 'I promise you, when you walk into that room and stand in front of that microphone and open your mouth, you will turn into Shania Twain'… The first note you will hear from Shania on 'Endless Love' is the first time she opened her mouth to sing."

Wlllie Nelson/"Easy"

"Willie and I have been friends for a very long time… Let me just give you the setting here. He was busted in Texas, they let him out, he gets on the bus and drives to Nashville. He literally gets off the bus for the session. I say to him, 'Willie, you look amazing.' His answer was profound. He says 'Well, I should, I lost eight ounces.'… How many artists in the history of the music business can get Willie Nelson to sing 'I want to be high'?"

Billy Currington/"Just for You"

"He is the nicest guy I've ever met. I felt like a scout leader. I felt like Uncle Richie. I keep trying to feel sorry for him—until he opens his mouth, and then I realize, this kid's trying to kill me."

Jimmy Buffett/"All Night Long"

"All the artists I thought would do 'All Night Long' didn't. And then Jimmy calls me up, and I said, 'You mean I can get all the Parrotheads to follow me?'"

Richie added that, although this will be marketed as a country album in the States, it's being treated as a pop album in other territories around the world. Which, he added, could pay off as exposure for some of his duet partners who haven't gotten so much attention in country-averse nations. "The label reps told me, 'You are taking them [country artists] around the world. I didn't realize. We're piggybacking this entire beautiful industry where they get to hear real music and great songwriters. I can't wait for these wonderful artists to blow up over there because they need that… [Can you imagine] Kenny Chesney in the middle east!"

 FANTASTIC!!!!!!

Universal Mexico released "Endless Love" at the end of an article posted on their website which I translated from Spanish into English. It will be the lead single from Lionel Richie's Tuskegee album being released March 27. So does this mean Shania will be on the album's promotional tour with Lionel???

Lionel
Richie & Shania Twain sing "Endless Love"

January 26, 2012

Tuskegee is a review of the brilliant career of Lionel Richie, which has sold over 100 million albums, won five Grammys, an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a handful of other awards.

The first single from this album cut is the famous "Endless Love" ("Eternal Love") that was subject of the film of the same name and originally was sung with Diana Ross.

In this new version in which the Canadian Shania Twain is involved, the arrangement is much cooler, less formal and, of course, country air, but also with Caribbean flavor.

This is the disc's repertoire.

“Say You, Say Me” with Jason Aldean

“Stuck On You” with Darius Rucker

“Deep River Woman” with Little Big Town

“My Love” with Kenny Chesney

“Dancing On The Ceiling” with Rascal Flatts

“Hello” with Jennifer Nettles

“Sail On” with Tim McGraw

“Endless Love” with Shania Twain

“Just For You” with Billy Currington

“Lady” with Kenny Rogers

“Easy” with Willie Nelson

“All Night Long” with Jimmy Buffett

HERE WE HAVE "ENDLESS LOVE", the new version performed by Lionel Richie and Shania Twain.

Universal Mexico says it will be the first single off the album. I assume that's in all countries. It will probably be released in the next couple weeks.

I would think Shania has to. How can you promote a new album without singing the lead single? And Lionel singing it solo would be pointless and defeat the purpose and promotion of the album. It's a DUETS album!

She don't need Mutt. She sounds better than she did when she was with him. A new Shania with a awesome voice.  A different kind of album likely but if she sounds this good on her next album she will set quit the few records. I have a feeling this single might get sang at the ACM Awards!

According to Universal Music Canada, Lionel's duets album will be released March 19 in Canada. That is 8 days earlier than in the U.S. (March 27).

Lionel Richie’s, Tuskegee Available March 19

Featuring Thirteen of Richie’s Hits Performed With Country’s Biggest Stars Including Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Willie Nelson and Jennifer Nettles (Sugarland)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Live Star Academie (Quebec) Performance Confirmed For March 18

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

(TORONTO - January 26th, 2012)– Music icon Lionel Richie will release Tuskegee, a collection of thirteen of his international hits recorded with some of the biggest names in country music on March 19 through Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company.

His duet partners on Tuskegee, a multi-genre album, include superstars like Canada’s own Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington and Little Big Town. On the eve of Tuskegee’s Canadian release, Richie will appear on Quebec’s leading television program, “Star Academie”, performing six of his classic super-hits LIVE to over two million viewers.

Tuskegee is a musical homecoming that feels like a heartwarming reunion with a beloved friend. Richie proves that you can go home again as he returns to his Southern roots to pay tribute to his hometown of Tuskegee, Alabama where he was indelibly shaped as a man and a musician. He was exposed to country, gospel, R&B and classical music while growing up, and it was in Tuskegee where he helped form the Commodores and wrote his first hits, including “Sail On” and “Easy”. “Tuskegee is where it all began, the place where I felt that everything was available and possible,” Richie says. “It’s where I learned about life, love and the power of music, and the place I built a musical foundation that knows no genres or boundaries.” “Doing this album was like going back to the beginning, back to basics, back to home,” added Richie. “The part of it I love the most is that the journey has been one of discovering myself. By the time I got back to Nashville, I clearly knew that the roots of my songwriting, my storytelling, were from the South.” It’s also been a process of rediscovering the hits that have served as the soundtrack of the lives of generations around the world.

“Every Lionel Richie song that I can think of I had a personal experience with – high school homecomings, proms, you name it,” says Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts, who duets on “Dancin’ On the Ceiling.” “Lionel was always playing in my house. His music always said what we felt and couldn’t express.” Says Darius Rucker, who joins Richie on “Stuck On You,”: “I wanted to work with Lionel because he is one of my idols. Lionel’s more a part of my DNA really than an idol. It was an absolute honour to work with him.” Adds Jason Aldean, who selected “Say You, Say Me,”: “I’ve always been a huge fan. He is probably one of the best singer/songwriters of this generation.”

Once again, Richie is following his songs as they take him back to country, where they have been welcomed for more than two decades. Conway Twitty recorded “Three Times a Lady”. Kenny Rogers famously sang “Lady” and Alabama recorded “Deep River Woman”. Artists such as Tim McGraw, Darius Rucker and Rascal Flatts perform his songs in their shows.

These innovative musical interpretations have given new meaning to his songs while serving as a powerful reminder of the timelessness of his impressive body of work. He asked the other singers to select the songs and ignore his original version and instead perform the song as if it were their own. “I wanted it the way they would do it in their show, which means I captured their essence. You make the song a Willie Nelson song. You make the song a Rascal Flatts song.” “It’s special to the point where it sounds new again, so I’m excited just as the writer, as the parent of this child. I’m excited to see another generation embrace the music.”

Richie says recording Tuskegee was perhaps the most fun he’s ever had in the studio. “Tuskegee is one of the most special albums I’ve ever done in my life because it’s a moment in time when these artists all got together and celebrated some music,” he says. “What started out as a collaboration of a group of very talented, very successful artists ended up growing into brand new, very good friends.”

Lionel Richie’s Tuskegee Track-Listing:

1. “You Are” with Blake Shelton
2. “Say You, Say Me” with Jason Aldean
3. “Stuck On You” with Darius Rucker
4. “Deep River Woman” with Little Big Town
5. “My Love” with Kenny Chesney
6. “Dancing On The Ceiling” with Rascal Flatts
7. “Hello” with Jennifer Nettles
8. “Sail On” with Tim McGraw
9. “Endless Love” with Shania Twain
10. “Just For You” with Billy Currington
11. “Lady” with Kenny Rogers
12. “Easy” with Willie Nelson
13. “All Night Long” with Jimmy Buffett

When I compare this version to the one she did with Lionel on the show she did, I have to admit it sounded better on the show. I love it, but it sounded better then.

Nevertheless...it's something new from her, and at this point I'll take anything.

Shania Duets With Lionel Richie!

June 14, 2011

This NEEDS to be released as a single!

Check out this clip from the final episode of Shania Twain's docu-series, Why Not?, in which the singer and Lionel Richie record a duet of the classic Endless Love together (above)!

She sounds absolutely AMAZING!

Such an inspiration, after all she's endured with her vocal problems and such!

Congratulations, gurl!

Well, he could sing it with another female partner, like Michael Bublè did with White Christmas.

It would be very sad, because it would mean Shania's not ready to sing live yet. But Vegas is coming nearer and nearer and she needs to reharse

I guess Lionel could always have Diana Ross come back and sing it with him. biggrin biggrin biggrin

I was thinking the same thing when I read Chris' comment. It's the EXACT same vocal performance. It's just on the show it was edited out to show the most powerful parts. I love this song. I've played it for a few friends who aren't Shania fans and even they loved it. I really hope it does well.

If everything is true about "Endless Love" becoming the first single release from the album, does this mean we could expect a music video (assuming it is them recording it in the Bahammas), and impacting country radio to hit the top 40 charts nation wide?

A music video is probably unlikely unless they release the entire footage of the clip of Shania and Lionel that was shown on "Why Not?" last year.

As far as radio, I'd expect the song to impact Adult Contemporary radio stations rather than Country radio.

I would hope to hear it on country stations. After all this is registered as a country album for Richie. I would expect it to be on both sides of the charts, but I can't quite put my head into gears of where it would reach it's peak!

No, I wasn't joking. I don't make jokes when it comes to ST.

I was, however, comparing the TV show version when she was recording with Lionel, to the finished version. I liked the TV version better. BUT....I am not taking anything away from the finished version.

I believe Shania's voice to be the only voice I can listen to 24/7 and never get bored.

Supporting Lionel Richie's upcoming album Tuskegee, celebrating his Southern heritage via countryfied remakes of his biggest hits. Shania Twain guests on this track, while other guests include Kenny Chesney, Kenny Rogers, Rascal Flatts and many others. And with all due respect to Jennifer Nettles, it's unlikley any version of "Hello" can top the viral making the rounds.

  • artist: Lionel Richie f/ Shania Twain
  • song: "Endless Love"
  • label: Mercury Nashville
  • director(s): Paul Boyd
  • production co: Weapons of Mass Entertainment
  • rep/exec. producer: Randi Wilens @ RW Media
