GAC's Top 50 Videos of the 90's - Vote for Shania!

GAC Time Machine: Shania Twain’s “Any Man Of Mine”

It was just about this very same week back in 1995 when Shania Twain hit the top of the Billboard country chart with  “Any Man of Mine,” a song that quickly became an anthem for women everywhere. Written by Shania and her then-husband Mutt Lange, the song was Shania’s very first No. 1 single and also her first crossover hit when it reached the Top 40 on the pop charts.  The song was featured on her multi-platinum selling album, The Woman In Me, which won the 1995 Grammy for Best Country Album and ACM award for Album of the Year.

The video for “Any Man of Mine” was filmed in Santa Ynez, California and directed by John Derek and Charley Randazzo. In the video, Shania is on a ranch, riding horses, herding cattle and driving pickup trucks. She raised eyebrows – and the pulse rates of men everywhere – by wearing jeans and a midriff baring jean vest while dancing around in a field. The video won the Canadian Country Music Award for Video of the Year as well as AOL’s Online Music Award for Hottest Country Video.

Jump in the GAC Time Machine and take a trip back to 1995 for Shania Twain’s “Any Man of Mine”:

GAC’s Top 10 Artists Who Defined the ’90s

As FM radio expanded in the early ’90s, Americans who only knew cowboy hats and a couple of Willie Nelson songs were introduced to stars like Garth Brooks, George Strait and Reba McEntire. It was a great time for country music; the genre was booming and the rest of America was taking notice. Here’s our list of the Top 10 artists who defined country music in a decade when the format reached new frontiers. As with any list, we know there are many more than 10 who impacted the genre. If you don’t see your favorite here, leave us a comment at the end and let us know which artists helped define the ’90s for you! And, don’t forget to cast your vote for GAC’s Top 50 Videos of the ’90s!

#3 Shania Twain
Shania released only three albums in the 1990s on her way to becoming an international icon. Even more astounding, her 1993 self-titled debut topped out at #67 on the US Country Albums chart and didn’t reach platinum status until six years later, after the release of 1995’s The Woman In Me and 1997’s Come On Over. However, these two latter releases paved the way for one of the most impressive careers in music history. The string of hits from these two albums is astounding. “Any Man of Mine” and three other No. 1 singles from The Woman In Me, and then the mega-hits “You’re Still The One,” “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” and “That Don’t Impress Me Much” from Come On Over. Come On Over is the best-selling female album of all time in any genre and the best-selling country album of all time, with sales in excess of 40 million copies. With help from rock producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange, Shania combined undeniably catchy country melodies, slick pop production and a sexy image with empowered female themes to hit the mainstream full on. She helped define ’90s country by using the building pop bridge to reach mainstream audiences and show new fans a modern version of country music that was fun, progressive and easily accessible. Shania is also a 5-time Grammy winner and won both the ACM and CMA awards for Entertainer of the Year in 1999.

I know somebody will write down Shania's results but could you also pay attention to LeAnn Rimes' positions? Thanks.

Part 1 (50-41) aired tonight. "Any Man Of Mine" came in at #41. (Tanya, there weren't any LeAnn Rimes videos). They also showed a 3-second clip of four videos that didn't quite make the Top 50. "From This Moment On" came in at #53.

Part 2 (40-31) airs tomorrow night at 8:00pm ET.

Hi,

Shania was no. 38 with Man I feel like a Woman.  I am DVRing it and just happened to tune in to see her and she was on there at 37 or 38 not sure which one.  I'll bet she has a song on every night...she had lots of hits in the 90's and they all placed somewhere on the chart I just know it.

Warmest regards as always,

Tonto

Part 4 (20-11) aired tonight. Again, there weren't any Shania (or LeAnn Rimes) videos. So far Shania only has two videos in the Top 50. "Any Man Of Mine" at #41 and "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" at #36.

Part 5 (10-1) airs tomorrow night at 8:00pm ET. There must be at least one Shania video in the Top 10! I'm guessing "You're Still The One."
