British soul singer Adele has set a new record for the New Zealand music charts.
The Grammy-award winner's latest album, 21, has held onto the top spot for 24 weeks, breaking the previous record held by Shania Twain's 1997 album Come on Over, which held onto the top spot for 23 weeks.
Adele soared to number one after the release of Rolling in the Deep, followed by love ballad Someone like You.
Following her performance at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, Someone like You became Adele's second number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
The Official Charts Company has said Adele is the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both the UK Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since The Beatles in 1964.
When 21 had spent 11 consecutive weeks at number one in the UK, it became the longest ever by a female solo artist at the top of the UK Albums Chart, surpassing Madonna's nine weeks at number one in 1990 with her greatest hits compilation The Immaculate Collection.
