But that doesn’t stop Star from going where other outlets have already gone, trying to manufacture buzz about big names joining the panel.
The tab lists Perry, Twain, Simpson and Kardashian as potential Cowell recruitment targets, then quickly gives itself a convenient out by claiming that those stars may choose not to join the talent competition.
Of course, Star is the same publication that falsely claimed Cowell was supposedly trying to break up Spears and Jason Trawick while also allegedly controlling Lovato’s dating life.
In other words, the magazine’s insight into the inner workings of the panel is… um, questionable.
Its current reporting on upcoming changes to the show is — not surprisingly — off base.
“This story is completely made up,” a spokesperson for “The X Factor” tells Gossip Cop.
Simon Cowell Trying to Lure Shania Twain for ‘X Factor’?
By Sterling Whitaker | Dec. 28, 2012
It looks like maybe Blake Shelton and Keith Urban have started a trend. Shelton became the first major country star to appear on a mainstream reality TV singing competition when he signed on as a coach for ‘The Voice,’ while Urban is appearing as a judge on the upcoming season of ‘American Idol.’ Now, according to reports, Simon Cowell is trying to woo country superstar Shania Twain for ‘X Factor.’
According to Star magazine (via Gossip Cop), there’s a “crisis” on the set of the show, with all of the judges supposedly leaving or considering leaving. And that’s why the tabloid says Cowell is pursuing Twain, along with Katy Perry, Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian, as possible replacements for his current panel.
Of course, L.A. Reid is the only judge who has confirmed that he is departing the show, while both Britney Spears and Demi Lovato have remained mum on their plans. So it could very well be that the tabloid is simply doing what tabloids do — making stuff up to stir up controversy and sell papers.
Even if Twain wanted to pursue the opportunity — assuming it actually exists — she is currently committed to her Las Vegas residency ‘Shania: Still the One‘ for two years, so it’s hard to see how she would work it in. But that question may be academic, since a spokesperson for ‘X Factor’ tells Gossip Cop, “This story is completely made up.”
