LAST RIDE TO VEGAS

Shania Twain gets ready to wrap up her Caesars residency

By Matt Kelemen | October 10, 2014

It seems like only yesterday that Shania Twain rode an ebony steed in front of Caesars Palace as throngs of fans watched from both sides of Las Vegas Boulevard. Twain’s grand entrance on Nov. 14, 2012, marked a two-year residency at The Colosseum that kicked off the following month with her first magic motorcycle ride to the stage, before she launched into set opener, “I’m Gonna Getcha Good!” This December finds Twain performing her final shows of Shania: Still the One, completing an engagement that put her in a pantheon with Rod Stewart, Bette Midler, Elton John, Cher and Celine Dion.

Still the One has been both a career milestone and an evolution, as Shania took a Vegas-ized version of her show—including her band, dancers, backup singers and video segments—to Prince Edward Island in her home country to perform before 23,000 fans in August. The Canadian country chanteuse arrived back at Caesars Oct. 8 for 16 more dates, with her final show Dec. 13, at a time when the cowboy world is focused on Las Vegas for National Finals Rodeo. It’s a fitting final bow for the only Vegas headliner who rides a horse onstage.

Twain’s special rapport with her fans is as integral a part of her show as the “4-D” production design and costume changes. Part of her set is reserved for her to wander through the audience so concertgoers get a chance to take selfies with the star of the show in the shot, and a lucky few get to join her onstage for a “campfire” sequence. It’s the hits that the majority of fans come for, though, and Twain delivers with the help of an onstage string section and a trio of backup vocalists including her sister Carrie Ann Brown and twins Ryan and Dan Kowarsky.

Emerging in a crystal-studded semi-sheer bodysuit, Twain changes into pink boots and jeans as “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” and “No One Needs to Know” are performed in front of a honky-tonk backdrop. Video visuals preview the midriff-bearing leopard-skin outfit she dons for “That Don’t Impress Me Much” and convey her deep love for horses before she rides onstage wearing a white gown atop a matching Andalusian for “You’re Still the One.” It’s safe to say all eyes are on Twain for the finale, though, when she wears the sexiest of designer Marc Bouwer’s creations while performing “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!”

It’s also safe to say Twain has one of the hottest backing bands on the Strip. Where she takes her musicians after Still the One ends remains to be seen, but fan reaction to her Prince Edward Island concert demonstrated high demand for live Shania. A break from live performances gives Twain time to record or immerse herself in her charitable work for children, but if fans don’t want to gamble on Twain touring in the future, they have the chance to catch her at The Colosseum now.

Caesars Palace, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14-15, 17-18, 21 & 24-25, $55-$250 plus tax and fee. 888.929.7849

J-Lo may have her eyes set on Caesars

By Norm Clarke | Las Vegas Review-Journal | October 20, 2014

With Celine Dion on leave and Shania Twain leaving Caesars Palace, is Jennifer Lopez at the top of AEG and Caesars’ “get” list?

The presence of Lopez, along with longtime manager Benny Medina, at Twain’s show on Friday ignited speculation that J-Lo may be considering her first Las Vegas headliner residency.

She has been on a roll since 2011 when she signed as a judge on “American Idol.”

Her singing and acting career had slumped in 2009 when her song “Louboutins” failed to stir interest.

She had failed to crack the Top 10 as a lead artist for nearly a decade.

Watching some of the Vegas videos....wish that people would put down their silly cell phones, stop taking "selfies" with her and let her sing....

God I hate smarthphones....just enjoy the concert....

And the Vegas audiences are so old, white and boring....yikes. SOOOO much better of a crowd when she toured. So many ages, ethnicity's and energy....she is now playing for the bingo crowd.

Just a question: does Vegas allows playback?
I know Britney uses it almost for the entire setlist, but maybe Caesars doesn't allow it. I've got the feeling Shania sings FTMO in playback and the chorus of AMOM too.

I don't think she lip syncs during AMOM as she is walking through the audience during that song and standing right beside people for selfies. Everyone standing next to her would notice it. I have noticed at the end of FTMO that there is always an echo. The "t" at the end of the word "moment" is always echoing... "from this moment-t". I don't know if that's a sign of lip-syncing or if it's just the way she sings the song.

But someone on youtube wrote this in a comment: "I just saw the show last night and she messed up during from this moment. She sang "I gave my hand to ME with all my heart. Lol" she said she messes up lyrics all the time. Definitely not lypsynched."

Thanks. you're right, during AMOM she's in the crowd, so she probably sings live.
However, I don't know about FTMO, I saw different videos on YouTube and she seems to sing the song always in the same way. It's quite strange, because no one can sings a song the same way everytime, even singers like Celine or Reba.
And I think about playback because she can't reach the high note at the end of IGGG anymore but she can reach the high notes on FTMO.

I just played two FTMO videos from different dates at the same time and the singing was identical. That's disappointing. I hope she at least sang it live during the recording of the DVD.

They were different from the original because even though she says her voice's back better than ever, it's far from being back better than ever. The only song she seems to be able to sing really well now is NONTK

oh brother lol stop whining about if she sounds exactly like she did 15 years ago . i am sure Shania uses some backing track but mostly live. Remember mutt produced these songs with many layers to them so every song mutt produced Will never sound live the same way it does on record. And to Matt, her voice is just fine and sounds very good now live and i think people who saw her in Calgary will agree. Seriously people what is with the b.s. complaining about her voice???? talk about her new album and how it will sound and when it will come out, her voice is just fine !! do you people just sit there and watch video after video and pick apart every chorus lol that is kevy's 2 cents. Now go out and enjoy a great fall day and enjoy life.

Have you even seen the show? Or do you judge from youtube videos? The sound of that 55-minute video is awful and the sound of many other videos as well. She sounds great live and I think better than on the Chicago DVD. Her voice sounds amazing during the campfire and especially during "Today is your day". I don't care if the songs sound like the originals on the CD's. It doesn't have to sound like the originals. Every voice changes over time. I don't even listen to the CD's anymore because I like her live voice much more. I love that her voice is deeper and rougher now.

Elton John extends Vegas show 3 more years

By Associated Press - Thursday, October 23, 2014

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Caesars Entertainment officials say Elton John will keep performing at Caesars Palace for three more years.

The company and AEG Live announced the contract extension this week.

The famed singer-songwriter first took to the stage at The Colosseum on the Strip with The Million Dollar Piano Show in 2011.

The show features the musician playing a piano decorated with LED video screens.

Five-time Grammy winner Celine Dion and country music superstar Shania Twain also perform at the venue.

Dion hasn’t performed since July 29, when she cancelled shows to recuperate from a serious vocal-cord illness and is now caring for her husband Rene Angelil, who is battling throat cancer.

Twain’s performances end in December.

Tickets for Elton John’s performances in January, March and April of next year start at $55 to $250 and go on sale Sunday at 10 a.m. PDT.

Project Description

Shania Twain has joined the great roster performers that play multi year runs at the Ceasars Colosseum in Las Vegas (Celine Dion, Elton John, Rod Stuart). Her show required a flexible stage with elevators, mobilators, and a flying ‘HorseCycle’. The look and feel of the show had to reflect Shanias personal story and public persona. It feels both intimate and spectacular for a nightly audience of four thousand.

This production will run for at least two years.

According to Billboard, she sold out 2 shows out of 3 (October 21-25).
Glad she's selling out some shows, these could be the last chances to see her live.
We don't know if and when we'll see her live again, so I hope that she will sell out all her shows in December.

I was there with my fiancée on October 24 and 25, and what an amazing show... I LOVED the entrance on the motorcycle. The first night I didn't even notice that Shania was already there as I wasn't expecting this! The entire show is amazing.
The show on the 25th was like a dream since we had the chance to take a selfie with Shania. We were seating FORCH2 BB and she went down just for one minute to take a picture with us and a blonde fan who was as excited to be here as we were! She was still wearing her first costume which is my favorite and I think she doesn't go down in the audience so early during the show!

On the 25th we stand up during the entire show. The audience was amazing, and so was Shania! The encore was amazing, perfect costume and staging! She also signed one of our tickets the second time she went into the audience... we felt so lucky!

At the boutique all the Shania products are currently on sale, excluding the program. What a chance for us! We bought all the different key rings, postcards, mugs and cups... For less than $50!

I wish I could go back in December... :'(

Shania Twain at Caesars Palace: Event Review

November 12, 2014

Country maven Shania Twain is ending her Las Vegas residency very soon. During the show, she noted that there were only ten dates left. In the next breath, she said that she was ready to hit the road – so if you missed her show, Still the One at Caesars Palace, you might be seeing her in your town in the future.

The show was/is chock-a-block full of her hits. It definitely sounds like a Shania show. This point was accented by a montage of clips and stills from her many videos that played out on the curtained backdrop of the stage, while Shania belted out a hit in the midst of gyrating dancers.

The band was very well rehearsed, to the point where I thought that they all might simply be actors and Shania was singing to a backup track. This illusion was put to rest because of the violinists – they were real and they were playing. I noted that the violinists were holding their bows in a manner that denoted classical training, and one of the electric violins developed a problem and was switched out mid-song.

Shania’s voice, always her forte, is still good. There were no vocal slip-ups except for two instances – and both were not the result of any vocal impediment. The first happened after the opening number, when she commented that the audience looked great, and then immediately, bizarrely asked the audience, “Do I look good?” She acknowledged the weirdness of this remark instantly. The other happened on one of her several forays into the audience, when an over-eager fan sang along with Shania. Her enthusiasm and vocal strength were, unfortunately, not matched with vocal quality.

Near the end of the show, with the stage decorated in a faux Northern Ontario woods setting, complete with a fire pit, Shania began pulling members of the audience out. One guy proposed to his girlfriend on stage, and another explained how her music helped her through divorce. A lot of drama was brought to the stage. The Shania Twain retrospective was turning into The Oprah Show.

To be honest, I am quite ambivalent about Shania, and although I have heard most of the songs on the radio at some point in the last decade or so, they really have not made an impression on me. One that I remember from the show was the song, “Don’t Impress Me Much.” This song, or at least its refrain and title, sum up the show for me.

Yes, fans will love it, but I was not impressed. The lighting and stage were not spectacular. It would work well for a road show, as she hinted, but I always expected a Las Vegas show to dazzle. You can catch Shania at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas until December 13th.

It looks like it'll be Reba or Dolly to take Shania's place at Ceasar in 2015. Shania will introduce the new country star somewhere during her last leg in December.

Yeah, here is the article that mentions it. Actually they need artists to fill in for Celine. Now she's not expected to return until May.

Celine Dion’s return delayed? Plus, new stars to be announced for the New Year

By Robin Leach | November 17, 2014

Plans are in progress for Celine Dion’s return to her residency at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace, but because that’s now not likely to resume until May instead of the earlier expected March date, two stars are being added to the lineup.

In a passing of the baton as Shania Twain winds up her two-yearlong Las Vegas residency on Dec. 13, expect the first of two star announcements to be made.

The first will involve a “country superstar with a myriad of No. 1 hits,” and that’s set off a guessing game of rumors on the possibility of several stars, including a major spotlight on a string of concerts by Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton.

“The identity will be revealed before Shania leaves town,” I was told when I checked on the rumors. “Shania will welcome her to the Colosseum.”

The second star will be announced in early January. That announcement had been scheduled in Los Angeles over the next two weeks, but now the music artist has decided that she wants to travel to Las Vegas to do it in person and with select media interviews.

I had been told from reliable sources that despite some good news on Celine’s husband Rene Angelil’s battle with cancer, there has been a setback and she has decided that she needs the additional two months to continue caring for him.

Rene was spotted at a poker tournament in the Venetian last week but “looking frail with considerable weight loss.” He has been battling throat cancer and underwent another surgery this year.

Shania returns to Caesars on Dec. 6 for her final six shows of her two-year residency. She plans to finish recording her new album and hit the road on tour, as she told me exclusively in our most recent sit-down interview. You will be able to see part of it in my appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s “Where Are They Now?” airing on OWN on Nov. 30 at 9:00pm ET/PT.

The night before her final Dec. 13 show, Shania will host a party for her Shania Kids Can Foundation. She’ll be on hand to talk about the program and will personalize items won in the silent auction. Proceeds from the event will benefit the SKC program here in North Las Vegas, which began at Tom Williams Elementary School.

Strip Scribbles

By Robin Leach | November 18, 2014

NEW STRIP STARS: My Celine Dion report Monday set off a frenzy of media calls trying for more information. All I can add now is that the first new superstar will be revealed in the next 20 days, but that residency won’t start until mid-year at the Colosseum.

The second superstar announcement will be made in early January for an almost immediate start before the end of the month. Sir Elton John, who has had a number of hospital scares, had agreed to play additional dates during Celine’s absence but is currently recovering from knee surgery.

Reba McEntire at Caesars?

By Robin Leach | November 19, 2014

GUESSING GAME: The identity of the two new hit-making stars headed to Caesars Palace for a Colosseum residency is still under top-secret wraps. The guessing game that I first reported Monday heated up Tuesday when ABC Radio Network followed my lead and also threw Reba McEntire’s name into the mix.

I’m reliably told that all will be revealed shortly after Thanksgiving when Shania Twain wraps her two-year residency with her final six shows from Dec. 6-13. Shania will host an after-show party Dec. 12 for her Shania Kids Can Foundation, and she’s promised to personalize items won in the silent auction.

Proceeds benefit her program here in Las Vegas, which will continue after she leaves town, although she says that she will return to check up on it. Tickets are available at skcafterparty-vegas.whindo.com.

Reba is working on a new album due to release in 2015, she sells out with no problem almost all her tour dates in US and Canada and she's just signed a new record deal.
I find it hard to believe she'll be in Vegas.
And so for Dolly. Her Blue Smoke cd has sold very well and its tour sold out many dates around the world, especially in Australia and NZ. So, same as Reba, it's hard to believe a Vegas choice.

I think Reba would do well in Vegas. She has a ton of hits that easily lend themselves to big, theatrical Vegas-style productions. Dolly maybe. Carrie Underwood would put on a great Vegas show, and it would be a pretty good time for her - mid-year she'll be post-baby, Greatest Hits out, no album to promote just yet. I just think she's maybe too "young" (in terms of career) for Vegas. There aren't a whole lot of other options, considering Faith and Trisha are both out. The only others I can think of who fit the "profile" are Martina McBride and LeAnn Rimes, but both of their careers have been pretty slow lately. I'd bet neither of their shows would sell well (and I say that as a fan of both, especially of their recent music). Maybe Wynonna - she seems like a Vegas type.

what does selling well on tour have to do with deciding to play in Vegas? Shania could go on tour now ans sell much more tickets than reba and so can all the other Caesars acts.   i  think it is Reba. She was asked by a reporter a year ago if she would ever try vegas and she said she would .

Caesars prepares to name first of two Colosseum headliners in Celine’s absence

By Robin Leach | November 25, 2014

Caesars Palace executives confirmed today our previous Vegas DeLuxe stories that a new headliner for the Colosseum is about to be announced. The identity and contract terms are still cloaked in secrecy.

A press conference will be held at 11 a.m. next Wednesday, Dec. 3, where the star’s identity will be made official. But the artist won’t start the new residency run of shows until next summer, as we also previously reported.

A second headliner who will be named before Shania Twain’s final Dec. 13 performance at the Colosseum will start a run of shows in January.

Speculation on that artist‘s identity has ranged from Katy Perry in recent days to Taylor Swift, among others. The rumors of Katy could have some credence: Her recent tour has ended, her grandmother lives here in Las Vegas, she performed at Caesars for high-rollers last New Year’s Eve, and Katy is dating Wynn and Encore resident DJ Diplo.

The Caesars official release this morning stated: "AEG Live and Caesars Palace are excited to announce the newest resident headliner at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Wednesday, Dec. 3, where the artist will be announced and in attendance."

Although Jennifer Lopez was seen recently at Caesars planning a private one-night-only show, it’s not believed that she will be in the running for either the Colosseum or as rumored elsewhere at Britney Spears’ Axis at Planet Hollywood theater — but denied here.

The slate of new stars for the Colosseum has been brought about because of Celine Dion’s decision to push back her return from March to May or June while she battles her vocal-chord problems and cares for husband Rene Angelil’s battle with throat cancer.

Sir Elton John had agreed to play extra dates in his Caesars contract but was hospitalized with knee surgery last month. Colosseum headliner Rod Stewart also added dates to his current contract to help fill the dark nights.

“You’ll know soon enough,” I was told today. “But it will remain a secret for another eight days.”

Reba McEntire and reunited Brooks & Dunn are new Caesars headliners

Image
Reba McEntire is flanked by Ronnie Dunn and Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn at the Colosseum on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, in Caesars Palace. The new residency “Reba and Brooks & Dunn: Together in Vegas” is scheduled to begin next June.

It’s not just singer Reba McEntire joining the lineup of star rockers at Caesars Palace for a new residency starting in June, but in this morning’s surprise at the Colosseum, she revealed that she’s reunited Brooks & Dunn to join her in “Reba and Brooks & Dunn: Together in Vegas.”

“This is not our last hurrah,” Reba said this morning at Caesars. “This isn’t going to be us going off into retirement. None of us are even ever thinking about retiring.”

The “Queen of Country” is already a beloved Las Vegas regular with her appearances and hosting roles at the Academy of Country Music Awards at MGM Grand Garden Arena over the years.

We first tipped the news of Reba’s possible Caesars residency on Nov. 17 and again Nov. 19. She joins Sir Elton John and Rod Stewart in the Colosseum lineup, taking up open dates as a result of Celine Dion’s absence to take care of her husband, Rene Angelil, struggling with throat cancer complications.

Caesars also will announce in early January one other superstar headliner who will start almost immediately at the theater. I’m also hoping today that we’ll get a better idea of when Celine will be returning to the Colosseum.

It was in August 2009 that Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn shocked country fans by announcing that they were splitting up after their “Last Rodeo Tour.” The duo assured fans that they were still “good friends” and the mutual decision was on “good terms.”

Their final record release was in September 2008 with “#1’s and Then Some,” which featured 28 top hits and two new songs, “Indian Summer” and “Honky Tonk Stomp.” Their last concert together was in Nashville on Sept. 2, 2010, but now Las Vegas audiences have them back together for a concert run on the Strip.

Both singers have recently released solo albums surrounded with a fiery Facebook controversy about the state of radio play, which may have been the reason behind their breakup stemming from 2006 when Kix took over the radio show “American Country Countdown.”

Reba called Kix to congratulate him on winning the National Broadcast Personality of the Year award by the Country Music Association. But in a back-and-forth war of words, Ronnie told Kix: “Nothing negative about the guy in the cowboy hat. This is about the competitive environment of conglomerate radio. Kix taking over the countdown on a major conglomerate’s network was the beginning of the end for B&D.”

Kix fired back at Ronnie: “Not sure what all this is about. Thanks for the ride. Let’s break on the hate.”

I’ve interviewed Reba many times over the years. She’s a delightful, effervescent and charming lady, so when I sit with her later this morning, I’ll dig into the reunion and find out how she engineered them getting back together and how she won them for her Caesars residency.

Reba, 59, has had an extraordinary career as singer-songwriter, record and TV producer and actress. She starred on Broadway in “Annie Get Your Gun” and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a TV series for “Reba,” which ran from 2001 to 2007.

She was a college sophomore in 1975 when she signed her first record contract and released her first solo album in 1977. She won the Country Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year for the first time in 1984. She’s gone on to sell more than 80 million albums and is one of the bestselling artists of all time in all music genres.

Today’s announcement coincides with the 2014 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in town. Her father and grandfather were champion steer ropers, and her father was world champion in 1957, 1958 and 1961. He died in October at age 86, three years after suffering a stroke.

The trio will feel comfortable at Caesars Palace: Brooks & Dunn have performed shows with Reba numerous times in addition to their song collaborations. We’ll post my interviews with all three later today in an update to this story, along with concert dates, ticket-sales information and other news from the Caesars Palace press conference.

I wonder who Shania will introduce as the artist beginning at The Colosseum in January?

Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn New Vegas Headliners

LAS VEGAS — Dec 3, 2014, 4:25 PM ET

By KIMBERLY PIERCEALL, Associated Press

Country icons Reba McEntire and Brooks & Dunn are joining forces to become the newest headliners on the Las Vegas Strip.

"Cake and ice cream are good, but when you put 'em together, it's even better," McEntire said at a news conference announcing the trio's residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace starting June 24.

The three bantered like the "best friends" McEntire said they were, describing a dinner about six months ago when the idea cropped up and Ronnie Dunn said, "heck, let's do it."

Their people talked with Caesars and co-producer AEG Live, and the plan was worked out in the last two months.

"It's magic," Reba said of how their on-stage reunion in the 4,000-seat venue came about.

The show, "Together in Vegas," includes 12 performances in June, July and December 2015.

Tickets start at $59.50 and will go on sale Dec. 4.

For McEntire, Vegas is one of the places she got her start. She opened for country legend Roy Clark in the 1980s at Caesars Palace and lost her voice after performing two shows a night for six nights.

Kix Brooks said he and Ronnie Dunn would often end tours in Vegas.

McEntire is a two-time Grammy winner with 35 No. 1 hits and a litany of country music awards to her name. She has since branched out into TV, starring in the sitcom "Reba" and "Malibu Country."

She's recording new songs, too, a first in more than five years.

Brooks & Dunn performed together for 20 years, releasing their first album in 1991, before pursuing solo careers most recently. Known for hits including "Boot Scootin' Boogie," ''Only in America," and "My Maria," the duo has also won two Grammy awards and dozens of country music honors.

McEntire has toured with the country duo before, and the trio tougher recorded "Cowgirls Don't Cry."

"The hijinks are unnamable," McEntire said of their tours in the 1990s.

The trio revealed little about their production's plans, including an as-yet-undecided set-list, except to say it would be filled with each of their greatest hits.

"Nothing in cement, yet," McEntire said.

"He's going to be the flash and sparkle," she joked of Dunn.

The announcement comes as the National Finals Rodeo returns to Las Vegas this week and the area becomes a destination for country fans.

The Colosseum is home to another country music powerhouse, Shania Twain, until mid-December. Other rotating headliners at the Colosseum include Rod Stewart, Elton John and Celine Dion.

Dion, though, announced in August that she needed to cancel all shows scheduled through March to focus on her health, her husband's recovery from a cancerous tumor, and raising her three children.

Celine Dion’s return to Caesars Palace is delayed again

By Robin Leach | Dec. 4, 2014 | 4:57 p.m.

On Dec. 17, Caesars Palace superstar headliner Celine Dion and her husband and former longtime manager Rene Angelil will celebrate their 20th anniversary at home here in Lake Las Vegas with their three children, Rene-Charles, Nelson and Eddy, but they’re both coping with his throat cancer problems.

“His ordeal has brought us even closer. Rene and I are more in love than ever,” Celine, 46, told Hello Canada Magazine. “We complete each other.”

Rene’s throat cancer and Celine’s vocal chord problems have delayed her hoped-for return to the Colosseum at Caesars. She had aimed to be back onstage at the end of March. It was pushed back to May, and I’m now hearing for the first time that it might be even later than that.

The blank dates had to be filled, which helps explain the new residency of Reba McEntire and Brooks & Dunn, especially because Shania Twain starts her final week of her contract shows on Saturday. A second female act is to be added in January, and when those dates are set, we’ll know when Celine has decided to return.

Meantime, there were a few nuggets left over in my notebook from Wednesday’s Q+A with Reba, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn:

“There’s nobody we’d rather hang out with, sing and perform with than Reba,” said the duo. “We took the break after being together for 20 years. We just wanted to do some things where you’re not always checking in with the other. It was time to get out by ourselves.

“There was no hate, just differences in opinion. We’ve always considered ourselves brothers more than friends. The reason we made it 20 years was because we’ve never been afraid to express our differences of opinions to each other.

“When we were all touring together, we were on the road with 21 semis and 19 buses. It was a big entourage of stuff, so we’re looking forward to being in one place for a while without all that equipment. We always ended our tours in Las Vegas so we could wind down afterward. It was a great place to have our crew and their families all hang out.”

Reba told me that the first time they started talking about what would go into the show was at dinner in Rao’s at Caesars on Tuesday, the night before the announcement.

“We couldn’t agree on one thing,” she laughed. “We call it work for right now, but it’s going to be more fun than work.”

I know a lot of people are going to have varied opinions on this, but I'm going to say it anyway.

It is kind of a bittersweet feeling I have about Shania leaving Vegas. I loved that she was at Caesars for the two years, because it allowed her to grow and regain confidence in performing and recording again. However, I don't want her to go, only because I feel like she really helped make Vegas more than a "career slow down" type of town for singers. It used to be that residencies were only offered and finalized for artists who were done with their careers. Recent photos of the studio, and writing make me think Shania is truly not done.

Since Shania started in December of 2012, several current artists performed residencies or consecutive shows in Vegas.

  • Faith Hill and Tim McGraw's "Soul2Soul" show.
  • Fall Out Boy's six shows at the Cosmopolitan in 2013 and 2014 (3 shows each year)
  • Just Timberlake's four consecutive nights at MGM in 2014
  • Britney's "Piece Of Me" show at Planet Hollywood
  • Rascal Flatts' upcoming "Riot" residency at Hard Rock Las Vegas
  • Reba and Brooks & Dunn's upcoming "Together In Vegas" residency.

I'm not saying Shania was the only reason. There was Garth Brooks before her. However, it had been eight long years since Shania had sang live. People were eager to see her and still are. She drew a lot of attention to resident performing, in my opinion. Millions of people still are very fond of Shania (no that is not a stretch).

On the other hand, I can't wait for her to leave Vegas because I want to see what is next for her. She has thought heavily about taking a show out on the road. (Whether it is a Vegas road show or a new show, is obviously still unknown but she has plans for something). The new album (keeping fingers crossed). Radio people are also not ruling Shania out, so that is a positive sign.

I guess it is all really hard to believe that two years ago this past Monday, I sat in the VERY back of the audience on Shania's very first opening night. For me, there were a lot of well made memories and I only saw the show in Vegas twice. (I think one fan said he will see her in Vegas three more times - amounting to 26 'Still The One' shows).

Being a fan so long, it was neat to be a part of the beginning of a new chapter in her career.
