Shania on "ET Canada" - 9/22/14 - Talks Taylor Swift and new album

'I Think Everybody's Loving It': Shania Twain Talks Taylor Swift's Switch To Pop

By KATE MORAWETZ 9/22/2014 at 2:37 PM ET

This weekend, Shania Twain hit the red carpet for the Bliss Ball in Toronto.  The annual event supports the Dilawri Foundation, which advocates and raises funds to help support medical research, hospitals, children and families in need.

The Canadian country legend opened up about why this event is so close to her heart.  "When I was a kid, I was underprivileged and faced a lot of challenges," said Shania. "I always promised myself that someday, if I made it, I would come back and give back to kids like myself."

Something else the singer was happy to discuss? Her new album!

"I've been doing a lot of writing over the last year and I'm getting into the studio now," she said, adding, "I'll spend this whole year making the album."

Treading the line between country and pop music for many years herself, the superstar also shared her thoughts on Taylor Swift's new musical direction.

"I think that everybody should just follow their heart and do their artistic best, and just enjoy their creativity," said the Canadian country star.

"[Taylor]'s a singer-songwriter-performer, she does it all, and I think that the world is her oyster, she's young and she needs to just do whatever she's having fun at and I think everybody's loving it."

Watch more with Shania Twain from the Bliss Ball red carpet below and tune in to ET Canada tonight at 7:30 pm ET for more with Shania!

Video will only play in Canada.

RE: Shania on "ET Canada" - September 22

At what point will the producer be announced?  After the album or soon?

"I'll spend this whole year making the album."

What year is she talking about? This year? Next year? Because she only has one month left this year to get into the studio.

um if we can take shania's word for it then she is in the studio making the album now. I would think if she or her management have any common sense she would have it ready for release next November at the latest. It would be nice for a release in spring but that isn't happening lol

I think she means 2015, after Vegas. I think we won't have a new album at least til the end of 2015. At least.

Shania Twain Gives Taylor Swift's Pop Direction a Thumbs-Up

By Danielle Anderson 09/23/2014 AT 02:30 PM EDT

Taylor Swift officially made the switch from country to pop with her new album 1989 – and she has the blessing of "The Queen of Country Pop" herself.

"I think that everybody should just follow their heart and do their artistic best, and just enjoy their creativity," Shania Twain told ET Canada at the recent Bliss Ball in Toronto, which supports The Dilawri Foundation.

"[Taylor]'s a singer-songwriter-performer, she does it all ... the world is her oyster. She's young and she needs to just do whatever she's having fun at and I think everybody's loving it," said the singer, whose 1997 album, Come On Over, became the best-selling studio album of all time by a female act in any genre, as well as the best-selling country album of all time.

Twain, 49, is also currently working on a new album. "I've been doing a lot of writing over the last year and I'm getting into the studio now," she said, "I'll spend this whole year making the album."

Shania Twain on Taylor Swift’s Pop Switch: ‘The World Is Her Oyster’

By Christina Vinson | September 26, 2014

Shania Twain knows success — especially success in multiple genres. Dubbed the Queen of Country Pop, Twain is one of the most commercially successful artists of all time. And she’s applauding country-pop crossover Taylor Swift on her switch into the pop world.

“I think that everybody should just follow their heart and do their artistic best, and just enjoy their creativity,” Twain tells ET Canada. “[Taylor]‘s a singer-songwriter-performer, she does it all … the world is her oyster. She’s young and she needs to just do whatever she’s having fun at and I think everybody’s loving it.”

The 49-year-old took her own advice on following her heart and retired from performing in 2004, eventually immersing herself back into life onstage through her critically acclaimed show ‘Still the One’ at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Twain’s time there will draw to a close in December, and she’ll concentrate on the album she’s promised fans and made good headway on. Excitingly, she’s also looking at touring!

While Twain follows her heart back into the realm of country music, she knows what it’s like to have the world as her oyster, and she readily supports Swift in her decision to move to 100 percent pop.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the ‘Shake It Off’ hitmaker’s new album — her first self-declared official pop record — and according to one of the lucky attendees at her ’1989′ listening party, it’s not just another pop record.

Journalist Chris Willman chronicled his experience listening to Swift’s album on Twitter, hilariously writing, “Just heard @taylorswift13‘s album. It’s not just ‘more pop.’ It’s so gloriously pop, it makes ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ sound like the Judds.”

So … there’s that.

Swift’s new album streets Oct. 27, and although it won’t be filled with country delights like ‘Tim McGraw’ and ‘Teardrops on My Guitar,’ one thing’s sure: she’ll be having fun and following her heart.
