Shania Twain’s 5 Most Iconically Stylish Music Videos

O.G. country-pop queen Shania Twain is not just under-appreciated as an artist but also as a pioneer of groundbreaking fashion. While many artists take the viewer on a different cohesive visual adventure with each consecutive video, Shania is more frequently credited for her feminist lyrics rather than her outfits. And rightly so. But that doesn’t mean her music videos should so frequently be overlooked as a source of inspiration for Halloween costumes that still make you look hot. Here are five Shania videos that prove she is a fearless sartorial chameleon. Eat your heart out, T-Swizzle.

1. “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” (2003)
Besides this being a third wave feminist anthem, it’s also a formidable case for vintage-influenced androgyny. Shania also demonstrates a range of ways to wear this look, ranging from complete coverage with a full-length flasher coat to an open button-up and liberal cleavage. Stripping has rarely looked so sophisticated.

2. “From This Moment” (1998)
What kind of ethereal merwoman? Velvet and halternecks have never since been combined in such a mesmerizing way, and this wet-look hairstyle looks straight off the Spring 2015 runways. The only thing we could maybe do without is the bindi, but this was before celebrities knew what cultural appropriation was. Who’d knock Shania when Gwen wore this in the exact same year?

3. “That Don’t Impress Me Much” (1998)
This late ’90s classic is a visual investigation of the age-old question, “how much leopard is too much leopard?” The answer is that the limit does not exist. Yes, even if 90% of it is velour. Sex and the City 2 often gets credit for nailing desert chic, but really that acolade should go to Shania. Actually this music video is better than that entire movie.

4. “I’m Gonna Getcha Good!” (2002)
The lyrics and transformer monsters are a little creepy, but the fashion is so on-point. No one does a sheer full-body jumpsuit like Shania (see here). 2014 might have been the year of the naked dress, but the naked jumpsuit kicks that to the curb. At the risk of being assassinated by the Beygency, I’d say she’d even pull off Beyoncé’s 2014 Met Gala look better than Beyoncé pulled off Beyoncé’s 2014 Met Gala look. *runs and hides*

5. “Any Man of Mine” (1995)
There are only three people who pulled off ’90s denim better than Kate Moss in Calvin Klein, and that’s Edele and Keavy Lynch from B*Witched and Shania Twain. The full effect of this iconic outfit might be too much awesome for 2015 to handle, but its individual components are timeless.
