New to this forum, I used to be active on Shania sites when I was younger - she was my biggest idol growing up; I was fortunate enough to see her during the "Up!" tour and also got to see her band's sound check. The "big" event however was getting her autograph and (semi)meeting her when she hosted Canada AM.
I'm at a bit of a crossroads now with this tour, I'm trying to decide whether or not to attend the final Toronto show. Truthfully, I feel disappointed with this farewell tour. From what I've read, the show is very Vegas-y, I've been looking at photos and it doesn't even seem like the Shania I grew up with. Granted, of course, people change and mature, but I was really hoping the audience would get to see more of Shania in the raw; correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems audience interaction also isn't what it used to be.
When it comes to the set list, I feel like they took a "mass market" approach - it's the Shania songs more or less anyone would know; particularly with this being a 'final' tour, I was hoping for a longer set list and I was really, really hoping there'd be opportunity to hear her sing some of the songs that weren't singles in North America - she has so much extraordinary music (Thank You Baby, I'm Jealous, I ain't goin' down, When, Is there Life After Love... the list goes on) - I guess I just feel like the set list wasn't catered to the audience that's (patiently) followed her all these years.
What do you guys think?
I hope it doesn't come across like I did this post just to "bash" her - I didn't; I wanted to see if anyone else felt the way I did and to perhaps hear if I was wrong about anything. Maybe it's silly to think so much into this but this is the singer that was a big part of my life growing up, and if this is my last shot to see her live again, it is a tough decision to make (I'm a student, the bank count doesn't really go 'ka-ching').
I haven't been to a concert yet but I agree it is very Vegas-like minus the stupid dancers. As far as the setlist, she should have opened it up a little instead of going the strictly "greatest hits" route. Again, like Vegas.

I know the feeling. I've been to Vegas two times, but I'm not gonna fly half across the globe again to see het live. I've seen it already and it's just too expensive to go again. I'd love to see the show though, and if she'd perform in Europe I'd go.
On the Up! tour I didn't buy tickets. "I'll go next time". Well, it appeared there was no next time, and I've regretted not buying tickets for the Up! tour ever since. If you think you might like to go, just go. The things we regret most in life are the things we missed out on.
Okay, it's a shame if you got, buy the ticket and think it was a waste of money afterwards. But it's 'only money'. Money can't buy memories, so you make sure you make them while you have the chance!

Welcome to the boards. I think the reason the set list is what it is is because she did not want take too much time before setting out on the tour. She only rehearsed the tour for two weeks if she had done a whole new set list it would have taken her longer to rehearse and get the tour ready...everything seems to be just like Vegas. She only redid the costumes lost the dancers and is singing all of some of the songs she only sang part of during the campfire scene or at least that is what I'm gathering. She didn't want to have to wait until next year to start the tour and if she had done all new set list it would have pushed the tour later and new music later and it seems she wants to get it all done before she turns 50 or by the end of the year at least. It's like she's set this time constraint on herself to do all this stuff before the end of the year. Hard to tell why.
She's said before something like "When I go to a concert I want to hear the hits," so that's how she's doing her set list. I feel like that was her approach on Up, too - by the end of the tour (my show was in the last few of the tour), she had cut almost every song from Up - and she was promoting Up! I don't necessarily need to hear some of the hits again.
I think rehearsing was part of it, but she got a lot of new band members that had to learn all the songs anyway. Cory knows (knew) the songs, and Shan knows the songs, so even changing the set list shouldn't be that hard. At least, that's what I'd think.
