***As far as the setlist in Europe, I think it will be basically the same. Back in July during an Instagram Live session, Re'Sean Pates (dancer) said he'll be singing "Forever And For Always" with Shania. "Soldier" will most likely be dropped in favor of a song popular in Europe like "Ka-Ching!" That will probably be about it as far as changes to the setlist.

Apparently the weather is pretty bad in Glasgow and public transportation is being affected. Some people can't get to the concert. ALL trains are cancelled.

Shania Twain gig to go ahead as 80mph winds hit Glasgow

The storm don't impress her much!

By Jennifer Russell | Glasgow Live | September 19, 2018

Despite 80mph winds battering Glasgow, the show must go on for Shania Twain as she is set to take to the stage tonight.

The Canadian singer tweeted fans to say she was excited for the first stop on her UK tour tonight in Glasgow.

Bosses at the SSE Hydro have warned fans to take extra care when travelling to the venue and to take extra time as there's travel disruption on roads and railways.

As reported on Glasgow Live, Shania kicks off her tour tonight and will be onstage around 8.45pm.

The 53-year-old will have two support acts for the evening - singer Bastian Baker and country duo The Shires.

Bastian Baker takes to the stage at 7.30pm and The Shires will be onstage around 8pm.

Doors open at 6.30pm for all the die-hard fans, and Shania will grace us with her presence at 8.45pm, closing the show at 10.45pm.

Let's go girls (and guys)!

Shania Twain dedicates song to Glasgow as she dazzles SSE Hydro crowds with outfit changes, old favourites and boundless energy

Bouncing onto the stage in a glitzy black dress and cowgirl hat, the Canadian songstress wasted no time getting reacquainted with her Scottish fans

By Mikhaila Friel | The Scottish Sun | September 19 2018

Country legend Shania Twain made the ultimate comeback in Glasgow tonight as she kicked off her first UK tour in thirteen years at the SSE Hydro.

Bouncing onto the stage in a glitzy black dress and cowgirl hat, the Canadian songstress wasted no time getting reacquainted with her Scottish fans.

But it turned out Shania’s truth wasn’t limited to the tear-jerkers, as the 53-year-old launched into fan favourite That Don’t Impress Me Much – even changing into her signature leopard print for the occasion.

After more than a decade out of the limelight, the hitmaker’s energy was still as contagious as ever.

The only time she stopped to sit down was during soulful track I’m Alright.

And the star made sure to dedicate love ballad You’re Still The One to her original fanbase as well as the younger faces in the crowd.

She said: “A lot of people I see in concerts these days would have been six years old during my first ever concerts.

“So I wanted to thank all of you for still being here. This is your song, Glasgow.”

After tonight’s timeless performance, the songstress could go on hiatus for another thirteen years – and her fans would be right here waiting for her.

I wonder why they both quit. And I'm sad she treats Europe as the second sort singing much less songs than she did it the US.

After all these years I expected at least the same original american setlist.
I'm very, very, very disappointed.
It's the Now Tour and she cut off two Now songs. This era better be off soon... Nobody ever care about this album. She never care.

This makes me so sad. Soldier and let's kiss and make up were my favorite that she performed (saw her in Tacoma and Vancouver). I'm going to her Stockholm show and was so excited to hear them again!

what a bunch of bitching European fans 🤤 by all accounts she put on a great show for fans and her reviews are great. So she played a couple less songs on her first show, she has two opening acts. Be thankful she is touring again and putting on a great show. Always something to bitch about lol

You have to admit Europe is getting screwed with that setlist. She could have at least replaced one song.

Review: Shania Twain wows Glasgow crowd with unexpected SSE Hydro entrance

By Stacey Mullen | The Herald | September 20, 2018

Verdict: Four stars

IN her nineties hit, there wasn’t much that impressed Shania Twain.

The same, however, can’t be said for her Glasgow audience who were clearly taken aback by her unexpected entrance.

For the singer kicked off the European leg of her tour in style - by making her entrance in the middle of the audience.

The stunning star then greeted her adoring fans as she strutted up to the stage wearing a glittery thigh split dress, complete with a sparkling cowgirl hat.

She teased: “Are you ready Glasgow?” as she launched the first of two city shows with new track Life Is About To Get Good.

Come on Over and Up followed but lacked the wow factor of her entrance.

The vivacious singer, however, more than made up for it when she delivered the hits which first propelled her into the worldwide spotlight, Don’t Be Stupid (You Know I Love You) and That Don’t Impress Me Much. She even wore a leopard print ensemble for the occasion.

Like most worldwide stars who roll into town, she boasted about her links to Scotland, beaming that she has a Scottish manager before demanding the Scots live up to their reputation as the best audience in the world.

And they did just that especially when the show turned a little bit more country as Shania brought a taste of Nashville to Glasgow with country pop hits Any Man of Mine and Honey I’m Home.

Ballad You’re Still The One was a highlight as Shania showed off her vocal talents with a stripped down performance.

Chatty Shania continued to make her show intimate by involving the fans. A rarity for some artists of her calibre, the Canadian took time to speak to fans, and even posed for a selfie or two with a lucky few.

The ballads continued with From This Moment which exposed the uniqueness of Shania’s tone while Man! I Feel Like A Woman was a showstopper.

Shania is fun, likeable, beautiful and produces great country pop music. She lives up to expectation with her live shows and while her new music does not strike the same chord as the hits of Come On Over, she has produced a wealth of songs to keep her fans loyal.

Shania will return to the SSE Hydro on Friday.

People buy the tickets to see HER, not her opening acts. I don't care who sings there. And of course people want to see the show they expect to see given the fact that there are a lot of videos and photos in the Internet. The show lacks two dancers for some reason, minus 3 songs and she no longer flies above the audience on the guitarcase. That's not that type of show she showed in the US. And she always sings less songs at the end of the tour. I'm attending the show in Stockholm - should I prepare to hear 15-16 songs and be thankful? I think it's unfair to treat some fans better than the others.

Country legend Shania Twain kicks off tour in Glasgow - and talks Storm Ali

GLASGOW witnessed the spectacle of a lifetime with the arrival of country legend Shania Twain’s highly-anticipated tour.

By Aftab Ali | East Lothian Courier | September 20, 2018

Kickstarting her 18-date European tour in Scotland’s biggest city on Wednesday night, the icon delivered a spellbinding show, performing hits “I’m Gonna Getcha Good!”, “Up!”, “That Don’t Impress Me Much”, “You’re Still The One”, “Life’s About To Get Good” and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman”.

Returning to the stage in Europe after 15 years away, the 53-year-old gushed over the Glasgow audience - and even spoke of Storm Ali which battered Scotland the whole of Wednesday.

The Canadian said it was “very windy” and that the windows of her hotel room were “shaking” through the night.

She then added: “I know there have been train cancellations and all that stuff, but I’m just so happy you’re here. We’re getting through it together.”

Performing to a sold out SSE Hydro, Shania said: “I’m proud of my music and I want to share it with as many people as possible in the greatest show I’ve ever done”.

She also invited a member of the audience up on stage with her, an Emma from Fort William but who now lives in Glasgow.

She also picked a mother-and-daughter duo to take selfies with, telling the pair: “Let’s go, girls.”

They both told the singer they took “a risk” and drove through the bad weather to be in Glasgow.

“Who wouldn’t take the gamble to drive through that to see Shania Twain?”, said the mum, much to the audience’s delight.

The NOW show boasted 12-foot, larger-than-life, moving LED cubes that peaked at 30-feet height from the stage, while 4,375 lighting cues dazzled the audience.

Ever the stunning diva, elegant and stylish, Shania’s team said over 10,000 Swarovski crystal stones and 16 yards of sequin fabric have been used in her wardrobe.

The country singer will take to the stage at the Hydro again on Friday night before moving onto Manchester on Saturday and Birmingham on Monday.

Shania Twain stuns in naked-illusion lycra catsuit as she kicks off UK tour

SHANIA Twain kicked off her UK tour in style last night.

By Jack Hardwick / Published 20th September 2018

The iconic singer, who release her fifth album Now last year, took to the stage in Glasgow in a range of barely there outfits.

Leaving as little to the imagination as possible the You're Still The One songstress belted out some of her biggest hits at the The SSE Hydro.

For one segment of the show, Shania slipped into a skin-tight lycra catsuit.

Featuring nude panels, the outfit made it appear the 53-year-old was flashing far more flesh than she was.

In fact, if it wasn't for the purple patterning on the garment, fans would have thought Shania was totally naked.

Meanwhile, as she sang global smash That Don't Impress Me Much, Shania slipped into a daring leopard print dress.

Thanks to two large cuts up the front, the chart-topper allowed her killer pins to take centre stage.

Risking a wardrobe malfunction at any moment, the singer danced up a storm on the stage causing the material to shift and barely cover her most intimate area.

n fact, as she strutted over a dry ice wind machine the back of the dress blew up and blustered in the breeze.

For Man! I Feel Like a Woman, Shania turned up her sex appeal even more with a skintight black number and thigh-high heels.

Shania's Now tour and album mark a spatular comeback for the pop superstar after she lost her voice due to lyme disease.

Now only was she forced to put her career on ice for over a decade, Shania saw the breakdown of her marriage after her best friend ‘stole her husband’ from her.

Speaking to the Guardian, she said: "I never thought I’d sing again.

"Lyme disease can be so much more devastating. It can go to your brain."

Chatting in the US about how she picked her comeback song, she added: "I wasn't just broken I was shattered – thy are the first words of the single.

"It is about bad stuff but also about seeing the life at the end of the tunnel.

"I chose it as it tells the truth about where I have I been and where I am now."

Shania Twain review – barnstorming, thigh-slapping spectacular

Brash staging, old-school charisma and a bulletproof back catalogue power an energetic performance from the Canadian superstar

By Graeme Virtue | The Guardian | September 20, 2018

4 out of 5 stars

Her 2017 comeback album was titled Now, but Shania Twain is taking a moment to revisit the past. Thanks to large-scale technical wizardry, the Canadian superstar can channel-surf through promos from her 90s imperial phase, each sumptuous, golden-hour visual (a smorgasbord of beaches, stallions and covetable knitwear) projected on to a gigantic white leopard-print curtain. “I used to be able to do backflips in my videos,” she says, with mock regret. “So that’s fun to look back on.”

It is one of the quieter, funnier moments in this two-hour spectacular. The packed opening night of Twain’s first UK tour since 2004 is an impressively barnstorming, thigh-slapping, eye-searing revue that marries her bulletproof back catalogue with a cautious sprinkle of new material. In the 15-year break between album releases, Twain has overcome illness, endured the tabloids pecking over the breakdown of her marriage to producer Mutt Lange and witnessed Taylor Swift’s deft cover version of her country-pop crossover career.

Yet she also kept her hand in as a performer, notably with a long and successful Vegas residency, so Twain is hip to what a modern crowd expect from a big arena show. That means absurdly over-the-top staging, multiple costume changes into knockout outfits and carefully stage-managed moments of advice, reflection and personal connection. Basically, an energised, well-sequenced square dance through a pop canon so fully loaded that she can toss out That Don’t Impress Me Much – a strident, sonic tattoo burned into a billion brainpans – as an early highlight.

Even the pensive new song Poor Me, which deals with her ex-husband’s cheating, gets injected with unexpected grandeur: Twain performs alongside an interpretive dance hologram that sprouts into a 30ft giant. Everything is big, brash and an absolute smash, with Twain backed by a quartet of unflagging dancers plus a five-piece band who smoothly cycle through violins, squeezeboxes and guitars as required.

For all the visual razzmatazz – including some nifty sleight of hand during the upbeat Don’t Be Stupid (You Know I Love You) that makes it look as if Twain’s backing troupe are performing a fleet-footed Riverdance on the surface of swimming pools – the 53-year-old star is never overshadowed, even by the enormous hologram. Twain radiates an old-school charisma that complements the maximalist staging, seeming relatable even as she sings from the top of a floating pyramid created by roving cubes.

Those cubes reorientate to transform the Hydro stage into a pristine but fairly atmospheric spit-and-sawdust roadhouse, with Twain switching to a full Westworld, black-leather cowboy outfit for an energetic line dance to Any Man of Mine and the hoedown showdown Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under? For the build-up to the relatively stripped-back You’re Still the One, Twain plucks some fans from the audience and artfully extracts heartwarming anecdotes before gamely posing for a selfie.

If there is a game, she is absolutely on top of it. Even a slight dip in energy toward the end – where her hunky Swiss support act Bastian Baker reappears for the seduction duet Party for Two – feels like a necessary breather before a triumphant Man! I Feel Like a Woman, its aggressive clapback synth hook the equivalent of plugging the crowd into the mains. Pointedly, there is no encore; Twain knows when her work is done.

I think it's unfair to treat some fans better than the others.

I agree she should treat all the fans the same.  maybe she couldn"t fly over the audience in this venue for some reason. I also agree two opening acts are stupid when people have a hard time waiting through one opening act to see Shania. There must be some reason she changed up her performance a bit from North America.

It is true. She should treat everyone the same way. Didn’t know she was not flying.
As she is not singing live (98%) it is really my nice for cutting off threee songs without replacing by hits in Europe. (As Playback it should be not a big deal) Germany mostly know her for kaching and FaFa

I mean most of the attendees of the show do not look up what she sang before. But I don’t see the reason for the shortage
I payed thousands of euros for the shows and bringing many friends

Also it was the start. Si she can not be tired. Let’s see what will happen endbut she should make some kaching (song and money)

I wonder if the first show in Glasgow has only been a transition show... that "lots of changes and a fresh production" are making me think tomorrow's show could be different.

Anyway... Ka-Ching! is SOOOOOO cool!!!

I don't think tomorrow's concert will be different. I'm sure the changes and fresh production Allison is talking about were in place last night. I mean it wasn't the same concert that was in North America. Why would tomorrow's (or future) concert be different than last night? They had 6 weeks to get ready for the European leg.

I tweeted Allison if Rock This Country will be added back to the setlist and she liked it... I wonder if it's a yes.

Looks like Shania Twain made it after visit to Glasgow bar

SHANIA TWAIN might have had dinner at Buck’s chicken restaurant but she admitted to me that she didn’t eat any birds on the night - because she’s a vegetarian.

Shania checked into her City Centre hotel around 7pm on Monday along with her five guitars and crew ahead of their two-night run at the SSE Hydro.

She had snuck through a side door at her hotel and I actually thought initially she’d gone to bed – maybe 'cause she was still on transatlantic time.

But then, a little tipster told me she’d gone for some dinner at Buck’s Bar and was still there.

I ran and after a wee bit of waiting around I spoke to her as she walked outside with her crew.

She was a lovely gal, so down to Earth.

She told me she’d just been in Glasgow two hours and that she hadn’t had a chance to explore but was looking forward to spending the next four days here.

When I asked her how her chicken dinner was, and admitted I thought she was veggie, she laughed. “Yes, most of us are vegetarian, but there was still plenty for us to enjoy.”

I have it on good authority that the much impressed Shania enjoyed vegan option The Umami Tsunami – crispy tofu with a miso mushroom sauce, and salad in honey lime dressing.

The singer also drank a couple glasses of Sauvignon Blanc and her pals enjoyed some pints of Drygate Gladeye IPA each.

The rest of the party also indulged in Thai Style Hot Wings and Halloumi Nuggets with 25 ingredient BBQ dip.

A spokesperson for the bar said later: “Funny thing is that she was served by our Canadian waitress, Sadie.

As Shania was leaving, Sadie turned round to her manager and said ‘that woman looks a bit like Shania Twain. No-one in the place recognised her.”

After Shania posted up a picture of her toilet trip with the signs reading C0cks for men and Hens for women, some cheeky fans wondered if she’d change the name of her famous song to “C0ck, I feel like a Hen.”

Seeing her standing outside the loos, another joked: “Looks like she made it.”

Tonight's concert was the same as Wednesday. "Ka-Ching!" interlude and ended with "MIFLAW". She didn't sing "Rock This Country!".

Music review: Shania Twain

By Fiona Shepherd | The Scotsman | September 22, 2018

THE opening date of Shania Twain’s first European tour in 15 years was a night of 10,000 rhinestones, a big-budget 21st century pop take on the classic country ornamentation of the ’60s and ’70s but with none of the accompanying storytelling flair or kitchen sink melodrama.

Hydro, Glasgow ***

Twain has had her share of personal dramas in the interim years, battling illness and vocal problems, and says she has turned to music to cheer herself up, hence the banal escapism of curtain raiser Life’s About To Get Good and the subsequent production line of mid-paced manicured country pop numbers, making no great demands on the listener.

The Now tour is a restless, techy collage of moving stages, costume changes and visual trickery. Yet, for all the production values, the show lacked fun and character until Twain rolled out her wittiest track, That Don’t Impress Me Much, an impish symphony in signature leopardskin, and broke from its slick choreography to engage in some ad hoc interaction with audience members.

Her multi-tasking band, dancers and backing singers worked like Trojans to maintain a smooth swan-like surface for Twain to glide on, below which the more traditional bluegrass and zydeco flavours of her music fought a losing battle against the arena rock pomp of some of the song arrangements.

Her big blah ballads You’re Still The One and From This Moment On presumably hit the spot for those who like that sort of thing, but there were further longueurs on the road to climactic party anthem Man! I Feel Like a Woman!

Review: Shania Twain at Manchester Arena

The Canadian superstar comes to Manchester with a sophisticated and classy show

By Danielle Roper | Manchester Evening News | September 23, 2018

Shania Twain: 3 out of 5 stars

You've got to love an artist who sang about being a woman in a pop world where Girl Power was touted as the ultimate aspiration for half of the population.

For there is nothing girlish about the world-weary lyrics of country music, and although the sassy Canadian multi-platinum selling superstar's latest Now album in particular is distinctly pop infused, it tells the story of someone who has seen it all and come out on top, and what is more irresistible than that?

Erupting onto the stage in a glittering slit to the thigh black dress and cowgirl hat, the 53-year-old kicks off her first show in Manchester in 13 years with new album track Life’s About to Get Good. But to tell us who she's become she needs to remind us of who she was and Up!, one of a handful of heroes from her golden back catalogue, and sung, appropriately, from atop a series of leopard print cubes, does just that.

Poor Me, a lament penned following her high-profile divorce from cheating ex-husband and producer Mutt Lange, is next and is a surprising high point. Then comes a biggie with Don’t Be Stupid, a track that gets everyone on their feet.

That Don’t Impress Me Much should be up there in the top three songs of the night but somehow feels a bit rushed, which is a shame.

Delivering more what is expected of them are romantic smash You're Still The One, the perfect hoedown tune Any Man Of Mine and the bouncy Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under. Shania looks every inch the country queen in her third of seven outfits of the evening comprised of black taffeta and red glittery stiletto boots but, although surrounded by incredibly high energy musicians and dancers, the star still seems to be conserving hers somewhat.

What she lacks in energy, she makes up with some entertaining audience interaction but the crowd are still waiting for that ultimate concert buzz.

New tracks Swingin' With My Eyes Closed and (If You're Not In Love) I’m Outta Here! pave the way and there is suddenly a bit more za za zoom in the room.

Then, better late than never, it comes, THAT longed for point in the show with what has to be THE Shania anthem: Man! I Feel Like A Woman, the only time the night truly lifts off.

This is a sophisticated production for sure. It just lacks a little of the grit you expect from country somehow. Shania's vocals could do with a little injection of oomph sometimes too and it is definitely more show than substance at times but, thanks in no small part to some excellent musicians, a fabulous female drummer and female violinist among them, it is unarguably a good one and Shania fans leave happy.

Setlist:

  • Life's About To Get Good
  • Come on Over
  • Up!
  • Poor Me
  • Don’t Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)
  • That Don’t Impress Me Much
  • Any Man of Mine
  • Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under
  • Honey I'm Home
  • I’m Alright
  • You’re Still The One
  • More Fun
  • From This Moment On
  • I’m Gonna Getcha Good
  • Party For Two (with Bastian Baker)
  • Swingin' With My Eyes Closed
  • (If You're Not In Love) I’m Outta Here!
  • Man! I Feel Like A Woman

Shania Twain, Arena Birmingham - review

By Kirsten Rawlins | Express and Star | September 25, 2018

She’s renowned for her strong vocals, beauty and catchy tunes - and last night Canadian Queen of Country Pop gave fans everything they could have hoped for and more at her stunning Birmingham show.

Now 53, Shania put on a tremendous concert to thousands upon thousands of adoring music lovers alongside a wonderful band and with an array of costume changes.

She may have been in the music industry for more than 30 years, but the stunning star looked incredible throughout her two-hour set, donning bodysuits, dresses, hats, and huge heels as she sang hit after beloved hit.

And her voice remained faultless for the entirety of the show, her pitch-perfect vocals boasting excellent strength and seemingly effortless range; all while dancing alongside her backing troupe on many of the numbers.

The set itself was mesmerising, as Shania and her talented group of musicians and dancers performed both on stage and above huge moving cubes bearing animated graphics - at one point, even the drummer was high up in the air, as dancers carried out well-choreographed routines tens of metres above the stage.

“From my little town in Canada, I know that I’ve really made it a long way up to be here in Birmingham,” said Shania.

“I’m a long way from home, but it feels so at home for me here."

“Walking around here today it was so beautiful. There are a lot of new buildings since I came last. You’re very lucky to live here.”

The lively audience - which was packed into what appeared to be inch of Arena Birmingham - was treated to a wide array of hits from the icon, from Up, to Don’t Be Stupid, That Don’t Impress Me Much, and I’m Gonna Getcha Good.

Shania even took to a circular platform midway through the huge crowd at one point to sing 1997 hit Still The One, wearing a light pink dress as she played acoustic guitar while the band performed with her on the main stage.

It was an extra special evening for one young man, whose family was spotted by Shania while she was on this smaller stage, as she brought him and his family up on to the platform, only to discover it was his 21st birthday present to be at the show. The star posed for pictures with the lad, named Sam, and his parents and sister, before the arena sang him Happy Birthday - without any prompt from Shania herself.

“I love what I’m doing up here because every night I get up here, you entertain me,” added Shania.

“This doesn’t feel like a job.”

The audience was shown a selection of clips from the singer’s career, shortly after she explained how creating the videos had seen her do ‘some amazing things’, including riding a stallion at the bottom of The Pyramids.

To end the incredible show, Shania donned a sparkling one-armed black bodysuit with a caped back and long black gloves, and gave a wonderful rendition of Man I Feel Like A Woman with which the whole arena danced and sang along to.

“Thank you so much Birmingham,” beamed Shania, before disappearing through a hole in the middle of the stage.

A truly tremendous evening, proving Shania Twain most certainly still has the talent she became so famous for. She’s Not Just A Pretty Face.
