Shania Twain TODAY concert: What you need to know

April 16, 2018

Shania Twain is coming to TODAY! The Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter behind the upcoming album, "Now," which will feature her hit song "Swingin' With My Eyes Closed," will rock TODAY with a performance on Rockefeller Plaza. The concert will be part of our celebration for Live Nation's National Concert Day.

Fans are speculating that Shania will release a new single to coincide with her "TODAY" show performance and "NOW" tour. That means a single would have to be released next Friday, April 27 if she plans on singing it on "TODAY". We'll have to see.

Well NOW is still new. A new single would make sense no? Also Swingin With my eyes closed was not a hit?

"Swingin" was cancelled as a single in favor of "We Got Something They Don't" which never made it onto the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

I think it would make sense to have "Who's Gonna Be Your Girl" as a single in the USA because it has already been a single in Canada and UK.
Even if I'd love to have Home Now.
But it could be possible there won't be any new single and she will perform "We Got something they don't".

As I mentioned above, "TODAY" airs 7:00-9:00am on NBC. Shania will probably be interviewed and sing 3 songs "Live" during the 8:00 hour. Then they usually air another "bonus" song (taped) during "TODAY with Kathie Lee & Hoda" at 10:00am. So she'll probably sing 2 songs from NOW and 2 classics. As for "Swingin'" being re-released, I doubt it. I don't think there will be any more singles from NOW.

Shania used a backing track for "Any Man Of Mine". "I’m Alright" was almost complete lip-synching.

They will air "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" at 10:00.

I agree, is this the plan on tour? Mostly lip synce? Also it was pretty boring to watch. She seems extremely exhausted

I'm sure she will use backing tracks on tour. I doubt it will be complete lip-synching.

I know what you mean. She doesn't seem excited or into this tour.

I'm really disapointed that she lip synched the whole show. It's so sad . It's not the same Shania from 1990s and early 2000s. She loses her voice . It'll get worse year by year...

i don't blame her either. i'd begrudge a 90 minute vocal warm-up for 12 minutes of airtime too. she probably omitted her warm-up and just attempted to sing in a register she has most control and leave the rest to track. the performances for any man and i'm alright were well done, but getcha good was choppy and awkward. tracks were in place for the chorus and pre-chorus and whenever she sang over them, her voice was very shaky. she would've gotten away with it had she just committed to the track in those places, but the contrast of live vs recorded vocals showed how much she was struggling. plus, at the three-minute mark she was late to her cue but still dared to lip sync with that same vocal a few seconds later. that would've been the moment to attempt to harmonize and make it appear like that was a backing track and not the lead vocal.

No excuse for lip syncing. Sorry that she is too irritated to bother with an extensive warm-up for all her various voice issues but this is her JOB. A job that pays her millions and millions of dollars and unlike the working stiff that actually has to work 24/7 to make ends meet at an actual job that is hard work, being a singer is a cake walk; so she can bother to make the effort to warm-up and sing live. Just lazy on her part. So she warms up for an hour. Performs for what 15 minutes? And then has the WHOLE REST OF THE DAY OFF. Yes, such a tough life....

It’s a reality that MANY performers lipsynch or use auto tune. For someone in shanias position who has vocal issues and is about to head out on a tour, I think it was smarter on her part to NOT sing live.

 100% right. I personally don't accept this form of "singing" . We fans are cheated . 

I love her , her voice but that it has already gone too far.

Shania has EVERY reason to be retired at this point. She has TONS of money and she has literally lost her voice. She CANNOT sing anymore. She is insane for pushing herself to tour like this. Where was Fred? He can't be happy that she is pushing herself like this. It doesn't make sense. She should cancel the tour. I guess I wouldn't mind seeing Shania in concert if she lip synched the whole thing, because I would just like to see her, but alot of fans wouldn't accept it. I can see how she wanted to prove something to herself when Mutt left her, but releasing a "just ok" album when you previously released incredible, hit-filled albums was a bad move. This tour is just a bad idea. It's like she's obsessed with proving something, but such a bad idea.

I think NOW is an amazing album, not just ok. But that’s all a matter of opinion. As well as the tour. I’m personally super excited to see her next week, and see her in a new stage of her life and career.

it's always interesting to watch her performance - to think which part is lipsync-ed and which part is live-singing. but it is actually a sad thing. and I am so confused for her performances and recordings in these 7 years. I dunno how much the autotune things or studio tricks helped? Is it just a computer-generated voice?

 It really doesn't matter what technique she uses. She lipsyncs and there is no doubt about it . you can easily hear in what part of the song she sings from playback. just watch/listen a few performances of the same song and you can hear exactly where it goes from the tape. for example, watch on Youtube Man I feel Like ... from Rock This Country Tour. the refrain is 100% not live . She is not longer able to sing some songs completely like Man I Feel ... Her voice od just too weak .

True supporters should embrace our idol’s limitation NOW. The mere fact that she came back and what she is doing NOW with her fans is already a gift. I am just happy that she is already active and the tour will surely be a blast! Whether there were lipsync part, autotune out there, the hell I care. Her mere presence made my day! ❤️
