The Canadian Country Music Association has announced today that Canadian country icon Shania Twain will take the stage as host of the 2018 CCMA Awards in Hamilton.
Taking place at the FirstOntario Centre on Sunday, Sept. 9, the 2018 CCMA Awards will celebrate some of the biggest names and emerging talent in country music.
“I’m so excited to host the CCMA Awards this year. It’s such a pivotal moment in country music as the industry evolves we’re seeing a new generation of deeply talented artists emerge. I look forward to being a part of the celebration of them and also celebrating some of the trailblazers before them,” explained Twain. “I’m also deeply honoured to be receiving The Generation Award this year. If I inspire anyone to embrace their creative liberty and write what they really think and feel without limitation, then that is all I can hope for. Music can bridge gaps and bring people together and we should all work together to ensure that everyone has the freedom to sing and express their truth.”
As well as hosting the awards, the five-time Grammy winner and 24-time CCMA Award winner will also accept the second-ever Generation Award, which is given to an artist who has had significant impact on the country music industry and awareness of country music around the world.

Shania Twain to host Canadian Country Music Awards in Hamilton
By David Friend | The Canadian Press | April 23, 2018
TORONTO — Shania Twain has long been a darling of the Canadian Country Music Awards, but this year she’s taking the reins as host of the big event.
The Timmins, Ont.-raised country singer has signed up to oversee the music industry celebration in Hamilton on Sept. 9.
She’ll also accept the CCMA’s Generation Award for her contributions to the country music industry.
The honour has been handed out only once before to American singer Taylor Swift, who showed up to accept the trophy in 2012.
Twain has long been a favourite of the CCMAs, garnering her first nomination in the rising star category in 1993.
A decade later she dominated the awards with her album “Up!” grabbing seven nominations in every major membership-voted category, including two for video of the year.
While this year’s nominees won’t be announced until July 11, it’s possible that Twain could grab the spotlight as a leading nominee again.
Her most recent album, “Now,” was released in September and marked her return to the studio after 15 years without a full-length release of new material.
Twain is also set to embark on her first international album tour in as many years. She starts with dates in Vancouver on May 5 and 6 before swinging by most other major Canadian cities, the United states, Europe and Australia.
The singer ignited some anger over the weekend after she claimed that she would’ve supported Donald Trump, if she was able to vote in the U.S. election.
British newspaper the Guardian ran an interview where Twain said “even though he was offensive, he seemed honest.”
After a quick backlash from some fans, she posted an apology on Twitter saying she regrets not answering with more context, and that she does “not hold any common moral beliefs with the current president.”
She said the question caught her off guard, and that she is “passionately against discrimination of any kind.”
It looks like Shania will also be performing at the Canadian Country Music Awards.
2018 Canadian Country Music Awards Performers
By Robert Lohbihler | ET Canada | May 16, 2018
From Shania Twain to Keith Urban, here are the artists who will be performing at the 2018 Canadian Country Music Awards in Hamilton, Ontario on Sunday, September 9.
In a Video clip Shania twain did say there would be some surprises for the CCMA Awards I wonder what that could be? Maybe a new single for another album? Duet maybe something else. I think she's stopped focusing on The Now album and stopped releasing songs and videos because like Tommy said the hits just ain't there. I dunno if another album late this year or next year is a good possibility.

Here is the clip you're talking about. I'm sure she will sing a song from NOW (like she sang "I'm Alright" on the TODAY show) but there's no way it will be a new single for another album. I agree the promotion of NOW is pretty much over and highly doubt there will be any more singles. Her label would have released another one by now.
As for her next album, I would say maybe in 2020 at the earliest.

Female country singers to open CCMA Awards show with Shania Twain tribute
By David Friend | The Canadian Press | August 21, 2018
TORONTO — Three of Canadian country music’s new generation of female voices are gearing up for a tribute to Shania Twain.
Jess Moskaluke, Kira Isabella and Madeline Merlo will open next month’s Canadian Country Music Association Awards with an homage to the Timmins, Ont. native, organizers announced on Tuesday.
The trio of singers will each perform one of Twain’s songs before the superstar joins them onstage to begin her hosting duties for the live broadcast. The event takes place at Hamilton’s FirstOntario Centre on Sept. 9.
It’s a “girl power” moment Moskaluke says she never dreamed would happen. She’s been a longtime Twain fan and regularly credits the country singer with giving her the confidence to pursue a music career.
“I had every album, I know every word to every song — whether it was a single or not,” Moskaluke says.
“I remember her music always being a part of my life.”
Over the past few weeks Moskaluke has been texting with Isabella and Merlo to iron out the details of their collaboration. They’ve discussed their outfits, the songs they’ll sing, and how excited they are to meet Twain for the first time.
Moskaluke will perform “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” while Merlo is down for a rendition of “Life’s About to Get Good,” Twain’s comeback single released last year. Isabella is set to offer her take on “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” one of the singer’s earlier tracks.
They’ll unite to sing “Honey, I’m Home,” a foot-stomping finish to their set.
Moskaluke, 28, grew up in Saskatchewan during the 1990s when she says artists like Twain, Faith Hill, Martina McBride and LeAnn Rimes ruled over the country music airwaves.
“For me, Shania was the one really paving the way,” she says.
Moskaluke has a few other things to be excited about at this year’s show. She’s tied with Brett Kissel for the most CCMA nominations — they each have six. Merlo is nominated for female artist of the year.
“Brett always cleans house,” Moskaluke says of her friend. “Year after year he has a fantastic career.”
But Moskaluke’s country stardom, which includes three consecutive female artist wins at the CCMA Awards, is opening new doors in Nashville.
She’s been working on a number of collaborations she’s keeping under wraps, and this summer recorded a Christmas album that’ll be released later this year.
“I always thought I’d have to work really hard to get into the Christmas spirit,” she says of her studio time in July.
“But you can’t hear Christmas spirit, you just have to sing the song… We put up a Christmas tree and that’s it.”
Moskaluke also plans to get married this weekend at her Saskatchewan farm, which she says added another layer of complications to her busy schedule.
“I haven’t had time to breathe. I don’t eat anymore, or sleep, because there’s no time for that,” she jokes.
“I guess I’m overwhelmed with excitement.”
The CCMA Awards will broadcast live on the CBC and cbcmusic.ca/ccmas at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT).

If the jukebox was filled with Shania Twain songs, which one would you pick to play?
Choosing favourites is tough for the singers who will pay tribute to Canada’s country music queen at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards next month.
They say, how do you decide on just one great Twain song?
Her library ranges from crossover hits like “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!,” “You’re Still the One” and “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” which exploded on both pop and country radio
And then there’s ballads like “From This Moment On,” which has been embraced for years as a popular first dance at weddings.
But Jess Moskaluke, Kira Isabella and Madeline Merlo decided to dig a little deeper.
The trio, who open the CBC’s broadcast of the CCMA Awards with a powerhouse homage to Twain on Sept. 9, selected favourites that might not necessarily be most obvious to casual Twain fans.
Jess Moskaluke’s Pick
Song: “No One Needs to Know”
The album: 1995’s “The Woman in Me”
“I don’t have one single favourite, but (this is) one of the very first ones I ever remember hearing,” Moskaluke says.
“It was such an easy song to sing along to — and fun when she flips into her falsetto. Even before I was a singer I knew that was a fun song to sing.”
Kira Isabella’s Pick
Song: “It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing”
The album: 2002’s “Up!”
“I love country music for the way so many artists have been able to describe a broken heart. And she does such and incredible job of that,” Isabella says.
“When I was 11 or 12 listening to that song I just loved the melody, but I didn’t really understand it. Now that I’m older I love it on so many different levels because I’ve had my heart broken like that.”
Madeline Merlo’s Pick
Song: “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?”
The album: 1995’s “The Woman in Me”
“The harmonies — sonically it didn’t sound like anything else at the time,” Merlo says.
“It made so many waves in the industry and she shook everything up with that song. I performed a lot of Shania Twain as a kid and that was definitely one of them.”

‘Shania did everything’: how the record-breaking singer shaped Canadian country music
CBC Music | September 6, 2018
Hit play on “Any Man of Mine” at karaoke, and you’ll have a roomful of people singing “better walk the line” by the time the chorus hits. It’s been 25 years since Shania Twain’s self-titled debut album was released, and there’s a reason the Timmins, Ontario-born singer remains the top-selling female country artist of all time.
From 1993 to 2002, Twain made country-pop crossover its own genre, winning five Grammys, 13 Junos and topping plenty of charts, paving the way for artists sitting atop those same charts every year since. This year, Twain will be hosting the Canadian Country Music Association Awards in Hamilton, while also receiving the CCMA Generation Award, which recognizes artists who have pushed country music to new audiences internationally.
After making a comeback last year with her first solo album in 15 years — and celebrating a quarter-century since her debut — we thought it was time to ask some of this year's CCMA Award nominees how Twain has influenced their music. From Jess Moskaluke and Dean Brody to Lindi Ortega and Brett Kissel and more, their answers are below.
Tenille Arts
"Shania Twain was one of my biggest influences growing up, and she is the reason I started voice lessons. When I was seven years old, a neighbour overheard me singing ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman’ in my backyard and she came over and told my mom that I had a great voice. Ever since that day I have dreamed about being a singer and followed in her footsteps by going to Nashville."
Brett Kissel
“Shania, to me, is kind of like Elvis. When I was at Graceland in Memphis, there's this massive sign that said, 'Before anyone did anything — Elvis did everything.' So, to me, that's what Shania has meant to me — and all Canadian country artists. Before any of us did anything, Shania did everything. She's an amazing singer. An amazing songwriter. And an amazing entertainer. Shania is 'everything.'"
Jessica Mitchell
“Shania broke barriers from day 1 of her career by being herself and not being afraid to sing about things she wanted to, empowering women through lyrics and melody and bending genres to appeal to a widespread fanbase. That was something that always spoke volumes to me because I try to follow that same fearless path and do what makes me happy. She paved the way for many of us trying to carve our own path through the entertainment industry, and I’m grateful I had her music as a guide to never be afraid to do what I want to do musically.”
Dean Brody
"The thing I love and appreciate about Shania is that she wasn’t confined to the 'rules' of Nashville at the time. She was a trailblazer. Artists like her show that being yourself and being true to your own vision can be a breath of fresh air to a sometimes confining genre. Fans love authenticity. Especially country music fans. She, much like Taylor Swift, has helped me see that."
Madeline Merlo
"Shania has influenced my music immensely because she changed the landscape of country music at the time of her explosion into the scene. She brought so many pop and rock elements into her classic country roots, and although it pushed boundaries it became absolutely huge internationally. Shania taught me to push boundaries, not be afraid to be different and follow your heart."
Tim Hicks
“I think for me, the way that Shania's music was produced, especially early on, really changed the way I thought of country music. Bringing in those rock and pop elements kicked down a lot of doors and opened the whole thing up for a guy like me to find a home as an artist.”
Jess Moskaluke
“Shania has paved the way for so many country music artists to be who they really are. She’s bridged the gap between pop and country stylings and is largely a part of the reason I can be the pop country artist I want to be!”
Brandi Caroline (Nice Horse)
"Shania is, hands down, one of the biggest influences in my music career. I remember her first record, the self-titled album. It was one of the first CDs I ever owned — I loved Shania with the wolf on the front cover! I had that CD on non-stop. I would listen to 'Dance With the One That Brought You' over and over. I would sing harmonies to that album in the car. I am pretty sure there isn't a single lyric on that album that I still don't know 'til this day.
"I was so inspired by Shania that as a young, 10-year-old girl, I wrote her a letter. I had just moved to a new town, and I was having a hard time moving in. Music was the only thing that made me feel better during that time, her record in particular — I would just sit in my room and listen to that CD. I wrote her telling her all of that. You wouldn't believe my complete joy and shock when I received a reply back! She told me in the letter that she had a hard time growing up, too. Hearing that from Shania Twain helped me through that tough time, and as a young aspiring musician, that letter definitely fuelled my passion. I still have that letter to this day."
Lindi Ortega
"Shania Twain blazed a trail for a lot of modern-day country artists. She was one of the first to cross over. Her music went beyond the genre 'country' and became popular to all. Many have followed in her footsteps. She also never bent to Nashville norms; it was considered racy for her to show her midriff in her videos, but she didn’t care. She owned her style and didn’t compromise her vision for who she wanted to be as an artist."
Donovan Woods
"What Shania did was forge a path for Canadian women in Nashville. There will now forever be a narrative of a Canadian woman succeeding enormously in the U.S., at the highest levels, and no one can say it can't happen again.
“Shania's trailblazing is observable in Canadian artists like Terri Clark and Lindsay Ell and now, Tenille Townes. In a town where they'll use any old excuse to reject you (even your Canadian citizenship) Shania's success means it's possible. Country music is a format built on the backs of strong female performers. Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Faith Hill — that list isn't complete without Shania. That's so hugely inspiring."
Lindsay Ell
"Shania was my role model as a little girl. I knew every word to every song and remember growing up running around all the rooms in my house with a plastic microphone thinking I would be her one day. Shania inspired me to fall in love with performing at a really young age, and helped me believe that anything is possible."
The Reklaws
"Shania has influenced us in bigger ways than ever. Her music has spoken to so many across the world and has given us a way to sing and share! There is not one country artist that has not covered one of her songs and felt the way the room changes when you do. On top of her music, her life story — as a woman and as a Canadian making huge waves across the world — she has set bars and has shown bravery that artists of every gender and age will look up to."
Hunter Brothers
“Shania Twain truly is a legend. She has always been ahead of her time musically, and exudes a great measure of energy with every song, recording and performance she puts her hands to. We grew up with one radio station in our little town and Shania dominated the airwaves. Her progressive pop leanings have no doubt held an effect on our musical direction and we are thankful for the pioneer she has been in the country format.”

I wonder why they keep on telling it's her first red carpet appearance in over a decade when she attended a number of those during this time. Even Junos in 2011. Didn't they study Maths at school? What's wrong with the calculations?

I guess they mean her first CCMA red carpet appearance in over a decade. She last attended the CCMAs in 2003 if I have my facts correct.

With two major noms at Sunday's Canadian Country Music Awards, Lindsay Ell is more focused on fangirling Shania Twain
ABC News Radio | September 7, 2018
Newcomer Lindsay Ell is up for two trophies at the Canadian Country Music Awards in her homeland this weekend. But the "Criminal" hitmaker is less focused on her potential wins than on meeting the ceremony's host, country/pop icon Shania Twain.
"I still have never met Shania, just for whatever circumstance," Lindsay explains. "Whenever she's in town, I'm on the road. And so I'm so excited, to first off, get to meet my idol. She's hosting the awards show that I'm getting to perform at."
"I just had a #1 in Canada and was -- oddly enough -- the first female to have a #1 on Canadian country radio for 10 years, since Terri Clark in 2008," she continues. "So it's just gonna be such an incredible night -- slash -- I might fangirl on Shania, but I'm really excited."
Lindsay's nominated for Album of the Year for The Project, but she'll also compete against the icon for Female Artist of the Year. So what will she say when she meets her hero?
"I need to rehearse this, because I probably will choke up," she admits, "and I'll just be like -- I won't even know what to say. But I will just tell her that she's inspired me. I mean, I ran around the house singing Shania songs all of my childhood," Lindsay laughs.
Ever the fashionista, Lindsay will be bringing the glam for Sunday night's show.
"We have something special planned, for carpet and performance," she reveals. "Of course, I'm performing 'Criminal,' so we might be getting a little creative... sort of a spinoff of the music video where I dressed up as a prisoner."
Keith Urban and High Valley will also appear on the CCMAs, which are set to air on the CBC in Canada.

The annual event of performances and accolades, held this year in Hamilton, packs plenty of big-name artists from across the country and beyond its borders. It also has two of Canada’s rising country stars vying for the most awards.
Jess Moskaluke and Brett Kissel both have six nominations each, marking a rare instance when two genders are represented as equally top nominees.
The show will open with a tribute to Twain’s legendary status with performances by three of Canadian country music’s new generation of female voices: Moskaluke, Kira Isabella and Madeline Merlo.
Twain will then join the trio on stage to begin hosting duties.
International country star Keith Urban is among the other big names set to perform. There’s also heaps of awards to dole out, and many of them could go to women.

Awards will also be given out for both male and female artist, and group or duo of the year on the broadcast, which airs live on CBC.
Other highlights include Terri Clark, who will be inducted into the hall of fame, and performances by Serena Ryder, Dallas Smith, Lindsay Ell and the James Barker Band.
Presenters will reach beyond the realm of country and include Top 40 pop singer Alessia Cara, “Murdoch Mysteries” actor Jonny Harris and tennis player Vasek Pospisil.

Host Shania Twain is big winner at 2018 Canadian Country Music Awards
Twain used hosting duties, acceptance speeches to promote women in music industry
By David Friend | The Canadian Press | September 9, 2018
Man, she feels like a winner.
Shania Twain proved nothing could stop her at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards on Sunday as she picked up the most accolades of the night after serving as host of the festivities.
The Timmins, Ont.-raised superstar eagerly participated in a celebration of her career that included winning the Generation Award and the fans' choice award.
Her latest album Now was recognized for its appeal across borders, winning the top-selling album and top-selling Canadian album awards.
The CCMA Awards opened with a tribute to Twain's legendary status led by three of Canadian country music's new generation of female voices: Jess Moskaluke, Kira Isabella and Madeline Merlo.
Twain then joined the trio on stage to finish the song and proclaim that country remains close to her heart.
"My musical influences have always been diverse but country music gave me a home, a place where a fast-talking girl from northern Ontario, who dreamt for bigger things for her and her family, could be heard," she said.
Twain also took several opportunities throughout the broadcast to celebrate the inroads women are making in the country music industry. She also called for more progress.
"I'm thrilled to see women in country dominating the album of the year category," she said, pointing to how rare it was to see so many women among the nominees.
"But we can go further by recognizing a place for diversity in country music by being inclusive and by really respecting what women of country have always been able to deliver: heart, soul and a kick-ass guitar riff."
When Twain was given the Generation Award by pop singer Alessia Cara, Twain paused to recognize how Cara is forging a voice for a younger generation.
"Alessia really represents the empowered, independent female of today," she said.
Terri Clark inducted to hall of fame
Among the other winners was Moskaluke whose Past the Past locked in album of the year.
James Barker Band's Chills picked up single of the year, giving the song an extra boost after it won top-selling single at a gala dinner ahead of the broadcast. The Reklaws won rising star.
International country star Keith Urban, who performed his song Never Coming Down, inducted Terri Clark into the hall of fame after a reel of best wishes from longtime pals.
"To be congratulated by Reba, Brooks and Dunn and be given this award by one of the most talented men on this planet is pretty awesome," Clark said.
"I can't wait to see where this crazy ride takes me next," she added. "I'm not done, this is just the second chapter."
Some CCMA awards were handed out in events leading up to the broadcast.
The Washboard Union took home their third award for roots artist or group.
Moskaluke's Home Movie won for country music program or special, while the design of her album Past the Past received an award for its creative directors.
Stephano Barberis received the video director award for the visual esthetic he added to numerous projects, including Meghan Patrick's The Bad Guy, Jade Mya's Dirt Covered Rhinestone and Gord Bamford's Neon Smoke.
