The country superstar will be performing at the 2019 American Music Awards, singing a medley of some of her greatest hits, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal.
The performance will mark the iconic singer’s first time returning to the AMA stage in 16 years.
Throughout her lengthy career, Twain has released many hits, including “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” “You’re Still the One” and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” and the singer released her latest album, Now, in 2017. The release debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart, which represented the first time in over three years that an album from a female country artist topped the all-genre chart.
On Nov. 1, it was announced that Gomez, 27, would perform new music at this year’s AMAs after taking a hiatus from doing live television performances for two years. She previously performed at the AMAs in 2014, 2015 and 2017, when she sang her song “Wolves.”
In addition to receiving the “Artist of the Decade honor, during the show, Swift, 29, will also take the stage to perform some of the biggest hits from her career.
“Taylor’s impact on music this decade is undeniable and her performances on the American Music Awards have been truly spectacular,” Mark Bracco, executive vice president of programming and development at Dick Clark Productions, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to honor her as our Artist of the Decade and can’t wait for her to blow everyone away with an epic, career-spanning performance unlike any other!”
The 2019 American Music Awards will be broadcast live on ABC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 8:00 p.m. EST.

dick clark productions and ABC announced today that five-time American Music Awards® winner and the top-selling female country artist of all time, Shania Twain, will take the stage at the “2019 American Music Awards” to perform a medley of her greatest hits. The performance will mark Twain’s return to the American Music Awards stage for the first time since 2003.
The global superstar, who kicks off Shania Twain “Let’s Go!” The Vegas Residency at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Friday, Dec. 6, joins previously announced performers Camila Cabello, Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez, Dua Lipa, Lizzo and Thomas Rhett, as well as Taylor Swift, the “2019 American Music Awards” Artist of the Decade award recipient. The “2019 American Music Awards” will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 8:00 p.m. EST on ABC.
The American Music Awards is where the world’s biggest artists and pop-culture icons come together to honor idols, newcomers and record-breakers in the contemporary music scene. As the decade comes to a close, this year’s show celebrates the past 10 years with some of the best moments in music and live performances from the biggest names in the industry. From Pop and Rock to Country, Hip Hop and beyond, it only happens here.
Twain is a five-time GRAMMY® winner and the reigning Queen of Country Pop. With more than 90 million albums sold worldwide and U.S. sales topping 34.5 million, Twain remains the top-selling female country artist of all time. Twain’s albums include “Shania Twain,” Twain’s platinum-selling 1993 debut; “The Woman in Me,” her GRAMMY Award-winning, double diamond-selling 1995 release; “Come On Over,” the bestselling studio album in Soundscan history by a female artist in any genre and the bestselling country album of all time with over 40 million units sold worldwide; and “UP!,” Twain’s third consecutive diamond-selling album release.
Recognizing her indelible impact and achievements in music, Twain is the first and only female to receive CMT’s Artist of a Lifetime Award, and she recently received the Icon Award at Billboard’s Women in Music ceremony. Twain’s hits include “Any Man of Mine,” “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” “You’re Still the One” and “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” Twain’s first album in 15 years, “NOW,” was released in September 2017 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 albums, making it the first female country release in over three years to top the all-genre chart. Additionally, the album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country album charts and went to No. 1 in Canada, Australia and the U.K. The release of the album was followed by a year-long sold-out world tour.

Yeah, it'll be great to see her perform at an awards show again instead of just presenting an award.

I am so perched for this. It's been too long since the queen has been on TV doing a live performance. I'd love her to pull out like 5 or 6 different songs in this medley, but realistically, I think we'll get TDIMM/MIFLAW/LATGG/YSTO with maybe one of those not being included.
Shania Twain supports Taylor Swift before AMAs: It's 'ridiculous' for artists not to own their music
By Patrick Ryan | USA TODAY | November 21, 2019
Shania Twain has one wish for this weekend's American Music Awards.
"I hope I get a hug in with Post Malone – that would be really great," Twain says of the "Sunflower" singer/rapper, who leads this year's honorees with seven nominations. "Just a quick hug and 'congratulations.' I love him, and I've been such a big fan for a long time."
Plenty of people will similarly be fangirling when Twain takes the stage at Sunday's AMAs, airing live from Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater on ABC (8 p.m. EST/PST). The country-pop icon is set to perform a career-spanning medley of her best-known songs, having crossed over into mainstream Top 40 in the late 1990s with hits including "You're Still the One," "From This Moment On" and "That Don't Impress Me Much."
Twain's AMAs appearance tees up her Las Vegas return with "Let's Go!," which begins at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Dec. 6. The 23-date residency is the singer's second Vegas stint after "Shania: Still the One," which ended its two-year run in 2014.
The new concerts are akin to a "giant party," she says. "It's a very interactive show. The graphics are awesome, there are lots of costume changes – I'm having a blast with the fashion."
Twain, 54, talks to USA TODAY about her upcoming performances and shares her thoughts on Taylor Swift's recent legal battle and the lack of women on country radio.
Question: What can you tell us about your AMAs medley?
Shania Twain: It's eight songs altogether, from top to bottom. I'm starting off with a mashup of my favorite current (songs) that are not my own, and that will lead into "You're Still the One." I'm going to do that whole section alone, just me, my guitar and a microphone. Then I'm going to break into a few of my hits that everybody knows and can sing along with. I'm a fan of doing the classics: Those are the moments that bring us all together and I never get bored of that.
Q: Who else are you excited to meet or see at the show?
Twain: I hope I get to say hi to Taylor (Swift), and give Lizzo a hug, too. There's a lot of wonderful artists right now; I'm really loving music in this time. It's become more diverse than I've seen in a long time, and it seems there's more freedom of expression. I'm feeling very energized by the talent around me.
Q: Are you a fan of Billie Eilish? She's up for six AMAs and is also performing.
Twain: Oh, yes, what a great talent. She's so young, and her and her brother (songwriter/producer Finneas O'Connell) are an incredible team. They remind me of The Carpenters, in terms of how in tune that brother and sister (Karen and Richard Carpenter) were. There's almost a telepathy that nobody can even explain in how that music develops between siblings, and they must be experiencing that to some degree. It's so unique, and she's got great style.
Q: Taylor Swift said last Thursday that her former record label, Big Machine Label Group, was barring her from performing her past hits at the AMAs, although she has since been granted permission. What did you make of the dispute?
Twain: I don't know a lot about the details of that, but I'm a big supporter of Taylor. I think she's just incredibly brilliant. I haven't had a chance to talk to her about it and I don't really know where everybody is coming from, but I'll always support the artist and their access to their own music. It seems a bit ridiculous to not have that.
Q:Last week's CMA Awards celebrated women in country music. Who are some of your favorite female artists in the genre right now?
Twain: I love Little Big Town, I think they're so incredibly talented. There's a lot of good female talent out there, and they've been more vocal about the resistance at radio to include them more equally in airplay. I'm hoping that does start to make a change because there are many female artists with strong songs that belong in the Top 40 on country radio that are just not there.
It's very ageist as well. I don't hear Reba (McEntire) on the radio anymore; I don't hear Patty Loveless on the radio anymore. I don't hear Shania Twain on the radio anymore in country! So that's got to change, too. Thankfully with technology, we do have other outlets of getting our music out there and radio isn't the end all be all of somebody's success today. But it's very frustrating and it's a disservice not only to the artist, but to the public, that they can't turn on the radio and hear all the best music that's being made right now.
Q: "Let's Go!" starts in just a couple of weeks. Why did now feel like the right time to return to Vegas?
Twain: I've done a bit of acting and two international tours since (2014), so I feel like I'm ready to settle a little bit again. My son is 18 now, so I feel like I can dive more into playing with my horses and my dogs and enjoy nesting in Las Vegas. The Strip is, of course, fun and crazy, but there are some gorgeous, tranquil small communities right off the Strip. So the contrast is perfect for me: I get to do my shows at night and then go back to my little farm.
Q: Did you get good at gambling during your last residency?
Twain: (Laughs.) I like to watch other people gamble, it's a lot of fun. But I'm more into the entertainment: I love the hockey, the rodeo, the wrestling, and the other shows. I saw (Lady Gaga's "Enigma"), which was wonderful, and I just saw Madonna the other night, which was really cool.

The best-selling songstress took to the stage on Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and belted out a medley of some of music's biggest hits to close out the show.
Following Swift's win for Arist of the Year, Twain appeared sitting onstage in a hot pink gown, strumming a pink bedazzled guitar and sang riffs from Post Malone's "Rockstar," Twenty One Pilot's "Stressed Out," Swift's "Shake It Off" and Drake's "God's Plan," before using a few lines from her own hit, "You're Still the One," to transition into a wild, colorful, over-the-top performance that included shirtless back-up dancers gyrating while she sang "Any Man Of Mine," "That Don't Impress Me Much" and "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!"
With psychedelic video projections, an army of different back-up dancers and a whole lot of neon, Twain's unexpectedly and wonderfully chaotic number was certainly a memorable way to close out the performance-packed show.
Twain joined a female-centric slate of AMA performers that also included Lizzo, Camila Cabello, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift -- who was presented with the Artist of the Decade award.
It's an exciting time for Twain, who will soon kick off her Let's Go! Las Vegas residency at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Dec. 6.
The singer spoke with ET's Keltie Knight on the red carpet ahead of Sunday's big show and teased how her AMAs medley would essentially be a sneak peek at what fans can expect from her residency.
"This is a prelude to what's to come," Twain shared. "It's very colorful and fun, and it's very Shania. Today, and touching back on the classics."
She also opened up about reflecting on her very first AMAs performance, which she commemorated in a throwback snapshot she shared to Instagram earlier this week.
"I was probably a lot more nervous then," Twain told ET. "I've lived so much since then, and I'm feeling much more comfortable in my skin."
In a recent interview dishing on her upcoming residency show, the singer told ET she'd love to have artists of "any genre" join her onstage. "I love Drake," she shared. "I love Ariana Grande."
She also told ET that despite her decades in the business, she still gets nervous ahead of every performance. "I've got this terrible stage fright, so it's a leap of courage every night to get out there," Twain revealed. "But once I'm there... I feel embraced by the audience."
What did you think of Shania's performance and looks tonight Tommy? I thought she did well, I see a lot of bashing online but some people got nothing better too do then to insult people. As a Super Shania Fan your opinion is always good too hear. Thanks
Here is my two cents and I would like some constructive feedback.
1. She mentions about thinking "purple" now we know that Shania is clean and sober. She does not drink nor supports any artist that dabbles in drugs and drinking as a last resort. If I am wrong please correct me. I think she might be doing a tribute to "Prince" "Purple Rain.. so her releasing a Christmas album or new material might be out of the question.
2. She did mention way back on GMA that she is releasing a Christmas Album and we do not see any sign of that or I have not surfed through this message board to read any of Tommy's amazing updates about the album. She has been in her recording studios and getting ready for the residency which I think is wrong. Again do not harass me for saying that but I know she is doing her career on her terms and she is Shania.
3. Since NOW was a tiny little bump in the road Shania is getting back into the scene, culture and reign her power as who love and adore. She has been getting mad respect, love, and support. the proof is when Taylor got "Artist of the Decade" at the AMA's and when Shania closed out the show. Do you think this was planned on purpose? If it was not for this Timmins Ontario born talent we will not have this Allentown Pennsylvania talent. Meaning if it was not for Shania we would not have Taylor. Do you think their management planned this out to also promote Shania's new residency which I think is still wrong and I will explain.
4. Here is where I think her Las Vegas residency is wrong but good in what many could agree. She is a bit rusty and from that performance last night. I want to take the gay card away from her glam squad. In her book, she wrote about how MIFLAW is out of respect to the female performers aka drag queens she met and hanged with plus love support in Toronto during those days in her career. I think my community the LGBT one would agree her outfit last night was wrong and she could of made it a little less ruffle. The makeup was alright but honestly, th outfit was not what I thought Shania is or is she today. If she wanted to keep her fans asking questions and along she could wore "purple" but her outfit going to the AMA was like she was the queen herself and I liked it. Shania needs more time in the studio possibly to play around with the cataloged songs she has written to think what would be the hitmakers and she wants to put out. Wtih NOW being a tiny bump in her career. It would be amazing to see Shania and Taylor roling the charts as queen and princess of county pop. This residency is possibly her way of getting over the fears and letting go of the past which she has said. I am looking forward to whatever our diva is up too and how her career is looking
5. I do not want her career to end up like those fabulous and amazing legends like Reba and the company of Shania age. They always come out with a Christmas album to solidify their career and culture implications to be relevant to the force behind her. The momentum and energy I mean. We do have princesses like Taylor and the company ready to take over and dethrone them. Her performance was not as hyped up as much of the focus on Taylor and other artists. Ciara could of hyped it up and the promotion could have been a little better for Shania. The host all night could of said "Wait till the very end for Shania's comeback to the AMA stage to close out our show. She is back and such" But I think when Shania sang "Shake It Off" was her way of saying to Taylor to shake it off, keep working hard and she is proud of her.
I am so so waiting for those types of headlines where Shania hits are legendary and hitmakers. She albums sales blow away country radio and they must play her songs. I read somewhere or on this site about how they are not playing any Dolly, Loretta, Reba and Shania songs anymore. I wish we can hear the past with the present and look towards the future for county, country pop, folk and the right-winged nut jobs to shut up. Because Carrie Underwood another princess country-pop got female country artist of the year and country album of the year which "LOVE WINS" is an anthem to all that hate, divisiveness and yes those right-wing nut jobs who told Shania she will never make it etc etc. Well look at the picture now. Female empowerment in country radio and pop radio has been playing more and more of country music because of Shania! Carrie would not of won and her career is also in gratitude to not just those who voted for her. But she rode the wave when Shania ruled the radio. Yes I want to type some politics but I will not but we all know what I mean about female empowerment!

Shania Twain Wasn't Joking About Post Malone Collab — but 'If He Doesn't Want It, No Problem'
“I'm not strategizing. If he doesn't want it, it’s no problem, but I have definitely [written a song for him]," the country legend told PEOPLE
By Mark Gray | PEOPLE | December 10, 2019
Last month while speaking on The Talk, Shania Twain surprised many when she said she wanted to collaborate with rapper Post Malone — and had even already written a song for them. A few weeks later, her phone hasn’t rung… yet!
“I’m not strategizing. If he doesn’t want it, it’s no problem, but I have definitely [written a song for him,]” she told PEOPLE. “So we’ll see. I’m a fan of his anyway. I really love it. I love his voice.”
Twain is certainly familiar with Malone’s music, as she included his song “Rockstar” in an acoustic medley during her American Music Awards performance (per the video below, Malone loved it). She also covered other top artists before segueing into her own songs.
For many, it was somewhat shocking to hear Twain open her show-ending performance with songs from Malone, Taylor Swift and Drake that night. Even her own team wasn’t in on her plan, only finding out a few days before. The artists themselves weren’t made aware either.
“I hesitated for a long time to tell anybody that I was planning on it,” she said. “I didn’t want to be talked out of it, but I knew that it would make people nervous. And I thought if I tell too many people too early, they’re going to talk me out of it because it’s a little bit of a different thing to do.”
“I did it because they’re fans of mine. They’re all very open about that. I’m fans of theirs, so I just thought how cool to break their music down into my acoustic singing songwriter style,” she said. “It was self-serving because those are songs I’m a fan of. I like to sit around and just sing, and that broke my own nerves to get out there and do my other stuff.”
“There’s a special spirit about Las Vegas,” she said. “Most people that come to town are here to enjoy themselves. So they’re here with a good spirit already. It’s not like they need to be convinced to, like, let their hair down and enjoy themselves. That’s what they’re here to do. And so you’re already in a winning scenario there, and it makes it easier in the sense that the vibe is already set.”
Post Malone talks Shania Twain crush, country music aspirations, and working with Ozzy
By Lyndsey Parker | Yahoo Music | January 29, 2020
In his new commercial for Doritos, Post Malone rocks a lime-green rhinestone-cowboy getup as his alter ego, Post Limón. It’s a look he wears well, and it turns out the genre-blurring superstar is a big country music fan.
That explains why, at the recent American Music Awards, he could be spotted in viral audience footage adorably and totally unironically singing along to Shania Twain’s greatest-hits finale number, looking like he was living his best life — especially during "Man! I Feel Like a Woman.”
“That's an absolute banger of a song. Me and my mom would always sing that in the car going to school,” says Post, who confesses that he’s “most certainly” had a crush on Twain since he was 6 years old. “I've been a Shania Twain fan for a long time.”
Twain actually paid homage to Post that AMAs evening, kicking off her buzzy performance with an acoustic medley that included his hit "Rockstar" (along with twenty one pilots' "Stressed Out," Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off," and Drake's "God's Plan"). “I thought was really, really, really awesome. I was so honored that she just threw it into the compilation a little bit,” gushes Post. “One of my managers told me, ‘Hey, Shania wants to cover one of your songs tonight,’ and I was so, so ecstatic and excited.”
And Post just might return the favor. When asked if he’d ever consider doing his own remake of “Man! I Feel Like a Woman,” he tells Yahoo Entertainment, “I would love to! I don't see why not. I think it sounds like a good time. I'd pick up the band and do a nice big cover with it. I want a whole horn section and everything, like a 30-piece band, and we'll just rock out.”
Post, who’s collaborated with everyone from Justin Bieber to Kanye West to Ozzy Osbourne but has “always loved old-school Nudie suits and Hank Sr.-type country music,” isn’t opposed to doing a full country album on his own one day. “I don't see why I wouldn't mess around and mash something together, and just have fun with it,” he says. “I make a bunch of different songs, some of which that will never come out, just for fun. I’ve made some country songs, some rock songs… you never know whenever I might get some inspiration and just say, ‘Hey, let's put this out now.’”
“It was really an honor to work with Ozzy,” says Post, who was unaware at the time that Osbourne had Parkinson’s disease. (Osbourne announced his diagnosis last week.) “He had difficulty standing, so every time we performed, like on [the American Music Awards] and at my show at the Forum, we got him a cool throne. But he's so strong, you couldn't tell. He has such a strong will, and he's such a nice, funny guy, and whenever you shake his hand, he's very deliberate, very strong. So I couldn't tell; he looked good to me. And I'm excited for him to put out this [Ordinary Man] record, because I know he's really excited and really passionate about it. He's a strong guy, and it's really cool to work with him and be a part of everything.”
As for all those memeworthy, viral Twitter posts from young, uneducated fans who seemed to think Ozzy was some unknown rocker getting his first big break from Post Malone, Post chuckles and has a feeling they were just trolling. “If it was a joke, it's hilarious. If it wasn't a joke, it's still hilarious! I don't know, people are funny on the internet, so I don't know if they were joking or not. But mark my words: You'll be hearing more from this Ozzy Osbourne kid!”
Along with Lil Nas X (another artist with a penchant for bedazzled rodeo suits), Post Malone defies categorization. So, when asked about future dream collaborators (besides Shania, of course), he rattles off a wishlist of Timbaland, Danger Mouse, CeeLo Green, and even Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes. “There's so many talented artists out there that I've dreamt about working with. I suppose right time, right place,” he says. “That's what I like about music now — not just country, but everything. Rock is changing. Country is changing. Everything's so cool and everything's so mishmashed together. I love how everything sounds right now.”
Shania is getting blown out. (22 hours left to vote.)
Makes complete sense though. The band and band members of maneskin have posted on socials about this poll. Since then she went back from 40-60% to 29-71%
