Shania Twain Says Her Confidence Is Back With New Las Vegas Residency: ‘I’m More Prepared Than Ever’

By Katie Colley | ET Canada | December 9, 2019

Let’s go, girls! Shania Twain has officially made her return to Las Vegas.

Speaking with ET Canada’s Sangita Patel after the opening night of her “Shania Twain Let’s Go! The Residency” at the Zappos Theater inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, the Canadian country queen says her latest gig is more than she ever imagined.

Following an eight-year battle with Lyme Disease, the five-time Grammy winner says her confidence is finally back after struggling with vocal chord issues.

“So many things have opened up for me in the last couple of years,” says Twain. “Just by being proactive and getting my confidence back, obviously my voice was a huge part of that. Now I feel like the possibilities are endless.”

Despite headlining a show-stopping two-year Las Vegas residency in 2012 and launching a comeback “Rock This Country” tour in 2015, Twain admits she’s never felt more ready for her latest production.

“I’m more prepared than I’ve ever been for any other show just because I was involved the whole way,” she explains. “You know every element. You know everything that’s going on around you. There’s no mystery there.”

On being an inspiration to so many people, Twain admits she always credits hard work, telling us, “The harder you work, the bigger the reward.”

Still The One: Shania Twain's joyful Las Vegas residency

By Lindsay Dunn | CityNews | December 9, 2019

She is a trailblazer and holds the record for the top selling album by a female artist in any genre for her album Come On Over. Shania Twain has been a force in the music industry for over three decades and is back in Las Vegas to launch her new residency at the Zappos Theatre in Planet Hollywood. This time around though, she is the Creative Director behind the show.

“I’m definitely a part of the show now from top to bottom,” Twain told CityNews. “I have to wear a lot of hats from lighting, to choreography to the costumes. I am involved from the very beginning. I have a lot of experience and it just feels more rewarding now to have those creative outlets as well as being the performer.”

“The joy I get for being the performer now that I’m involved in creating the whole thing is that I have the privilege of presenting the work that I’ve done and everyone else has done for the show. I’m enjoying performing now than ever before.”

The two-hour show is full of hit after hit and has inspired Twain in the studio.

“In the creative spirit of putting the show together I just started writing and writing and in the end I’ll have a new album written soon.”

While she may not have a definitive date locked down for the new music, Twain did say she has written some songs that she hopes to record with some of the industry’s top artists right now.

“Harry Styles and I, we text each other, we have been doing that for a while now just as mutual fans and we are both very open to doing something so we just need to find the right moment to connect and get in the same room together and do something creatively.”

The former One Direction heartthrob isn’t the only artists she’s hoping to get on her new album.

“I’ve already written a song for myself and Post Malone. I don’t know how that will come together but it will. I’m confident in that.”

Twain’s Vegas show has everything you would hope for an expect in a residency in Sin City — the glitz, glamour hit song after hit song.

Her last album in 2017, ‘Now,’ debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard Chart and her 23-day residency is expected to sell out. This comes over 25 years after the record breaking album ‘The Women In Me.’ The album didn’t come without controversy, nor did her follow up albums ‘Come On Over’ and ‘Up!’ where many in the country music community judged her for the way she dressed and sounded. It’s decades later and not a lot has changed.

“I think they still think I’m too sexy for country and a lot of other females are considered too sexy too,” she explained.

“There has been some regression in the country music genre. The women want to be expressive but they feel if they are too expressive, they feel that they are not going to be played on radio, and they barely are getting played on the radio now! There is a grip that needs to release so that the audience can benefit from the awesome female artists that are standing on the sidelines right now. We need to be able to shine, we need to be able to step into the spotlight. It’s almost like we are not welcomed by certain elements of the industry.”

Besides being a champion for females in country music and the music industry in general, Twain is passionate about supporting Canadian teams and athletes. You can spot her courtside at a Raptors game or cheering on Bianca Andreescu from home. But are we more likely to see her take on a match against Bianca or hitting a three with Raptors Pascal Siakam?

“I don’t want to get too ahead of myself but I was a great three-point shooter. Absolutely, I am going to say that, for a short person I could shoot a three pointer. I would love to go do that again!

Twain’s “Let’s Go!” the Las Vegas Residency at Planet Hollywood will be on and off through March with the final show date scheduled for June 6.

Shania Twain Talks Fanboy Diplo, Brad Pitt & Cooking for David Copperfield in Las Vegas (Exclusive)

By Leena Tailor‍ | Entertainment Tonight | December 9, 2019

Shania Twain has just launched her “Let’s Go” residency in Las Vegas, Nevada, and in-between inviting DJ fanboy Diplo to come jam backstage and hoping Brad Pitt turns up in the front row, the songstress has another star keeping her busy -- David Copperfield!

ET’s Lauren Zima caught up with the 54-year-old Canadian singer at Planet Hollywood’s Zappos Theater, home of her new residency show, where she dished on the craziest thing she’s done in Sin City.

“This is kind of crazy … I have to recook David Copperfield's meat because he doesn’t like it too raw,” she dished. “Sometimes we'll eat late after the show because he has a late show and [at] midnight/one in the morning, I’ll order some food in and some meat never comes cooked enough, so I always recook it.”

“It's kind of crazy, right?” Twain continued. “The weird thing about it is that I have to cook his meat. I'm like, ‘David, just ask for it more well-done.’ It's steak and I have to recook it. Chef Shania!”

Strange, indeed!

However, chances are Vegas life might even get stranger when Twain’s loyal follower, Diplo, comes to hang at Zappos Theater. The musician was in full fanboy mode when he got to meet Twain on ET’s interview platform at the recent 2019 American Music Awards.

And, Twain dished that the two have since exchanged numbers!

“He's gonna come to the show!” Twain shared. “And, when he does, I’ll make sure that we have a chance to maybe jam backstage and have a couple guitars back there.”

Someone else who Twain is hoping might pop in backstage or to her show is Brad Pitt, who she famously referenced in her 1997 hit, “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” Reflecting on how Pitt made his way into the lyrics, Twain explained how it came about after a scandal involving Pitt and his ex, Gwyneth Paltrow’s, nude photos being published in Playgirl.

“I thought it was a horrible invasion on them and I just sort of took the other angle of it,” she said. “He's so gorgeous, clothed or naked, so I just did that as an exaggeration ... being playful.”

“It doesn’t impress me much that I still have not met Brad Pitt, come on!” Twain also said.

While she awaits Pitt turning up, in her dressing room, Twain can reflect on all the great artists who have shared her new Zappos Theater home. The venue currently hosts Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson, and was previously home to Jennifer Lopez’s All I Have show as well as the record-breaking Larger Than Life residency by Twain’s longtime pals, the Backstreet Boys, whose band member AJ McLean showed his support by turning up for opening night.

“I think about [who else has shared the dressing room] when I’m in there!” Twain said. “I think about the Backstreet Boys, and all of the people who have gone through here. I mean, Jennifer! I haven't found anything [left behind] yet. I should start looking like under the cushions.”

Of course, it’s the action on stage which fans are flocking to Vegas for, with Twain’s new “Let’s Go” show featuring around eight costumes, eight “hot guy dancers”, two hairstyles, several pairs of boots and sequins which she says number “probably in the millions." With fun saloon vibes, she says she “milks the country vibes” in her discography and even busts out a song that fans have been pleading with her to perform for years -- “Forever and For Always.” The track even sees her serenade her pet pup, Melody, on stage!

“I'm not sure if I've ever even done that live in concert before, but fans are always asking about it,” she said. “I wanted to make it a very intimate experience, so I broke it all down with just a few instruments and brought Melody into it. It's very much one of those singer-songwriter songs that I would have written just sitting on my sofa at home, so I wanted to recreate that whole vibe.”

“It’s hard to sing,” she added with a laugh, explaining why she hadn’t performed the song before. “I think it would be hard to sing for anyone. Actually, Prince recorded that song, but changed the melody. He and I had never talked about it in person -- I only heard it recently and didn't know whether he had changed the melody because it was a weird place to go. Of course, he could have done anything with his voice, but it is a hard one to sing live. I’m happy it's back in the show.”

As Twain forges on with her next musical chapter in Vegas, her son, Eja, is meanwhile following his musical genes.

“He's very passionate about making music, creating music, composing music -- he doesn't have this desire to be on stage,” Twain shared. “I'm not sure if he would ever go in that direction. He's following more in the footsteps of creating the music. He loves to orchestrate music. I'm very happy for him!”

Shania Twain Wasn't Joking About Post Malone Collab — but 'If He Doesn't Want It, No Problem'

“I'm not strategizing. If he doesn't want it, it’s no problem, but I have definitely [written a song for him]," the country legend told PEOPLE

By Mark Gray | PEOPLE | December 10, 2019

Last month while speaking on The Talk, Shania Twain surprised many when she said she wanted to collaborate with rapper Post Malone — and had even already written a song for them. A few weeks later, her phone hasn’t rung… yet!

“I’m not strategizing. If he doesn’t want it, it’s no problem, but I have definitely [written a song for him,]” she told PEOPLE. “So we’ll see. I’m a fan of his anyway. I really love it. I love his voice.”

Twain is certainly familiar with Malone’s music, as she included his song “Rockstar” in an acoustic medley during her American Music Awards performance (per the video below, Malone loved it). She also covered other top artists before segueing into her own songs.

For many, it was somewhat shocking to hear Twain open her show-ending performance with songs from Malone, Taylor Swift and Drake that night. Even her own team wasn’t in on her plan, only finding out a few days before. The artists themselves weren’t made aware either.

“I hesitated for a long time to tell anybody that I was planning on it,” she said. “I didn’t want to be talked out of it, but I knew that it would make people nervous. And I thought if I tell too many people too early, they’re going to talk me out of it because it’s a little bit of a different thing to do.”

“I did it because they’re fans of mine. They’re all very open about that. I’m fans of theirs, so I just thought how cool to break their music down into my acoustic singing songwriter style,” she said. “It was self-serving because those are songs I’m a fan of. I like to sit around and just sing, and that broke my own nerves to get out there and do my other stuff.”

Twain’s music is hardly “other stuff,” as she’s one of the biggest selling musical artists of all time. Over the weekend she began a 23-show Las Vegas residency show at Planet Hollywood. It’s her second Vegas residency.

“There’s a special spirit about Las Vegas,” she said. “Most people that come to town are here to enjoy themselves. So they’re here with a good spirit already. It’s not like they need to be convinced to, like, let their hair down and enjoy themselves. That’s what they’re here to do. And so you’re already in a winning scenario there, and it makes it easier in the sense that the vibe is already set.”

I always wonder as well when she says such things. How come she doesn't remember even if FAFA is even on Chicago and Up! Close & Personal DVDs?

Shania Twain Is Still the One in Return Las Vegas Residency

By Melinda Sheckells | Billboard | December 18, 2019

shania-vegas-letsgo-interview-billboard120719-1

Shania Twain’s new Las Vegas residency “Let’s Go” at Zappos Theater in Planet Hollywood wraps up its first run Wednesday (Dec. 18), but the pop-country legend is already gearing up for her return dates in March. The show has been an all-around sales and critical success with its launch timed to coincide with the National Finals Rodeo.

“It is a wonderful the experience of not moving around every day [like a tour] and also the luxury of having a production that is only possible in the stationary environment,” she says. “It's a real community here as far as all the people that work the shows. They appreciate and respect the artists.”

Twain is the top-selling female country artist of all time with more than 90 million records sold worldwide and also serves as creative director of the show, a process she describes as a “huge operation” with a seven-piece band and eight male dancers.

“This is the most top to bottom creative direction that I've ever done. I can't design the clothes until I design the set ideas and the looks, the colors and how they play off each other. They have to work together. What the dancers wear has to work together, the lighting, the sets, everything in the right and necessary order,” she says. “It's almost like the last thing I do is perform. It's the final role and by the time that comes around, I know the show so well that's the easy part.”

Creative direction is a role she learned while making those unforgettable videos in the ’90s for songs like “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!,” a training ground for putting together her Las Vegas residencies. Twain was previously a headliner at Caesars Palace’s The Colosseum from 2012 to 2014.

“Videos were my greatest experience. It's a crash course, you've got 24 hours and you spend weeks preparing. I would write the stories and then I just learned from others the order of events of how these things come together and now after all these years I'm capable of directing myself and pulling the people together and being a leader.”

Much of the chatter on “Let’s Go!” has been linked to the parade of amazing costumes that Twain wears throughout. Known as a fashion icon and celebrated at Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame as such, Twain prances the stage in everything from pink feathers to a liquid sequin mermaid gown. Twain dazzles in eight different costumes designed by Marc Bouwer.

“Every outfit is directed from the story. I first put the set together, the song list, that's the most important thing. The flow of the show. And just pacing myself and the audience too, like I want them to be able to sit down and, and go with the dynamics,” she says. “And then the wardrobe comes next. For the mermaid dress, I wanted a look that was very liquid and very opalescent [because the lighting mimics a sunset]. I directed the look and then the designer, Mark Bouwer found the fabric.”

While it is with these creative pursuits that she is in her element, Twain looks forward to the next decade as one where she will continue to live in the truth she has discovered over the last 10 years.

“I'm now rolling along in a very good tempo of creativity, of family, connection and community around me, of who belongs there and who just doesn't, and making those distinctions,” she says. “The last years of my life have been about stabilizing, re-stabilizing myself, emotionally, re-stabilizing family, reassessing my values, my personal priorities, and really trimming off all the fat. My life now is quite small and, but very fulfilling and rewarding creatively, personally.”

And next, Twain is ready for some challenges and also rallies the country music industry to do the same.

“I’m feeling courageous and more confident. The next 10 years is about really going up those hills, I feel that momentum,” she says. “I'm feeling fearless. I'm not going to beat myself up for my mistakes. I'm unapologetic about it, I feel really good about it, I think there's a beauty about aging. [The women of country] we just have to be bold and courageous. There's too many great women that have come up in the last five years who have not been heard.”

Has Shania Twain Met Brad Pitt Yet?

Extra | December 30, 2019

“Extra” sat down with singer Shania Twain as she promoted her Las Vegas residency “Let’s Go”!

During her show, Twain performs her hits, including “You’re Still the One,” “From This Moment On,” “Man! I Feel Like a Woman," and "That Don't Impress Me Much."

Speaking of which, the five-time Grammy winner still hasn’t met Brad Pitt, who inspired her famous lyric: "Okay, so you're Brad Pitt / That don't impress me much."

She said, “It’s a running thing for me that I have never met him. We have this connection through this giant hit, and yet we’ve never met.”
