HCA Healthcare celebrates workers with virtual concert, 'With Gratitude'

Lauren Mascitti is a familiar, friendly face at TriStar Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, Tennessee, where the 28-year-old works as a registered nurse.
But on Friday night, she’ll be seen in many, many more HCA Healthcare hospitals — as a performer on “With Gratitude: A Virtual Concert Honoring HCA Healthcare Colleagues.”
The concert will air at 7:00pm CT/8:00pm ET on televisions throughout more than 185 hospitals, as well as on HCA Healthcare's Facebook page.
Mascitti — a country singer who competed earlier this year on “American Idol” — is one of 20 performers, along with Brad Paisley, Shania Twain, Amy Grant, Jewel, Don McLean, Michael W. Smith, Lauren Alaina, Josh Turner and more.
After her time on “Idol” ended in mid-April, Mascitti returned to nursing, and has been working night shifts at TriStar Horizon Medical Center.
“I've always been proud to be a nurse,” she says. “But this moment in particular, the outpouring of love and support that everybody in society is showing us as health care workers, it's really moving. It's a really powerful thing.”
While her fellow “Gratitude” artists taped their performances at home, Mascitti did hers at work, still in her scrubs. She chose to sing her original song “God Made a Woman,” which was inspired by her “Nana” and being raised by her grandparents, but also her experiences in nursing. She points to the lyric “God made a woman to hold the hand of the sick and the young and the broken man.”
“Just like nurses and health care workers are working so hard right now to be that healing factor in people's lives, music has been a saving grace for a lot of people, myself included.”
HCA also plans to feature a number of its colleagues on the special as “stars in their own right.” That group of 280,000 includes 98,000 registered nurses and 46,000 active and affiliated physicians.
Additional performers on Friday’s concert include Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts, Lindsay Ell, Michael Franti, Sara Evans, Blanco Brown, John Rich, Jo Dee Messina, John Carter Cash, Ana Cristina Cash, Sarah Darling, Wynn Varble and Joe West. Elizabeth Hasselbeck hosts, and The Oak Ridge Boys, Maddie & Tae, Shaggy and Scott Hamilton will also make appearances. George Uribe is the concert's executive producer.
Mascitti has also been busy promoting the studio version of "God Made a Woman" to country and Americana radio. As a nurse and a musician, she's grateful to be a part of "With Gratitude."
"I'm so proud to be a part of the HCA family, first of all, but the fact that they're doing this — putting together a concert with some really great names in music to lift the spirits and encourage health care workers — that's just such a cool thing, and the fact that they would include me, I just feel really, really blessed."
“With Gratitude” will be available for viewing on Facebook for one week after the premiere. To find it, visit www.facebook.com/HCAcare.
