Chucky Thompson, producer for Mary J. Blige, Notorious B.I.G. and Nas, dead at 53 after reported COVID-19 battle
By Sweenie Saint-Vil | Revolt | August 9, 2021
Hip hop and R&B producer Chucky Thompson has passed away. Young Guru broke the news on Monday (Aug. 9) while paying homage to the beat maker, who paved the way for his career.
.........................................
Though he’s lauded for making many of the beats that shaped the sound of 90s hip hop and R&B, his production discography extends from that era to modern day. Prior to his death, he was working alongside Shania Twain on Love Records and was in the process of filming a documentary about his life.
***Love Records is a new R&B record label started by Diddy (formerly Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs). The first artist he signed is singer/songwriter Stacey Barthe who also worked with Shania. Why is Shania working with Hip Hop/R&B producers and songwriters??? So weird!!! LOL! Not to mention she was in London working with Ralph Mark who is a Pop/Dance/Techno producer. Along with David Baron and Simone Felice who are Indie/Alternative producers in New York. What the hell kind of album is she making? Sounds like she is all over the place music-wise.
I'm a huge Shania fan and a long time reader of this forum but did not have an account and have never posted. After Tommy posted the above message I googled Chucky Thompson and found this additional article:
"He has production credits on a new project from Diddy, who is now going by Love. The project, Off The Grid Volume 1, is the first on Love Records and the first project for Diddy since Press Play in 2006. Thompson told the Recording Academy that he’d worked on a song with country/pop superstar Shania Twain called “Naked” for the project." https://thegrio.com/2021/08/09/producer-chucky-thompson-dies-of-covid-19/
I wonder if Shania's work with Thompson and Stacy Barthe is unrelated to her new album? I'm also curious if she is singing "Naked" or if she just the songwriter/producer? Anyway, I'm hoping her new album comes out before 2022 and I'm hoping it is closer to Up and Come on Over than Now.

First, welcome to my board. Second, thanks for the additional info. I highly doubt Shania will be singing a duet with Diddy on his new album. (However he did have several collaborations on his last album. But they were with other Hip Hop/R&B artists.) It sounds like she and Thompson (and maybe Barthe) co-wrote/produced the song "Naked". It still seems strange she is working with Hip Hop/R&B artists. I don't get it.

According to the July 22 Billboard article (via Diddy's social media), Off The Grid: Volume 1 is scheduled to be released September 24. However at some point Diddy has since deleted the release date post from his social media pages. What that means, who knows.

I don’t expect a new album this year. Kinda surprised Shania hasn’t been dropped by Mercury Nashville. It’s not like she needs a label at this point anyway.
Come on Over, Up and The Greatest Hits albums were all albums released in November correct? So maybe a lead single release in September and maybe new album in November? At what point will Shania have to make the announcement if this is the case? She's also been quite these last few weeks. Hopefully my gut feeling is right. If not, 2022 perhaps?
I hope you are right. I'm 90% sure there will be at least one new song before Christmas (a Christmas song outside the album?). Maybe she will announce something around her birthday? I wonder why Shania asks us to give the first song that comes to mind in her tweet of August 16 ...

The reason her social media team asked that on social media, is to keep her fans engaged. Shania‘s new material will never stick the way her old material did. That’s why it seems she’s so apprehensive to share new music. It’s been 10 years since she began her journey on “Why Not? With Shania Twain.” In that time, we’ve seen multiple Las Vegas stunts, 3 North American and World Wide Tours, one complete full studio album that seemed to take forever to make, countless rumors of other albums that are no where in sight, a handful of random collaborations that never really went anywhere, and a few movie gigs. Not to forget the few moments she’s had on television award shows, I.E., 2019 BillBoard Music Awards showcase, where she didn’t perform something new. I get it, she’s no longer what she was, but I don’t understand the lack of new music given how much she has performed. Many fans would prefer new music over performing. She doesn’t have to be what she use to be, but she also doesn’t have to try so hard to stay “relevant,” which is what she seems to be doing these days with all these younger acts, in other musical genres.
I've seen the same "according to insiders" tweet today for at least 10 other female artists rumored to be on Drake's new album being released Friday. Who are the "insiders"? Sounds made up to me.
Shania isn't on Drake's new album Certified Lover Boy. Surprise!
"Drake posted the names of his guests on various billboards. Among those set to appear include Jay-Z, Young Thug, Future, 21 Savage, Lil Baby, Giveon, Ty Dolla Sign, Lil Durk, Yebba, and Project Pat. The billboards for the artists were placed in each one’s respective state. "
Artists are now announcing album releases for mid-late November. As we are now into September, it's getting too late for Shania to release her album this year. If there isn't an album or lead single announcement in the next week or two, the album won't be released this year. I never really believed it would. I've always thought maybe March or April 2022 with the lead single being released around the time of Shania's February Vegas shows.
I think Shania will release a Christmas song and perform it during her Vegas shows in December.

Disappointing that we have not had any sort of hint or announcement. Honestly I've never seen an artist take so long to finish an album and release it. She's definitely not into making music anymore.
It's because she makes great music, and not just a dozen songs. The Covid is also playing a little perhaps, she wants to sell at the most favorable period. But there is hope for a Christmas song in 2021: she can do it!
Kelly Clarkson just announced she is releasing a Christmas single next week. Still not even a hint of a Christmas song from Shania. Last year Carrie Underwood released her Christmas album in late September. Most Christmas singles/albums are released late September - mid October. I think it's safe to say Shania won't be releasing a new single/studio album this year. Now she is running out of time to release a Christmas single.

Grab your friends and jam out to this week's episode of #HomeNowRadio because it's all about friendship! I'm playing tunes by some of the awesome friends I got to spend 2021 with 😘 Listen now, only on @AppleMusic:http://apple.co/homenowradio
***Shania invites all her music friends like Ray Parker Jr, Richard Marx and Bobby Brown to her studio in Switzerland to write and record music. Sounds like mostly for fun. LOL! She said the lead singer from Toto (Steve Lukather) played guitar on one of her new tracks. She also mentioned writing and recording a song over the Summer with English songwriter/producer/engineer Mark Crew in London, England.

If she's not planning to release it this year, which does not look likely at all, I don't understand why she would put "In new music mode" on all of her social medias, say in May or June that an album would be out by Christmas, and share clips of her in the studio on TikTok. She got everyone's hopes up for nothing. Hopefully she releases the album or at least a single in the spring.
There's a Christmas song David Baron produced for her last year, so maybe she will release that one to promote her return to Vegas. She said the December shows will be Christmas-themed so it's possible she will add a new Christmas song to the setlist.
I'm pretty sure the album will be released sometime during the first half of 2022, with the lead single released for her February shows in Vegas.
Why does Lizzo love Chris Brown? Will they collab in future songs?
By Frankie Stein | Film Daily | October 5, 2021
Will Chris Brown & Lizzo make any songs together?
One of the best things that could happen out of this situation would be for Chris Brown & Lizzo to release a hit song together. They both have a history of collaborating with awesome artists so it’s not like this would be something totally out of left-field. She’s collaborated with Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Nas X, Ariana Grande, Frank Ocean, Shania Twain, and more.
That video of Shania on Facebook of her singing doesn’t even have sound…
Maybe it’s a new song she plans to Release? 🤷🏻♀️
Shania Twain @ShaniaTwain
I love to write stories. Songwriting is my favorite part of what I do. I like to give every song its own personality and attitude and to sing each one in its own style.
Shania added this TikTok video to her YouTube channel yesterday. I don't think it means anything. She also added one of her first TikTok videos at her house in The Bahamas a few days ago.
Universal Music Publishing Group just tweeted that. Shania's video is still soundless. But the new music feels closer than ever. Looks like they're encouraging Shania to announce something...

The lead single will probably be released a week or two before her February Vegas shows and then the album maybe in April.

Planet Hollywod @PHVegas asked on Twitter what Shania song we would like to hear on her return to Vegas. I answered her new Christmas song. And Zappos Theater responded me with three Santa Claus, as if it would be a present ... and I'm the only one they answered! Maybe I guessed what Shania is up to for her residency ...?
If I had to guess, Shania is likely to embark on another tour if a new album is released, which would make sense, given her Vegas stint ends in 2022. I almost could careless if she embarked on a tour to support new music, it’d be nice is she spent a few years just releasing new albums, and then she could do whatever she wanted to promote it. I feel we just don’t have enough music from her. You add up all of her albums, and few released singles, I bet she doesn’t even have 100 recorded songs released.
I hope 2022 will really be the year of the New Album this time around! Hope we get a message from Shania like "2022: lots of surprises to come ...". While waiting for, a happy New Year's Eve everyone and a Happy New Year 2022!
Any idea when she'd release at least the first single? Will the album come out when vegas is over or will it come out in the Spring? Also can she have hits at almost 57? Is it possible? Now didn't produce a single hit. It better have better production and promotion then she did with now. I am not saying Shania can't make good music but the last album sucked. Like I am saying the production needs to be way better and she needs a catchy upbeat song. All I'm saying
I think she will release the Come on Over Diamond Edtion in the Spring.
The lead single off the new album will be out during the last leg of her Vegas Residency in September with the album following right after, maybe by the end of September.
Then she could release a Christmas song or album by the end of the year, but this is a far-fetched idea.

I think it might be the other way around … Come On Over: Diamond Edition in the Fall and the new album in the Spring (April or May). The biggest clue will be if she releases the lead single for her February Vegas shows. When she announced the return of her residency she said new music for her February shows. We'll see.
By the way, November 4 this year (the 25th anniversary of Come On Over) is on a release-day Friday. Perfect day to release Come On Over: Diamond Edition.

Some of the albums confirmed for this year, plus a little detective work into what to expect in 2022.
By Ian Wade | Official Charts - UK | January 12, 2022
There are some big albums coming in the next twelve months.
Though there’s always the odd surprise that even we couldn't predict – who’d have had ABBA coming back the way they did in 2021? – here’s our guide to those we know about and some heavily rumoured long players we suspect will be coming in 2022.
She's just been wrapping up her Vegas residency, and in response to a Hot Sheet tweet posted on January 9th detailing her US chart career, Shania retweeted 'in case I needed reminding ahead of releasing new music this year'. She also recently claimed she has a 'mountain of songs' ready to go. So it looks like a follow-up to 2017's Number 1 Now is on its way...
