After multiple listens I have to say this: it's one of her best albums EVER.
My very favourite songs are:
Brand New
Best Friend
Inhale/Exhale Air
Last Day of Summer
Got It Good
Number One
On Three
Done & Dusted (I LOOOOVE this one).
My two least favourite songs so far are Pretty Liar (but it gets GREAT satisfaction in screaming You're such a F*******G liar) and Queen of Me (though I love the chorus, I find it a little repetitive).
Giddy up: 9/10 Brand new: 6/10 Waking up dreaming: 9/10. Very catchy gives me shivers and brings me 20 years back when I was a teenager fan Best friend: 9/10 Pretty liar: 7/10 Inhale/exhale air: 9/10. Beautiful but I can rarely recognize her. This sounds like a duet. The backup is clearly her Last day of summer: 5/10 nice song but no hot potential Queen of me: 9/10 Got it good: 8/10 Number one: 7/10. Daft punk pop Not just a girl: 9/10 The hardest stone: 6/10
I guess the album is slightly better than now but missing some smash hits which will keep her in mind the next 18 months. Though she is working with prominent producers and she is a big star I do not know why they can not make songs that have to bring her to number one. As she is ignored from Radio stations all over the world. I hope she stays in the spotlight for one year. And some success even after the first week.
I'm going to be honest, I don't get what people see in the song Queen of Me, it just doesn't really do anything for me. Same with thing goes with The Hardest Stone. I don't mind the chorus, but so far, that's it.
I really like this album, it's a good one to vibe too and move around. That being said, one thing that I took note of is that in a lot of the songs, the lyrics are just random one liners or don't necessarily fit together. They don't flow. I find with Now and Queen Of Me, it's kinda hard to figure out what she is trying to say, especially in there verses. Not all songs are like that but many are. Doesn't mean that I don't like her albums any less, it's just something I noticed.
Also, I’m working on making a copy cat digital booklet for the album (I’m the one that did the Now digital booklet that is on this site) and I’m looking for the font that she uses for Shania on the album cover and for the song titles inside the booklet. If anyone has or know where to find the few photos that we don’t have in HQ yet, let me know. I’ll share once I’m done.
I don't really care about reviews. I see many fans upset because she used the F word on other social media platforms. It's one song and there is a version called G Rated. Queen Of Me is amazing not just the song the album. The album is number 1 worldwide on iTunes. Off to a better start then Now. This album will bring in a new fan base. Sales wise it's hard to tell with streaming. I think Giddy up should get a boost on Adult Contemporary. I know some people say auto tune but I still hear Shanias Voice. The slower songs are way less auto tuned. The fastest ones some effects added but this is a fabulous album. I'm not about to write reviews on each song. I love them all. Some more then others. Honestly Not just a girl is one I love alot. People keep saying this song will be a Country hit honestly country radio won't Play anything. We got a good album and much better than expected. Reviews are just reviews it's called critics. Some are way to low but it is a review. Enjoy the album all.
Long time since I have participated on a Message Board. Used to be very present in the 90's and 2000' in the Shania Boards. Great to see some names from the past here!!
I've being reding your messages on the new album. I miss this exchange with other fans. So great to have Shania back.
I'm still digesting the new album. My first thoughts are that it's really fresh, the most pop she has ever being, and definitely with very short songs. Yesterday I was listening to Forever and For Always, and I'm Gonna Getcha you Good, these two songs looks like James Cameron movies compared to Queen of Me album. I don't see that as a problem. But it goes really fast. Maybe much more commercial to the present. I honestly don't listen to radio since my Spotify subscription in 2015. Lolol
I do get the appeal of the song Queen of Me. I think it’s one of her best songs since the UP-era. It had the typical Shania hooks, message of empowerment and is well produced with a memorable shout ‘QUEEN’. Ofcourse it’s all about taste and preferences, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this will be another single of the album.
I may be on the team that is still trying to get the Queen of Me song.
It is definitely not my preferred one, but it may grow in me.
It's funny cause my favorite song might still be The Last Day of Summer, and I from the comments I see it's not the best reviewed.
Guess it's really a matter of taste as mentioned previously.
Whenever y’all listened to “Pretty Liar” did y’all think it sounded like Shania? I thought the vocals didn’t sound like her at all. I thought I was listening to another song, but then I finally heard one bar of her voice and I confirmed it. Crazy how this surgery changed her voice this much!

At first I thought it was a Meghan Trainor song ! I couldn't recognize her voice either.
Hmm never really noticed, to me it still very much sounds like her, I think were not used to hearing new clear/smooth vocals from her, we got used to her raspy vocals. I get where you get the Meghan Train0r comparison, but it no way does it sound like her.

This is going to sound weird but there's a section in "Queen of Me" that I think kinda sounds like something the band Queen would do. It's the last line of the bridge where there's no instrumental behind Shania's voice: "I'll tell you something, you ain't nothing but a King of fools". I wonder if that was intentional or if maybe only I noticed lmao

You're right. Not the voice. I guess it's the type of music.😉
After listening to this album several times, I would overall give it an 8.5/10.
I think "Inhale/Exhale AIR" is the best song on the album. I didn't expect this especially after hearing Shania sing "Watcha Gonna Do with that Air?" in the Not Just a Girl Netflix Documentary.
I also really like "Pretty Liar". I actually thought the same thing as others have said about it sounding like Meghan Trainor song. I don't think Shania sounds like Trainor vocally but the song has a similar beat and 'doo-wop' sound as some Trainor's early hits like "All About That Bass", "Lips are Movin" and "Dear Future Husband".
"Queen of Me" is excellent. It's something completely different. It kind of reminds me of "Ka-Ching". My only criticism of the song is that some of the transitions between the verses and chorus are weird and quite abrupt. I would love to see her perform this live and start acoustically with just guitar and then add the other instruments.
Overall, Shania is back and I think this album has the potential has for numerous singles and hits. Her voice is the strongest it's been since the end of the Up! tour and "Party for Two"era. I think she still sounds a little robotic and over processed at times but given all she's gone through and the surgeries she's had I accept that.

Definitely picked up on that too on the first listen.
Seems that the new single off the album will be ’Best Friend’. Besides the extra promo on her socials for it, a lyric video was posted on her Youtube channel and it was sent by her label to be included in the new music playlists on Spotify this week (none of the other non-single songs of the album are).
From My understanding, he wrote part of the music/melody and not the lyrics to the song. He had shared with Shania something he was working and she asked him if he would send it to her and he did. She tweaked it a bit and decided to use the clip a while later for one of her songs but didn’t tell him until the song was finished and until she knew it was going to be on the album. It was a surprise to him. In one interview. She says although happy, he wasn‘t please of the modifications done to it but she more or less told him that you are not the producer, it’s not up to you to decide, you allowed me to use it and this is what we did. They didn’t really work on the song together, although in a more recent interview she said that he did have a bit of input on the way she sang with the melody.
I think she spoke of this in her Talk Shop interviews (the first one more) and with Zane Lowe.
During her interview with "Access" she said we haven't heard those two Target/Fnac songs (well, most of us HAVE) yet but they will be released soon. So I guess those 5 extra songs are prett real.
Discovered something interesting this morning while listening to the target album with my headphones (air pods pro) this morning. Inhale/Exhale AIR, Shania doesn't appear to be the only lead vocalist. Her voice is blended with Abi Flynn's vocals, it even more apparent in the chorus were it's basically just Abi Flynn and Shania doing backing vocals and ad libs. Now that being said, this was way too obvious to miss every other listen so I removed my headphone and listen on speaker and you Abi is back in the background and Shania is in the front. How weird is that, that you hear such major differences listening to a song in a different way?
As I mentioned in my previous post I heard it directly. Couldn’t recognize her. how is abi?
I see your post now. I thought someone had mentioned something but I wasn't sure where I've seen it and I wasn't sure if it was for this song. I looked her up after listening to the song and she is a signer and she did background/lead vocals for Shania.
I actually would like the label to send ' done and dusted' to country radio. I think it would do well, or maybe I'm thinking to much in stereotypes haha.
I must be in the minority but I can see why "Done & Dusted" was put on the Target edition vs the standard edition. I feel it doesn't fit with the rest of the album and isn't as strong but it's still not a bad song. At least for me.
BEST Friend! So this song was inspired by a fun girls weekend I had in Vegas with my sister and my friend. It was a real let your hair down, laugh until you pee your pants kinda weekend 😂
On wednesday the first midweek update in the UK will follow and on Tuesday the first midweek update of the album’s performance in the US. With physical sales she will easily sell out other artist, most important is how her streaming performance will be. Tonight the first full Spotify stats will be released.

I agree with you, upon first listen I was like meh, but it grew on me. But I agree, it doesn't fit with the rest.
"Done & Dusted" is an AMAZING song! But it's too country to be included on the standard version of the album. It wouldn't fit well with the album flow. But it's a great song to finish off the album, it's so fresh and fun.
"
Stupid question.
I am using Apple Music (i pay monthly 12€)
Will 1500 times played song of queen on me will count as 1 equivalent album sales?
I guess in iTunes users buy the music and on Apple Music it’s streaming.
If I calculated right as the songs are short I can contribute two albums sales a week if a stream 10h/day on Apple Music
for the us I saw the the artist called sza or so is very high on streaming.
Though I guess Queen of me is stronger in streaming and probably also little better on online sales als Now. Though now was in a hard fought week (want to say lot of important releases plus the death of Tom
Petty)
I just hope the album won’t drop that quick as now did. As Now never climbed back up again.
Don’t know if her Grammy “performance” will help. Sad that she is not performing. Would have been the best moment.
Probably next year Grammy the album is done.
Or we hope that there are really some 5 extra tracks with nice collaboration. Which she will launch some months later and get a top 10 hit. That would be my wish.
Fans Choose Shania Twain’s ‘Queen of Me’ as This Week’s Favorite New Music
The country-pop superstar's new album brought in nearly 88% of the vote.
By Mitchell Peters | Billboard | February 5, 2023
Shania Twain‘s new album, Queen of Me, has topped this week’s new music poll.
Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (Feb. 3) on Billboard, choosing the Canadian country-pop superstar’s first album in more than five years as their favorite new music release of the past week.
Queen of Me brought in nearly 88% of the vote, beating out new music from RAYE (My 21st Century Blues), GloRilla (“Internet Trolls”), Karol G and Romeo Santos (“X Si Volvemos”), and others.
Preceded by singles “Waking Up Dreaming” and “Giddy Up!,” Twain’s latest studio set also lifts the icon’s title track to her 2022 compilation, Not Just a Girl (The Highlights), and incorporates the anthemic single into its 12-song track list.
Queen of Me, the first artist release through Republic Nashville, is the followup to Twain’s fifth studio album, Now, which blasted to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in 2017. Prior to that, her fourth album release was 2002’s Up, which also hit No. 1 on the albums chart.
“I’m honored and excited to be the label’s first artist and lead the charge of this new and exciting chapter,” the five-time Grammy winner said in September 2022 when the deal was struck. “In this respect, it feels like a new beginning all around, and I’m embracing it wholeheartedly.”
Twain is slated to present at the 2023 Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 5) and she’s the subject of the Netflix documentary Not Just A Girl, produced by Mercury Studios and directed by Joss Crowley.
See the final results of this week’s new music release poll below.
QOM no longer at #1 on iTunes all genre albums chart. Overtaken by someone named, Samara Joy? Never heard of her, but perhaps Shania will return soon, probably due to the Grammy’s.

Samara Joy won Best New Artist at the Grammys.

Okay, this is the exact thing that happened to me! I wrote something on Twitter and someone replied they had the same issue. I figured out it was when Spatial Audio was on, if you turn it off you can hear Shania's vocals. That is SO weird.

I don`t understand why she had to release an album right before the Grammys. All the winners are climbing the charts and now she is only #4 on iTunes :( I still hope for the #1 debut!
Shania gave countless interviews, yet none of live performing and I hope she will so it will help with the album sales... (Not counting the short version of WUD)
Why do you all think the iTunes Charts are that important?! Grammy winners always move up the charts after the show. She’s doing fine and whether or not you like her fashion choices, she is getting A LOT of attention. This is good for her in the end.

QOM falls to #4 on all-genre chart. If she doesn’t do some performing promo in the US, may start to slide quite a bit. I don’t see it coming back to #1 on iTunes all-genre, but it could.
I agree with Shaniafan28... Hard to read some of these posts being so critical of Shania for doing the things everyone has been harping about her not doing in the past. I have to wonder what this conversation would look like if she decided to not release a new album, attend the show, do a ton more promotion than what happened for Now, etc. I personally am grateful for the new energy Shania is brining, the wonderful new music, and the busy few years she has ahead as she has mentioned several times now.
This thread is now CLOSED. I started to notice some posts disappearing due to the thread becoming too big so I've opened a new "Queen Of Me (February 3, 2023) - singles, articles, etc." (Part 2) thread. Please continue posting there. Click link below...
