Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen Officially Returning for CNN’s ‘New Year’s Eve Live’
By Ellise Shafer | Variety | December 6, 2024
Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen are officially returning to ring in 2025 on CNN’s “New Year’s Eve Live.”
This will mark the dynamic duo’s eighth consecutive year as co-hosts of the network’s NYE coverage, where they’ll broadcast live from Times Square in New York City starting at 8 p.m. ET. In addition to airing on CNN, “New Year’s Eve Live With Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen” will also stream live on Max.
The night’s guests will include 50 Cent live from his Las Vegas residency, Sting, Meghan Trainor, Shania Twain, Diplo and Lil Jon. Mickey Guyton will sing “Imagine” live from Times Square and Patti LaBelle, Whitney Cummings, Amy Sedaris, Sasheer Zamata, Ziwe and Adam Devine will also make an appearance.
Back in October, Cohen hinted to Varietythat he and Cooper would be back on television to celebrate the start of 2025 — and that they’d be drinking. “You bet,” Cohen said. “After what Anderson did in that hurricane, I’m not only giving him tequila, I’m throwing it at him.” (Cohen was, of course, referring to the viral moment when Cooper was hit by a flying object while covering Hurricane Milton for CNN in Florida.)
The two tend to create plenty of chatter during their New Year’s Eve broadcast, especially after alcohol was brought back on air for last year’s edition. Back in November 2022, CNN’s then-CEO Chris Licht said the network would be dialing down the drinking — but after a sobering 2023 celebration, it was brought back for Cohen, Cooper and their viewers to enjoy.
***It looks like it will be a performance from Shania's current "Come On Over - All The Hits!" residency like she did in 2019 from her "Let's Go!" residency.

CNN aired her performance of MIFAW. Her audio stem on MIFLAW was missing or was really quiet during the chorus. You can only hear the background singers. She was also late coming out. I'm surprised they didn’t edit or adjust the volume prior to airing. Also Andy Cohen dancing and singing along to the recording from Times Square was really distracting.
There was another show on after Anderson and Andy which aired Shania's "Don't Be Stupid" residency performance. I can't find the full performance online. Here is a clip from someone recording their TV.
Andy Cohen calls out Anderson Cooper for being on his phone during Shania Twain’s New Year’s Eve performance

It seems Shania Twain’s New Year’s Eve performance didn’t impress Anderson Cooper much.
During a Q&A interview with the New York Times published on Wednesday, Cooper’s co-host on CNN’s “New Year’s Eve Live,” Andy Cohen, called him out for being on his phone during the country singer’s mini concert on Tuesday night.
The critique came after the duo was asked about their New Year’s resolutions.
After the Bravo star told the outlet, “Mine is the same as it always is, which is to spend less time on my phone,” Cooper joked, “That would be good. That’s my resolution for Andy as well.”
Cohen then cheekily quipped: “Well, sweetie, you were on your phone last night while Shania Twain was killing it performing ‘Man, I Feel Like a Woman.’”
This year’s annual show featured several appearances from celebrities including Ralph Fiennes and Diplo, who shockingly revealed he was tripping on acid during his interview.
Days before the big ball-dropping event, Cohen revealed what he thinks is the “most annoying” part of hosting the annual show, telling People that it has to do with Cooper’s “giggles.”
“Well, [it’s] that I have to be the straight guy,” Cohen shared.
“Literally, he’s in a puddle of giggles for the last 90 minutes of the broadcast, and I’m the one that’s hitting all the commercial breaks.”
“I kind of turn into Mr. CNN for the last 90 minutes, and he turns into Mr. Bravo,” he added.
Cooper also revealed his own pet peeve about hosting the special with his longtime friend during his Dec. 16 appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.”
“Just who he’s gonna insult and what the clean up on aisle 3 is gonna be in the morning,” the journalist said.
