Country music fans will soon get to know Shania Twain like never before with the July release of her new — and quite personal — album, Little Miss Twain. “It is all about storytelling and reflection on my youth, where and how I grew up and how I am still influenced by those memories and experiences,” she says.

The Windsor, Ont., native — who spent her formative years in Timmins and now lives in Switzerland with husband Frédéric Thiébaud — had a difficult childhood, living in poverty and struggling with the loss of her parents. While the songs touch on such troubled times, Shania notes, “It’s also a very joyous album.”

Here, the singer and mom of one chats about the project, perseverance and a summer plan that will see her reunite with a famous friend.
