Shania to be inducted into Canadian Music Hall of Fame at 2011 Juno Awards

She will be attending the 2011 Junos, by the looks of it.

Shania Twain named 2011 inductee into Canadian Music Hall of Fame

The Canadian Press

Newlywed Shania Twain has another reason to smile — the Timmins, Ont., native has been announced as the 2011 inductee to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

The 12-time Juno Award winner will be honoured during this year’s award telecast in Toronto on March 27, marking her first return to the Junos since hosting the 2003 bash in Ottawa.

Twain married Swiss businessman Frederic Thiebaud on New Year’s Day in Rincon, Puerto Rico in front of 40 family members and friends.

The 45-year-old Twain is preparing to launch a TV show on Oprah Winfrey’s cable channel, OWN, called “Why Not? With Shania Twain,” and has plans to publish a memoir.

With over 80 million albums sold worldwide, the five-time Grammy-winning Twain stands among the best-selling artists of all time.

The 40th Juno Awards ceremony will be hosted by 24-year-old Toronto rapper Drake. Nominations will be announced on Feb. 1.

“Shania Twain revolutionized the look and sound of country music, and truly is one of the most accomplished and celebrated music artists of her era,” said Melanie Berry, president and CEO of Junos organizer the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, in a statement.

“Her authenticity as a songwriter and performer has made her a global powerhouse, and we’re so proud to honour her at home in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.”

Toronto, ON (January 11, 2011) — The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) is pleased to announce international superstar Shania Twain as the 2011 inductee to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. In addition to a string of chart-topping albums, Twain has garnered numerous awards and accolades over her extraordinary career — including 12 JUNO Awards — and will add yet another achievement when she is honoured during the live CTV broadcast of The 2011 JUNO Awards, on Sunday, March 27. This will mark Twain’s return to the JUNO Awards since hosting the Ottawa broadcast in 2003.

“Shania Twain revolutionized the look and sound of country music, and truly is one of the most accomplished and celebrated music artists of her era,” said Melanie Berry, President & CEO of CARAS. “Her authenticity as a songwriter and performer has made her a global powerhouse, and we’re so proud to honour her at home in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.”

Shania Twain is a world-wide music phenomenon: more than 41 million albums sold in the U.S. and over 4.2 million albums in Canada; the top-selling female artist in history; multi-platinum album sales in 32 countries including Canada, Australia, the UK, Indonesia, Holland and Norway; the sixth biggest selling album of all time; 16 Top Ten hits, half of which reached No. 1; and the list continues.

This Spring, Twain’s highly anticipated autobiography hits bookstores, chronicling her extraordinary life and remarkable musical journey, plus the songstress is set to debut a docu-series on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, titled “Why Not? With Shania Twain.”

Twain took the country music scene by storm in 1995 with the release of THE WOMAN IN ME, bringing a catchy, never-heard-before pop sensibility to the genre. The first single from the album, “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under” caught everyone’s attention, but it was the brash and sassy “Any Man of Mine” that really set the tone for Twain’s impact on country music. A runaway hit, complemented by a video that debuted Twain’s star power, the song rose to the top of the charts, followed quickly by the equally attitude-filled “I’m Outta Here.”

THE WOMAN IN ME went on to sell over 12 million copies in the U.S. and nearly 400,000 copies in Canada, replacing Patsy Cline’s Greatest Hits as the bestselling album by a female country artist. Twain became a mainstay on the awards stage in 1996 earning two JUNO Awards including Entertainer of the Year, her first Grammy for Best Country Album and just about every major global music award.

She continued her incredible momentum with COME ON OVER in 1997, which spawned four consecutive record-breaking No. 1 hit singles: “Man, I Feel Like A Woman!,” “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” “Love Gets Me Every Time” and “You’re Still The One.” With sales of 19 million copies in the U.S. and two million in Canada, the album became the biggest seller by a woman in any genre of music, and is the highest selling record in the Nielsen SoundScan era — establishing her as a bona fide international superstar.

Following two wildly successful albums, Twain set out on a 19-month tour and performed for more than 2.5 million fans. The “Come On Over Tour” was the highest-grossing tour in country music history. At the top of her game, she finally took a well-deserved break and welcomed her greatest accomplishment, her first child.

But fans couldn’t get enough Shania, and she didn’t keep them waiting for long. In 2002, Twain released UP!, a double-CD set that offered a country version and pop mix of songs to the delight of her fans, who snapped up nearly three million copies in less than a month. The first single, “I’m Gonna Getcha Good,” once again proved her prowess as a songwriter and performer, and garnered Twain three more JUNO Awards in 2003. Certified at 10 million U.S. sales and over a million in Canada, UP! made Twain the only artist in history to have three consecutive diamond RIAA-certified albums — the other two being THE WOMAN IN ME (12x platinum) and COME ON OVER (19x platinum).

With three powerhouse albums to draw from, SHANIA TWAIN’S GREATEST HITS was released in 2004, with Canadian sales topping close to a million. “I wanted to put together all of my favourite songs from over the years for a fun, high-energy album,” said Twain. “And it was exactly that, as well as a dedication to all of the passionate fans who have enjoyed and supported me throughout the years.”

In 2005, Twain received one of the nation’s most prestigious honours and became an Officer of the Order of Canada in recognition of her contributions to Canadian culture and society.

The Canadian Music Hall of Fame was established in 1978 and recognizes Canadian artists that have attained commercial success while having a positive impact on the Canadian music scene here at home and around the world. Shania Twain will join the ranks of Canadian music icons including Anne Murray, Bruce ****burn, Daniel Lanois, Hank Snow, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Oscar Petersen and Tom Cochrane in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Shania heading to Canadian Music Hall of Fame

Ceremony to take place during Juno Awards

By Chelsey Romain, The Timmins Daily Press

She's not just a pretty face. No, Shania Twain is more than that. And now she's going to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

The announcement came Tuesday that Twain will be inducted into the elite club during the 2011 Juno Awards in Toronto on March 27.

The Timmins native has seen a lot of the spotlight lately, from carrying the Olympic torch in her hometown, to the announcement of her own television on the Oprah Winfrey Network, to her recent nuptials.

Shania Twain Centre manager Tracy Hautanen said its always nice to see Shania recognized for what's she's done in the music world.

"We're always very excited for Shania and her accomplishments," Hautanen said, who said the centre itself often gets to share some of that spotlight. "She's an amazing artist and its nice to see her hard work pay off.

"We're very proud of her."

Twain is no stranger to accolades. In 1999 she was named Entertainer of the Year by both the Academy of Country Music as well as the Country Music Association, becoming the first non-US citizen to win the CMA award.

She has won numerous other awards over her career beginning in 1993, including 26 Canadian Country Music Awards, 12 Junos and five Grammys.

In 2003 she received a star on Canada's Walk of Fame and two years later was invested as an officer with the Order of Canada.

When informed, Mayor Tom Laughren said her induction was great news and that the city wished her the very best.

"She's a small-town girl who has done very will in the big-world picture," Laughren said. "Shania is very proud of Timmins and her roots and we should be proud of her too."

This year's Junos will mark the first time the 45-year-old will attend the ceremony since she hosted them in Ottawa in 2003.

Twain's recent emergence back into the public eye, following her divorce from music producer Robert "Mutt" Lange, also means good news for Timmins and the centre that bears her name.

Hautanen said often people will Google her name when its mentioned in the media. The centre's website comes up as one of the top searches.

"Shania has mentioned Timmins so much in the past, so her media attention always puts Timmins in the spotlight as well," she said. "All the records we keep at the centre show that when she's more visible, we see an increase in the numbers at our conventions as well as in visits in general."

In addition to writing new music, Twain also has an autobiography expected to hit book shelves this spring, and her docu-series Why Not? With Shania Twain on the OWN network.

Twain also recently remarried on New Year's Day to Frederic Thiebaud, who's ex-wife had an affair with Twain's ex-husband.

To date Twain has sold more than 41 million albums in the US and 4.2 million albums in Canada, making her the top selling female artist in history.

She also has the sixth biggest selling album of all time with the 1997 release of Come on Over. With 19 million copies sold, the album produced 16 Top 10 hits.

"From a city perspective, we're very excited for her," Laughren said. "I'm sure there are bigger and brighter things ahead for her."

I hope so.  Rather than "appearing" via satellite, or something of the sort.

If she does show up live, I'm sure Fred will be there front and center, to contrast how Shania had to go solo to every other event because Mutt wouldn't accompany her.

RE: Shania to be inducted into Canadian Music Hall of Fame at 2011 Juno Awards

Shania Twain to Be Inducted Into Canadian Music Hall of Fame

by Marianne Horner

Global superstar Shania Twain will be recognized by her homeland when she is officially inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame on March 27. The Canadian-born singer/songwriter will also receive a special tribute during the CTV live broadcast of the 2011 Juno Awards for her chart-topping, groundbreaking career that has crossed genres to revolutionize the look and sound of country music. Past Canadian music icons who have been inducted include Anne Murray, Bruce ****burn, Daniel Lanois, Hank Snow, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Oscar Peterson and Tom Cochrane.

"Shania Twain revolutionized the look and sound of country music, and truly is one of the most accomplished and celebrated music artists of her era," says Melanie Berry, President and CEO of the Canadian Academy of the Recording Arts and Sciences. "Her authenticity as a songwriter and performer has made her a global powerhouse, and we're so proud to honor her at home in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame."

In 1995, Shania took the country music world by storm with the release of her second album, 'The Woman in Me.' The album's second single, the sassy 'Any Man of Mine,' became a smash-hit, setting fire to her career and to the album, which went on to sell over 12 million copies in the U.S., replacing 'Patsy Cline's Greatest Hits' as the best-selling album by a female country artist.

Following her next wildly successful album, 'Come on Over,' Shania embarked on a 19-month tour and performed for more than 2.5 million fans. It was the highest-grossing tour in country music history.

Over the course of her 18-year career, Shania has earned numerous honors, including 12 Juno Awards, five Grammy Awards, four ACM Awards and two CMA Awards -- including Entertainer of the Year for both, as well as the ACM's Double Diamond Award in 1999 for selling more than 10 million copies each of 'The Woman in Me' and 'Come on Over,' back to back. She's also earned 38 BMI Awards for her genre-crossing songwriting achievements. In 2005, she received one of Canada's most prestigious honors when she was made an Officer of the Order of Canada, in recognition of her contributions to Canadian culture and society.

A global phenomenon, Shania has sold more than 41 million albums in the U.S. alone and is the top-selling female artist in history with multi-platinum album sales in 32 countries, including Canada, Australia, the UK, Indonesia, Holland and Norway.

March is shaping up to be a whirlwind month for Shania, who just wed Frédéric Thiébaud on New Year's Day in Puerto Rico. Her new reality show, 'Why Not?' will make its debut on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network on March 1, and her highly-anticipated autobiography chronicling her extraordinary life and musical journey will hit bookstores.

Do you have MTV2 in the USA?  I copied this from Wikipedia:

.

Broadcast rights to the Juno Awards were transferred from CBC to CTV for the 2002 ceremonies. 2006 marked the first time the Junos were broadcast internationally through MTV2 in the United States and several affiliated MTV channels in other nations. The telecast of the 2006 Juno Awards was available to approximately 250 million people.[9]

SHANIA TWAIN'S HUSBAND FREDERIC THIEBAUD SPOTTED IN TORONTO FOR JUNO AWARDS

9d1e1817.jpg
Frederic Thiebaud in Toronto - March 2011

Man!  He makes her feel like a Woman!  Shania Twain's Husband Frederic Thiebaud was spotted arriving in Toronto with full Entourage in tow (including a Sister-in-Law, seen left) earlier today. The Swiss Nestle Executive was all smiles for my Camera, before heading into their Hotel.
Twain, who is scheduled to receive her Canadian Music Hall of Fame Award at tomorrow evening's Juno Awards, was a little more discreet with her entrance.  She won't be able to avoid those Cameras tomorrow night at the Red Carpet.  And I'll be there!  Don't forget to check back for the Glamazon herself!

The photo of Frederic and Carrie-Ann was taken in front of their hotel, The Soho Metropolitan, which is very close to the Air Canada Centre, where the Junos are taking place.

The photo of Shania and Fred saying they're going for brunch was taken in the driveway of the Toronto Four Seasons hotel. Likely they had brunch there, at the Studio Cafe, a really great place for brunch in the heart of Toronto's trendy Yorkville district, where Shania loves to shop!

another article, great shot, with BOOTS !

Posted in Shania Twain on March 27, 2011 by Arasto

Greeted by fans, Shania Twain and her beau Frederic Thiebaud were spotted arriving at the Four Seasons hotel in Toronto today (March 27) for lunch at the Studio Cafe.

Following their romantic meal, the country music legend headed to the Air Canada Centre for rehearsals for the 40th Juno Awards.

Shania is expected to walk down the red carpet tonight for the first time ever alongside her Swiss-born Nestle business executive.

The Junos are the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards. Hosted by hip hop star Drake, the awards show will feature a special tribute to Young, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot and The Band performed by some of Canada’s most popular young artists.

The event will also include performances by Arcade Fire, Sarah McLachlan, Johnny Reid and others and appearances by Barenaked Ladies, Bryan Adams, Daniel Lanois, Randy Bachman, The Band’s Robbie Robertson and Rush‘s Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee.

This marks the 40th anniversary of the Juno Awards.

Meanwhile, Why Not? With Shania Twain, a new reality series featuring the Canadian singer, will premiere May 8 on OWN.

It will air immediately following the finale of The Judds.

The new series sees the normally reserved country star opening up about her life, including the end of her 14-year marriage and losing the ability to sing.

“First I found out that my marriage was over, and then the next day I found out about the affair. It was a real death. I really lost my sense of trust, compassion and honesty. I lost my ability to express myself and my ability to sing. I’ve lost it. For some reason I’m not comfortable singing in front of people anymore,” she said in a statement.

Shania adds that the bigger her career got, the more she felt the pressure to be better and better all the time, making her slowly lose her confidence.

Guests stars on Why Not? With Shania Twain will include Lionel Richie and Gladys Knight among others.

Shania to be inducted into Canadian Music Hall of Fame at 2011 Juno Awards

The live stream online from CTV isn't working for anyone but people watching on TV say Shania was just on the red carpet! Hopefully we'll get some pics soon!

They asked her about her friend Bryan Adams having a baby, and she was sooo happy for him. She said he needs to 'visit often' so she could see the little thing. I didn't see Frederic on the red carpet, but CTV's coverage SUCKS!

Drake, the host of the Junos, was serenading Shania and making her blush during his monologue.

Shania was very humble. She didn't thank Mutt or Frederic, just industry people, Canadian radio, CMT etc... I will try and upload a two part video on YouTube soon. 1st part 'stage acceptance speech' and 2nd part (although it was broadcast first) the 'history of Shania' video.

I could only do a bit at a time due to low battery and small memory card.

That's still very vague.  She can be talking about singing the theme song to her TV show for all we know.

Bieber wins his first Juno, while Arcade Fire take another two trophies

Arcade Fire led the way through the 40th anniversary Juno Award show, while Justin Bieber finally snagged one of the trophies himself — with help from his faithful fans.

The 17-year-old pop sensation took the Juno fan choice prize during Sunday's ceremony at the Air Canada Centre, but wasn't on hand to accept in person.

“I want to thank the fans so much for being so supportive, buying my albums and voting for me,” he said in a video message. “You guys have been incredible, and 2011 is going to be an amazing year. All right — peace, Junos.”

Bieber went home empty-handed last year despite three Juno nominations.

The Stratford, Ont., singer was also featured in the show's entertaining opening skit, in which he (and CTV anchor Lloyd Robertson) chatted with the show's host, 24-year-old Toronto rapper Drake, over Skype.

Meanwhile, Arcade Fire had three awards midway through the broadcast, with four more trophies still to be contested. The Montreal rockers won for group of the year, alternative album of the year and songwriter of the year, bringing their career Juno tally up to five.

“Thank you, we're so happy,” said Texas-born frontman Win Butler as the band accepted its trophy for group of the year.

“I wanna just give a shoutout to all the bands that we kind of came up with, from Royal City to Hidden Cameras, to the Unicorns, Wolf Parade, and all the amazing Canadian bands.

“Thank you so much. We're so honoured.”

The Junos also got a jolt of star-power with the induction of Shania Twain into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. The Timmins, Ont., songstress was introduced by Canuck rocker Bryan Adams, who called her a “Canadian treasure.”

“Thank you so much,” said Twain, clad in a sparkling sleeveless gown. “I really am turning into such a sap. But this is just a very beautiful moment for me. I am, I'm really so proud of Canada's talent. I sit here tonight in the audience, and I watch these amazing artists up here on the stage, world-class talent, songwriters, singers, performers — we should be proud of these people. They're just blowing me away.

“I guess, I have more pride in what the country has created musically than I am even of my own success. Honestly, I'm just more proud to be from Canada, and to be part of everything that's happening here musically.

“This is a beautiful country. ... I feel like I should just be wearing the Canadian flag tonight to be honest with you. I would love that.”

She was similarly gracious backstage. “There’s no day like today,” she said, keeping humble in the face of her Hall of Fame honours and brushing off. “Honestly, what can I say? This is a really big moment and it feels very genuine in every way …

“I don’t feel iconic. I don’t feel that way at all. I feel like a small-town girl from Timmins. That’s never going to change. I’m 45 years old … That’s who I am.”

The show had a youthful look not limited to Bieber's kudos, with pop-rap outfit Down With Webster opening the show after the appearance from Drake, and fledgling London, Ont., singer/songwriter Meaghan Smith winning the prize for new artist of the year.

But the Junos didn't forget about their rich history, either. A large cast of performers — including Jim Cuddy, Sarah Harmer and the Barenaked Ladies' Kevin Hearn — paid tribute to 40 years of Juno Awards with a medley of covers of classic Canuck compositions including Gordon Lightfoot's “If You Could Read My Mind,” Neil Young's “Old Man” and the Band's “The Shape I'm In.”

Before arriving at the Air Canada Centre, Twain, along with stars including Adams, Young (accompanied by his daughter, Amber), Robbie Robertson and Randy Bachman navigated the red carpet on a frigid spring day in Toronto.

Some wondered whether the response from Canada's biggest city would be as chilly as Sunday's weather.

Since 2002, the Junos have travelled to different Canadian cities each year — including St. John's, N.L., Vancouver, Halifax, Calgary and Edmonton — with great success. But organizers admitted going into the weekend that sales for the Toronto broadcast bash had been sluggish, and it wasn't immediately clear whether the show would be a sellout.

Shania Twain Honored at Junos

Posted March 27, 2011 in Shania Twain by lalate

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Shania Twain was honored at the Junos tonight being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Shania Twain received the Junos introduction Sunday evening by Bryan Adams. Adams called Twain a “Canadian treasure.”

Twain made news earlier this month revealing her plans to take TV audiences back to her Canadian roots. Twain will return home to Timmins, Northern Ontario, Canada, with sister Carrie Ann to reclaim her roots in the upcoming series “Why Not?” for the OWN Cable network.

Twain has also been back in the studio to deliver her fans new music. To date, Twain has sold 75 million albums worldwide to date.

Appearing before the Junos attendees tonight, Twain said “I really am turning into such a sap. But this is just a very beautiful moment for me. I am, I’m really so proud of Canada’s talent.” She added “I sit here tonight in the audience, and I watch these amazing artists up here on the stage, world-class talent, songwriters, singers, performers — we should be proud of these people. They’re just blowing me away.”

In “Why Not?” Twain will also be surrounded by top talent including Gladys Knight, Lionel Richie and David Foster as she works on her voice for new tracks. She is also joined by new husband Frèdèric Thièbaud.

“I guess, I have more pride in what the country has created musically than I am even of my own success. Honestly, I’m just more proud to be from Canada, and to be part of everything that’s happening here musically” she told audiences.

On May 3, Shania will tell more about her early years in Timmins in a new book. Atria Books, an imprint of Simon and Schuster, will release Twain’s new autobiography, ‘From This Moment On.’

“This is a beautiful country. … I feel like I should just be wearing the Canadian flag tonight to be honest with you. I would love that.”
