Interesting concept Bob. Shania vs. Carrie on American Idol.

That was the year that I started watching Idol. I cheered for Carrie. BUT..... Carrie to this day has not vocally matured to what Shania's level was years ago. Don't get me wrong, Carrie has a strong�, powerful voice and she has bettered herself with the second album. But in my opinion the song writters she has aren't giving her material that makes you want to listen over and over again.

Every song Shania has ever sung has been timeless. Her songs have been written by her, for her and about her(?). I can never hear her enough. As for Carrie, I don't mind fast forwarding a CD or changing the channel on the radio. She lacks the deep passion of Shania.

The one to watch in the future is Taylor Swift. She writes songs that have deep meaning. "Tear Drops" & "Our Song" show the ability this young lady has. If you've ever heard an interview with her, she is mature beyond her 18 years. What will she be like at 30?

Shania is an Island unto herself. If she could do Idol right now (interesting concept) vs. Carrie, how would she fare? Looks...she's never looked better. Songs? The best is yet to come.

I guess we'll die wondering.

This is the most absurd thread. Shania is a music icon known worldwide and changed the face of country music with her sound and music.
Shania has charisma that others could only dream of.
Underwood is a manufactured American Idol act who has no charisma and is told what to do by Nashville.
Like come on, did you see Underwood try and� perform at the grammys, she looked stiff as a board with no charisma and people were laughing at her that she was trying to copy Shania's outfit.
So please don't insult a music icon like Shania and even mentioned an American Idol act in the same sentence.

Carrie is a very beautiful woman. Your typical gorgeous blonde. That's not meant as any dig at all. She has a great personality. But she hasn't experienced life yet. Not her fault, it just takes time.

Shania's looks are summed up in one photo. Tommy just changed it, but it's the one where she leans up against that gold poll, wearing a gold dress. The look on her face...angelic perfection.

Not sure exactly what your saying here. If your saying would Shania get past the first round and blow away everybody including Carrie? Absolutley. This might shock Walter, but ST would only have to start singing for 15 seconds to win. Carrie is good, but she can't be compared to Shania. Five years from now, Carrie and Taylor (watch that one!) will be light years ahead of where they are now. They still will not be past Shania. In so many aspects of life, experience matters.

Shania sings from inside. Listen, really listen with no background noise, and hear what she says in the songs. That is the reason I love her music so much. She says things that register with me. I see this in Taylor Swift also.

There are tons of songs. What registers in your heart though? Gordon Lightfoot (a fellow Canadian to many of you) is where I started back in 1969' ish.

I'm a centimental, romantic type. It has gotten me nowhere in life, but I can live with myself.

And who cares about some manufactured AI act who needs nashville to survive to write her songs and produce her albums.
Shania is an outsider and does her own thing and changed the face of country music and created her own music with Mutt.
American Idol creates and manufactures acts and can make anyone a star.
But to be a real global superstar with charimsa you need to have what Shania has and thats why nobody is on her level or even close to it.

Reading these posts has been interesting. When it comes to Idol, I think Shania would have won because she is the one touched with "Stardust". She has a charisma that reaches out to you whenever she sings. I don't think it would be much of a competition really. I think Taylor has been touched with "Stardust" as well, there is a real charasmatic bond between her and her audience when she is on stage too. I like Carrie too....she has a powerful voice but as I have not seen her live I do not know what kind of bond there is between her and her audience. It seems to me that we will see a showdown between Carrie and Shania soon. When Shania releases her cd will she beat Carries 500,000 plus cds sales in her first week. I think Shania will beat this jmo. Time will tell how it fares.

What showdown? Shania is 42 years old and has nothing to prove. Shania already has all the sales records that nobody will touch. Shania only competes with� herself and is in a league of her own. even a greatest hits cd of old songs by Shania beat Underwood� hyped� new cd first week sales.
So there is no competition since Shania is global and does her own thing and set the standards nobody will touch.

I did not know that.

I'll have to get his newest CD. I did not know that either. I have all his albums, and I mean albums, up through "Gord's Gold". Also many of them on cassette tapes and some CD's.

They were talking about a group a famous people in the entertainment industy gathered together for a sit down gala room dinner. The following in order are the top 3 females that will steal the night when they walk in to be seated at their table........"1(and they stressed BY FAR)......MADONNA

Personally I understand their picks.... Lets face it... What show was this or are you just making up things again. Why would anyone mention Faith Hill? She is far,far down the list but she likes to go to these hollywood functions to be seen.
Whenever Shania makes appearances she takes the spotlight away from� everyone and people don't even look at Faith Hill.

Tim Mcgraw is the big draw on that tour, he is a proven� headliner on his� own.
Faith Hill can't support her own tour on her own and thats why she has never won Entertianer of the year. It is well known Tim Mcgraw is the big draw in that family.
