Shania: "I'm on a permanent sabbatical."

AT least everyone sees that Shania has lied to her fans over and over again over the last year saying she is working on an album and how she can't wait to get back out there performing. Just in December she is talking about an album in the works and how she is ready to step back into the spotlight.
It also looks like others have been envolved in this scheme of misleading fans.
There is no way to sugar coat it, Shania liedto everyone all of last year and others who know her or are in contact with her have also covered for her and lied to the fans.
All of these fans were waiting for years for a new album and then when finally Shania says in 2007 one is in the works, that turns out to be a lie too.
Shania delivered a low blow to her fans today and she did it like she always does, behind their back.

Hopefully, it was taken out of context.� If not, I'm sure Shania will put out a press release announcing her retirement.� Only she knows what's going on right now.... confused

Aren't you the one who promised everyone that Shania is working on new music. Your sources must not be that good.

This roller coaster ride over the last three years can leave a person sick to their stomach.

I just don't get it. I'm lost for words what to think anymore.

This is just so strange and makes no sense.

I too can only be left to hope this is out of context and not as shocking as it seems. Lord have mercy.

Maybe it's Mutt who want's to retire. He is nearly 60 after all and he know's that he must enjoy everyday he can seeing Eja grow up. You must remember that he always put the hours in when recording albums and he probably wants to spend the later years of his life out of the studio. Maybe I'm wrong and it's Shania who want's to call it a day, but I still think she's got the hunger inside her somewhere to carry on.

It doesn't matter what the reason is, a lie is a lie.
She made it clear in serveral interviews last� year that she is busy writing and recording and rest assured a new album is in the works.
Just 3 months ago in redbook articles she said her goal is to continue to write and record music that matters.
So either this comment was taken 100% out of context and kind of sarcastic joke by Shania or she out right lied and people close to her are lying and covering up her intentions.
It makes zero sense to get your fans hopes up and pratcially promise them that a new album in in the works all last year and then contradict herself in another country.
Either she is really deceptive and has no character at� all or this was a comment that was taken out of context.

People keep saying that maybe Shania's statement was taken out of context, but I find that ridiculous. It was a very straightforward question, and she gave a very straightforward answer. There's zero room for ambiguity here.

Everything that she's done (or more importantly, NOT done) over the past few years clearly point to the fact that "permanent sabbatical" means exactly that.

She just doesn't seem to care about her music or her fans. I understand that's hard for some fans to accept, but that's exactly what everything from the past few years is pointing to.

I agree that she doesn't care about music or her fans, that has been proven.
But what we mean by out of context is that she was asked in a media scrum if she would sing something and she said she is on permanent sabbatical as a sarcastic joke. We don't know at all the context it was said in, Shania always contradicts� herself. It wasn't even an interview, it was just some�reporter getting off some question and Shania snapping back as she was wallking.
We know as of 2 weeks ago Hardy, Shania's band member, told me that Shania is busy recording and writing music and her and mutt are very busy with music.
So I find it very hard to believe she lied to us for a whole�year in 2007 through interviews saying an album is in the works when there was nothing in the works.
It would be a total low blow and� shows Shania is a liar with no character.
And if this is true that Shania is on permanent sabbatical then Shania is someone never to be believed or trusted again and all of her fans should close down all sites and move on. Because I will move on once I have confirmation.
All I ever asked for was the truth and all we ever got was lies and the run around for years.
It is time for someone to step up and give us the truth because Shania sure won't.

�I guess when you make your fortune in such a short time it kills your ambition. I agree that she should come out and make a statement. Maybe she'll use one of her bandmembers again to do her dirty work and pass on the message we don't want to hear.

Hardy, emailed me just a few day ago saying shania is recording and writing and misses performing and said be patient a new album is in the works.
Either Shania is a very good liar and very deceptive or the comment was taken out of context in New Zealand.

You know, my reaction was just the same as yours. But my friend actually told me that I get it wrong. She didnt say I am going to retire she said I'm on a permanent sabbatical. I am not a native English speaker but I understand the word sabbatical as having a rest and being in some creative process (tell me if I am wrong this is the way it was translated into by language by a translator). So maybe she is making new music but permanent is because she doesnt know how much time it can take. I dont think she would lie to us. I think we just didnt understand in this case what she wanted to say. Be more optimistic. I hope if she decides to retire she will tell us all truth about it and wont lie and hide anything. Shes not that type of person, in my opinion. :)

Yes I contacted him by message on his myspace page and he got right back to me.
He said that Shania emails him from time to time sayins she is busying recording and writing.He also said that Shania tells him that she really misses performing and told me to be patient an album is in the works.
He also said that Shania asked him if he wanted to write with her too.
Hardy has a new cd coming out soon, check it out.
I told him that Shania could clear all the rumors up right now and tell the truth and tell them when a new album will be ready. He is Shania's friend so he didn't take too kind to that. I just said we respect Shania's privacy and all we want to know is about her future music plans because we support her all these years and she never tells us anything about how the music is coming along.
He said when he hears something else, he will get back to me.

That's the luxury of making 300 million by the age of 40 after years of wilderness and struggle. I'm sure living in huge homes with many acres to ride your horses and drink hot chocolate and be with your family, and traveling discretely sounds extremely appealing but it is a cruel way to handle the people on the outside looking in who put so much worth into her. (fans)

Time will tell, but you're never too old for work. Although the Lange's have an active lifestyle much the same. Nice to be rich, lol.

Well, actions speak louder than words. Shania's words are useless, since she constantly contradicts herself. And her actions over the past few years have been non-existent. So you can't blame fans for feeling like they've been slapped in the face by her.

For the record, I don't think Shania is actually retiring. I believe we'll get new music from her...someday. But I also very strongly believe that music is now a very low priority for her, no matter how many times she says "music is my life" or some other silly quote. Actions speak louder than words, Eilleen.

Yeah! Hardy actually posts over at The Shania Forums too. To be honest you can't expect him to divulge much because Mutt would have his nuts for golfballs if he did. biggrin

I wonder if we're reading too much into this line from Shania? Maybe it was just a throwaway line about how she has been taking a "sabbatical" the past few years.

At this point of the wait this is a fair statement and opinion to make.

And timminslover, maybe it was just another throw away line by Shania and her sarcastic punch lines.� Sometimes we do read too much into her words that often times contradict.

I had a quick skim around the various Shania Boards and at least it has raised some discussion at long last. It's also nice to see the usual suspects making excuses for her. To be honest I still don't believe we've heard the last from her as singer's never actually retire. Even if they so, they always make a comeback down the line as it's in their blood to perform. I think she's just taking it easy at the moment and trying to enjoy herself while she's recording new material.

Well I read the article and I personally think Shania wanted to say something immediately that would put and end to the never ending questions regarding her cd and when it would be ready. You have to admit that shut the reporter up quickly. I believe the Redbook article was the real deal where she sat with someone one on one and revealed her plans regarding music and performing. I don't believe for a minute she is retiring. Nor do I believe Mutt is retiring either. Personally if it were me I would retire and enjoy whatever time I had left especially considering Mutt is so much older. But nah, she is not me lol I really believe she will be back.

Yes angie, bob is right you know the woman. Besides she has been working on new music this has been stated by a few parties who know but most of all it was stated by Shania herself. I think good for her for shutting up that reporter with a remark like that. Had she not said what she said there would have been many questions about her next cd. and right now she does not want to talk about this. Please angie, I don't come by often enough but I enjoy reading your posts and would be so disappointed if you stopped posting the information that comes your way.

Good points.� It was a witty remark if you think about it and how many times has this burning question been tossed at Shania?� She must have known that would be the first question and she has been asked over and over so it may seem she was nipping it in the bud quickly before all heck broke loose.� This was neither the time nor the place.� I too am staying on course with the Redbook article.�

And when you are living the optimum healthy lifestyle as Mutt and Shana regardless of age difference or age factor, you're never too old. wink

I noticed that you chose not to quote the source but I found it in what I would call a rather significant newspaper... Your quote was exactly what they printed... Giving Shania the benefit of the doubt and assuming it was a humourous reply to a nosey reporter, it still wasn't the smartest of replies. She probably knew as soon as the words left her mouth that she'd dropped a clanger. She should have just straight batted the question and said she is still working on the new album. She's probably regretting it now, that's assuming she didn't mean it for real.

I agree with you TOTALLY.... Actually when you think about it... Here is Shania being sent out by Mutt to entertain the prime minister(not really her thing) on her own land with general public walking all over her property. The press asking her questions... Personally I was�kind of wondering if she was just having a bad hair day and along with all the goings on didn't have time to muck the horse stalls or prepare her favourite veggie supper... Figure she was just p'd off with the whole thing but had no choice since it was a condition before she could purchase the land. Retired.... Better think you life out Shania... Both Mutt and Eja are getting older... That is one big lonely place by yourself and to try a comeback at 75 might be tough.

ANYTIME, from anywhere when you see a small quote like that one from Shania you MUST ask "where is the rest of the sentence"?

She, as someone else stated, must have been playing with the reporters. She knows everyones wants to quote her if they can. And for any reporter to be at an obscure place like that (no offense intended, but it's not NYC) in the presense of her greatness, with a chance to get a Shania Twain quote...They must have been drooling for something.

As for what she said, can anyone believe it?�She's only 42 years old for crying out loud. She's just shifting into 3rd gear and she can afford the 6 speed cars! "In my car, I am the driver". Let her steer. She's taking us somewhere.

I agree!� I wouldn't freak over this.� I don't believe Shania is even close to being done.� I just think she wants to take this time and completely devote it to her son.
