Jessica Simpsons First Country Concert Draws Mixed Reactions

RANDALL, Wisc. -- Jessica Simpsons gone country but can she stay there?

The aspiring crossover singer made her country concert debut at the Country Thunder USA Festival in Randall, Wisc. on Saturday, where she reached out to an unsure audience.

I dont know what your perception is of Jessica Simpson or what tabloid you buy, but I just want you to know that Im just a girl from Texas; Im just like you, Simpson told the crowd, according to the Kenosha News. "Im doing what I love and dating a boy."

High-profile boyfriend and Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo may not have been there to comment, but concertgoers were quick to offer their opinions of Simpson's show.

"I actually like her country songs better," Mary Grace told the newspaper. "She has a great voice, plus, shes adorable."

In addition to her own material, Simpson reportedly sang country covers including Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" and Shania Twain's "Who's Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" But she didnt win over everyone.

"I just dont hear the country in her," said Adam Matos, from Arlington Heights, Ill. "I dont hear the twang. She's not good enough to be here."

Mike Rodriguez of Lake Geneva, Wisc., seconded that opinion.

"Just because shes dating Tony Romo it doesnt make her country, he said." She doesnt fit in with country, and Ill have to drink a lot of beer to sit through her concert.

Simpson faced some steep competition at Country Thunder, where more established artists such as Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and Sugarland were also on the bill. Her country album is due for release on September 9.

But you're right.
Cowboy attire does not (necessarily) make one a country singer.
Maybe one of these two coulda done better?
Columbia is on the left... she was the runner UP?

First Jessica does a tune called "Come On Over"
And them she does a cover of WBHYBBU?
I hope Shania is getting some decent royalties out of that.

Maybe if I put on a pair of Daisey Dukes and shake my tush,
I could make a few hundred grand ripping off Shania.
Unlike Jessica... I"VE got rhythm!!!

Jessica was a poor choice for Daisy Duke, Catherine Bach the original Daisy was 5'9" Jessica is an inch shorter than Shania, Faith is tall, but Shania the there's nothing I can't do girl with talent, wits, class, and charm would have been the perfect Daisy!!!
