The Twist is all-time US number one

Chubby Checker's song The Twist was ranked as the most popular single in the 50-year history of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.


Elvis Presley and The Beatles didn't even make the top five.


Checker's ranking may come as a surprise to some, but not to the man himself.


He said "I'm glad they've finally recognised it."


He compared The Twist -- named by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum as one of the 500 songs that shaped rock 'n' roll -- to the creation of the telephone as a groundbreaking moment because he said it was the first time people were dancing "apart to the beat".


Santana's Smooth, featuring Rob Thomas, was the second most popular, followed by Bobby Darin's Mack the Knife.

I only copied and pasted what the journalist had put in the article from a link I had read, I suggest you take it up with Virgin Media for failing to mention this. I didn't write the article.

No need to get defensive. Instead of getting snippy about it just thank me for posting more facts.
And if you post info like this it would be nice if you checked and did some research to see where Shania placed on the list since this is a Shania site and  the fans would be interested to see where Shania's song placed.

So I wasn't upset that you didn't post more info, I was just pointing out that there is more info to the story that is Shania related.

I didn't have time to check and research where Shania was on the list, I only had a few minutes to post the article before I left for work. Anyway please accept my apologies if I came across so defensive and I'm sure other fans appreciate the extra info.
