"Don't"

I'm just curious. I know that basically one of the last songs that Shania released was "Don't" Do you think they wrote that song together about their marriage breaking up? putting in the perspective she was in tears in the video? I'm just curious what everyone thinks. It seems to have a very strong message in it I thought...cry

I don't think she knew then that the marriage was in trouble but maybe she and Mutt both drew on times when they argued to help write it and maybe they even had one while writing it or shortly after writing it.  Maybe she had had an argument with him the day they filmed the video or something and she was emotional from it.  Many people accuse her of being cold and not very emotional but I don't think they realize she is the exact opposite only she doesn't show it or let anyone know it.  She holds it all in.  The music is her way of displaying all those emotions people claim she lacks.
Just my thoughts.
Warmest regards as always,
Tonto

I have to repeat once more:
I like reading or watching interviews where Shania talks not about her life but about her songs and describes what influenced her to write this and that. And she spoke about "Don't!" in CMT Special interview in 2004 (hope, I understood all words correctly while watching the video and trying to catch them all):
"Well Mutt had this title "Don't!" for a long-long time and we toiled around with it a lot... It's a negative... "Don't" is such a negative thing and I like to write about positive things. So it was like how we can make this positive. So we toiled over that for a long time and ended up with basically "Don't give up on us". The way Mutt describes it is you wanna be driving in your car after having an argument with the person that you love whether it was that morning or the month before or whatever and whoever this relationship might be with, this song comes on the radio and you realise wow! I think I've messed something up I've got to call this person and say sorry and try to turn around and get them to forgive me and we gotta work this out. So we wanted it to prompt that."
As to her crying in the video I don’t remember where it was (I think it was in CMT Insider, too, but in another issue) but there were mention some secrets behind video “Don’t!” She cried because at some point she became very emotional with the song and she didn’t even expect that from herself. And again in CMT Insider special she told the hostess that she and Mutt had arguments sometimes like other normal couples. You can’t be happy and satisfied all the time. I think we shouldn’t look for some signs in her songs because there are many heartbreak songs (especially in “The Woman In Me”) and there is “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” which was written about cheating but they are just songs, characters Shania needed to write. Again, there was “It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing” in “Up!” but Shania even smiled while singing it in Chicago in 2003. She always said she hadn’t released the most private things an as seen from her interview for CMT Insider she saw “Don’t!” as a positive, inspiring song. And it was in 2004 but they split in 2008, 4 years later so I believe neither of her songs that we know is anyhow connected with their divorce.
