Country music star Shania Twain gave fans a gift on her 44th birthday. After taking the last several months to collect herself following devastating news that her husband, Robert "Mutt" Lange, was guilty of infidelity, Twain speaks out.

In a letter to fans on her Web site she says, "Traveling has helped a great deal. I consider myself on a journey of discovery and recovery. I don't accept to be held down by the past, nor do I expect too much of the future. This allows me to dream freely with no strings attached."

Twain found a travel companion in Frederic Thiebaud, ex-husband of Marie-Anne Thiebaud. Thiebaud is her former friend and secretary and manager of her chateau in Switzerland. An alleged affair between Thiebaud and Lange was uncovered last year. Of Fred, Twain says, "…having gone through the suffering of his family splitting apart at the same time under the same extreme circumstances, he understood me better than anyone." Twain's son Eja and Fred's daughter Johanna joined their parents on several of the trips.

In addition to the heartfelt letter, Twain composed a video diary chronicling her world travels. Though the singer is remaining mum as to when she will release new material, she promises her ongoing self-discovery will be reflected in her future work.

I hear ya on this. But I do think that she could be sticking it to Mutt and Fred's ex wife for their betrayal if that's what actually occured. Who knows? She does look like a well adjusted person and that's a refreshing site in today's world of dysfunctional is in sort of people like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.

Perhaps Shania felt like she was under the gun to throw fans a bone before they left for good. I think this is a prelude to a new image post Mutt and I think I like it. I'm not an artistic sort of person, but I have friends who are and I see how much they suffer for what they do. I see how much they struggle for self expression, inspiration and a logical way to put their ideas down. I'm a salesman and my world is pretty simple, but I'm old enough to know that not everyone has it so simple.

A truly amazing video. The comments of some are as anticipated.

If you don't need her video don't watch it over and over and over again.

If you need new music I suggest you hang up your crybaby routine and get it on with some other artists, until Shania gives us all what we all want.

And stop moaning and groaning - Shania Twain does not live her life for you or I or anyone else but her family and friends and herself.

When she comes back I am sure it will be in a lower key.

If you do not like what she is doing with her life bug off.

No one really cares about you, crybabies.

I am surprised Tommy puts up with all the nonsense some post here.

Twain Writes About Her Nasty Split

Twain has remained mostly silent since her split with Mutt Lange -- her husband of 14 years -- last year, and now she's writing to her fans to tell them she's "very much alive and well."

In a lengthy letter posted on her Web site, a newly-44 Twain tells her fans that she wanted to "drop a line to catch you up on things in my life and what better time than on my birthday." She says she's enjoying life, and trying "not to worry about tomorrow since I realize I can't control what it will bring or whether tomorrow will even come."

Admitting that she "hit a very big bump in the road," Twain goes on to say that she and her son Eja "are doing well and with all the concern you, my fans, have shown over this difficult period, I want you to see for yourself that we are doing fine."

Twain says "traveling has helped a great deal. I consider myself on a journey of discovery and recovery. I don't accept to be held down by the past, nor do I expect too much of the future. This allows me to dream freely with no strings attached." She also says she is now focused on being around fun, positive, compassionate, loving people. Loved ones I can trust."

The split between Twain and Lange came as a shocking surprise to many. They kept a very low profile given their fame, and rumors of infidelity on Lange's part only made the split more public and nasty.

Directly addressing her divorce, Twain says "the love and understanding of my friends and family have pulled me through the recent difficult time. It's as if several hands grabbed me by the scruff of the neck during my lowest moment and promised not to let go till I was safe. They kept their promise, and I want to thank them, my lifesavers."

Twain references "a dear friend and true gentleman" named Fred, who she says went through a divorce at the same time she did. "He understood me better than anyone. We leaned on one another through the ups and downs, taking turns holding each other up. We've become stronger and closer through it all, as have our children Eja and Johanna (Fred's 8 year old daughter)." She goes on to show video and photos of her recent travels.

"It's all very candid footage so be ready to see a lot of me without makeup, no touch ups, some bad hair and looking pretty goofy. There is no glamour but plenty of genuine smiles," Twain jokes about the video.

The pair jump from the plane and begin hurtling toward the ground.

Flash forward to a tour of the Swedish Alps, given by Fred, who drew a red heart in the snow with the words “I love you” written nearby.

The video was released on Twain’s website on Aug. 28, her birthday, along with a note letting fans know she’s doing better since the breakup with Mutt Lange, her former husband and music producer.

“When I wake up each day I remind myself how lucky I am to have all the beautiful things I do in my life and allow that gratitude to fuel me for the day, taking one day at a time,” she wrote.

Twain’s marriage to Lange fell apart last May following his alleged affair with Marie-Anne Thiebaud, a longtime secretary and manager of the couple’s chateau in Switzerland. Since then, Twain has relied on Thiebaud’s ex-husband, Frederic Thiebaud to heal.

In the video she travels to several different locations. It starts with her jumping from the plane in Key West, Fla., and she also travels to Egypt and Lebanon, always with Fred.

With all the time spent with this mystery man, fans must be wondering if she plans to get in front of a microphone anytime soon, or if the pair have been secretly hitched.

“I know something (about a secret wedding) was reported last week,” said Tracy Hautanen, manager at the Shania Twain Centre. “One of Shania’s reps put that rumour to bed. It did not take place.”

As for the lack of new music, Hautanen said fans are just excited she’s in the public again.

“They are anticipating new music, but the focus from what we’re seeing is how happy they are from knowing what she’s been up to.”

Twain has been keeping a low profile, aside from a brief appearance at the Country Music Association awards last November.

But this week she will be a guest judge on American Idol during the Chicago auditions, and she has reached out to fans by posting a personal letter and video travelogue on her website.

Reba McEntire hopes this will mark Twain’s reemergence onto the scene.

“The country music industry is ready for Shania Twain to come back, definitely,” said McEntire.

“You could see that at the CMA Awards. They gave her a standing ovation when she walked out on stage,” she said.

Taylor Swift recently gave credit to Twain “for always making theatrical videos,” during an acceptance speech at the Country Music Television awards. Swift said, “I take my cues from you.”

Earlier in the month Twain announced she’d have a surprise for fans on her birthday via her website.

Several contacted Hautanen at the Shania Twain Centre to see if she knew what the surprise might be; she didn’t.

The fans were counting down the minutes, Hautanen said, and now they’re happy to see what the country singer has been doing.

“They’re very excited to hear more,” Hautanen said.

Oddly enough, the fans weren’t surprised to see her jump out of a plane.

Hautenan said that is actually old news, at least for a true fan.

“A lot of people followed that in the media,” she said.

“There was some media publication about that, and the fans are happy to get an inside look at it, but it wasn’t overly new to them.”

As for mystery man Fred, Hautanen said the fans weren’t too surprised about that either.

“They haven’t really commented much on Fred. (The fans are) very happy she’s happy,” Hautenan said.

Twain said she was very happy where here new relationship has taken her.

“Fred and I have certainly had a lot of laughs through the months,” she wrote on her website.

“While sharing these images with a good friend ... after each trip, she now affectionately refers to us as, Lucy and Ricky Ricardo.”

Country singer Shania Twain has a new guy -- and she didn't have to go far from her Swiss château home to find him.

The country singer, who largely disappeared from the public eye in the last year after her marriage to record producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange fell apart, has been stepping out with tall, curly-haired Frédéric Thiébaud, described in the tabloid press as a 39-year-old triathlete and manager for Nestlé.

He's gorgeous, and the pair have a lot in common. Both of their marriages broke up after their spouses reportedly had affairs -- with each other.

Here's the spouse-swapping trail: Frédéric Thiébaud was married to Marie-Anne Thiébaud, Twain's friend and a secretary and manager of the couple's Swiss château. Marie-Anne was widely identified as the "other woman" who had a relationship with Mutt Lange, although the pair have denied having an affair.

Twain and Lange's 14-year marriage broke up just over a year ago, and they separated. That ended a highly lucrative partnership in which Lange produced the superstar's three blockbuster albums.

Now, Twain has hooked up with Frédéric.

In a letter posted recently on her website, Twain said she has made a point of surrounding herself with loving people whom she could trust.

"A dear friend and true gentleman by the name of Fred, has been the most constant companion of support for both Eja (her son) and me, and having gone through the suffering of his family splitting apart at the same time under the same extreme circumstances, he understood me better than anyone. We leaned on one another through the ups and downs, taking turns holding each other up. We've become stronger and closer through it all, as have our children Eja and Johanna (Fred's eight-year-old daughter).

In the letter, Twain said she has spent the last six months travelling, and working hard to "move on."

"I'm 'Okay,' " Twain writes on the website. "Yes, I hit a very big bump in the road, but Eja and I are doing well and with all the concern you, my fans, have shown over this difficult period, I want you to see for yourself that we are doing fine, by sharing these personal images with you."

She certainly looks happy in the video. Most of the video and photos were shot by Fred on his cellphone. Twain is shown skydiving and skiing; with the kids, riding camels in the Sinai desert; touring Lebanon; swimming with dolphins and riding a horse on a beach near the Red Sea. Her Christmas present from Fred, the video says, was a surprise trip in a Piper plane over the Swiss Alps for a picnic on a glacier. He went ahead and painted a big red heart and the word "love" in the snow.

Twain is set to appear as a guest judge on television singing contest American Idol during auditions this week. She made no mention of when she would be out with some new music.

There were several media publications about the sky dive in West Florida though, not just one. Tracy never visits this message board, therefore she wouldn't have seen our comments made about Fred on here. I don't know why people would think to contact the STC about the brithday gift, because they're not likely to divulge that sort of information to her fans even if they did know what it was. That's the whole point of it being a surprise!!!

Based on what Angie said about Shania graciously agreeing to do a monthly blog, I wonder when fans will be getting the next one? Personally, I can't see her doing a blog every month, but every 2-3 months at least. It may be hard for her to know what to put in them each time, especially if it doesn't touch on the music aspect.

Watched an interesting video today by mistake actually. I was looking for current news of Shania trying to see if anyone knew where she is right now. But an old Access Hollywood video link came up to when she was promoting the Starlight perfume. She was talking about there would be a new album released in 2008.
She said she couldn't say when in '08 because she couldn't tell yet how long it would take to finish. Got me to thinking that maybe there is a finished album out there that she and Mutt did but then the divorce derailed it all and now it is tied up in the divorce proceedings which could take years to unravel. But to think there may be a completed Shania album somewhere gathering dust while we wait. How sad.

Maybe all the media blitz is her hoping the legalities will get worked out and she can release that one. But then again maybe she destroyed it like Mutt did their marriage. Who knows? Only she does and him I guess. Just me thinking and dreaming...
