That would be great if Shania is a guest judge during the Chicago auditions! However, that doesn't mean she'll be a guest judge on the actual show (Top 12) which takes place in April and May. They do air auditions though.

Shania Twain may be joining "American Idol" for the Chicago auditions August 30th-31st.

From People's TV Watch: Apparently Shania Twain may be the next in the cavalcade of stars guest-judging on "American Idol" in the wake of Paula Abdul's departure.

This news seems a little more legitimate than the other rumors floating around. First I've been hearing whispers of a Jessica Simpson cameo, but her rep is debunking them. I'm going to put my money the fact that her dad Joe is the one starting the rumors because he can't seem to keep quiet about anything. I'm a bit surprised the rumor isn't that just Jessica Simpson's breasts are guest-judging on "American Idol."

There were also British blogging/tabloid stories about Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham being offered £3 million to replace Paula permanently. However, none of those stories can be verified. Those crazy Brits, always making up stories!

What do you guys think? Do you like Shania Twain as a guest judge? I don't necessarily like her music, but I think she has a beautiful voice and could make an excellent guest judge.

On Monday (August 17), it was rumored that Jessica Simpson would be the next celebrity to join Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell and Kara DioGuardi at the judges' table on "American Idol." But it turns out the only reality show Simpson will be on is her upcoming VH1 show "The Price of Beauty."

Simpson's rep shot down the New York Post report that she'd be one of the guest judges for the upcoming season of the show. "There is absolutely no truth to this," her rep told Us Weekly.

The report also said that it is her dad and manager, Joe Simpson, who was pushing to get Simpson a slot on the program, a claim he denied on his Twitter page. "So, I am in Thailand ... But, of course, the Post says I am in town trying to get [Jess] to be the replacement for Paula Abdul ... Do the lies ever stop????"

Meanwhile, People magazine is reporting that country star Shania Twain is in talks to be a guest judge. She could be one of the judges when the show makes a stop in Chicago on August 30 and 31, the mag reports.

If Twain does sign on, she'd be joining Mary J. Blige, who will guest-judge when the show stops in Atlanta. Katy Perry and Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham have also been confirmed as guest judges for this season, hoping to fill the void left by Paula Abdul's surprising exit.

The permanent solution for filling Abdul's empty chair has yet to be announced. Earlier this month, Peter Rice, chairman of entertainment at Fox, told Reuters that they'll be coming up with a replacement "between now and January. ... Obviously, there is going to be a different dynamic, [and] there is something exciting about that."

Paula Abdul Reportedly Wants to Return to “American Idol”

The cast members of the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars were announced today, and to the surprise of many, Paula Abdul’s name wasn’t among this year’s crew of waltzing celebrities (see the list at Us Weekly). According to the Los Angeles Times, even though ABC was among the most enthusiastic of the major networks vying for Abdul’s services after she announced she was leaving American Idol, Abdul and ABC have failed to come to agreeable terms to bring the former judge over. Negotiations have broken down so badly, the LA Times writes, that Abdul’s rumored cameo on next season’s Ugly Betty has also been called off.

So where does this leave Abdul? According to TMZ, the reason she didn’t join Dancing With the Stars was because she wanted to be able to join American Idol if the show’s producers finally met her $10 million contract demands. With ABC likely not happening, Abdul is reportedly hoping to rejoin American Idol, “sources” tell TMZ.

However, as Rock Daily reported last week, the money isn’t the only reason Abdul left Idol: Abdul felt that subtle jokes from her co-stars regarding her rumored drug addiction and her affair with a contestant reportedly cost Abdul a chance at a lucrative endorsement contract. Plus, Abdul wanted to be paid in the same ballpark as Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest.

Meanwhile, American Idol isn’t waiting around for Abdul to rejoin the judge’s table. After Victoria Beckham and Katy Perry previously filled in Abdul, People reports that both Mary J. Blige and Shania Twain will serve as temporary judges during the audition phase of Season Nine. Blige reportedly sat in during the Atlanta auditions, while Twain will sit beside Simon Cowell when Idol comes to Chicago on August 30th and 31st. Producers are reportedly still searching for a full-time fourth judge, with the New York Post’s Page Six reporting that Jessica Simpson is lobbying for the chance to Abdul’s vacant chair at the judge’s table. Us Weekly, however, has a quote from Simpson’s rep, who denies the report is true.

TORONTO — Timmins native Shania Twain once sang the lyrics “That don’t impress me much.” Now, she may get to utter those words to hopefuls on “American Idol.”

People.com is reporting the pop star from Timmins, Ont., is rumoured to be a possible candidate for a guest-judging position during the show’s upcoming auditions.

The website says there’s word that Twain may sit on the judging panel alongside Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell and Kara DioGuardi in Chicago on Aug. 30 to 31.

She would be a guest replacement for Paula Abdul, who recently announced she would not be returning to the show.

Recording artists Victoria Beckham, a.k.a. Posh Spice, and Mary J. Blige have already filled in for Abdul during the casting tour.

Twain hasn’t released an album of new material since 2002’s “Up!”

A posting on her website says the 43-year-old will give fans “a present” on her birthday on Aug. 28.

Shania Twain is the latest name being tipped to temporarily fill the “American Idol” seat left vacant by Paula Abdul.

Rumors have surfaced that the mega-selling pop-country crossover star is set to “Come on Over” to the judging panel, joining Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi at an upcoming “Idol” audition.

Contestants in Chicago just might get to hear “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” coming from the Canadian singer when they show the judges what they’ve got on August 30 and 31, according to People.

A rep for “Idol” had no comment on the report, while a rep for the Canadian singer was not immediately available for comment when contacted by Access Hollywood.

And while it appears as if Shania is the latest female gearing up for a seat on the panel, Jessica Simpson is not.

The blonde country singer’s dad shot down a report in the New York Post that he is working to get his daughter Paula’s vacant position.

“So, I am in thailand… But, of course, the post says I am in town trying to get [Jessica] to be the replacement for paula abdul…. Do the lies ever stop????”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Victoria Beckham recently filled in as guest judge. Katy Perry and Mary J. Blige have also been tapped to help out, but have not yet filmed their spots.

This would be great if it is true. So many rumors but nothing official from anyone. I guess we will have to wait and see if she shows up in the US on those dates. Then we may have our answer. The show won't air right away so we will have to wait a while to actually see the show but I'm sure we will know around that date if it is true or not. How awesome though. Maybe we should all go to Chicago and try out just to see Shania. I'd tell them right off that I can't sing worth a darn I just wanted the chance to meet Shania. Would be worth being eaten alive by Simon to see Shania. Wonder if Simon would keep his hands to himself with Shania sitting next to him. But what a cool birthday present for Shania if she does do this and also what a cool present to add to our list of presents we get anyway on Shania's birthday with the new site and a possible video blog from Shania. It really will be Christmas in August for us.

I'm trying to think of other guest judges for the audition phase from past seasons of AI. I know Jewel was one a few seasons ago. And now Shania will join Mary J Blige and Posh Spice this year.

Guest judges during the audition phase, though, are different from Judges/Mentors during the finals. AI has had some pretty big names as Mentors, such as Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, J-Lo, Martina McBride, etc.

I'm actually surprised that Shania is just an audition guest judge, rather than a mentor for the finalists. The mentor role is more serious, while the guest judge role has to sit through the silly/awful acts that fill the auditions phase. Like William Hung! biggrin

I'm sure if it is true we will get some new pictures soon now and I just can't wait till we do. It has been a while since we have seen her anywhere. Been too long since we had any news really. Long Shania dry spell. It will be nice to be bombarded with news and pictures again. Still won't believe all this untill it happens though. Now would be the perfect time for her to be on Oprah or some of the other talk shows and morning shows again just to talk about her career plans. I hope all these talk shows and morning shows will take advantage of this and try to get her on their shows. Lots of people would like to see her and hear from her again even if there is no new music to sell or promote right now or anytime soon. I hope there is a real media frenzy which help prove to her and many other naysayers just how important to music and to her fans that she really is even though she has been gone for a while.

Actually I disagree. AI has had some really low level acts be mentors too.
Also they have had some middle of the road acts perform on their final shows.

Marry J Blige who is a music icon and Shania who is a music icon will probably be bigger than any mentor they will have this year.
And Shania may be a mentor too later on in the year.
Madonna was a guest judge on the U.k. x factor which is just like American idol.

Victoria Beckham started the trend, swiftly followed by R&B star Mary J Blige, and now Shania Twain is the latest star lined up to guest judge on American Idol.

The Ontario-born That Don't Impress Me Much singer will fill Paula Abdul's now vacant spot and join fellow panel members Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi for the audition rounds in Chicago, People reports.

Hopefuls will be able to impress Shania on August 30 and 31 when the 43-year-old artist will use her expertise to help judge on the show.

The dates not only mark the Canadian star's Idol debut, but they also come hot on the heels of her August 28 birthday.

Meanwhile, as Shania prepares to turn her attention to rising music stars, her own fans are patiently waiting for new material from the Grammy Award-winning brunette.

Despite the fact she hasn't released a new album in seven years, a spokesman for Shania's record label recently confirmed a new record from the singer is "nowhere is sight."

It has been a tough year for the mum-of-one, with the announcement in May 2008 that her 14-year marriage to Robert Lange was ending, but Shania has acknowledged her supporters' long wait.

"First I want to apologise for the delay in releasing new music," she wrote on her official blog in June. "Music is the basis of our relationship, after all, and I realise I'm not holding up very well on my end of the relationship!"

Speaking of the hit FOX reality show, Pop Tarts has learned that Season One winner Kelly Clarkson and a Jonas Brother will join forces at next week's audition series as celeb judges to find the next singing sensation.

The move is quite a surprise on Clarkson's behalf as she has spent the last several years working hard to separate herself from the reality program. But according to a source close to the Clarkson camp, she's beyond excited to get back to the show that started it all.

Other celeb superstars joining Simon, Randy and Kara for Season 9 include Shania Twain, Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham and Mary J Blige.

"At this stage it doesn't look like Paula will be replaced by one person," an insider told Tarts. "The celebrity judges are working really well for now."

They should offer her a permanent spot as a judge. She probably wouldn't do it because of having to move to the US and having to upset Eja but wouldn't that be cool. Depending on custody arrangements if she only has Eja every 6 months she could live here and do the show then. I know she won't but it would be cool to get to see her that often and that much. Then we would really be able to stay connected to her. biggrin

“American Idol” is wasting no time in filling Paula Abdul’s judging chair — with guest judges, anyway.

Last week, Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham was a guest judge for the show’s second round of auditioners in Boston and Denver, and singer Mary J. Blige helped comb through candidates in Atlanta. When the judging panel returns to Chicago at the end of the month, the guest judge will be Shania Twain.

Country singer Shania Twain will be a guest judge in Chicago for "American Idol."

People.com reports the country music superstar will fill Abdul’s vacant chair when “American Idol” reassesses its Chicago competitors Aug. 30-31. A location for the event has not been announced.

“Idol” auditions were held in Chicago in June. This second round is the point of the show where judges give singers a golden ticket to advance to the Hollywood round.

“American Idol” returns for its ninth season in January.

I think we will see her before then. Especially if you are a fanclub member as I think we will see her in a video blog before then and also you know the media in Chicago will be on the lookout for her and she will probably go home to Canada before or after the taping since she will be over here anyway but that is just guessing on my part about the Canada part. But I think for sure the tabloids will be on her trail in Chicago and she will probably have Fred with her as I don't imagine she will travel alone. Anyway we will at least have pictures. They will most likely be papparazzi pictures and such. Maybe they will also do promo pictures for her appearance. That would be cool. Just my thoughts.
