Exclusive: Despite ring-bearing pics, Shania's rep denies engagement

Sights of Shania Twain and her boyfriend Frederic Thiebaud in Muskoka this week have sparked rumours of a possible engagement, or perhaps even a secret marriage. But HELLO! Canada has learned exclusively from her publicist that neither is true.

Despite both sporting bands on their ring fingers, Shania’s rep told us, “She is not married and not engaged.”

Ahead of her turn as a guest judge on American Idol the Ontario-born star took the week off to relax and enjoy her summer home in Lake of Bays, near Huntsville, with her son Eja, her beau Frederic, and his young daughter, Johanna.

The group of four enjoyed each other’s company, and the many water toys at their disposal. Frederic and the kids had a blast jumping up and down on an inflatable trampoline and he later took Eja out for a spin on the jet ski.

The businessman and triathlete was a good friend of Shania and her ex, Robert “Mutt” Lange. It was his wife, Marie-Anne, who was the reported cause of Shania’s marital split, and the country singer has since sought comfort in Frederic’s company.

In great spirits, the pair also visited a local Wal-Mart to stock up the cottage and later took the kids to see a wild bird show with family friends.

The That Don’t Impress Me Much singer - who turns 44 on Friday - sent fans a teaser video last week.

Sitting in the garden at home in Switzerland, accompanied by two of her dogs, she began saying, "First to start I want to thank you for all the beautiful birthday wishes for Eja's birthday," in reference to her eight-year-old son.

"Secondly, if you haven’t already seen on my website, for August 28 on my birthday, I will be giving a small gift of thanks for all of your support over the last year."

This, coupled with the ring-bearing pictures, lead some to believe that a secret wedding had taken place, but according to reports, the gift in question could be a video travelogue of the singer’s adventures since she and Mutt parted ways in May 2008.

The photo on the cover of HELLO with Shania, Fred and shopping cart is in Star! as well. The photos are pretty much the same as we have seen before. On the lawn, Shania in fuschia pink top, black shorts etc... Hello has a few more pictures of Eja and Johanna from a distance.

Thanks for the scans, Tara. I'm sure it's hard to get the pages of the magazine to fit properly under the scanner, which explains why the lowest lines are cut off. In the article it states that a young cousin joined them. I wonder who that is? And is that a water gun I see in their Walmart shopping cart?

^^^ Thanks 'twain2country' - the pages are a little to long for the scanner, you are right.
Not sure who the cousin is with Eja and Johanna. In the cart is a water 'sword' actually. It is called a bubble sword. I saw it at Walmart in Toronto (Scarborough)

If there is a line or two missing, let me know where, and I'll tell you what it says.

On the first page something is missing under the picture: “…Shania’s former friend and personal assistant, Marie-Anne Thiébaud – was…”.rumoured to have had an affair with Shania's husband, Mutt Lange.

On the second page after “…wearing on their ring fingers that really caused a stir - a silver and diamond band.…” – something is missing again. And on the same page some part of photo description is also missing after “Here the singer and Frédéric sport similar silver rings on their left ring fingers…”

And on the last page the endings of three paragraphs are missing:

1.    After “…and Eja and Johanna couldn’t wait to get into the water leaving their parents behind to splash in the lake…”;

2.    After “The family was clearly delighted as…the wild birds swooped overhead. But the youngsters couldn't wait to”;

I've just noticed they wrote that she recorded video message with her dogs Dolly and Tim. Is it a mistake? I thought Tim had passed away in 2003?

Tim did pass,i believe the other dogs name is Sony

Yes, that is a mistake. Shania's dog, 'tim' passed away a few years ago. Shania did not mention the other dog's name, only Dolly. I'm sure she gave the other dog another name, as Shania is a pretty creative person.
The writers for HELLO! and Star and others get some facts right, but mostly, they are grasping at straws and they assume a lot of stuff.
You can see from Shania's travelogue video that she and Fred are clearly a very, very close couple and they even take family/kid holidays together.
They may or may not get married, I'm sure it doesn't matter to them at this point after their recent splits.  It is just great to see them so happy!

Can we say she isn't divorced yet?It won't be announced by the swiss because of their privacy laws.But then again maybe thats why they are wearing promise rings rather than a engagement ring.It would be strange to be engaged before you are divorced.

I read somewhere Fred's divorce started about a year before Shania and Mutt split.I guess with all the money and property that has to be split with Shania and Mutt it is probably going to take longer,and if their fighting it could take even longer.

Has anyone else noticed that Hello Canada got the name of one of her dogs wrong, they said Tim - it just goes to show they print anything without checking their facts first.
