The reigning CMA Male and Female Vocalists of the Year, Brad Paisley (left) and Carrie Underwood (right), unite to host "The 43rd Annual CMA Awards." "The 43rd Annual CMA Awards" will be broadcast live from the Sommet Center in Nashville, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11 (8:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

NASHVILLE -- The reigning CMA Male and Female Vocalists of the Year, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, will reunite to host "The 43rd Annual CMA Awards." This will be the second consecutive time that Paisley and Underwood have hosted "Country Music's Biggest NightT." "The 43rd Annual CMA Awards" airs live from the Sommet Center in Nashville, Wednesday, Nov. 11 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the ABC Television Network.

"We are thrilled to have Brad and Carrie return as hosts after doing such a great job last year," said Tammy Genovese, CMA Chief Executive Officer. "Both Brad and Carrie are in their prime as artists, as evidenced by them being named Male and Female Vocalist of the Year, respectively, last year. They each possess a great sense of humor and timing, which are two essential ingredients for hosting the Awards."

"I am thrilled to get the chance to co-host the CMAs for a second time with my pal Carrie," said Paisley. "This year we'll pull out all the stops, like a miniature poodle balancing act, tightrope walking, and a new world record for the number of costume changes by my co-host. Don't miss it!"

"I regret to inform Brad that I do not have a poodle, and I would appreciate it if he asks me permission before he tries on all my dresses this year," responded Underwood. "But all kidding aside, I'm really excited to be hosting again this year with my friend, Brad, as we celebrate another wonderful year of Country Music! It's going to be a great show!"

Paisley has won 11 CMA Awards since receiving the Horizon Award in 2000, including Male Vocalist (2007, 2008) and Album (2006 for Time Well Wasted). He also won Musical Event twice, first in 2004 with Alison Krauss for "Whiskey Lullaby," and second in 2006 for "When I Get Where I'm Going" with Dolly Parton; Vocal Event in 2001 for "Too Country" with Bill Anderson, George Jones and Buck Owens; and Music Video of the Year three times, first in 2002 for "I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song);" second in 2004 for "Whiskey Lullaby" (again with Krauss), and third in 2007 for "Online." He is currently tied with Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw at No. 5 on the list of top CMA Award winners.

Paisley is a consummate singer, songwriter, guitarist and entertainer, which has also earned him three Grammy Awards. He has released eight critically acclaimed studio albums that have accumulated sales of over 10 million units, including the Double Platinum-certified Time Well Wasted. His most recent album, American Saturday Night, released on June 30 and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums sales chart. Paisley has 14 No.1 singles - the last 10 consecutive - extending a streak already unmatched by any other Country artist in the 19-year history of Nielsen BDS- monitored airplay. He is also a featured performer on "CMA Music Festival: Country's Night to Rock," airing Monday, Aug. 31 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Underwood has received 5 CMA Awards in her young career, including three consecutive wins as Female Vocalist (2006-2008), as well as Single of the Year (2007 for "Before He Cheats") and the Horizon Award (2006).

Underwood, after wrapping her 2008 concert tour with 1.2 million fans in attendance, launched into early 2009 as the first Country artist in history to achieve 10 No. 1 singles from their first two albums, when "I Told You So" became her tenth single to top a key sales or airplay chart and her fifth consecutive chart-topper from Carnival Ride. To date, Underwood, who has also won four Grammy Awards, is the U.S. best-selling "American Idol" winner with album sales over 10 million. Underwood will release a new album on Nov. 3 on 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville with producer Mark Bright, who helmed 2007's hit-filled Carnival Ride, as well as seven tracks (including four No. 1 singles ) from Underwood's blockbuster 2005 debut, Some Hearts.

Tickets for the 2009 CMA Awards will go on sale to the public on Sept. 19, and can be purchased by logging on to www.ticketmaster.com; calling (800) 745-3000; or in person at the Sommet Center box office, 501 Broadway (corner of Fifth Avenue and Broadway, in Nashville). Thoughts on Taylor Swift's CMA Entertainer of the Year Nomination
Posted: September 22nd, 2009 | By: Alison Bonaguro

By now, everyone probably knows Taylor Swift has been nominated for the CMA entertainer of the year award. And if you've ever been to one of her concerts, you know why. She doesn't just sing. She pours her heart and soul and charm and sense of humor into every minute she spends on stage. I've never seen her do a show where she's just going through the motions. But what did surprise me about this nomination is that she's the first solo female singer to even be nominated in nine long years. In 2000, Faith Hill was nominated, and in 1999 Shania Twain actually won it. Nine years is too long. I hope Swift paves the way for more top-tier female talent. And if she does win, let's not wait a decade before another female takes home that EOTY trophy.

NASHVILLE — Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift will be among the star-packed list of performers at the 43rd Annual CMA Awards show, organizers announced Monday.

Others slated to perform include Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Reba McEntire, Darius Rucker, George Strait, Sugarland and Keith Urban.

Paisley racked up six nominations, including a nod for entertainer of the year, to lead the field of nominees for the CMA's announced last month. The 36-year-old singer was also nominated for male vocalist, album for "American Saturday Night," single and song for "Then," and music video for "Start a Band" with Keith Urban.

Swift became the first female artist to receive a nod for entertainer of the year since Faith Hill in 2000. Shania Twain was the last female artist to win the coveted honor, scoring her victory in 1999. In another first for the 19-year-old singer, she was nominated for album of the year for "Fearless."

Strait, meanwhile, now has 79 career CMA Awards nominations, tying him with Alan Jackson. He leads the trophy count with 22 during the course of his distinguished career.

Another artist looking to add to their trophy count is Underwood, who picked up two nods. The former "American Idol" star will be in search of her fourth straight female vocalist of the year title.

Rucker, who released his debut solo country album in 2008, received his first two CMA nominations for new artist and male vocalist.

This year's ceremony, which will be hosted by Paisley and Underwood, will air live from the Sommet Center in Nashville on Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Taylor Swift is nominated for four CMA Awards. "The 43rd Annual CMA Awards," will be held Wednesday, Nov. 11 and broadcast live by the ABC Television Network from The Sommet Center in Nashville.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The final list of nominees for "The 43rd Annual CMA Awards" features fresh faces in 10 of the 12 CMA Awards categories with new artists layered throughout the finalist field, the continued dominance of the established superstars, and crossover favorites making huge gains in 2009.

"The 43rd Annual CMA Awards" will be broadcast live from the Sommet Center in Nashville, Wednesday, Nov.11 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the ABC Television Network. Reigning CMA Male and Female Vocalist of the Year Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood return for a second year to host "County Music's Biggest NightT."

"It is great for the format and speaks to the strength of our music and talent of our artists that there are so many new faces on the list of nominees this year," said Tammy Genovese, CMA Chief Executive Officer. "With more than a quarter of the nominees making their debut in 2009, representing a variety of major and independent labels, there will be a heightened level of excitement and anticipation for the CMA Awards in November."

For the fourth year, the announcement of the final nominees in five of the 12 CMA Awards categories was made on ABC News' "Good Morning America." Darius Rucker and Lee Ann Womack delivered the news from the "Good Morning America" studios in the heart of New York City's Times Square. The remaining categories were announced by Randy Houser on "Insider Special Edition: 2009 CMA Awards Nominations" live from CMT's network studios in Nashville, hosted by CMT personalities Cody Alan and Alecia Davis.

At the conclusion of the announcements, Paisley led the list of finalists with six nominations. Paisley was nominated for Entertainer; Male Vocalist; Album for American Saturday Night, which was produced by Frank Rogers and Chris DuBois; Single and Song for "Then" (DuBois and Ashley Gorley are also nominated as songwriters); and Music Video for "Start a Band" with Keith Urban, which was directed by Jim Shea.

Urban, along with Jamey Johnson, George Strait, Taylor Swift, and Zac Brown (frontman of the Zac Brown Band), each received four nominations.

George Strait received nominations for Entertainer; Male Vocalist; Music Video for "Troubadour" directed by Trey Fanjoy; and Musical Event with Lee Ann Womack for "Everything But Quits" (a category they won in 2005 with "Good News, Bad News"). Strait now has 79 career CMA Awards nominations, which ties him with Alan Jackson for the most nominations to date. He leads the trophy count with 22.

Taylor Swift has four nominations including her first for Entertainer of the Year. The last time a solo female artist was nominated for Entertainer of the Year was Faith Hill in 2000. Shania Twain was the last female artist to claim the trophy in 1999. Swift, who won the Horizon Award in 2007, is also nominated for Female Vocalist (she received her first nomination in the category in 2008); and Music Video for "Love Story," which was directed by Trey Fanjoy. In another first for the 19-year-old artist, she is nominated for Album of the Year for Fearless. Swift may also receive a second trophy for producing Fearless with Nathan Chapman.

Keith Urban's nominations include Entertainer; Male Vocalist; Music Video for "Start a Band" with Paisley; and Album of the Year for Defying Gravity. Urban is eligible to win a second trophy in the Album category for producing Defying Gravity with Dann Huff. Huff is also a nominee for Musician of the Year.

Jamey Johnson's list of nominations includes New Artist; Single and Song for "In Color" (which Johnson co-wrote with Lee Thomas Miller and James Otto); and Album of the Year for That Lonesome Song, which was produced by The Kent Hardly Playboys. These are Johnson's first artist nominations. In 2007, as a songwriter he won Song of the Year for George Strait's "Give It Away," which he co-wrote with Bill Anderson and Buddy Cannon.

Zac Brown claims his first CMA Awards nominations in 2009 - three with his self-named group and one for penning their hit "Chicken Fried." The Zac Brown Band received nominations for New Artist; Vocal Group; and Single of the Year for "Chicken Fried," which was produced by Keith Stegall. Zac Brown picked up the additional nomination for Song of the Year for writing "Chicken Fried" with Wyatt Durrette.

A powerhouse in the Entertainer of the Year category, Kenny Chesney has won the trophy in 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2008, which ties him with Garth Brooks for the most wins in the category. Chesney is nominated again in 2009, in addition to nods for Male Vocalist and Musical Event with Mac McAnally for "Down the Road." McAnally is also nominated for Musician of the Year along with Eddie Bayers, Paul Franklin, and Brent Mason.

Darius Rucker wasn't only handing out the good news today, he was a recipient. The lead vocalist and songwriter for the pop group Hootie & The Blowfish, received his first CMA Awards nominations as a solo Country artist in 2009 for New Artist and Male Vocalist of the Year. He performed on the 2008 CMA Awards.

After winning Female Vocalist of the Year in 2006, 2007, and 2008, Carrie Underwood is back in 2009 with two nominations for Female Vocalist and Musical Event for "I Told You So," featuring Randy Travis. Travis picked up a second nomination for Song of the Year, for writing "I Told You So." Travis' version of the hit song was nominated for Single and Song of the Year in 1988.

If Underwood wins the Female Vocalist trophy again, it will tie her with Martina McBride (1999, 2002-2004) and Reba McEntire (1984-1987) for most wins in this category. McBride and McEntire are each nominated in the Female Vocalist category in 2009. Miranda Lambert is also a Female Vocalist nominee.

McEntire scored a second nomination for her performance with Brooks & Dunn on "Cowgirl's Don't Cry" for Musical Event of the Year. In doing so, she retains her position as the female artist with the highest number of nominations in the 43-year history of the CMA Awards with 48.

Brooks & Dunn have been presented 19 trophies during their career. In 2009, Brooks & Dunn have nomination for Musical Event with McEntire for "Cowgirls Don't Cry" and are nominated for Vocal Duo, a category they have won a record 14 times.

The reigning Vocal Duo crown is in Sugarland's hands. The duo was nominated in the category again in 2009 and also picked up a nomination for Album of the Year for Love on the Inside. Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles may also win an additional trophy each for producing the album with Byron Gallimore.

A new entry in the Vocal Duo of the Year category this year is Joey + Rory. Also nominated are Big & Rich and Montgomery Gentry.

Until 2008, there was a long dry spell for the Eagles between nominations for Vocal Group of the Year (1976, 1977, 2008) but they are back in 2009. The Zac Brown Band is the new addition to the category along with returning nominees Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, and Rascal Flatts, who have swept the Vocal Group of the Year category the past six years.

Reigning New Artist of the Year Lady Antebellum received a second nomination for Single of the Year for "I Run To You," which was produced by Victoria Shaw and Paul Worley.

Artists making their debut in the New Artist of the Year category (formerly the Horizon Award) include Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, Jake Owen, Darius Rucker, and the Zac Brown Band. Artists can only be included in this category two times.

Houser received a second nomination for Music Video of the Year for "Boots On," which was directed by Eric Welch. Rounding out the Music Video category is Billy Currington's "People Are Crazy," which was directed by The Brads. The song hit a chord with CMA Awards voters and picked up additional nominations for Single and Song of the Year for writers Bobby Braddock and Troy Jones. Currington, who has two nominations, can receive an additional trophy for producing the Single of the Year with Carson Chamberlain. Currington's last nomination was in 2005 for Musical Event with Shania Twain for "Party for Two."

Making their debut in the Musical Event category are The Raconteurs with Ricky Skaggs and Ashley Monroe for "Old Enough." Raconteurs' frontman Jack White, of The White Stripes and The Dead Weather, is no stranger to the format as the producer of Loretta Lynn's critically hailed album Van Lear Rose. Skaggs received his last nomination in this category in 1999 for "Same Old Train," which included a veritable who's who of Country stars.

The 2008 CMA Awards, held in Nashville during November Sweeps (Nov. 12), ranked behind only the Academy Awards and Grammy Awards during the 2008-2009 season for awards shows among total viewers. With "The 42nd Annual CMA Awards," ABC won Wednesday evening in both total viewers (15.9 million) and adults 18-49 (5.0/13). According to Nielsen research, 34.6 million unique viewers 2+ watched six minutes or more of the program.

The CMA Awards nominees and winners are determined by the 6,000 plus industry professional members of CMA, which was the first trade organization formed to promote an individual genre of music in 1958. The first "CMA Awards Banquet and Show" was held in 1967. The following year, the CMA Awards were broadcast on NBC television for the first time - making it the longest running, annual music awards program on network television. The show aired on NBC through 1971 and on the CBS Television Network from 1972 through 2005 before moving to ABC in 2006.

Winners of "The 43rd Annual CMA Awards" will be determined in a final round of voting by eligible voting members of the Country Music Association. CMA Awards balloting is officiated by the international accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche LLP.

In addition to live coverage of today's events, "Insider Special Edition: 2009 CMA Awards Nominations" will re-air on CMT immediately following the live broadcast at 10:30 AM ET/PT (9:30 AM/CT); and Saturday, Sept. 12 at 1:30 PM ET/PT (12:30 PM/CT) and Sunday Sept. 13 at 11:00 AM ET/PT (10:00 AM/CT). CMT.com will stream the nomination special following its on-air premiere and post breaking news coverage on the site in a special online edition of "Insider News Now."

duet with rock band Daughtry.

Other performers announced today include Jason Aldean, Billy Currington, Lady
Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, and Zac Brown Band. "The 43rd Annual CMA Awards,"

The superstar, who has sold more than 40 million albums and dominated the

In their debut CMA Awards performance, Grammy-nominated rock band Daughtry
joins Country Music Hall of Fame member Gill for a duet of "Tennessee Line,"

rock debut album in SoundScan history, selling more than five million copies
worldwide.

Gill has won 18 CMA Awards, including Entertainer (1993, 1994), Male Vocalist

It might be Tim McGraw. Angie poted on the Officiial Fan Club board that Shania won't be attending the CMAs on November 11.

Taylor Swift to open CMA Awards

Taylor Swift has been announced as the opening act for Wednesday's 43rd Annual CMA Awards. Swift, with four nominations, will kick off the country music awards show November 11.

Swift's performance comes on the heels of her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live. Other performers include Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews, Reba McEntire, Sugarland, Martina McBride, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw and others.

CMA CEO Tammy Genovese said, "Taylor is the perfect choice as the opening act for the 2008 CMA Awards. Her charisma, charm, popularity, and talent will set the stage for an evening you won't soon forget. We know her fans will want to stay tuned to see what she does next."

Swift is nominated for album of the year, music video, best female artist, and may finally upset Chesney for entertainer of the year.

A surprise guest is also performing after being away for four years. Rumors abound on whether it could be Garth Brooks who last appeared on the show in 2005 and is coming out of retirement for a run in Las Vegas or Shania Twain, who surprised guests on the show last year.

The show is hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley and will air live on ABC.

RE: CMA Nominees Announced - CMA Awards Nov. 11

Taylor Swift Dominates CMA Awards

This is Taylor Swift’s world and we’re all just living in it. Tonight at the 43rd Annual CMA Awards, Taylor took home awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year AND Entertainer of the Year.

Backstage in the press room, Taylor told the media how she was going to celebrate.

“Tonight I’m just gonna dance around and freak out,” she said, “because I never imagined that the unattainable thing I always held in my imagination would happen to me at 19. I couldn’t be more grateful but I love a challenge, and right now the challenge is to find that next challenge.”

Also backstage, show co-host — and Male Vocalist of the Year winner – Brad Paisley commented on Taylor’s win.

“Next year we’re not gonna take any opening acts out,” joked Brad, referring to the fact that Taylor opened for him this year on tour. ”Kidding…couldn’t be prouder of her.  She has taken the music world by storm. She’s the biggest artist in music by far right now. It’s a hands down she’s the entertainer in country music now.  [She] has an amazing amount of natural talent and momentum.  Her team is also doing everything right.  I’m not at all surprised at how fast she’s gone.”

Taylor Swift wins entertainer of the year

The teenage singer is the first female performer to win since Shania Twain a decade ago

FIRST POSTED NOVEMBER 12, 2009

The 19-year-old country music sensation Taylor Swift became the first female singer since Shania Twain a decade ago to win entertainer of the year at the Country Music Association (CMA) awards last night. Swift dominated the awards, taking four in total, including album of the year for Fearless, America's top-selling CD of 2009.

The Nashville-based CMA, which has more than 5,000 members, is often seen as conservative. Yet they voted for Swift (pictured performing at the awards) above four far more established male performers, including Kenny Chesney who has won the entertainer award four times in the past five years, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and veteran singer George Strait.

All four will be kicking themselves: they helped raise her profile by asking the teenager to open for them in their concerts. But Paisley for one was magnanimous: "She has taken the music world by storm. She's the biggest artist in music right now, by far. It's hands down. She's entertainer of the year in country music, no doubt, and I'm really proud of her."

Swift cried as she accepted the entertainer of the year award, saying: "I will never forget this moment." The singer, who also won video of the year for her single Love Story and was named top female vocalist, thanked the fans for their support of Fearless when she collected best album of the year. "You guys, this album is my diary, and so to all the people who voted for me, this is a thank you for saying you love my diary, because that's the nicest compliment."

The award caps off a spectacular year for Swift: she has enjoyed not only a best-selling album but also a sell-out concert tour of the United States. darkerbullet.gif

Swift's trophy shelf expands after CMAs
She is youngest entertainer of the year

Associated Press
Thursday, November 12, 2009

NASHVILLE -- Taylor Swift made history at the Country Music Awards on Wednesday night, becoming the youngest person to win entertainer of the year.

The tearful 19-year-old -- who led all performers with four awards, including album of the year -- cried as she accepted her trophy and said, "I will never forget this moment." No woman had won the award since Shania Twain in 1999.

Swift thanked the fans for their support of "Fearless," the top-selling album of the year. She also won video of the year for "Love Story." "You guys, this album is my diary and so to all the people who voted for me, this is a thank-you for saying you love my diary because that's the nicest compliment," Swift told the audience.

Across all genres, Swift is this year's No. 2 music artist in sales -- trailing only Michael Jackson.

Darius Rucker became the first black singer to win the CMA new artist of the year award, joining Charley Pride as the only African American to win a major individual CMA award. Rucker, whose first country album, "Learn to Live," sold more than 1 million copies, took the stage and shouted, "What a year!"

Lady Antebellum won awards for vocal group and single of the year. The win in vocal group ended Rascal Flatts' six-year dominance in that category. Jamey Johnson, along with James Otto and Lee Thomas Miller, won song of the year for "In Color."

"I think that you can't help but talk about Taylor Swift when you talk about modern country music," Otto said. "People talk about pop country or country pop. Whatever brings more fans to country music I'm all for."

Co-hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood opened the show with a few new songs of their own, skewering Kanye West for his interruption of Swift's MTV Video Music Awards win -- singing, "Mama, don't let your babies grow up to be Kanye" -- and lamenting the breakup of Brooks & Dunn.

Later in the show, telecast on ABC, country novelty singer Little Jimmy Dickens interrupted Paisley after Underwood told him that "Welcome to the Future" was one her favorite videos.

"Excuse me, sir, excuse me. I'll let you finish later. Now, Brad Paisley, I know you had a nice video, but . . . Taylor Swift made the best video in her time. You go, girl," the diminutive Dickens said, goofing on West, who famously took the stage during Swift's acceptance speech to say that Beyoncé deserved Swift's prize.

Ratings Returns: CMA's Win BIG for ABC
16.8-Million Viewers

ABC-TV's investment in COUNTRY paid-off big as last night's early ratings returns are saying that 16.8-million people watched the show--24% more than watched this year's Emmys.

All that totalled up to a 10.1-Rating/16-Share. Furthermore, the CMA's won each time-slot during the show's 3-hour run. In that all-important 18-49 demo, ABC scored a 5.2-rating/14-share.
