John Lennon once famously boasted that The Beatles were bigger than Jesus. He was probably right but the Fab Four should start kneeling before the Guitar Hero Lords of Rock if this week's video game chart is anything to go by. 

Guitar Hero 5 has triumphed in the ultimate battle of the virtual bands, having outsold The Beatles: Rock Band to capture the coveted No.1 spot in the UK.

This is despite John, Paul, George and Ringo having a two day release head start on its big rival and an absolutely massive marketing campaign boosted by a pretty-much-worldwide Beatles week to celebrate the band's 40th anniversary. 

GH5, which takes to the virtual rock stage with a more accessible playlist, enters the all-format chart at the pinnacle for the first time in its Guitar Hero history, with Liverpool's finest in fourth place behind Colin McCrae DiRT 2 and Batman: Arkham Asylum. 

However, the battle for Christmas supremacy is a Long and Winding Road for sure and we wouldn't mind betting a few quid that The Beatles Get Back to where they once belonged at the top of the charts.
