Why would I get banned! I told the truth I am a fan of Tommy but it was a shock for him to go that far and say she would be there. It up sets me as a Canadian that she never even attended such a event that will never happen in Canada again. We had a crappy artist perform and I waited it belief that Shania Twain would be there. I tuned in toTommy's site and he said it from reports but dam it makes me mad to make such a huge announcement when in relaity it was not even true. I am sorry but dam Shania should have attended this because if she were true Canadian she would. She is to busy with Fred Getting a tan and her next letter blog to fans will be the same as before that she is still writing. If you all seriously think a new album in coming out this year then I hope you have a much faith as you did seeing her perform tonight

Shania's cousin/nanny even said she would be at the Closing Ceremonies - and NBC reported it and Canada's Global National and many other media outlets picked up on it.

For some reason, the Olympics keeps its performers a secret - who knows why - maybe to keep it special......

Global National is getting trashed because of this.

I can't blame them if they SAW Shania rehearsing though. Maybe something really bad happened. Maybe Shania's cousin will tweet about it.

...and this thread is not about a new album coming out or not - it is exclusively about Shania at the Olympics.

You guys, Shania never made a mention in her Official Website about performing so how could anybody expect her to be there. She would want to put this information out all over the place and not make a secret surprise performance. She has been gone for the past 5 years from the stage and would make a very public and triumphant performance. I don't blame Tommy because he got a little over excited, but the networks and wack jobs who gave the wrong info. Looks like networks are become like tabloids like TMZ where they talk about secret sources and false rumours. A sad day in the media and not just because Shania didn't show up. Networks are becoming like the yellow journalism of the 19th century. Pretty soon they'll say that they saw a three headed baby and will interview its mother.

Sure it is Tommy's Fault. I think he should have gotten his facts straight before he made such stupid announcements that were not true. I think he needs to learn to stop listening to Google and let Shania Twain make the announcements herself on her website before he crushes her fans like a pile of bricks

As mentioned on one of the 'other' forums - AN NBC ANNOUNCER actually reported and announced on AIR that Shania Twain would perform.

I would be really upset if no one had warned me about Shania - and then missed it.

This is live television. Basically the biggest show on the planet. Logistics that are mind blowing. Something got screwed up - but it is not Tommy's fault to report NEWS about Shania - that is what he does.

And TONS of people re-tweeted Kevin Newman from Global Nationals report about Shania at rehearsals. Tommy - please feel free to edit/delete the Shania haters on this forum.

Well the mainstream media needs to get its facts STRAIGHT or else it's going to start looking like TMZ and the National Enquirer pretty soon. I already suspect that segments of the media are not credible, but at least they still act like they're serious.

I don't think Shania's the type of woman to break down just because her cousin is talking to the press. Besides she's smart and old enough to know who to tell her business to. She's been more open lately and it isn't that big of a deal that her young cousin's talking. The girl's not talking about things that are damaging to Shania's reputation. If Shania can be open enough with the world about her crying spells after Mutt left her and share video footage of her and Fred on family trips then this is minor, really. Families that are close and loving communicate things before going to the press. I don't think she could be so upset that she'd skip out on performing at the Olympics. She's had worse things happen to her and the show's gone on.

If the press was indeed to be believed disbelief then the only reason why Shania may have pulled out from the show would be something major like sudden illness or a family tragedy like a death or emergency. If she would've busted a vocal chord she would've lipsynched and carried the show like the professional that she is. It's not like people watch the Olympics to watch singers sing live; it's about the athletes and the team spirit that people are giving them.

I was pretty angry. Not with Shania, but with the media including NBC. They will do anything for ratings. They don't care who they disappoint. I don't think Shania was even going to the Closing Ceremony in the first place. Thats just the media playing with people's minds. I remember one of the people in NBC saying that there was only one big star in Canada that was missing and that was Celine Dion. That was a huge slap in the face. Shania did two concert specials with those people and had huge ratings. I don't understand this at all.

Yes, the network made up this huge "lie" about Shania being at the closing ceremony. Yes, most likely *eye roll*.

Most likely it was that Shania WAS going to be there for the ceremony, but for some reason she had to drop out.

I am sure she had a good reason to drop out. I have NEVER heard of a network faking its celebrity lineup. She was suppose to be there.

I personally think though she is wasting her musical years away, what is she waiting for, till she is 50, she has a great talent use it, and get out there, god knows the next time she will have this opportunity again, unless she tours but we not see that still for years to come.

I still stick to my original thought of why she is not releasing new stuff or singing anywhere: her divorce and the cheating absolutely killed her as a person.

Sad. She has so much talent. Wasted is right.

In the end I think they were just rumors and then just took a life on its own. By the way, Shania is writing songs and will come back on stage when she's ready. It doesn't matter if she's 45 or 50. She is a very talented singer and songwriter no matter how old she gets. Remember, Tina Turner had a huge comeback at age 45 and so did Cher in her 50s.

In the end this was about the athletes, not the performers. Shania is only focusing on her album and her son.

I agree. Her actions post divorce show she's human and not playing into the Hollywood machine. So many of these famous people lose their way and head and get so caught up in their image and likeness that even when something bad happens to them they don't have it in them to take time out and figure out their life. That's why we see these people die of overedoses or otherwise turn into nut jobs or real life Barbie and Ken where they only live for tabloid attention, etc.

I don't feel sorry for her because she has the life that she always wanted and got a lot more out of her life than she could ever imagine. She only expected to make a living as an entertainer and then when she saw Garth Brooks' success that pushed her to become the female Garth. In less than 10 years she managed the biggest success in country and some segments of pop music. She was married to one of the most important and prolific rock producers and had a child with him. She went from rural Canada to the Swiss Alps. A real life Cinderella story come true. Sooner or later the clock was going to strike midnight and all the magic would disappear.

Shania will never be poor again and no matter how much she has to downgrade from her previous more opulent lifestyle she'll be okay than most of us. I also think that losing the status of Mrs. Mutt Lange hurts because that's a big deal for many women. The status that comes with the name may even be an even bigger deal than the money that came with such a status.

Career wise of course I don't feel sorry for her at all. She has accomplished above and beyond any artist. But I feel sorry for having been cheated on. No woman, rich or poor, deserves that.

If she knows about the situation she may write about this in her next letter. But I don't hope because when Celine Dion planned to name her album "The Woman In Me" Shania had no idea. It seems like she doesn't watch TV or read musical news very often. If she didn't plan to appear and it was media who made up this story Shania may not know about it.

We have seen this happen too often using Shania's name for higher ratings. But the media tends to forget it's this buzz which can put artists like Shania in a bad light when her fans are expecting to see her and then not to have her show, especially at a prestigious ceremony with millions watching.

I live in Canada and watched the Olympics most of the week. There was no word spoken of Shania performing at the Closing Ceremonies. The only place I read it was here on this forum, and I was terribly disappointed when she didn't show.

There's no doubt that she would have been asked to perform so it would have been her decision not to be there. Actually, I feel quite disgusted with her today!!!

Actually jezibel NBC did mention that Shania Twain was suppose to be performing, her name appeared with the others Nickelback, Avril, and the other Canadian performers. Maybe on the Canadian station they didn't say Shania Twain but I know they said it on NBC I actually seen her name. That's why I thought she was performing because I had seen it on TV, not on some internet forum. I don't know if it was NBC's fault or if it was Shania's fault but everyone needs to stop blaming the people that posted on her Shania was to perform, when NBC was actually the one stating she was going to perform.

Smokey Joe’s on Stony Plain Road had a “welcome back Joe Goldfeder” party last week. The restaurant’s amiable founder came out of retirement to assist current owner Jenny Morris.

Ever the ladies’ man, this Joe.

“How’re ya doing,” boomed Joe to longtime friend Jeanne Laskoski, as he gave her a hug.

“I’m not feeling too good right now, Joe,” she replied.

“I don’t know about that, Jeanne,” said Joe. “You feel pretty good to me!”

LAST OLYMPICS THOUGHTS

Beer R us: As if there was controversy! The Canadian women’s hockey team endeared themselves to working-class Canada with their cigar and beer celebration after the win. “Let ’em party!” was what I heard echoing through Edmonton.

The international media was intrigued by the beer-drinking capacity of the average party-hardy Canadian at the Olympics. Most Vancouver downtown bars reported four times average beer sales during the games. At the fabled Cambie Bar & Grill, they were lined up for Sunday’s noon hockey game by 9 a.m.

IT must come out: Canadian cities have a zillion places to drink during major festivities, but nowhere to pee.

Once again in Vancouver, hundreds of thousands of bladders were consequently emptied into downtown back allies, creating a stench not unlike Calcutta.

Port-o-potties ought to be as vital as snow-removal equipment on the Prairies. Ready to be distributed on short notice, with a battle plan in place for location and maintenance.

Snow removal in Edmonton ... maybe we don’t want that comparison.

Much missed: During the closing ceremonies, most Canadians were expecting one or both of our superstars, Celine Dion and Shania Twain, to deliver the finale.

When neither showed up, the ceremonies seemed to end on a whimper.

Celine had apparently bowed out before Christmas because she was pregnant. Sadly, she subsequently miscarried.

Shania was spotted in Whistler during Week 2, but wasn’t part of the closing ceremonies.

No reason was given by either the organizers or her staff for her no-show.

Nyet, nyet Soviet: The Russian hockey experience was all too similar to the Canadian men’s team at Turin in 2006.

Over-confident, ****y, then getting their ears embarrassingly pinned back.

For all the Pravda bluster, (and today’s Pravda, by the way, is nothing but an extremist, not particularly popular, website) watch the Russian hockey brain trust retool like Canada did, sending out fewer hot doggers and more grit ’n’ grinders for 2014 on Russian soil.

Lifelong learning: Curling made a pile of new fans out of these Olympics.

There was the Art of Conversation XLIII, Friday evening in the beautiful new Century Room at the Century Grill. Lovely waitresses were passing out equally lovely appetizers (try the crab cakes with a slice of salmon on top. Sublime).

And what was our conversation about? Curling!

All eyes were glued to the women’s curling final on the flat screens. Those who knew the game well explained its nuances to the less informed. I learned enough to thoroughly enjoy Kevin Martin’s men’s curling victory whilst couch-surfing the next day. How about those double take-outs by John Morris!

O curling Canada: CFCW’s Jackie-Rae Greening, the world’s top expert when it comes to country music and curling, was part of an in-house Olympic curling broadcast team. Spectators could purchase headsets pre-tuned to Hack Radio, could follow the commentary from Jackie-Rae, Luke Coley and Don Westphal, plus text questions to the trio.

“The highlight was when Martin was playing Great Britain’s David Murdoch, a team that beat Martin’s last year at the Worlds,” says Jackie. “Just when (team member) Marc Kennedy was about to throw a really difficult shot, the crowd burst into an impromptu O Canada. This was before it started happening all over the Olympics.

“Marc had the biggest grin on his face, and once the singing was over, he made a great shot.”

Loonie, I'm hardly a 'fair weather fan'. I've been a fan of Shania for a very long time and I wish her all the happiness life has to offer. I do wish she would let her fans know if she is actually going to put out another album and, if so, when.

I'm sorry that I'm not much of a poster on here but I do read the board on a daily basis. I was so looking forward to her performance at the Closing Ceremonies and when she didn't show I was both disappointed and disgusted, knowing that it was her choice not to appear. I believe I'm allowed to have my own feelings.

I do enjoy her blogs and 'Fred' videos but her music is what I've been looking forward to all this time. Hopefully, she will be back soon.

NBC is an American channel which I didn't watch. CTV Canada had four stations covering all the events and that's where I got any news .. no mention of Shania in the two weeks that I saw.
