Shania Twain Recording New Single, Announces Reality Show
Remember when Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” was on every radio station, every commercial and every movie? Even if you hated country music, you couldn’t avoid the pop crossover superstar’s rising importance in the music industry, but for the past several years, Twain has been laying low and rarely working that much at all, but that is about to change.
The singer/songwriter just announced a new reality show to premiere on Oprah’s new network, OWN, which begins next year on Jan. 1. The channel will appear on the current Discovery Health Network, and the show will focus on Twain’s recent personal struggles, including the dissolution of her 14-year marriage.
Titled “Why Not? With Shania Twain,” the one-hour series will “Follow her as she begins her climb back to the top, a personal journey filled with risk, revelations and unexpected adventures,” according to an official statement.
After serving as a guest judge on this season’s “American Idol,” Twain has begun a slow climb back into the limelight after her painful divorce from music producer Robert “Mutt” Lang due to his relationship with one of her close friends. Her last studio album debuted in 2002 (apart from her “Greatest Hits” compilation in 2004), so fans are itching for some new tunes.
Blogger Nashville Kat revealed that Twain might be hitting the studio on her Web site this week: “Big Shania news & no one else has this – my spies say she’s in LA right now recording a new single.”
In reference to where her career and life are going now, Twain said “I feel like in a way I’m starting over, with everything…This is a very personal experience that I think is important to share. This is an experience of recovery. I was in a very deep, dark slump, and I needed to find a way to get myself out of it. I had to force myself back out into life, back out into experiencing things.”
