Shania Twain on 'Ellen': 'I will sing again. Absolutely.'
shania-twain-ellen-degeneres.jpg
Country star Shania Twain stops by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Thursday (May 12) to talk about her new memoir, "From This Moment On," which details (among other things) her childhood abuse and her recovery from her then-husband's affair with her best friend.

Shania: "I hope that other people relate to this. Even in finding my own voice because it's blocked my voice. This lack of self-expression. I hope that through finding my own voice that it speaks for others as well."

Ellen: "You are helping others ... I know how hard this is. I personally feel an obligation. This fame we have a platform if we can help other people ..."

Shania: "Exactly."

Ellen: "We can be an example and be a story for somebody out there to have the strength and say they did it. I can do it. So you are doing that."

Shania: "This platform is great. It's fantastic but it's so much more meaningful to use it for a deeper meaning, a deeper personal meaning."

Ellen: "I know you said, it's affected your voice and you haven't been able to sing since all this happened. So, it's taking a physical as well as an emotional toll on you. Do you think you will sing again?"

Shania: "Yes, I will sing again. Absolutely."

Ellen: "We want see you sing again. We want to hear that. You have such a beautiful voice. The more you keep talking about it the more your voice is going to open up and I can't wait to hear you sing again. I can't wait."

Shania Twain Talks Infidelity with Ellen DeGeneres

May 13, 2011

ShaniaTwainhas made the media rounds lately and her recent stop at the "Ellen DeGenerous show" revealed some new information involving her ex-husbands cheating ways.

Fans already know that the superstar was faced with infidelity from her husband Mutt Lange. And, they also knew that he cheated on his wife with her very good friend, but as Shania Twain reveals to Ellen, there were other parts of the affair that were much more hurtful. She stated that during the Easter holiday the two families came together to share in the special day, but what she didn't know, was that there was more to the relationship then she had expected.

Further, when Fred, who was Marie-Anne's husband at the time, asked to speak with Shania personally and broke the news about the affair, the singer admitted she initially thought it was a farce before finally uncovering the devastating truth.

Though Shania Twain admitted that she doesn't get into great detail about the affair she does state that her story reveals what she went through.

Probably the most devastating blow was when Shania explained to Ellen that she gave Marie-Anne an opportunity to reveal the secret before she acknowledged knowing about the affair. But, despite her probing questions, her secretary and dear friend said there was nothing she was hiding.

Eventually her world began to spiral and she's been on a discovering journey ever since. But, in an unexpected way, something good came out of all the bad. She found love again, ironically through Marie-Anne's husband Fred. Twain admits that the two had only known each other on a professional level before the affair but after spending time with Fred she discovered a life partner in him.

Now the country singer is ready to be back in the spotlight after a lot of time away. She admits that there are still dark days but that she is moving on with life and looking at things in a whole new light.

OFFSTAGE: Shania Twain Smiles Through the Pain

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

For someone who has been through so much unhappiness, Shania Twain sure seems happy. And she kind of won't stop smiling and laughing. That may be because beneath the abuse and poverty and betrayals and humiliation and lies and pain, Twain truly is over it all. Or because she now has a New York Times bestseller, From This Moment On. Or because she was hanging with Ellen DeGeneres on her show Thursday (May 12). Even DeGeneres sees it. "You are a kind, happy woman today," she tells Twain. And when Twain talks about the book, she says, "I'm grateful for my life. This is the personal side of my life. I'm sharing it with you for very genuine, sincere reasons." She even forgives her father for his abusive ways, saying bad things happen to good people. But at the very end of the half-hour segment, she tells DeGeneres, the audience and the world what they all wanted to hear: "Yes, I will sing again. Absolutely!

Shania Twain's Love Rival Refused To Leave Husband Alone

Twain has cut off all ties to her former friend and assistant Marie-Anne Thiebaud since learning of the romance between her and her now ex-husband - and has even refused to allow Lange to let their son spend time with his girlfriend.

But before cutting Thiebaud off completely, Twain had one final frosty showdown with her former friend, after sending her an email begging her to leave Lange alone.

The You're The One singer tells Access Hollywood, "She said, 'I can't control your husband's feelings for me. It's not my fault that he loves me.'

"Then I started to get angry because I was thinking, 'OK, now that's... It took a lot of nerve to say that.'"

In a romantic twist, Twain became close with Thiebaud's estranged husband Fred as she dealt with the heartbreak of her broken marriage. The couple wed on New Years Day (01Jan11).

Shania Twain 'ready to die' after betrayal

Posted by Corinne Heller

Shania Twain says in her new memoir that she was "ready to die" after finding out her first husband was cheating on her, although he has not confirmed this, and told Ellen DeGeneres that she now finds it easy to talk about the issue.

The 45-year-old country and pop star has been speaking to the press about the matter to promote her new memoir, "From This Moment On." Her new OWN reality series, "Why Not?," which also showcases her struggle and her journey to regain her voice after the scandal, debuted on May 8. The show gave Oprah Winfrey's new cable network its highest premiere ratings.

Twain has not released a new album in almost a decade and has not performed for an audience in almost five years. In 2008, Twain and first husband Robert "Mutt" Lange, a record producer and the father of her son Eja, separated after 14 years of marriage.

The singer would later learn that he was involved with her assistant and close friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud. She and Lange have not confirmed they were involved at the time. After Twain and Lange divorced, the singer married the bearer of the bad news - Thiebaud's husband, Frederic.

"Fred just called me up," Twain told DeGeneres on her syndicated talk show in a recent episode. "He just said, 'I have proof if you want it and I've been following it now for a few weeks and I've got hotel bills and all kinds of details.'"

"For the first week after finding out about the affair, I was ready to die - to go to bed forever and never wake up," Twain read from her book on an iPad on DeGeneres' program. "Or to hurt someone. I was ready to do something desperate, but in reality, there was nothing to do but to suffer through it. Fortunately, when you're a mom, the responsibility of caring for your child can keep you going."

"And that's what kept me going," she told the talk show host. It's easy for me to talk about it in the sense that I'm not angry when I talk about it anymore. "It's obvious that life just has to play out the way it's meant to and how can I complain with the way it's ended up?" On the reality show "Why Not? with Shania Twain," the singer says she has lost her ability to sing. She visits her childhood home in Canada, where she grew up in poverty. She also enlists the help of vocal doctors and coaches, a grief counselor and fellow music artists such as Lionel Richie and Gladys Knight in a bid to "reclaim her voice."

Twain had told Winfrey that after her marriage ended, a doctor told her that had dysphonia, a condition in which the muscles squeeze the voice box, making it difficult to swallow or sing. Twain attributes the problem to her fears.

"Stage fright, domestic violence in the home as a child, my parents dying, not knowing what's next - just all of these different stages of fear in my life," she told Winfrey. "I've just trapped my own voice, and now I've got to unwind all that."

Twain has dealt with tragedy most of her adult life. The singer, who was named Eilleen when she was born, grew up with two sisters and two half brothers and in 1987, her mother and stepfather were killed in a car accident. At age 22, Twain became her younger siblings' guardian.

The singer went on to concentrate on her music career and achieved mainstream success with hits such as "That Don't Impress Me Much" and "Still The One," last released a studio album in 2002. The record, "Up!" has sold more than 11 million copies in the United States.

In addition to two-day passes to the 2011 CMA Music Festival, Twain also surprised Winfrey's studio audience of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" with accommodations at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, a CMA statement said, adding that Twain also said she will host a private brunch for all of the audience members when they visit the city.

Twain last appeared at CMA Music Festival in 1996, when it was still known as Fan Fair. She will sign copies of her autobiography at this year's event but is not scheduled to perform, a spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com.
