RE: Up! magazine interview - No plans for a new album

If we look at her as Eilleen Twain we may not be as disappointed in her life choices. She comes from small town Northern Ontario. I doubt that the culture there encourages competitiveness and other 'star' qualities. She seemed to have only wanted a bat out of hell living there. In that case, her simplicity and humility is an admirable trait. Some stars are accused of being overreaching and wanting it all and not giving younger artists a break (check Mariah Carey and Madonna among others). The main problem here is her dishonesty. I doubt that she is 'lazy' as she worked all her life before fame. Lazy people do not sing in bars at 1 a.m., travel cross-country to perform and move to a foreign country in order to obtain a record deal. Her motivations are obviously elsewhere.

Don't forget that she is under contract and can't tell the whole truth as to why she has not released new music. If one recalls her early sources of musical inspiration it lied in traditional country, R&B, rock and some pop. Perhaps the new music is too different from her old stuff, I don't know. Mutt was the one who gave her songs a girl power twist as her demo's and original material was more sentimental and romantic. I don't think that she cares to re-live the 'Shania Twain' pop-country persona, with the exception of Las Vegas. In one interview from the 90's she acknowledged that she was a product. Could it be that she feels used and resentful that after her ex-husband betrayed and dumped her after utilizing her talents and persona to ad nauseum? It's true that she learned a lot from Mutt, but there's a flip side too.

I do agree that fans have the right to feel disappointed because lying is never a good thing. If one can't tell the truth it's better to not even go there to begin with. No one will hold it against her if she doesn't talk about an album as it means that none is there. Either way, in life nothing lasts forever. The best thing that one can do is to live and enjoy the moment, and relive the memories when it is all gone.

RE: Up! magazine interview - Plans for a Christmas album, no plans for new studio album

Shania Twain Wants To Make Next Record Christmas Album

10/7/2012 2:30 PM ET

In a recent interview with Up! magazine, Shania Twain says she is itching to make a new record—but not just any record, a Christmas record.

"I'm concentrating on the show and not really getting any closer to recording a new album, even though I've done so much of the writing. I'm more inclined to make my next record a Christmas album," she explains.

However, she added, she will first finish the run of shows she has scheduled at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.

"I've been dying to do a Christmas album for so long and I think now is the best time to do that. Once the show is underway I'm just going to, no pun intended, chill and fall into one of my nostalgic modes and make a Christmas album."

Twain's Caesar Palace run begins on December 1 and continues through April.

Shania Twain Looking to Record Christmas Album in 2013

October 9, 2012

Shania Twain launches her Still the One show at Caesars Palace in December, but the Las Vegas residency won’t be accompanied by new music. Though she’s been writing quite a bit, Shania tells WestJet’s Up! magazine, “I’m concentrating on the new show and not really getting any closer to recording a new album.”

Shania is thinking about working on a new recording once the show is up and running, but it won’t be a regular studio project.

“I’m more inclined to make my next record a Christmas album,” Shania says. “I’ve been dying to do a Christmas album for so long, and I think now is the best time do that.”

Fans will have to wait until Christmas 2013 at the earliest for a Shania holiday album. In the meantime, head over to ShaniainVegas.com for details on tickets and concert dates.

Shania Twain Has New Album on Her Christmas Wish List

Shania Twain has sold more than 85 million albums with an output that includes four studio albums and a greatest hits disc. And even though the singer has recorded the occasional holiday tune, including a duet of "White Christmas" with Michael Bublé, one thing she has yet to do is release an collection of Christmas tunes. While she has been focused most recently on her upcoming Las Vegas concert series, "Still the One," Shania hints a Yuletide offering could soon be on its way.

"I'm more inclined to make my next record a Christmas album," she tells Up! magazine. "I've been dying to do a Christmas album for so long and I think now is the best time to do that. Once the show is underway I'm just going to, no pun intended, chill and fall into one of my nostalgic modes and make a Christmas album."

Shania's most recent single, "Today Is Your Day," was released last year, but a full studio album has been put on the back burner while she focuses on her Vegas gig. "I'm concentrating on the show and not really getting any closer to recording a new album," she says, "even though I've done so much of the writing."

Shania admits she had plenty of anxiety before committing to the series of shows in Sin City, which are now less than two months away. "I feel as if I've already gone through the most nerve-wracking part of it and that was making the decision to do it," she explains. "It was a giant step for me. I'm enjoying singing again. When I think about being on stage and being like, 'Ugh, how am I going to be able to run around in high heels shoes again,' and 'Am I going to be comfortable wearing fashion clothes?' I've been so relaxed in these last years and just being in sweats. I think I'll enjoy being back with the audience, being back with the cast and the musicians and being in that environment."

Shania's "Still the One" show kicks off Dec. 1 at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.

KHAZ Music News: Shania Twain Wants To Make A Christmas Record

(Associated Press) – The next music Shania Twain records might have a holly, jolly jingle to it. She tells Up! Magazine that she’s been “dying to do a Christmas album for so long” and now is the best time to do that. Twain is launching her “Still The One” concert series in Las Vegas in December. She says once the show is underway, she’s going to get nostalgic and make the Christmas record happen.

I think Shania has lost confident to pull out more new songs, now let's admit it her voice on TIYD wasn't close 40%, I love her songs but I know she can do better than that, it must be the reason why she is delaying the new Album that woman is still ill and sure have left with vocal troubles from all what she went through but I know you "true" fans don't give a damn about that. Hence I stopped waiting for her new album but when it comes I wouldn't want it to be a Christmas one I wish for another "Up".

Nineties Country Queens Return with 2013 Releases

By Jack Dura | Wednesday, December 5, 2012

What do Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Natalie Maines have in common? It’s more than you might think, actually. Besides riding the tide of fame in the ‘90s and early 2000s, these three country stars have been rather dormant on the music scene the past six years. That is all about to change as each songstress readies herself for a new release in 2013.

Faith Hill has already given her fans a taste of what is to come in the New Year. In early October she sent “American Heart” to radio after debuting “Come Home” at the CMAs in November 2011. Other songs off of the forthcoming album (rumored to be titled Illusion) have also trickled out from the singer in the past year, including “600 Years” and the titular tune “Illusion.” Although a release date has not been given to the public yet, it appears Hill’s Illusion will hit stores in the spring of 2013.

Also planning a 2013 return is Dixie Chick Natalie Maines. The lead voice behind such hits as “Wide Open Spaces” and “Goodbye Earl,” Maines may be just as well-known for her remark about former President Bush in 2003, saying, “Just so you know…we’re ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas.” Sweeping the Grammys in 2007 with their eclectic comeback album Taking the Long Way, the Chicks rose above the controversy swirling around them, and have since seemed to disappear altogether.

With nothing new since then, it would appear the Chicks have broken up. While they insist they have not, it has not stopped Maines’ sidekicks (sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robison) from forming their own duo and recording new music. Maines is also going down a musical path of her own, taking blues and gospel singer Ben Harper along for the ride as producer. Tweeting in June that she was eight songs deep into a new album, Maines said she is hoping for a spring release of her solo rock album, which is as of yet unnamed.

What may be the most anticipated of all is an album by Shania Twain, the acclaimed queen of country pop. Still retaining the record for best-selling album by a woman (1997’s Come on Over), Twain has had nothing entirely new since Up! was let loose in 2002. A greatest hits album and a couple low-hitting singles dented the charts in the mid-2000s, as did last year’s “Today Is Your Day,” her first single in six years.

While new material is nowhere in sight for Twain, a two-year Vegas residency and possible Christmas album will highlight 2013 for the singer. On Dec. 1, Twain’s “Still the One” show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas kicked off the first of twenty-four scheduled shows, with more pending. Also on the way is a highly likely Christmas album, which Twain has yearned to record for years.

“I’m more inclined to make my next record a Christmas album. I’ve been dying to do a Christmas album for so long and I think now is the best time to do that,” Twain told Up! magazine in September.

Twain has already had a taste of recording Christmas music, as she is featured in “White Christmas” on Michael Bublé’s 2011 Christmas album. With a Vegas residency and hopeful holiday album, 2013 will be a big year for the superstar.

Spring of next year will no doubt be another milestone in the careers of Twain, Hill and Maines, whose music has been missed by many in the past six years. While any work by these women will be welcomed, it will be interesting to see what they have to show for their long absences. Only 2013 will tell.

As mentioned last August, Shania was interviewed for the March 2013 issue of Up! magazine. Apparently there was a photo shoot too. (Kind of strange for an airline magazine.) Here is a picture. I found it on the Shania Twain Australian Fan Club Facebook page. The magazine should be out soon. A digital issue will be posted on www.upmagazine.com.

I find it odd too. Looks like an old picture/shoot they dug out of the closet. Strange. Plus it's so altered it doesn't even look like Shania! Can't wait to see what the others look like (if there are more in the magazine). confuse

I really think it's fake. It doesn't look like Shania at all. And this flash on her face is there only to make face look unclear.

Supposedly the photographer, Mark Abrahams, gave the picture to the Australian Fan Club. Don't ask me why. Why them? Sounds weird to me. And as I said before, it seems strange Shania would even do a shoot for an airline magazine.

The picture is fake! I posted this picture on my Shania facebook page and that Shania Twain Australian group act like they own it. But they don't because it's fake, made by them. It does not even look like Shania!

It's almost scary the amount of photoshop they used... why do they do this? She's a beautiful woman in her late 40's. She doesn't need to look like a 20 year old girl...

What amazes me is they said she did a telephone interview not a one on one personal interview. Why did you believe this in the first place ? Just stop getting sources from facebook or other Shania Fan sites, Shania's Facebook, Twitter, Website and People.com are really the real sites you should be looking at more often. Just 2 cents.

Not sure who and what to believe any more. At least Shania Twain fan club Australia or Canada don't steal pics. They do credit and ask for permission to use pics unlike some of the other Shania Twain FB fan pages. Not naming names.

Here is the cover and Q & A article in the March 2013 issue. (Click thumbnails to enlarge.)

The screenshot of the article is not really big enough to read so click link below for the digital issue. (Click on different parts of the article to enlarge and read.) Shania's Q & A article is on pages 14-15. It's a continuation of the online Q & A posted last September. She talks about must-dos in Vegas, gambling, going back home to the Bahamas when not performing in Vegas, the possibility of doing a cover album, and her ability to write songs.

upmagazine.com now has the Q&A article from the March 2013 issue posted in text form:

Shania Twain on Vegas, her biography and her new music

She's still the one

By Mandy Savoie | March 6, 2013

What was Canadian country superstar Shania Twain most nervous about before launching her new show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas?

It wasn’t the fact she’d be singing in front of a sold-out crowd for her first performance in eight years—or that she’d be making her entrance on a flying motorcycle.

No. Her main concern was footwear. “How am I going to be able to run around in high-heel shoes again?” says Twain.

Along with her 13-piece band, Twain, 47, is the newest performer at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, where she’s booked for a two-year run of Shania: Still the One.

Twain sat down with up! to discuss the show, her 2011 autobiography and her new music.

What are your must-dos in Vegas?

The thing I love most about Vegas is seeing shows. Every night, I’ll go to a different show. I’ve even seen some things twice. They’re just so incredible and so elaborate. If there’s anything new in town, I’m always anxious to go and see that.

Do you gamble?

No, I’m not a gambler. I don’t even know how to play blackjack, [but] I find the atmosphere of the casinos a lot of fun. I like The Strip a lot—the vibe is just interesting. People are there to have fun. The food is great and the shopping is great, so I think it’s a great place for entertainment of all kinds.

Do you have plans to tour when you’re not performing in Vegas?

No. I’m going to go back to the Bahamas [where she now lives] and carry on with life. I enjoy it. My son [Eja, 11] will want to be with his friends and get back to normalcy. We’ll enjoy tapping into the temporary performances in Vegas and then coming back to reality.

Have you considered doing a cover album?

I’d love to do a cover album with all my favourite songs. There’s just never time to do it. I always have a desire to work on my own writing and the final stage of that is recording it and it’s very satisfying to finish it. I’ve always put the cover album idea on hold, but I do believe it is something that I will do and it will be a completely self-indulgent experience.

After writing your autobiography, From This Moment On, is it easier to write songs?

No, I’m still an extremely private person. I was extreme in separating my professional and personal life to a degree that wasn’t healthy for me. I had to switch gears, dramatically. It’s a delicate balance because there are secrets that you never share and then there are secrets that you realize aren’t even secrets. I don’t feel that I can be my real self in the public eye anymore unless I can be more relaxed about the personal side of myself. Without doing that, I never would’ve been able to have gone back into the public eye after what happened with my divorce [from Robert “Mutt” Lange]. I think it’s more of a maturity than anything.

I seriously do not understand where she is even coming from with this answer. Time is one thing she has in spades. Droves. No time for a new album. No time for a cover album.

Does not make any sense.
