Critics said Shania makes music for teenagers? I somehow can't believe that. I didn't choose to ignore the reviews. I chose to ignore Taylor cause like I already said I'm not listening to teen pop. I'm not a teenager. I just found a positive review http://www.rollingstone.com/music/albumreviews/taylor-swift-1989-20141024 but I wonder how much the author got paid cause most of the comments below tell a completely different story...haha... I love the comments.

I don't usually speak out on to anyone, but Butters I've gotta bone to pick with you. I've been watching your negative comments for sometime now and I'm about fed up with it. Quit trying to emphasize Taylor Swift when this site is discussion of Shania. If you wanna talk about Taylor, there are fan sites made just for her. You act like you live the life of Shania Twain. Well, you don't. You don't know or understand what it's like to be living in her shoes. So quit drowning out the positives with negatives. We all realize its been almost 13 years since a studio album, and we all realize she keeps saying she is writing and preparing to get into the studio. We all recognize this. Perhaps Shania wants this record to be perfect, perhaps she's not trying to be on top anymore. Honestly, she probably won't be on top anymore, that's not because of Taylor Swift, that's just because that's what happens to artists. They fade in and fade out. You gotta learn that everyone has a season to shine in, and Shania's season just so happened to peak nearly 10 years ago, but that doesn't mean she won't still be successful. Look at Dolly Parton. She may not have singles charting on the radio, but she has certainly enjoyed her most successful charting albums and tours of her career. I don't wanna keep seeing you tear down what we already understand. You're like a broken record, you keep regurgitating what we already know. And for reasons unknown, you seem to be the only upset over something that happens to every big time band or singer. The rest of us are happy if she's happy. If she's happy taking her time on a new record then we're happy for her, unlike you. So quit your whining and enjoy what she has already given us, and embrace of what is to come. In the meantime, if Taylor Swift is your new Shania, then so be it. But that doesn't mean you have to knock Shania down as well. That's all I'm going to say about these unneccesary comments.

I quote Melanie 100%.
Shania has PLENTY of songs deeper and more meaningful than Taylor could EVER write. Especially the Up! CD is full of them. One and for all: I Ain't Goin' Down

Exactly and besides that Shania has plenty of huge and legendary hits. Taylor Swift has not a single song with the potential to become legendary.

I just tried to imagine Taylor performing her current songs in 25 years when she's Shania's age. But no matter how hard I try I can't imagine a 49 year old woman hopping around the stage to that teen pop song 'Shake it off' lol.

Exact same things have been said about Shania time and time again.....care to read all the negative reviews of her work for a history lesson?

You are doing the same thing to Miss Swift that others have done to Shania. You don't like it when they do it to Shania but you are free to be nasty about Miss Swift. You can call her music trash and say that she is anorexic.....but God forbid someone say a negative thing about Miss Shania.....

I love hypocrisy.....

Gosh! Where did I say that she is anorexic??? Show me that please. I said she LOOKS (L-O-O-K-S) anorexic! Learn to read! She is skinny in an unattrractive and unhealthy way and I don't like to look at women who look like that. That's my opinion. And without her breast implants she would even more look like a stick. And by the way a natural skinny and healthy woman has thighs and not stick legs that have the same size from calves to hips lol. I don't care whether she is too skinny from being anorexic or from stress or whatever. I don't care about this woman.

Yes, she is "skinny in an unattractive way and unhealthy way and I don't like to look at women who look like that..." but you are not saying that she is an anorexic, got it.....you just want to insult a woman that "you don't care about". Got it.

And yes, a naturally skinny woman can have stick legs and no thighs. It happens. It just seems like something that deeply p*sses you off. But not that your judgmental at all....

Critics have bashed Shania from the start of her career. Saying she cannot write. Saying she cannot sing. Saying all she is good for is her body and looks. I'm surprised that you wouldn't be aware of that being such a huge fan as yourself. There have been far more insults and bad reviews thrown Shania's way throughout her career than compliments--especially when she was in her prime. Entertainment Weekly gave COO an "F". Hard to get a worse rating than that....

So bash away at other artists. Just don't act like Shania was universally adored.

And for those to claim to love her so very much and adore her and her music and all that wonderful stuff, why don't you start active happy threads about Shania and have long discussions about her--so this discussion board, and others like it, are active and alive. There so few discussions on this forum. So few posts. It is like a ghost town...

Or continue to focus on what I write.

You know what? The only thing that deeply p*sses me off is you and your frustrated posts on here. Fortunately I'm not forced to listen and look at Taylor but unfortunately I can't turn off your posts which are full of made up sh*t when I come here and want to enjoy this messageboard. It's obvious that you are a deeply frustrated fanatic about Shania. Because the normal non-fanatics on here are like Logan said just happy if Shania is happy and enjoy the music she released in the past. Something seriously went wrong in your life because you have nothing else to do than wanting to direct the life and career of someone else (Shania). You are either deeply ignorant and selfish and don't care about Shania's well being and happiness or you are just a pitiful lonely person without a family/children who doesn't know what it's like to have all this.

It's not possible to be a global megastar that puts out an album every 3 years and tours the world and everything and maintain a healthy family life at the same time. Shania knows that.

That's something you small-minded person seriously don't understand or don't want to understand because you are that selfish and greedy and only want more more and more!

Keep on living in your fantasy world that is ruled by Taylor swift and don't bother others with this crap.

I posted that producer T Bone Burnett was in the audience of Shania's show but you spammed this thread with stuff about Taylor Swift that has absoloutely nothing to do with it. And by the way there's a very alive and happy group on facebook where people prefer to discuss because it's not spammed by negative frustrated persons like you.

I don't need to read reviews to form an opinion. I am capable of distinguishing betwenn quality music and disposable crap music. I don't need a critic to tell me what to listen to. And just because an album is selling good doesn't mean that it's quality music. Mass appealing trash music always sells better than deep quality music. Party music sells better than serious music. There are more idiots who go with the flow and buy what everyone buys than intelligent people who can form their own opinion.

As stated above: "There so few discussions on this forum. So few posts. It is like a ghost town..."

Hi folks! It's been awhile since I last posted. I still come to Tommy's site for his great, current Shania information and pics!

I usually skip the messageboard. The reason I skip the messageboard is the same reason other members are also getting frustrated (see above). One member, in particular, enjoys criticizing Shania.

This member's criticizing and negative posts are a major contributing factor why "There so few discussions on this forum. So few posts. It is like a ghost town..."

It is not unreasonable to think a FAN site messageboard would have positive posts regarding Shania. People get tired of scanning posts and reading negative comments. This is the reason I usually skip the messageboard.

My suggestion would be for Tommy to open a new thread such as "Do You Have A Criticism Of Shania". Tommy reviews all posts so he could move the negative comments to this thread. This would allow members with negative comments their freedom of speech but also allow FANS of Shania to avoid reading this stuff.

Everybody's happy. Maybe more members would return to this messageboard.

Wow. I feel very sorry for you. No matter what I have said about Shania, the stranger by the way, I have never gone after you personally. But you have "tried" again and again to go after me personally.

All it proves is that you are the one who is nasty, pathetic and sad. Very troubled inside. I now know how much my posts bother you for you to personally "try" attack me like you do with personal insults.

But I'm being 100 percent honest when I say that I feel you are very, very troubled if you have the need to go after a person on a message board that has a different opinion than yours. I hope you find the deep peace and help that you need. I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts dear.

And you choose to read why I write. Your choice. You don't have to keep reading and replying, but after this last post, I can see you have deep, deep issues.

May you find peace.

The only way more people would return to this, or any Shania message board, is if Shania actually did something relevant with her career again and there were things to talk about.

Hard to discuss singles from 14 years ago.

And one person does not have the power to keep others away ;)

Believe it or not, but there are plenty of people who are not only a fan of Shania the musician but of Shania the person as well. People who realise that Shania is a human being and not a robot/machine. As I mentioned above there's a very alive fan group on facebook with almost 3.000 members and hundreds of active members and thank god there are no frustrated and disappointed fanatics who act like they own Shania or like Shania owes them new music.

Melanie, why do you keep responding to this person? Ignore this person nomatter what they post. She tells people to settle down when she is the one all riled up lol. She scolds you for personal attacks on her but yet she called you ignorant and personally attacked you. She says you are troubled but yet she is the one always angry and tries to get the last word lol. Is it really worth it to ever even acknowledge her? Show you are the more mature person and just don't argue with her. Since she personally attacks you I could say some pretty cruel stuff about her but I grew up in life and don't need to resort to that. Just let her post and say whatever she wants and don't let it bother you.

I have a Russian forum about Shania and I see at least two reasons why forums about her are "ghost towns". The first is dying interest in forums in general. People tend to find more comfortable to get and post information on social network services than on forums. The second is Shania's hiatus. No matter how many people are interested in her as a person there are always more of them interested in her singing/performing. A couple of days ago on our Russian SNC I posted a video from Deerhurst that Russian fans hadn't seen and it got more comments and likes than my stories about her charity project or even the story of recording her early songs which were published on "The Complete Limelight Sessions" (the only topic we didn't discuss in the past as we were more interested in TWIM, COO and Up!). Besides her break up with Mutt nothing aroused interest among her Russian fans for the last years. And I personally feel sorry for Shania posing as a victim in her book (I reread only those parts about ideas for her songs and albums) and the TV show. People want to see her musically - she's a singer/songwriter/entertainer. They are not interested in reading about her old stuff and discussing it. They aren't so interested in her charity work either. She can have looks of a goddess and be the nicest person on the Earth but her talent is the thing that allowed her to be discovered and loved by so many! Being an administrator of the Russian website I see her TALENT and MUSIC being more important for my visitors. And I am a fan of her of course, but I've always appreciated her as a singer and songwriter more than her as a person. Without her talent she's just another good person in the world. She's great because she helps children. She deserves being complimented for being beautiful. But these factors are just not enough for a forum to be full of life. And each forum needs a person who's nasty sometimes because without such a person all comments are just sweet and flattering. A good discussion needs a fly in the ointment. This comment is fully based on my experience as an administrator for almost 10 years and as a fan of 15 years.

oh really Tanya? no doubt Shania's hiatus is the biggest reason for dead forums. But i never saw you say we need nasty remarks when i was upset at shania a few years ago.And i never was nasty or made remarks about her looks. Back then i was only upset at how i thought she played the victim too much and and made excuses for no music. But i grew up and realised it is her life and nomatter what us fans want she will do things on her time. i am 100 percent for different opinions but if one person is just trying to stir up trouble then the best solution is to let them have their opinion but just ignore them. Tanya , appreciate your comments but too bad you never made these comments when people were bashing me for my opinions. Anyway i was too busy the last few years with life, sports and friends and travelling to care anymore. When shania has new music next year i will be happy to hear it

goodlookingkevy, I'm sorry I didn't support you back then. But I had no such experience about those things. In my case, my forum itself proved we need the nasty remarks. When there was no interesting news to discuss a person who said nasty things made people to post comments anyway. And no matter how many times one would recommend others to ignore them, they would always get a reply. And the forum's life went on. I myself fought negative staments on my forum because I was scared that people would leave the forum and new ones would be afraid to come. When finally I made people stop posting the nasty remarks, my forum almost died. And when I say almost died I mean it is far more of a "ghost town" now than Tommy's forum. So now I see all this from a different angle. As to why I didn't post those things before. First of all, I (party or fully) agreed with those remarks but I understood that most visitors won't accept those facts. Secondly, I hadn't such experience as I have now. And I am happy for you. Actually, we all have to have our personal life and hobbies besides Shania. We're not limited in choice. I have a lot of things going on in my life too to be focused only on Twain. I don't see any reason for myself to be upset with Shania as a person or a professional. Maybe I am a bit upset as an administrator. She'll release her album sometime and I'll be happy. Right now I live a full life, listening to other beautiful and active singers who are kind to come to Estonia with concerts. I went to Michael Buble's show a couple of years ago, I'm going to Sarah Brightman's concert in two weeks. Maybe my dream will come true and Shania will come to Tallinn with a live show. That'll be great. But I won't sit still dreaming and calling her names. That's just life. :)

Thanks for explaining Tanya. I understand where you are coming from.I decided a few years ago to not get worked up about when and if she puts out music. I still have my views but don't have the desire to post them on a fan site. I guess when she has new music out i will comment on that. i do admit i use to get my fellow fans really riled up by my comments years ago lol so i am looking at this from both sides. Now time for kevy to shovel snow before hockey lol chow for now.

You are right Kevy. Don't argue with idiots. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. She will always have the last word anyway (due to being an experienced idiot).

I don't know what Butters is still doing here anyway since in her fantasy world Shania is going to retire at the end of the year lol.

I wonder now that she is officially back in the studio, how well it is going for her. I also wonder how long she's been in there too. A couple days, weeks, months perhaps? We just don't know. I am pleased. Hopefully there'll be a new record out within the next year. Possibly shooting for a fall release next year, or even an early 2016 release?

I'm hoping that it will be more like TWIM--which is my favorite album by Shania. The writing on that album was perfect. I love the country sound on the album--Shania's voice lends itself to that type of music perfectly. I doubt she would go this direction but I would love a TWIM part 2.

Another topic to discuss for those who actually want to discuss Shania:

Dream duet partners for Shania.

Mine:

1) Rod Stewart--they both have unique deep voices that would blend well together
2) Simon LeBon from Duran Duran--again another unusual voice--could be an interesting pairing
3) Michael Jackson (obviously not possible) but they both were/are fans of the extra "noises" and "sounds" in songs....would be interesting
4) Faith Hill--a pop power ballad between these two would be epic--along the lines of Reba's "Does He Love You?"
5) Vince Gill- A love song duet would be very pretty with their voices

Yours?

Wonderful post. Perfectly stated. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

It would be great if she finished just one song and decided to perform it in Vegas during her last shows there.

That would be a great idea because then she would gain confidence for her new music. If she debuted a new song in Vegas to a receptive crowd, it would give her the confidence to finish the whole album.

Getting back to the duets concept--I always thought a Garth/Shania duet would be huge and could rock the music world. Two powerhouses coming together.

I wonder if Shania would ever do The Voice. Seems like a good show for her. All the judges are still relevant in the music biz unlike other music shows.

That would really be great! But can she really do that? I mean can't others steal the song until it isn't officially released?

I wonder now that she is officially back in the studio, how well it is going for her. I also wonder how long she's been in there too. A couple days, weeks, months perhaps? We just don't know. I am pleased. Hopefully there'll be a new record out within the next year. Possibly shooting for a fall release next year, or even an early 2016 release?

I'm wondering the same thing and I'm wondering where she is in the studio and of course who is the producer. Maybe she is recording in Vancouver because she was seen there two weeks ago and she was there in the summer as well.

But I don't understand why she is planning to tour in spring and doesn't finish the album first and do a tour with the new music. Maybe the new album is closer than we think. I don't know.

I'm hoping that it will be more like TWIM--which is my favorite album by Shania. The writing on that album was perfect. I love the country sound on the album--Shania's voice lends itself to that type of music perfectly. I doubt she would go this direction but I would love a TWIM part 2.

I'm also hoping that it will be more country or even entirely country. I love the Up album but I think TWIM and COO are better. I think the Up album is a little overproduced. I personally think her voice sounds best during the campfire. So an acoustic album in the style of the campfire set would be great as well.

I think she started recording this month during her Vegas hiatus. Definitely not this summer, with Vegas and the other two concerts in Canada.
And I agree, it would make sense doing a tour next year with some new songs. Maybe just a couple, to give her fans a taste of what her next album will be. But she's never been the kinda artist to do that.
If she's already in the studio, I sure hope in a 2015 release, with a single around spring/early summer. It's not a good moment for women in country music, so I guess she'll have to promote the album like hell.

I agree, I think Shania just started recording. So who knows when she'll be finished. Like Melanie stated, I think it's pretty crazy to go out on tour next year without new music. Do we really want to see "Vegas On Tour"? I don't but I guess I would go since I didn't make it to Las Vegas.

If she's in the studio, I wonder if she's found a producer? I agree that a country record would sound best, but it would be terribly hard for her to promote. I know a lot of user don't really care about how it sells, but I'm sure Shan does. I think I expect the album to be more pop-oriented. When she does tour again, I hope she'll perform the new songs. When I saw her on the Up Tour in 2004, she only sang three songs from the album she was promoting! Cher did the same thing when I saw her earlier this year. I get people want to hear the hits, but I don't necessarily need to hear Love Gets Me Every Time or You Win My Love again if it means never hearing I'm Jealous or I Ain't Goin Down or Thank You Baby live.

okay first of all Mutt is the producer who takes so long recording music. Most producers take 2 months recording an album. Also of course she found a producer to work with and my guess she is recording in Vancouver. My guess also despite she could easily record it all in 2 months if she wanted to, the album won't be released till late next year. She will go back to Switzerland and Bahamas for breaks a few times. And she did mention having some one off concerts in the spring, not a full tour. That would come after the album the release. Of course we are all speculating on everything though lol

"Vegas On Tour" with the same setlist, same costumes and same everything will be soooooooooo boring yawn. If she really does "Vegas On Tour" I hope there will at least be some changes.

I agree. I doubt that the recording will take a year or even longer. The songs are already written. So why should it take that long? And yes, of course she picked a producer unless she herself is the producer lol.

She's been writing songs for the past 14 years, so I bet all the songs are written. Lol.
I don't want to see "Vegas on Tour" either, even if it'll be hard to put a new concept together for some random shows here and there.
I'd just like her to be less reclusive to talk about her new producer and all that kind of stuff. Can you imagine if Mutt is the producer???

WHO is the producer I guess I meant. "Of course" she's found one, but considering the last interview she gave she implied she was shopping around, it seems kind of sudden that she's already in the studio. Which could mean she's back working with David Foster or Nathan Chapman or someone she's worked with before. I wonder if she would be able to producer it herself, considering the experience working/living with Mutt.

I will have to disagree here with the exception of Pharrell Williams; he is the only relevant and successful artist on The Voice ("Happy" and his collaborations with Nile Rodgers and Daft Punk comes to mind). His production and vocal work is still played and remembered on radio.

Usher wasn't exactly the top artist when he made it to The Voice. Yes, he has a Diamond certified album to his credit and has sold over 60 million albums worldwide. So at his peak, he was huge and was probably one of the most accomplished judges.

Christina Aguilera who as of recent has only had hits when collaborating with other artists (e.g. Maroon 5, Pitbull, Alejandro Fernandez and A Great Big World). Her last Top 40 hit in the U.S. as a solo artist was "Keeps Gettin' Better" in 2008. Aguilera's been throwing a lot of music out there to see what sticks and it hasn't worked.

When Shakira made it to The Voice, her career was already declining, with the exception of a few bright spots ("Waka Waka" and novelty Latin dance songs). Her most recent album is a dud in the U.S., even with Hispanics; however, she is selling like hot cakes in Spain, where she currently resides with her footballer partner and her son.

Adam Levine's been struggling to remain relevant. His albums (Maroon 5) post-The Voice do sell, but it's not spectacular considering the exposure (a pun on his Overexposed album). Most his band's sales come from their poppy and sugary singles. Their most famous and enduring album was Songs About Jane, released in 2002.

CeeLo Green's a one hit wonder ("Forget You" in 2010) who had a moderately successful career with Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley.

Gwen Stefani, as a solo artist, and her band No Doubt have not charted anything big since 2006 and 2003, respectively. Stefani's appeal is that she is very likeable, stylish (she's also a fashion designer) and inspires feelings of romantic nostalgia in the U.S. ("Don't Speak" was the song that endeared us to her).

Blake Shelton's just maintained what he had to begin with: remain a platinum selling country act. If it wasn't for The Voice and his marriage to Miranda Lambert, he would've gone the way of the 1990's hat acts who are no longer current. This country couple seems to be going the way of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw as far as Nashville power couples are concerned.

Most of the artists to come out of The Voice have gone nowhere. The only vocalists from that show that I have heard of and had success (hit single(s) and albums) were the country singers. American Idol has a better track record and a few of the winners are still relevant on TV and the charts (Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood) or the road (Taylor Hicks has a Vegas show at the Paris I believe). Even the lesser succesful Idols were moderately successful at some point (Fantasia Barrino, Ruben Studdard, Jordin Sparks, David Cook and Scotty McCreery).

My observation has been that The Voice does little to raise an artist's profile if they are already on their way down. These kinds of shows should only be done as a labor of love and nothing more.

Yours?

Maybe she should check out some jazz and Latin singers (she sang beautifully in Portuguese).

1. Marisa Monte (she's Brazilian and has a soft and melodious vocal style)

2. Lucinda Williams

3. Norah Jones

4. Gary Allan

That's all that came to mind for now.

In the last interview she said "I am in the middle of putting the album together, and that’s very exciting." I hope it's not David Foster. I don't like what he did with TIYD.

I disagree that Blake Shelton and Adam Levine are not relevant in the music industry. Overexposed and its singles were huge, and V debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200. Likewise, Based on a True Story had several hit singles, and Blake's new album debuted at #1 on both the BB Top 200 and Country charts. I would say they're still relevant, even if they're past the "peak" of their career, so to speak. Everyone else I more or less agree, although I really enjoyed Shakira's latest album.

As far as dream duet partners,
1. Garth - if a Garth/Shan duet had happened in the 90s, country music would have pooped its pants.
2. Faith - same as above, a pop power ballad would be killer
3. Shakira - if she can sing in Portuguese, she can sing in Spanish

I think a duet with Michael Jackson could be possible (although it runs the risk of being in poor taste, IMHO) due to digital recording, etc. I think she would sound REALLY good with Elvis (who has had numerous duet partners even in the past few years, all of which have been relatively decent).

ETA - Same about David Foster. I think he's a great producer but not a good fit for Shania.

Yes, what David Foster did with TIYD sounds more like a funeral song than a happy motivational song. Shania's version of the song is so much better.
