New music, album coming soon?

This article is from a Las Vegas ticket broker so I guess we can take it for what it's worth.

Shania Twain is in Vegas December 2012

September 12th, 2012

Shania Twain is country strong; having endured a divorce that sent her reeling emotionally and almost stole her voice, quite literally. Following her highly publicized divorce from producer Mutt Lange she actually felt her voice slipping away. She could deal with getting a little older and no longer being able to quite pull off the binding and unforgiving head-to-toe leather suit, but losing her voice meant losing her ability to express herself.

There can be no greater loss for a performer, but thankfully she overcame her Dysphonia. It took months of physical rehabilitation and the emotional support of now second husband Frederic Thiebuad, the former husband of the woman who stole who first husband. Now, she has completed her comeback and has released the single “Today Is Your Day” after he program on OWN (Oprah’s cable station) ended. The song is cathartic, inspired by her own mantra while she recovered from a betrayal by her then husband and her then best friend.

With a single on the radio the next step is performing live and Shania has made quite an arrangement, a two-year residency at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace beginning on December 1, 2012. The show, Still the One, is her first extended tour of any sort in eight years. The performance will bring the beloved singer and the ageless beauty out to perform her biggest hits with a little bit of a surprise.

In between regaling the sold out crowd with “Man! I Feel Like Woman” and “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under”, the singer-songwriter is going to introduce some new material because she also has a new album on the horizon. Yes, Shania Twain is back as officially as is possible and VegasTickets has the Shania Twain tickets to see the incredible performer live at the Colosseum during these monthly shows.

I really hope this is true. I was still a kid barely out of high school when UP! was released and made me a fan! It's been a LONG time coming.

I sooo hope this is true. It would make sense to release a new album while she's already on tour......kind of.....stationery tour would be closer! Can't wait for more news!!

Just so everyone knows and doesn't fall for the OLD April Fool's trick, that Brazil site tweeted: "Canadian singer Shania Twain confirms new album for later this year." disbelief

If she hasn't started on it yet, 4 months won't be enough time to put it all together, record it, etc before she heads back to Vegas. Considering she said she was planning on making a Christmas album last September in the Up! magazine interview, I'd say that gave her more than enough time to start preparing so she'd be ready to work on it during her breaks. I hope I'm wrong but I really don't expect a Christmas album this year. More likely next year if Shania was serious about what she said...

How is the new album coming along?

I’m concentrating on the show and not really getting any closer to recording a new album, even though I’ve done so much of the writing. I’m more inclined to make my next record a Christmas album. I’m been dying to do a Christmas album for so long and I think now is the best time to do that. Once the show is underway I’m just going to, no pun intended, chill and fall into one of my nostalgic modes and make a Christmas album.

Won"t she need to start on a Christmas Album soon if she wants to get it out in time for holidays??

I think she has put the christmas album on hold because she didn't say a word about it since last september. At billboards , she said she will be back in the studio sometime in 2014 to start recording her new album. Anyway we know she's been promising us a new album for at least 5 years

I reckon, that even if she is recording / seriously working on a new album yet, she'd keep it low key. If she's admit she's working on an album right now, people would constantly ask her when it will be released, and they'll put pressure on her. And I guess that is not what she needs and wants right now.

In the article below, Shania says when she returns to Vegas for the next leg of shows starting on November 30, she has to make decisions about a producer for the new album. We'll see!

Shania Twain plans second kids clubhouse in Las Vegas, set to be Great Santa Run grand marshal

By Robin Leach | Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 | 4:57 p.m.

Superstar singer Shania Twain has confirmed her second Las Vegas school clubhouse and simultaneously announced that she will serve as the grand marshal of the ninth-anniversary 5K Great Santa Run for Opportunity Village. She also is signing up her fans to enter her own team in the challenge.

Shania will welcome more than 10,000 Santa look-a-likes on Dec. 7 downtown under the screens of Fremont Street Experience at the charity’s largest annual fundraiser returning to its birthplace.

I’ll be one of the MCs at the event as O.V. fights to keep its title of World Santa Challenge champion against teams in England, Japan, Ireland and Australia. Our local Santas have won the award seven of eight years.

Backstage after her resident show in the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Sunday night, Shania told me that her Shania Kids Can foundation will be extended to a second Las Vegas primary school after the success of the first one here we reported in recent weeks.

She says a third will follow near Toronto and that a fourth will be in England. That’s as a result of a unique tennis challenge her husband Frederic Thiebaud and she won last week.

High-roller fans from Canada and England made large donations to play mixed-doubles tennis, and Shania and Frederic won both matches. But the real winners will be the kids she can now help with the additional clubhouses.

Shania is on a break now as Rod Stewart returns to the Colosseum; Shania is back on the Strip on Nov. 30.

“We’re going back to the Bahamas for a few days until then,” she told me. “When I return, we have to seriously make decisions about a producer for the new album and deal with the subject of a contract renewal.”

When it talks about a contract renewal, do you think that is with Mercury Nashville? If so, her contract must've ran out because she has been inactive for 12 years.

She's talking about a contract renewal for her show in Vegas. To keep performing after the two years are up.

Do you think she would sign another contract for another Las Vegas run? In all honesty, I would hope not. I mean yea it's a good neutral location for her not to move around, but if she is gonna have a new album out in the next couple of years, she would need to go the full length of a tour across the country and across the world like she did on the last album.

I bet she signs another contract to stay in Vegas. Plus it will give her an excuse not to tour again. Here are some excerpts from Shania's interview with Robin Leach that was posted on October 10. Shania talks about a new album and how it will determine if she tours or stays in Vegas. You get a sense she'd rather stay in Vegas.

So the big question to end our conversation is when do you start talking contract renewal? I know AEG executives wish you would renew forever and ever, which is a lovely compliment to pay you. When you come back in 2014, it’s the start of your second year, which is the term of your contract. So, Virgo lady, when do you start thinking of whether you extend it?

I know, haha, it’s so true. The Virgo aspect does come into it. I feel like I’m at a point in my life where I need to take one thing at a time. So I’m looking at everything in stages and of course overthinking it until I’m completely certain. I’m in a stage right now where I’m enjoying my cake. I have worked very hard to create a beautiful cake, and now I’m eating it. So I’m in the stage of eating that cake and indulging in that and enjoying the success of it and enjoying the interaction with the audience.

Overlapping that, if I’m ever going to get back into the studio again, I have to start thinking about doing that. The next thing in line is making the record. What happens with the experience of that record is going to determine a lot about what I’m going to do with my performances. Will that record put me in a famous line where I’m really going to be dying to get out into the touring concert mode again? Or is that album going to say to me, “No, this room at Caesars is perfect for me and this album; it’s perfect for where I’m going with my music.”

Up until now, I’m in that room with my current catalog. I’m not in there with any new catalog. I need to get a feel for where this new record is going to go before I’m going to make a decision about how I’m going to feel about stage performing. So the window is not very big; I know I have a very short window, but I think once I get with the producer and we get a dialog going and a team spirit going, I’m going to know then.

I love Las Vegas; it feels like home to me there. I’m having a great time. There’s nothing bad I can say about it. I think that the only reason that I would not stay in Las Vegas is if the music somehow zipped me in a different direction. I’ve always liked to keep an open mind about things. I like to leave room for spontaneity, and once I have the opportunity to look everything over until I’m satisfied, then I’m good; I’m ready.

You can do the best of both in a sense, can’t you? You can go out and hit a couple of tour dates, European and domestic and Canadian, and still keep your number of runs in Vegas? You could have both?

Yes, you could. I’m sure that’s what the other artists do; that is possible, too. One of the other elements that worked so well for me in Las Vegas is stability for me as a parent. Other than of course the amazing stage and theater, the stability of it and being able to go somewhere where I can still take my child to see other great artists, great galleries and restaurants and get out into nature is very hard to do when you’re on tour.

When you’re on tour, you’re in and out of a town in 24 hours. You don’t have time to go do all of those things. In Las Vegas, we get out there. We immerse ourselves with everything that’s going on around us, and that’s something you can’t do when you’re touring. At least I don’t think there’s time for that.

It’s true, and I think that you would not be able to blend in so easily when you’re on tour.

It is harder, and when you’ve got a family and you’re on tour, the bubble is so small. You go between the bus and the hotel and the airport and the venue, and that’s it. That’s your life, and I don’t really want that for my son. We’ll see; we’ll see how it goes. I’m at a phase now where I’m transitioning again, and where that transition ends up will be when I determine whether I can stay in Las Vegas.

I do love it there. It’s been even better than I expected.

As a Virgo, you almost just then talked yourself into staying!

You see, that’s the thing. I can’t talk myself into anything; I can only know myself into something.

I think in this interview, Shania is very determined to stay in Vegas, mainly for her son. But I know in past albums, really all of them, she has done a lot of promotions on TV shows and radio stations, as well as performing new singles at awards shows other than country music. Would the Las Vegas show hinder her ability to promote in the sense of having another diamond certified album?

All I was saying is Shania's days of selling the number of albums (or digital copies now) she did with Mutt are over. He was the "master-mind" behind selling those millions and millions of albums. She may come out with a decent new album but I highly doubt it will be as good as her previous ones.

Plus the fact that it took her too long to come up with a new album. Over here in Europe, people forgot about her. Same happened with Celine Dion recently. One of the big radio stations stopped playing Celine's music (so I heard), because they kept playing the same songs over and over again...
But Celine got a new album out, and I believe the album is doing quite alright over here, so maybe she'll come back on our radio station... But i think that would also have to do with the fact that she's in Europe now to do a tour.

If Shania makes a new album I am not expecting much from the sales from Europe....

But we will see what happens. Maybe she'll surprise us!

I'm sure she'd squeeze in promotions during her Vegas breaks. But promotions or no promotions for a new album, there's no way it'll be as successful as even Up! which actually only sold 5 million copies (it was certified Diamond for 10 million copies because it had two discs).

I happen to disagree with you Tommy and I never do? It will be her most personal album to date and if she found the right producer and made some real emotional and upbeat songs it is possible for it to sell extremely well. Canada alone she will likely sell 1 million and if she gets some hits rolling it could be a very good CD. It's not about the albums no more it is more about the  Digital downloads no?

But I strongly believe she will come out and be bigger then ever! She is still the best selling artist, not forgetting more beautiful women. She is gonna come back. I know it. Just you wait and see.

No news about it. And i think we won't have them anytime soon. Now the excuses are those two concerts she'll play in Canada in July so she's too busy organizing them.
And no news about her Vegas contract either

Do any of y'all think that it's possible Shania could be using these long breaks in between her Vegas gig to record new music? I mean it's been 6 months since we last heard any new news on the status of her album coming along. She's surely found a producer by now, but then again with out saying anything about finding one, we can all just assume that the album has been put on hold again.

Hi,

I think that with Shania being the creative soul that she is that she is always working on new music whether or not it will make it onto an album or be released does not matter to her.  She loves writing and creating so she will not ever stop doing the things she loves most.  Her creativity and writing are her ways of expressing her self and her emotions so she will always be writing and creating music.  I think this process of creativity is like breathing to her it all just comes natural and she cannot deny it.  She has to express it.  It has become such a big part of her that she does not have a choice in the matter anymore.

Just my opinion

Warmest regards as always,

Tonto

New music will come when she is ready. I know these are far different artists from Shania but long gaps between albums have happened before:

  • No Doubt 2001-2012, (Band on second hiatus as of 2013)
  • Bette Middler (Original Material) 2000-present
  • Lionel Richie 1986-1996
  • Faith Hill (Original Material) 2005-present
  • Jo Dee Messina (Full Length Album) 2005-2014
  • Reba McEntire (Full Length, Original Material) 2003-2009; 2010-present
  • Garth Brooks (Full Length, Original) 2000-present
  • Amy Grant (Full Length, Original) 2003-2013
  • Aerosmith 2004-2012
  • Trisha Yearwood 2006-present
  • AC/DC 2000-2008
  • Def Leppard 2002-20008

Faith Hill has a new album recorded. It has been done for two years now, but her label won't release it. In a recent interview I read, she said that family was her number one priority. Reba, who has not recorded since 2010 says that she does not see music in any music coming in the near future and that was December of 2013. I think it is more pressure for female artists, especially as they get older. So, what Shania is doing is not uncommon by anymeans.

I do not think the producer is the issue. I remember watching a Bio and her record label said the reason she never got to record her songs in the early years before Mutt was because they felt the songs were not the best. Now I could be wrong but I really believe it's the writing that is the issue because there are some amazing producers out there. Do you agree Tommy or am I just wrong?

Hi,

Have you ever listened to This Man of Mine written soley by Shania and compared it to the finished version she did with Mutt aka Any Man of Mine?  There is a big difference in the two versions...

I think Mutt was really good at making her lyrics fit today's style of music so I am betting that she is probably afraid of what people will think of her work without Mutt.  Personally I will love whatever she has to offer because the lyrics will be more truthful and heartfelt.  The emotion in her style of writing will be way more evident than with Mutt.  I mean he totally changed the whole meaning of This man of mine when they rewrote it together...listen to both versions and you will see what I mean.  I can't wait to hear whatever she has.  I just would like something new to listen to from her.

Warmest regards as always,

Tonto

I think the main issue is the producer. I mean we all know Shania can write songs. However, in order for a song to be a hit, it has to sound good. And that is all up to the producer. So if Shania has all these songs written but isn't sure of the "sound" of the songs, she isn't going to release an album and have it turn out to be a disaster that nobody likes.

So, I think I have made up my mind that new music will never happen again. It's been over half a year since her interview with Robin Roberts, and no reports have been made about any updates on whether she found a producer, or was even in the studio.

She actually said in her Sunday (June 1) show that she is recording new music. That is one of the first things she said to the audience. She said, "It's been over a decade or something like that, and I think it's time." She then said, "I am writing daily and recording too."

Shania is only 48 years old. Cher for example is 20 years older than Shania and released a new album last year.

In the red carpet interview from the Billboard Awards, Shania came across confident and positive. I'm optimistic there will be new music.

That made me optimistic too and even more so after what she said during the show. Not everyone there at the shows are die-hard fans. She didn't have to say what she said to hope to please die-hard fans. She said it, I felt, because she truly meant it.

That's great Cody! I also think she truly means it when she says she's writing and working on new music. Why should she lie about that? If she never wants to release new music again she could just say it.
She would lose nothing if she'd admit that. People would still buy tickets to see her show.

She really is working on music. She just needs her time and I respect that.

In a youtube video from the show someone uploaded a week ago she is saying that she is having the time of her life. She is having so much fun performing again and it's obvious in all the pictures and videos.

I think Shania is in the perfect mind set to make a new album. She regained her confidence on the stage and behind a microphone in Las Vegas. People are traveling across the planet to see her perform. she seems happy, full of self esteem. In my opinion it's the perfect moment to write, record and release a new album.
But this is based on what I see on Facebook and youtube. Maybe this is all she needs, and maybe she is not looking for anything more. But i doubt it. I think she wants to make a new record, with her journey from splitting up with Mutt, all the way to feeling absolutely fabulous on the Vegas stage. It could make an awesome album!

Melanie and eilleen333 you are right. eilleen333, she is happy during her shows. When she came up and gave me a hug and took a picture with me on Sunday, she smiled the biggest smile I have ever seen. Everyone who has ever described Shania says she glows with happiness. It is true. She's in a great place right now, and just for me personally it makes me feel good that the person who has helped me through more than I could ever say is happy. Any person deserves happiness and I'm glad she has happiness at this point in her life.

I couldn't agree more Codyandshania eileen333 and melanie. I think her 3 Canadian shows this summer will maybe give her a real good eye opener like ok ya I can do this lets get this album going I miss this. When I saw her back in June  she looked so happy and was just glowing . Even my  mom was like wow she seems a lot happier now then when she first saw her.  when i hugged her i was over the moon not only to get a hug etc but too see someone you admire so much and has helped you through so much be so happy . very rewarding.

According to a member at Pulse Radio Board (radio djs, and other industry people) one country "diva" will pull a Beyonce. This member's posts are very acurate 99% of the time. Last time this person confirmed Miranda Lambert's new album title, single, and release date well before it was announced. Many people in response to the post including a few radio djs, one video director, and two PR people speculate it is Shania.

Here's the post:

A little birdie has mentioned that a country diva will be pulling a Beyonce this fall. Can't say who, but she is one of three artists Apple has lined up with this new marketing technique. Not all 3 acts are country.  No streaming for the album for the first year but physical albums will be out before Christmas. October/November is the time it should happen. It is NOT Taylor Swift. The mods can permban my IP on this if it doesn't happen. That is how certain I am that it will.

**Sorry I am trying to make this as clear as possible, so I am editing**

That's a theory I suppose. However, don't rule out Faith Hill being in on that. Remember, she was supposed to have released an album for the last 3 years. She had two flop singles that barely skimmed the top 40 that are supposed to be singles from that album. Currently, she is featured on Tim McGraw's latest hit, which has brought her first top 20 in over 6 years. Shania on the other hand, has been giving away some possible hints new music is coming. She has those shows outside Caesars Palace in Canada this summer, possibly to rebrand herself in other ways than just in Vegas. We shall see though.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt it's Shania. That would mean the album's lead single would be released in August/September. I just don't see that happening. Plus, the last thing we heard Shania was still looking for a producer. So that means she's not even in the recording studio yet. Furthermore, all Shania ever says is "I'm writing...."

"No streaming for the album for the first year but physical albums will be out before Christmas. October/November is the time it should happen." So does that mean no digital sales on iTunes, etc. for the first year??? What kind of marketing is that? Digital sales is a HUGE part of artists' sales today.

Hi,

Just thinking it could be a Christmas album.  If so single would not be out until around that time frame of October/November...she has been saying she would like to do a Christmas album.

It would make sense with that time frame...just my thoughts.

Warmest regards as always,

Tonto

When they say, "no streaming for the album for the first year but physical albums will be out before Christmas", it sounds like a regular album to me. I mean if it was a Christmas album why would they say it will be out before Christmas? Of course it would.
