Shania forever linked with Timmins 

TIMMINS - Shania Twain has always been an inspiration for people all over the world and indeed for many people from the City of Timmins and the North.

Shania and the City of Timmins are forever linked.

It is, if you will, part of history.

With Shania’s new Las Vegas show opening soon, it will be interesting to see how much of her past life in this city is part of the presentation.

You may have Switzerland and Deerhurst, but Timmins after all is her hometown and there could be various unique opportunities to enhance her new show with her history and heritage from this city.

For example, I along with many other people from this area, watched her play at various bar gigs including JP’s Lounge with Longshot before she left Timmins in 1988. That whole initial musical era and her high school years at Timmins High & Vocational School are interesting in a show concept.

Besides, who could forget the first nervous gig where Mutt Lange actually turned up in Timmins to help mix the sound at École secondaire catholique Thériault? I know because I was there reviewing that show for this paper.

For that matter you could throw in Shania working at the Timmins McDonald’s for a little over $2 and hour.

How is that for a costume change in Vegas?

Additionally, her visits home for the tremendous 1999 concert and the Olympic Torch run at the Hollinger Park in 2010, where we all froze at about 35 below zero, could all be part of a multi-media 3D presentation in a huge Vegas show.

Whatever you look at, Shania has given a lot to Timmins.

The Shania Twain Centre did give fans from all over the world a chance to see more of Shania. Sure, it may not have brought in the numbers it wanted.

But, you have to remember it brought her fans inspiration. And that is never a bad thing.

On the other hand you have rarely if ever heard Twain acknowledge Timmins in her songwriting as say The Tragcially Hip did with Bobcaygeon. It’s just not her style.

In the past eight years, her fans from all over the world have been waiting for new music or new tours.

I believe she could have written new material inspired by the good or bad.

Whether it was about her divorce from Mutt Lange to her birth of her son Eja or her new life with Frederic Thiebaud.

In the end, Las Vegas is about spectacle, Timmins is about mining heritage and hockey.

Will the Twain of Timmins and Shania meet in Vegas and exist together and agree?

We shall see.
