New Strip headliner besties? Veronic watches Shania’s ‘Still the One’ for second time
Caesars Entertainment - Veronic DiCaire and Shania Twain on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace
By Don Chareunsy | Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 | 12:05 p.m.
Veronic DiCaire, star of “Veronic Voices” at Bally’s, watched Shania Twain’s resident headliner show “Still the One” on Wednesday night at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace, DiCaire’s second time at the performance.
DiCaire met up with Twain after the show in the latter’s dressing room, and the two talked about performing in the dry Las Vegas weather, how Las Vegas has been welcoming to both of them and their love of poutine.
(Poutine is a common Canadian dish originating from Quebec made with French fries topped with a light brown gravy and cheese curds. Public House at the Venetian and Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill at Caesars Palace are two Las Vegas restaurants that serve poutine.)
Twain attended “Veronic Voices” last week.

The Times - Ottawa, Illinois By Sue Kovalcik | November 1, 2013
Multiply the largest number in the world by "wow" and you've captured a fair description of the Shania Twain "Still the One" concert at Las Vegas' Caesar's Palace.
Shania is taking a break, but then will perform Nov. 30 to Dec. 14 to round out the year of 2013. She has a two-year contract.
According to the gorgeous concert program, Shania is the first country artist to take up residency in the Colosseum and with her 13-piece band and four male dancers in her crossover music style, she lights up the stage.
"From This Moment On," her 2011 bestselling autobiography, was one of the hardest books I've ever read. Eilleen Twain, one of five children born into poverty in rural Canada, pulls no punches. She talks about a school lunch, on a good day, being two slices of bread with mayonnaise or mustard as the filler.
Shania describes her escape from a home filled with violence being music and the beginnings of a songwriting ability that would lead her to the dream her mother always nourished.
The book tells of her putting a musical career on hold at the age of 22 so she could keep her younger siblings together when their parents were killed in an automobile crash. The pages indicate Shania did indeed pay her dues before her rise to stardom.
She wrote the book so her son, Eja, would know about his mom's life through her words and not through the media's bits and pieces. The book tells of her devastating betrayal by a trusted friend, a bitter and public divorce and eventual marriage to Fred, who grew from a lifeline in her grief to "the love of her life.
"The book title and the Vegas concert title are taken from two of her singles that would lead her to Grammy awards, Country Music Association awards and international music awards. Her songwriting ability was not the Nashville way in the 1990s, but with encouragement from Robert John "Mutt" Lang (music producer for AC/DC, Def Leppard and Foreigner), songs were co-written for her albums "The Woman In Me," "Come On Over," and "Up."
Their musical collaboration was unheard of and the results pushed Shania Twain to stardom. Twain and Lang divorced in 2010.
The Vegas show was incredible.
We selected Friday, Oct. 18, as our concert date, and it proved to be a show full of wonderful surprises!
The concert opened with "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!," as Shania wore a charcoal gray sparkly body suit and rode a colorful motorcycle from above stage. People of all ages packed the place, and even the young ones knew the words to every song offered. At one point of the production, Shania introduced her sister, Carrie, who does her backup vocals and harmonies.
Then as the stage featured a "campfire," and Carrie and the other musicians settled in, Shania had the spotlight go to "my guest Robin Roberts," from the television show "Good Morning America." She asked Robin to come on stage.
Shania had her husband, Fred, come up from the audience and take a photo of her and Robin. He returned to his seat in the audience and the campfire music began with "Come On Over," and Shania and Robin sang together with the others.
It turns out Robin was in Vegas to interview Shania for the Tuesday, Nov. 5 "In The Spotlight" show on ABC, the day before the ABC 2013 CMA Awards show on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
After the recorded interview at Caesar's, Shania invited Robin to sing "Today Is Your Day," the first track recorded following her divorce. According to GMA reports, the duet was recorded.
Tonight is Shania's last "Still The One" show of her fourth leg. She will return to Las Vegas November 30 - December 14 for the fifth leg and final 10 shows of the year.

Q+A: Carrot Top celebrates eighth anniversary at Luxor and looks to the future
By Robin Leach | November 4, 2013
You expend a huge amount of frenetic energy onstage, and it looks like by the end of it, you’re about physically wiped out.
I’m a young whippersnapper, I'm ready to do another one. I work out every day in the gym. Then I run all over the stage. You do get worn out more mentally than physically. It’s only 90 minutes but you’re still exhausted. It’s a solo act, no place to hide onstage.
I have a lot of friends in bands, so I’m kind of like the lead vocal or the drummer. You can’t take a break when you’re in front. I chose it that way, though. There’s a lot of stuff in the show with the added production, so I’m starting to bring other guys onstage to do stupid bits. Shania Twain came to see my show, so I went to see hers, and now, as a tribute to her, I have a guy dressed as a horse, and I sing to him.

Robin Leach has been a journalist for more than 50 years and has spent the past decade giving readers the inside scoop on Las Vegas, the world’s premier platinum playground.
Celine discovery Veronic DiCaire was backstage for a third time in a week for Shania Twain’s Caesars Palace concerts, but, as she explained to me, because her parents visiting from Canada had heard her own “Veronic Voices” impressions show at Bally’s too many times and wanted to hear the real deal. Shania laughed that Veronic did Shania better than she could!
So...what show did we see that night? Well, as I've said before, we're Canadian and from the country...which means of course we couldn't miss our girl, Shania!
I enjoyed seeing some of Shania's most famous outfits on display.
We were two for two with another great concert that night. While the Colosseum is a fairly large venue, Shania still made some trips out into the audience, shaking hands, accepting hugs, and signing books (as she did for my SIL - see photo below!) She also invited selected audience members onstage for a campfire/singalong late in the show. (One lucky invitee proudly showed her the "Shania's autograph tattoo" on his arm, to which she replied "Oh...I wonder what your mother thinks of that!")
Our seats were fantastic (the front of the second section), but just as with the concert the night before, I was trying to be a good girl and follow the no-photos rules (they seemed much stricter about that at this venue) - though we did notice Shania's hubby Fred out in the aisles capturing some moments with his camera!
"Still The One" is a big production (the difference between Tim/Faith and Shania reminds me very much of the distinction between Garth Brooks/Céline Dion two years ago) as this show includes more set and costume changes, backup singers (including her sister Carrie Ann), dancers, screens and special effects. She played all of her biggest hits plus a song she wrote more recently, and we were able to sing along with pretty much everything. The ticket price was definitely money well-spent.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped to check out the beautiful fountain show at the Bellagio, and while we had intended to grab a cab somewhere along the line, we ended up enjoying our last stroll up the Strip to our hotel, where our heads were pretty quick to hit the pillows.
ya me too Codyandshania sure shows that the show is a huge success and is one of the popular shows for sure a must see i cant wait to see the show again in he new year. I think all Twainiacs or just Shania fans even people who not fans but love seeing live shows should see the show at least once before she wraps it up. I cant say enough and I can go on and on how mazing the show is . Shania is truly amazing and sure knows how to put on a show.

Yes of course they are very good. Celine dion had a few hundred seats empty for many shows when I looked at her boxscore. All shows are about 90% soldout and that is over a year of many shows.
You can't lose in Vegas. It is safe. You have a huge amount of tourists just ready to pluck money down on shows. That is what Vegas is about--the shows. So with her name recognition-it was full proof that her shows would do well. It is very, very safe for her. That is why all the older acts go to Vegas and they don't tour the country.
Shania's two-year residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace resumes tonight in Las Vegas! This is the fifth leg of her"Still The One"show and consists of 10 concerts November 30 - December 14. The set of shows will complete Shania's first year of residency. She will return to Las Vegas in 2014 for her sixth leg January 22 - February 15. Get your ticketsHERE!

The "Noon-ish Entertainment Review" -
Shania Twain: Still The One
Caesars Palace, Las Vegas
I'm not going to spoil any of the surprises in this show - and there are loads - but suffice it to say that if you want to hear the biggest hits Shania Twain has recorded in her career, this is the show for you.
Utilizing incredible multimedia effects before and during the show, Still The One is a bombastic aural and visual experience entirely fitting for the Vegas Colosseum setting. She rocks with the intensity of the percussive Blue Man Group, and dazzles with all the flair of a master magician. Featuring a set with as many shifting components as a Cirque show, Twain takes her live act to the highest advantage of the venue for the audience.
After just a few songs in, it's entirely apparent that Shania opened the door for acts like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift - driving, cross-over sounds that have a country foundation, but have won fans over in other genres as well. The hits sounds as good now as they did when they were selling millions of copies back in the day.
Her wardrobe choices help recreate some of her famous videos, and it is no exaggeration to suggest she is as elegant and gorgeous as she was twenty years ago. What is it with famous people doing that? I can't even find half my hair from a couple of weeks ago!!!
There were some spots where vocally she hit the outer edges of the bullseye, but more often than not, especially in the showcase ballads and her very cool campfire singalong she struck dead-centre of the target. Appearing confident and in control, she seems to be well on her way to getting past the condition that prevented her from singing for the past several years.
The interactive bits with the audience went over well also - if you do decide to attend, spring the extra dollars for floor seats on an aisle - just sayin'...
Given the time of year, we had an unexpected bonus, diverting from the setlist - always fun when you see artists during the holidays. A fine rendition of Little Drummer Boy...
For Canadians in the seats (and there were many, even a few from Calgary that got to go onstage with her), you may recognize twin brothers RyanDan, amazing artists in their own right. While they provided rich backing vocals for this show, you may want to check out their last two CDs. Proud to be Canadian with these two acts sharing a stage filled with fans from around the world...
As a mobile DJ, I used to play the crap out of Shania Twain's ample library of monster hits. Most especially, the gold standard wedding song From This Moment. Watching her get into her groove with this show, I expect newer DJs will be doing the same soon...
Tonight is Shania's last "Still The One" show of her fifth leg. She will return to Las Vegas in the new year January 22 - February 15 for the sixth leg of the show.

N.S. superfan gets pulled onstage to sing with Shania Twain
CTV Atlantic Published Tuesday, December 17, 2013 7:09PM AST
A Nova Scotia, Canada woman’s dream came true on a recent trip to Vegas after she was called onstage to sing with country superstar Shania Twain.
Tanya Bellefontaine says she might not believe it actually happened, if she didn’t have the video to prove it.
The encounter only lasted for 39 seconds, but the memory of it will last a lifetime.
“This is the biggest moment of my life, my dream come true, not as just a fan, but as a musician to be able to sing with someone of that calibre,” says Bellefontaine.
Bellefontaine has been a big fan of Twain since the country star first came onto the music scene in the 1990s.
“She's the epitome of a strong woman, she's the epitome of strength,” says Bellefontaine.
Ten years ago, Bellefontaine drove to Timmins, Ontario to see the community where Twain grew up.
“I went to the Shania Twain Centre, I went to the bar where she got her start as a child,” says Bellefontaine.
The trip to Timmins was something the die-hard fan had always wanted to do, but her dream wouldn’t be complete until she saw the singer in person.
“In that moment I actually cried, when I had the tickets in my hand that I was going to see the great Shania Twain,” says Bellefontaine.
She and her husband travelled to Vegas with another couple to celebrate a friend’s 40th birthday.
The girls bought front-row tickets to see Twain at Caesars Palace. Bellefontaine even ordered a replica hockey jersey, like the one Twain wore in one of her music videos.
“The anticipation of what was about to happen, just seeing her, to be able to say that I had that experience.”
However, Bellefontaine would get to do more than just see her idol - something she never could have imagined would happen.
“At about the 45-minute mark, she starts the song ‘Honey I'm Home’ and she made her way off the stage and she walked right down to where I was sitting and she put her hand out and said ‘sing with me,’” says Bellefontaine.
“I kinda just slipped into, I think, that performance mode and sang my heart out,” says Bellefontaine.
For 39 seconds, Bellefontaine performed alongside the superstar - a short encounter, but one she says she will never forget.
“I'm trying to convince my husband to allow me to change my name to Tanya Bellefontwain. He's not really buying into it just yet though.”

Kids Helping Kids booked Andy Grammer, Plain White T's Tim Lopez
By Victoria Sanchez, KEYT NewsChannel 3 Anchor/Reporter | 4:13 PM PST Jan 07, 2014
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - It's crunch time for the students in AP Economics at San Marcos High School.
They aren't cramming for a test or preparing for a paper, but getting ready for the Kids Helping Kids annual benefit concert.
"Our goal is $250,000, which is pretty crazy that a group of high school students can raise a quarter of a million dollars in 16 weeks," said Carter Hudson, the Kids Helping Kids CEO.
The students have been working all school year for this. Headlining the big event is Andy Grammer, who is famous for songs like "Keep Your Head Up," and "Fine By Me."
"And then Tim Lopez, who is actually a San Marcos alum, will be opening. He's from the Plain White T's," said Hudson.
Everything that goes into the concert, including booking the artist, is done by the teens.
It comes as a surprise to some.
"One of my favorite stories to tell is when I got a call from Sony Records and said, 'We're really interested in talking with a Caitlin,' who is our head of artist relations. And I said, 'I'm sorry, you can't talk to Caitlin right now because she's in Spanish. But if you call back in about an hour, then she'll be ready.' And it's hard for some people to grasp that they are 17-year-olds on the other side of that phone," said Kids Helping Kids teacher Jamie DeVries.
It's not just music that will help raise money for the student-run non-profit, there will be a silent and live auction.
Some gift baskets include wine, movies and even a basketball signed by Michael Jordan.
The main item for the live auction is sure to bring in thousands of dollars.
"We have a package from Caesars and it's three nights' stay at Caesars with a meet-and-greet and show with either Elton John, Shania Twain or Celine Dion. So they get to chose who they'd like to meet and see the show for," said Madeline Frohling, the Kids Helping Kids auction coordinator.
The students are expecting a packed house at the theater on Jan. 11.

Just spoke with the Caesar's Palace box office, and they had spoken to Shania's team this morning. They said, that the show for tonight is a go! According to her doctor's orders, he just recommended that she rest your voice yesterday after complaining of a sore throat. She will be performing scheduled shows without cancelation according to the Coloseeum. For anyone who is going to her next few shows, the box office will refund you at full purchase price if a show is to be canceled in the future. According to the guy I spoke with, he said they were made aware that she would not perform early yesterday morning, kind of disappointing that the Colosseum didn't let anybody know until an hour before showtime. Just wanted to let you all know, in case you were going to see Shania in this leg of the show.
"We regret to inform you that Shania Twain continues to feel unwell and tonight’s performance at The Colosseum has been cancelled.
After developing a sore throat, Shania has been placed on strict vocal rest, and after receiving appropriate treatments, she continues to feel worse. Her doctor diagnosed her with a virus that has caused inflammation of her vocal chords, and she has been instructed to continue rest through Thurs, Jan 30 to ensure a full recovery. Her Fri, Jan 31 performance is expected to go on as previously planned.
Shania, AEG Live and Caesars Palace apologize for the inconvenience that this causes ticket holders.
Ticket holders for the cancelled performance may exchange tickets for a future performance of SHANIA: STILL THE ONE at The Colosseum (subject to availability). To exchange, you must turn in your actual tickets at The Colosseum Box Office, or if you purchased via phone, call 1-888-9-AXS-TIX (1-888-929-7849).
Orders purchased with a credit card have automatically been refunded to the CC. Those who purchased with cash may present tickets at the original point of sale for a refund. Any cash transactions will only be refunded with the redemption of the original tickets."
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) - Las Vegas Strip headliner Shania Twain will be sidelined for shows through Thursday due to a sore throat.
The country music star's resident venue The Colosseum at Caesars Palace said Wednesday she was placed on strict vocal rest after developing the ailment.
The Colosseum also said she was diagnosed with a virus that inflamed her vocal chords, pushing her rest time through Thursday.
Twain's performance on Wednesday will be the second straight show to be canceled. A performance scheduled for Friday is expected to go on as planned, the Colosseum said.
The venue said those who have bought tickets to the affected dates may exchange them for a future performance at the Colosseum Box Office or at 1-888-929-7849. Those who bought the tickets with cash may seek a refund at the original point of purchase.
Credit card buyers will be automatically refunded.
Must be pretty bad for her to cancel two shows. Hopefully it is not her old voice issues coming back. Her voice still hasn't fully recovered from when she strained it a couple years back. Now this.
